Hello! It’s time for another Portuguese rail journey. This time taking us from Torres Vedras to Sintra. We’ll be using both CP Regional and Urban trains on a very scenic and pleasant day out,
A little over 200 years ago Torres Vedras was on the frontline of the struggle between European super-powers. With Lisbon looking like it might fall to the advancing French forces of Napoleon a bold plan was hatched by the Portuguese and their British allies. It was Viscount Wellington's plan that would see a series of fortifications stretching from the coast near Torres Vedras all the way to the River Tagius near Vila Franca de Xira. There were three lines of fortification which came to be called the Lines of Torres Vedras. Constructed between November 1809 and September 1810, and used to stop Marshal Masséna's 1810 offensive. The Lines were declared a National Heritage by the Portuguese Government in March 2019.
Leaving Torres Vedras you can see the Aqueduto da Fonte dos Canos, a section of aqueduct completed in 1561.
On our trip we’ll be travelling firstly on a Class 592 DMU which are nicknamed “Camelos” (camel) then hopping on to a pair of CP Urban Services network Class 2300 EMU. These are slightly inferior to the Class 2400s which are equipped with air conditioning.

“How’s your view?” “A wall” 😂
Great video - thanks!
Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed the silliness!
Never been to portugal. Now I havve! Tnx Tim!
It's a beautiful country. Well worth visiting. Thanks for watching Sam.
Loved the light on this one Tim, another lovely Portuguese adventure. Hope you’re feeling better mate. All the best, Mark 👍
Thanks mate. I certainly enjoyed having a little reminder of the Portuguese sunshine. I hope all is well with you too.
Nice video again from a beautiful part of the world!
Cheers mate. I must say though that the blue sky seems like a distant memory.
'patronising history lesson' 🤣
“Useless information delivered in a patronising way.” The new tagline for the channel. 🤣
@@Timstravels01 I'd click on that thumbnail every time 😂
Another nice Portugal trip 👍.
Tempted by a little run to Sintra myself next time I'm in the area.
Best wishes to you and Mrs TT. Hope the closing gag at the station wasn't aimed at her, or you will rightly have hell to pay!
Cheers Johnny! Sintra is a pretty place but is very, very busy. We were there late September and it was a bit overwhelming.
Oh boy, that closing gag was definitely directed at the payphone. My life wouldn't be worth living if it was targeted as Mrs TT! Thanks for watching and best wishes to you.
