  • The Surface 604 Colt is a sturdy high-step hybrid electric bike that comes in two frame sizes! Includes premium aluminum alloy fenders, deluxe rear rack, integrated lights, and two battery and charger options for long range. Relaxed handlebar, adjustable angle stem, high volume 27.5" tires, ergonomic touch points, and optional suspension seat post offer comfort. Unique combination of torque sensing pedal assist with trigger throttle that overrides for added power. Settings menu provides adjustable top speed, adjustable assist levels, and adjustable display brightness. Two integrated USB charging ports (one on the display and one on the battery pack) let you maintain portable electronics on the go or off the bike. Excellent stopping power thanks to Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes with large 180mm rotors, motor inhibitors, and brake blinking activation. Mid-level derailleur and nine-speed cassette provides plenty of cadence options for urban riding. Excellent safety features including bright headlight with side windows that's mounted up high on the stem, and reflective tires. The battery charge port is next to the left crank arm which could make it vulnerable. No slap guard on the right chain stay, pedal assist can activate unexpectedly if the chain is bouncing excessively. Limited 11-32 tooth cassette vs. 36 or 42 on some comparable models. Price has risen a bit in recent years, the large battery upgrade sticks out on the left side a bit vs. being symmetrical.

I have a 2017 Surface 604 Rook, which I bought based on your review back then. Still rolling. Best thing about the new model is full power to the throttle regardless of PAS level. On the 2017 the throttle was limited by the PAS level, so I almost alway ride at level 5. As I recall Surface 604 was one of the first companies to offer hydraulic brakes and torque sensing on the same bike.

Well said! I’m glad to hear that your Rook is still rolling strong. That’s awesome :D and I’m glad to hear that you’ve found ways tor use that fit your preference for using the throttle with full power. I also like when bikes offer full power at all assist levels, why not given the throttle mechanism itself is usually variable in how far you press or twist!

Thorough review as usual 👍. When I first saw this I thought Rad City 5 (which I have). After watching this has a few nice features that Rad lacks. Much more detailed display, light up high which I prefer, torque sensor and included USB ports.....I like 🤙

Great review! I have the 2020 model with the light mounted on the fork. Is there any way to move the light to the handlebar like the 2022 model?

I have a question about my bike battery charger. When I charge my battery the indicator light on the charger never turns green it stays red even when my battery is full. The manual says if should turn green after a full charge… what should I do?

What would you recommend for the best long range bike of around 80-100 miles where it's easy to fix in case of a flat and able to bike without turning it on?

Hmm, mid-drive ebikes with durable motors are good for long range, I trust Bosch the most. Shimano, Yamaha, Bafang, and Brose can be good too. You can use some tire inserts like Tannus to reduce flats. I’d either bring the battery charger or an extra pack to go really long range. The challenge is finding a battery that is compact and light weight. My favorite is the Bosch PowerPack 500, but most newer models use the heavier and longer PowerTube 500 or 625.

Great review. Big fan of your videos, they helped me get into ebikes last year and I purchased a Cube Touring hybrid pro as a result! So thank you! Also, I really liked your "Let's Ride" videos. You think you'll start doing them again?

The good news is that a replacement handlebar is usually very affordable and relatively easy to install. Here’s basic riser bar I found on Amazon that you might like, it comes in different lengths and even different colors for under $25 www.amazon.ca/dp/B082F4GQYM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KNZ4BES4E2VJGDF6QMCF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
