Two flights with KLM. My first time flying with the Dutch national operator and I’ll be trying out their Business Class product. The flight from Brussels to Amsterdam was a short trip of just 31 minutes then after a rush through border control it was on to the Inverness leg. The KLM were outstanding and made the experience truly memorable.
KLM is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. Established in 1919, first flight 1920 from London - Amsterdam. In 2023 is there a place for a 29 minute flight, albeit an international flight? Train around 2 hours 50 mins, €25 each, €38 1st class. Thalys 1 hr 52 mins - early morning €29 each, €52 1st, €49, €79 1st, €89, €103 1st. £155 in economy.
At the Paris Convention of 1919, or the Convention Relating to the Regulation of Aerial Navigation, the Netherlands took the national letter "H" for "Holland." However, since other countries, such as Hungary, started with an H, the Dutch ended with H-N as their prefix.
Years later, at the International Radiotelegraph Conference in Washington in 1927, many countries had their country registration prefix changed. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) provided countries with several radio call signs. In the case of the Netherlands, the ITU selected PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PG, PH, and PI. The Army and Navy took up PA and PB, leaving other government departments to decide on the others.
Eventually, it came down to PE versus PH, but since there were concerns that PE could be confused with British aircraft, which used G-E as their call code, the Netherlands decided to use PH. And even though the country had to begin all callsigns with the letter P, at least using H as the first unique character allowed them to indicate nationality like other countries.

It was lovely to have you on board Tim! Thank you very much for the kind words about KLM crew. It is passengers like you that makes us love to do our job! Hope to see you on another flight soon. All the best.
David
First Officer on AMS-INV
P.S. Thanks for the landing complements ;)
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. I’m very much looking forward to flying KLM again soon.
What a fabulous view of Inverness from the air
It was a beautiful approach.
Tremendous!
Thanks for watching!
Another great video Tim. Can't be long until your channel "takes off!"
Thanks for watching and here’s hoping! 😁
Every time I’ve flown KLM it has felt like an experience, the crew are always amazing, food amazing, everything amazing just as in your superb review. And great to get a reply from the flight crew eh!? Brilliant mate. EDIT: sorry almost forgot to say, what an arrival into Inverness!!!!
The whole experience from check-in at Brussels to stepping off the aircraft at Inverness was just a joy. That comment from the crew as well. So cool! Thanks for watching mate, it is really appreciated.
Great video. Now that I know you can convert Tesco clubcard points to VS airmiles I'll definitely be booking a business class trip on KLM from Inverness. I always find the crew on KLM and Air France to be just right- professional, attentive and above all friendly. Hope to see you in the sky again soon! ✈️
Cheers! Air France, that’s on my to do list. Yeah, previously Tesco had partnered with BA for Avios points but switched to Virgin a few years back. Every little helps.
Tim Tim Tim, your trip reports are not below average! They are easily average to above average.
😉 Joking! Brilliant video mate as always
😂 thanks mate!!!
On airport time, drinks are fine!
Agreed! That was a very pleasant lounge.
Nice report, and always love KLM - but I've yet to fly them in Business :-O Great video as usual too! Thanks
Thank you! My first KLM experience did not disappoint.
Great video Tim , lovley views over inverness , pity ground staff no so friendly 😅
Thanks mate. It was a great approach to Inverness on a beautiful day. The grumpy ground crew I don’t understand, I wish there was consistency - one day it’s not an issue the next it is.
Cheers Tim, you certainly got more food than I did the other day! Nice cups though. KLM’s Crown Lounge btw, I thought the food/drink offering was really poor. Nowhere near BA standards imo. Nice review 👍
too early for beer but not too early for prosecco 🤣 Aer Lingus (UK) at least have the same policy with filming, but the cabin crew i encountered was really interested in what I was filming. Real soft spot for KLM, it was the only airline when I worked in aviation that gave me a free flight (business) to AMS to see how they operated!
What a superb video as always Tim!
Ah you spotted my Prosecco rule. 😂 I can’t praise KLM highly enough. Everything was just great. Thanks for watching and for your kind words. It’s much appreciated.
First one 🎉
Thanks for watching!
I can’t recall an approach to INV that way
It was a beautiful, the weather helped. I don’t recall being on an inbound flight to INV with that approach either.
Odd that KLM serve more British airports than er… British Airways
I’d never thought about that.
Why didn't you visit my home town of Bruges while you were in the country ?
We most certainly did but it was a non filming day. We would return to Bruges in a flash. Beautiful city,
Cheers Tim, you certainly got more food than I did the other day! Nice cups though. KLM’s Crown Lounge btw, I thought the food/drink offering was really poor. Nowhere near BA standards imo. Nice review 👍
It sounds like you had a poor time with KLM. My biggest woe was ground crew at INV!
