A few months ago I was on the blackrock summit just after dawn and it was the coolest thing ever. The fog had completely rolled in and visibility was down to like zero and climbing through that giant talus field in mist was like walking into a Miyazaki movie, otherworldly.

I see you walking much faster than when you first started. God bless the lady at the Skyline resort. My friend invited me to hike the AT in 2024. I would have to possibly lose 100 lbs and get in shape. I may be joining the YMCA this week. Seeing you hike this makes me want to. I have been a van lifer in the past and tent lifer during my divorce. I have been looking for vans but I'm also finishing college. I am much older than you but seeing you hike this trail, makes me think that I could hike this hike and embrace the suck as you are. If not, it's been just lovely watching you. I love your Christian spirit. I love how you don't wait around for each other too much, you seem to start out together in the morning and end up together in the evenings, but hike your own hikes during the day. I think that would help me keep my momentum and adrenaline going, the hike your own hike. I like that you can do 25 miles when you end up cooling off in air conditioning. Wow, $30 for a shuttle, 2 or 3 meals that was so reasonable. The AT hospitality is amazing.
I'll look forward toward your 2024 hiking video's Shelly. It's great to have a goal and a plan!

Starting at 6:00 a.m. and walking from bear fence Mountain to skyland I counted 22 bear before 12 noon that day. I'm really hoping you get to see some because this is your best shot in this video

I completely understand hiking in the heat of VA. I hiked thru there in July of 2012 which was a record hot summer. But it was also the summer of derecho crazy winds. Loving following your hike! Stay safe.

Loved seeing you hiking the areas my kids and I have been hiking since they were little. Kelly, your joy and gratitude today was so infectious. I love how you are taking every moment to watch the flowers, love the wildlife and gaze at the views. All the staff at the Shenandoah resorts, campstores, campgrounds, and waysides are so wonderful. We’ve been blessed with getting miracle accommodations as well. Drove up there during Covid and wanted to camp. All the campgrounds were full and I called Skyland and they found us the last cabin. Good things happen in that park. Love you lady. Your videos bring so much joy. Rock on!

Take it from someone who lives in the south (heat and humidity) take that corduroy ballcap off your head. To heavy, not enough ventilation, holds in the heat on your head.

I've met people who actually think that NY is a New England state. But, then years ago I met a young girl (her husband was in the Army) who thought Texas was a foreign country. When she said he was stationed in a foreign country for boot camp I asked where that was and she said "Texas". I laughed and said, "That's not a foreign country." She said, "It's not ? But it's so big !". I don't know if she had ever been there but she did say she was from Mass. Hopefully, by now, she knows all 50 states.

I’m sure you may already know but when you’re on the west side looking across the valleys you’ll be looking at the GW/TJ trails. Wonderful views when looking at the Shenandoah mountains, most notably you can see Skyline drive at many points. Just as beautiful as the Shenandoah, and gives you a great perspective of just how spectacular that whole mountain range is. These are my stomping grounds and I’ve stomped a lot of them, less than an hour away from my house and I love em. It reminds me so much of my birth home area in the Adirondack and Green mountain area. You are approaching some wonderful things! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy 😊

A few drops of tea tree oil in a small spray bottle of water is recommended to keep fleas at bay for dogs. Always a good thing to carry with you 👍

Shenandoah National Park 🏞 is a beautiful place. Last autumn we spent 10 days in Big Meadows Lodge and hike every day . The front desk people were above in beyond to helping us to staying in the same room because when I did the reservation was not availability .
It's not even that ur just challenging urself it's ur doing it when u don't have to and that's one thing that makes u even more amazing. Thank u for being inspirational! Have a blessed day

Been waiting for this. For a couple of weeks I've been telling my co-workers about your hike. (whether they want to hear it or not). I'm just to the East of this Skyland area and it is very hot and humid right now for sure! My guess is this happened a week ago or so. Bad news is it's 7/26 and still very hot.

It's a National Park and the deer are protected there. That means that it's illegal to harass them and if caught you may get a fine. No hunting is allowed in the park so they live in peace with humans. It's a great place to get good images of the does and their fawns. I used to camp there some years and when I showed my images to my co-workers (mostly guys and mostly hunters) I would dryly say, "No one shoots at them", when someone remarked about how close they allowed you to get to them.

I agree with you walking is walking. There are no rules in hiking about backpack weight or waist pack weight. 20 miles is 20 miles. You are great inspiration to this 70+ old guy doing my AT with you. Keep the faith and your prayers will be heard by the lord.

I know this may not make sense now but get a friend to put together some gear for more snowy weather. Maybe a resupply box when you hit Maine. Personally, i think the fall/winter will hit hard early
