Superb video as always Tim! You just don't realise how many ferry routes Scotland has, especially when you live South of the border like myself. I can't wait for the next one!
Cheers mate. You're spot on, there are so many and I'm having fun exploring them. I've got a few plans for future trips, I just need to make/find the time!
Im a bit late catching this one Tim , love the factoids and chat 😊 The ferry did look like it needed updating , and a bit 'smokey' at the end ! Keep them coming Tim , love your trips ! 👏 Great value at £20 return for the entire trip !
A great trip to sunny Brodick! Aye that Arran ferry seems to be crammed all the time, I hadn't realised before that even foot passenger space runs out frequently, a popular wee island eh!
Incredibly popular! It was interesting speaking to some residents about their thoughts on the ferry. It’s one thing for a tourist like me to have a fun day out but I suspect it’s a different story for local and businesses etc. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment mate.
I really need to try one of these rail and sail journeys! They look really fantastic, though I think I may need to pick a slightly less busy route. 😅 good work again Tim, keep the videos coming!
Cheers Dom. I think the rail & sail tickets are great value and make for a great day trip. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, it's greatly appreciated.
Somewhere I didn't get when I stayed in Largs last year. Come to that, I didn't even get over to Great Cumbrae. But I did take the train into Central and thoroughly enjoyed the trip there and back. You're a true Stoic, Tim. Sitting there in audible and visible rain as if nothing was happening. Understatement at its very best. I'm looking to seeing Brodick next.
You’re very kind, of course it serves me right for not taking a coat! My Brodick experience consisted of arriving, going for a walk and getting drenched and going home. 😂 In hindsight, I should have made a video. I’ll just need to go back! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.
I have been to the Isle of Arran Tim, on the MV Caledonian Isles. Mind you it was much quieter when I went at the start of May. This is why I tend to stay home in the Summer, just too busy for me. I’ll be back up to Scotland in Jan/Feb again probably!
I think that was one of the first videos of yours I ever watched and I’ve been hooked ever since. It was a treat to be on Isle of Arran but her days must be numbered. If your up my way give me a shout and maybe we can get that pint.
I love your dry sense of humour. 'It's just started raining. Tremendous.' I hope you enjoyed your adventure despite the weather! I need to explore more of the Highlands and Islands - I just need 2 things. More time and more money! Great work as always.
I got absolutely drenched! More time and more money - two needs which are easier said than done. I hope you manage both and can get exploring up in these parts. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
@Timstravels01 Also not sure on total population but Dorking, Dorking West and Dorking Deepdene could be a contender for smallest town with 3 stations. And you have Upper and Lower Tyndrum for smallest settlement with more than 1 station?
Love the Class 380s. We’ve had them on the North Berwick line for about 10 years now. I call them the UFO trains because of the weird sci-fi noise they make when starting off! 😂
Great video showing the trip. Did the exact same journey from Ardrossan to Brodick about a month ago on Isle of Arran but due to storm winds on the way back got diverted to Gourock so a 50 min sailing turned into nearly 2 and a half hours. The “auld trooper” is really showing her age now but she’s absolutely brilliant loved every minute of travelling on her and will definitely shed a tear once she’s retired. Hopefully won’t be long til the Caley isles is back from refit and the Glen Sannox should be due in the next couple of months. But brilliant video and keep up the great work.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. I loved spending time on Isle of Arran, a real blast from the past although I'm glad I didn't have the detour to Gourock!
Love the question about the three stations town, and no, I have no idea! Think the rail/sail ticket thing must just be a glitch. In the same trip a year or two back, I just bought the combined ticket at Central station. Keep 'em coming 👍
Cheers Johnny. I suspect your spot on with the glitch, Central - Rothesay was absolutely fine when I booked it. Ryde has been suggested as a possible contender so I’ll need to check that out. Thanks so much for watching and keep up your good work.
Great video, and I must say the Class 380 EMUs are excellent. The newer Class 385s are not so good, and it was a shame that Scotrail didn’t buy more 380s !
Looks like a nice journey, hope the weather cleared up! As for small towns with multiple stations, Ryde on the Isle of Wight has to be up there. And down our way the village of Brundall has two stations, on the same line..
I got absolutely drenched! Serves me right for not taking a coat when travelling in Scotland, in the “summer.” 😂 Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it. I’m off to look at Ryde and Brundall now…
Thanks so much, that’s really kind. The ferry was busy and I suppose it’s more noticeable I suppose on a smaller vessel. I hope to get back to Arran and do some more exploring.

Greenock has 8 stations (Bogston, Branchton, Cartsdyke, Drumfrochar, Fort Matilda, Greenock Central, West, and Whinhill) with a population of 40,000 so the ratio isn't far off there!
Think you have to book online on the website and collect the rail sail tickets or get directly from the ticket office as they need to issue you paper tickets.. the app cannot be used. The train you got I have experienced myself recently and frankly it’s the nicest train I’ve ever travelled with ScotRail, even the air conditioning works.. the ferry had 80’s vibes 😂
80s vibes is spot on! That’s an excellent appraisal. The booking thing was curious, I was able to book Central-Rothesay on the Scotrail app (and then get the paper ticket at Wemyss Bay) but whilst I could enter Central-Brodick on the app, that’s as far as it went. Strange. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.
MV isle of Arran was not Cal Macs first roll on roll off ferry....... Normally the far bigger Caledonian Isles on this route but it's away for major steel work repairs.....
Thanks for watching. I took the Isle of Arran comment about being Calmac's first ro-ro ferry directly from their website. It's a shame the Caledonian Isles is out of action, Calmac aren't having an easy time with their fleet.

Another great video/story for us Tim. Hope we have an upcoming one from Arran soon.

No cafe, or food or drink on the chartered MV Alfred.
I read that on the Calmac website. Do you know why is that? Is it a crewing issue or a contractual thing?
