  • The Surface 604 Rook Review is an approachable step-through that comes in two frame sizes and two colors! This hybrid electric bike offers fenders, deluxe rear rack, integrated lights, and two battery options for long range. Relaxed handlebar, adjustable angle stem, high volume 27.5" tires, and ergonomic touch points offer comfort. Unique combination of torque sensing pedal assist with trigger throttle that overrides for added power. Settings menu provides adjustable top speed, adjustable assist levels, and adjustable brightness. Two integrated USB charging ports (one on the display and one on the battery pack) to maintain portable electronics. Excellent stopping power thanks to Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes with large 180mm rotors and motor inhibitors and brake blinking activation. Mid-level derailleur and nine-speed cassette provides plenty of options for urban riding. Excellent safety features including bright headlight with side windows that is mounted up high on the stem, and reflective tires. The battery charge port is next to the left crank arm which could make it vulnerable. No slap guard on the right chain stay, pedal assist can activate unexpectedly if the chain is bouncing excessively. Limited 11-32 tooth cassette vs. 34 or 42 on some comparable models. Price has risen a bit in recent years, the optional battery upgrade sticks out on the left side a bit vs. being symmetrical.

I own the Surface 604 Colt 2017 and its coming on 5 years. Almost no problems with it, had 2 flats in 4+'years with 2200 miles. It's a great bike with some nice features. It's serving me well.

Thanks to your reviews on the Rook I now own a white one. Purchased local on Vancouver Island. This Canadian made bike is outstanding! I grew up in Holland, so I biked. Moved to Canada... no more biking... so after 17 years of not biking I couldn't be happier. It rides smooths, brakes are great, and with the hills in my part of the Island, I embrace the use of my throttle so now and then. Love how it is complete with the rack and chain protection, metal fenders. I upgraded with their high tech suspension seat post, amazing! I purchased a set of 2 32 liter waterproof panniers as I like to do groceries on my bike as well.
I just hit my first 120 km... and I can't stop raving about this ebike.
Oh, and pricing is very reasonable for what you get! No paying plus $1000 extra for a US brand name or add-on features. Kudos to @Surface604

Nice bike Court , good for commuting or leisure riding and not a bad price :-)

Thanks! Yeah, I feel like it is made well and offers a unique combination of parts for the price point. I REALLY like that they updated the light position. It's simple, but many companies haven't done it... and it just works better and adds safety for sure :)

I'd like to see more mass-market e-bike companies add "Torque-ish" sensors for hub drives to their budget offerings...what I have seen are prices still creeping up...boo. This bike, however, has a very nice feature set and while not a steal at $2500, it is still worthy of a look for many buyers looking to take a step up from entry-level

I watch a lot of your reviews where I get most of my e bike info. I especially enjoyed that almost 2 hour video around NYC. You review so many bikes it makes me wonder how you get so many bikes to review, do these companies just loan you these bikes? Hopefully you don't have to box them back up and ship them back, maybe you get to keep them ha ha so what's the deal? Keep up the good work!

I agree, very informative and I have learned a lot from Court. I also really enjoy the lets ride videos, especially the Fort Collins one since we spent a week there this past summer and recognized a lot of the areas! Hopefully some more " lets rides" in the near future! ;-)

Hi Brian, thanks! I just looked at the Priority Current and it has a unique frame design. I would like to cover it, but haven't been in touch with them. Thanks for the heads up and suggestion!

This is the perfect ebike review youtube channel that I am looking for. In depth and honest reviews. I have my Genesis Smithfield ebike; maybe you can make a review as well? Thanks!

This seems nice, but it’s $500 more expensive than a RadCity 5 Plus. I’m not sure I see anything here to justify spending that extra $500.

Hey boss, there are actually a lot of things which are better and worth paying extra $500.00. With cheaper components RC5 is indeed overpriced as it is considering that they sell direct to consumers while S604 sells to dealers and to consumers.
RC5 specs taken from EBR. S604 is Torque sensor vs. cadence sensor for RC5, No name motor, they say it's custom, but that's another way of saying it has no brand, which is cheaper to buy in China then actual Bafang branded Vs. S604 is Bafang brand, RC5 is 64.5 lbs vs 61.2 lbs for S604, Shimano Altus and SIS triggers vs Shimano Alivio triggers, derailer and cassette for S604, Samox BB and cranks vs. Promax BB (The cheapest you can find in China), No name hydraulic brakes vs. Tektro Auriga Hydraulic on S604, 2 inch wide tire vs. 2.4 inch tire for S604. There are other things as well but these comparisons should do it.
