OMG I'm just off the Northlink. Now it looks like I'm about to board again via your video :) AFTER WATCHING: Great video mate, I feel how tired you are right now, not moving today! I actually prefer finding a place on the floor more comfortable than the pods, I can't sleep sitting up. I wish they'd introduce some dorm style accommodation to cope with the summer demand and hopefully make them a bit more affordable than cabins. Hope you got some rest afterwards!
Thanks so much for watching. On the return sailing I slept (tried to) on the floor of the cinema. Overall it was a great experience and had many positives but honestly, I was absolutely shattered.
guess where my next trip in the motorhome is going to be!! What a smashing video as always Tim! I notice Mrs Tim's travels didn't join you for this one... I wonder why 🤣😂 I can't believe you mentioned 02:30 am and didn't say it was dentist time, but really did appreciated the Jane McDonald Vibes with the tour of the ship. Wow, I can feel how tired you are at 15:00, that's a man that really regrets filming this trip 🤣 I feel you should defiantly do this journey in February when the weather is bad! (sorry... 😆)....
Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it. I can assure you that Mrs TT would have hated it! She might have tried to get airlifted off. Loving the Jane MacDonald comparison. 🤣 Overall it was a great experience and had many positives, it’s just happened that sleep wasn’t one of them. You should definitely visit Shetland, it is an amazing place. As for travelling in February…we shall see. 😂
That was a very informative video Tim! I’ve seen a few videos of people staying on those recliners and nobody seems to sleep on them..but at least you said it was comfortable 👍
Comfy yes but I think I got more sleep on the Caledonian Sleeper seat. This probably sounds odd, but the ambience of the pod lounge is so quiet that the slightest noise feels like you're making an unholy racket.
Wow you looked tired mate ! Bought back memories or bringing EVs back to Orkney from Aberdeen ! My days of sleeping on couches is long gone, if i catch this boat down to Aberdeen, its a cabin only trip for me now ! Great vlog 👍
Funny story. I went on this journey years ago (when it was P & O European Ferries) & i had a cabin. On the return journey to Aberdeen, i was drinking in the bar & then decided it was time for bed. I slept on the top bunk & had my tshirt kinda dumped beside the bed, so in the morning i realised id been sick through the night & the weirdest thing was that it was only on my tshirt, nowhere else had any sick on it. To this day, i haven't a clue how i managed it while sleeping & on the top bunk.
I suspect you’re not the only person to have had such an experience. 😂 Although fair play for managing to contain the spillage. Were you sharing the cabin?
I live near Aberdeen and I still have to do this trip with Northlink Ferries. One day! I still have to go to Scrabster and cross there to take in Orkney and Shetland. I have done the ferry plus bus from John O'Groats to tour Orkney. It is just getting time to do the rest. 🤔
Time is the enemy. Maybe if we could have an extra day between Saturday and Sunday. 😂 The JoG Ferry is really good fun, a lesser known crossing I think. Happy travels and thanks for watching.
Nice video, shame about the sleep (or lack). Back in 2005 I had a trip on this, booked as "deck space". At Aberdeen port they were offering "upgrades" to bed in a shared cabin for £40 - I took it. Slept really well, and I'm not even sure if anyone else ended up in the cabin at all!
As a foot passenger I think it’s got to be done once at least, and then fly otherwise if possible. Obviously if you can’t fly, the it’s your only option , as is the case when you are taking a vehicle. If you love ferries, then fill yer boots! Thanks for the video.
Aw, Shetland. A magical place. A lot of murders there though. ;) You’re a brave man just booking a pod. We’ve done the crossing (one leg in good weather, one in very stormy) and even as good sailors, we were very glad we took Steve Marsh’s advice and booked a cabin. Too bad you’re there just for the day though. :(
Great video Tim! Think I'd rather take a cabin then a pod! When looking on the Northlink website some depart at 17:30 and some at 19:30... Do you know why this is?
It's a cabin or stay home for me now! 😂 I'm not certain about the different departure times, I wonder if it depends if there northbound or southbound calls at Kirkwall?
@@Timstravels01 Yes, the later departure time is for the direct sailings between Aberdeen and Lerwick. Arrival times are always the same - 7 am in Aberdeen and 7.30 am in Lerwick. In summer, there is a call at Kirkwall going north on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; and going south on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Monday and Tuesday sailings are, I think, direct both ways in winter.
Thank you for your really interesting and informative video really enjoyed iy😊
Thank you so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

@@Timstravels01 Oh I had the cinema on my list too, but a group of guys beat me to it and I didn't want to crash the party!

@@Timstravels01 it looked very good, I'm not sure I would last the next day if I'd not slept. Did you get the ferry back as well?
If you can afford it do book a cabin, especially if the seas are heavy :)
I'm heading up to Shetland next spring, hopefully cabins will be a easier to come by.
Good report !! Right about the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, I have been impressed every time I went to Shetland !!
The crew were without doubt, a very impressive part of the experience.

Really informative and helpful. Thanks my friend. 👍🏽
I'm glad you enjoyed my daft ramblings. 😂
Brilliant Video Tim!
Cheers mate! It’ll live in the memory for sure.

Me too! I was absolutely shattered. Not fun.
Another good vlog.😊
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Another good video Tim, but I didn't realise you were a dark lord of the sith 😂
Just on a part-time basis.
Nice shot of the Helliar coming in at the end there, I always like watching her berth as I eat my full Scottish!
Cheers! She makes for a fine sight. I’m not certain where we passed her but she wasn’t too far behind us.
At 13:15 is there someone in a sleeping bag, sleeping on their knees?! 😂
I hadn’t noticed that but yes, there is! 😂

That would have been P&O Scottish Ferries.
@@billyshearer117 ah correct

@Timstravels01 Luckily I had the cabin to myself.

It's fun to do although I wasn't fully operational for the meeting I had. Thanks for watching!
Lovely stuff. Did you get some sleep?
Erm, some but it was not the best night I’ve had.

It is a special place, this was my first visit in many years, but I'll return soon.

Now do the crossing in winter 😂
😂 that would be an experience!
For that little bit extra I think I would prefer a proper cabin!
Without question, a cabin is the way to do it.
