Hey Kelly! Welcome to MASS!!! Now you are in my backyard! 24 at that section is a challenge but getting to GB is motivating. It’s an amazing town. Bear Mtn isn’t bad if you time it right but a lot of people hit it late in the day so it makes it harder. Glad you like the slip and slide down the back of Bear. I just nearly died on one just like that last week up in NH! You are correct, it’s Mt Race. I like it much better than Mt Everett. As you said Everett has no view, which should be illegal. That section of mass has so many swimming holes and waterfalls. You totally have to come back up in the van. The mosquitoes are relentless if you stop moving, looking back at all my photos, I wore my bug net all summer it seems. That town you made it to first was Sheffield. It’s a cute place but it’s not GB! Hahahah “smells clean” 😂 Doesn’t everything smell clean to a thru hiker? Such an amazing day. I can’t wait to see more of your NE adventures. It really is the best! 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. #giveashit

❤️💙🌹💀🌹💙❤️
Looks like you had some wildlife as company at your lunch spot. Thanks for sharing the views from the mountains
Bull's Bridge! My old stomping grounds. Thanks for taking me back!
Beautiful views and Great Barrington is nice little town. Stay safe and be well.
Good video.
I have been section hiking around there the past month. I drive over from Providence. You guys were probably already into VT by then.
It is gorgeous country, huh? Nice towns, great food, amazing homes and properties, history, and charm all around. Plus, the hiking is pretty, too.
I was hiking through a mushroom bonanza a couple of weeks back in northern MA. It was a trip. I forage mushrooms, and I have never seen anything like it, right after those big storms rolled through. Lotta' mud, too.
I am on the trail in southern CT, in my tent, and it just started raining steadily. It is supposed to be nice the next two days. Great hiking weather.
Happy trails.
LOVED VT! we were lucky to have popeyes parents come and slack pack us, so we got to ride through the VT country side and see a lot of beautiful country and old homes/barns. I feel very lucky to have experienced that as many thru hikers don't get that opportunity.
I hope your hike goes well! God Bless!
I’ve binged your journey for the past 3 days and I’m finally caught up. Congratulations on making it to Mount Katahdin. Can’t wait to see the video of it :)
oh heck yeah! thats awesome! thank you so much for watching, cant wait for the summit video to premiere!
Cold weather on the way. Good to take shelter now.
Good luck when you get to white mountains in nh they are some fun
Hope your grandma loved the postcard!
Belated... But welcome to Massachusetts! Congrats
thank you so much!
Nice video, with some good views, lot of swimming hole, so let's keep on hiking ⛰ 🚶♀️ 😀 👍
Welcome to Massachusetts
When we hiked through mosquito hell I had no DEET. Was sunset and in the 80's F. Clouds of aggressive skeeters attacked in swarms. I rushes to put on ALL of my rain gear and a head net. I sweat rain as we ran through the 4 miles to the road. I despised that section of the AT. Funny how as I watch your awesome video I am remembering that experience with such cherished fondness. Thanks for sharing your hike and thanks for reminding me of mine.
Hahahah thank you for sharing. I agree, looking back it’s a funny memory of everything we have to endure on this trail!
9 Lives was huffing & puffing on those uphills 🥾⛰🤣✌️Great videos! You keeping me entertained
Lol I stay huffing and puffing the whole hike
@@kellyhays23 Lmao 😂 Nah you doing great 👍✌️
Yay! The Berkshires section begins! I call that section of the AT “Jurassic Park” because of the dragon sized mosquitos! You can’t stop or they swarm you.
Looking great walkie-talkie... (she walks and she talks.. ) :)
The pile of rocks on bear mountain was a pyramid when I was last there in 1974. It collapsed in 1978. This is now memories for the rest of your days. Good Luck, Rick
Thank you, Rick!
Very belated, and I commented on your recent (10/26) video buuuuut: Massachusetts welcomes you ... sorry for all the mosquitos.
thank you so much!!
Great vid… 🥳
Thank you!
Talk about some steep climbs!
KeeponTrucking
Very cool and beautiful again. I just thought of something recently. So when you counted up all your miles and finished up. Is that trail only? In other words does that include the hitches? Thanks in advance 💌
yes i only count trail miles!
Ah ya finally found a chipmunk!!!!!=8)
Chester!=8) rocks !=8)
Purgatory vs hell itself. Lol. Made me LOL!!
hahhahaha
😻
Loved it
thank you for watching!!
@@kellyhays23 keep on posting love your shows
Glad you guys get a lot of food off trail cuz it’s probably better nutritionally for you compared to what you carry in your pack
It depends, but for the most part probably is!
How far is the hostel and market from the trail ?
Thx
Way to go girl. Eat good. You need good calories as many miles as you put in.
0:00 AALLLL MINEEE 😍😙😙😙😗
Its a shame Florida is not apart of the trail. (maybe it is, IDK.)
there is actually plans to connect it in the future with the pinoti and AT i believe
Won’t it be pretty cold when u finish in Maine?
It wasn’t bad at all
The boys need some of your Energy . I think the mosquitoes were bad everywhere this past summer. Loved your video today as always.💞⛺️
thank you so much!
DEET is some nasty stuff. Try a picaridin based repellent (like Sawyer). Works just as well and it’s easier on your skin and gear.
Yay!!! Welcome to Massachusetts
thank you!!!
Woot woot !=8)
It’s very impressive how you can film yourself going up those steep rockscrambles
Haha thank you!
Apple cider donuts!
fire!
@@kellyhays23 I bet!
The Shenandoahs in Virginia are flat???
Very
This is what you hiked the first 3/5's of the trail for!! LOL....suck it it up :)
oh trust me, i did a lot of sucking it up during this stretch.
What’s the name of this Hike
Did the mosquitoes live up to the hype?
yes, i got 40+ bites that I dealt with for weeks after haha
I know you have finished the hike, congrats on that! Just curious how far behind are the videos? What date did you film today's video?
August 18th
I enjoy editing my own videos!
Did you meet the eggs guy at Vanessa's
no i dont believe so lol
Future Triple Crowner, Kelly?
😏😏😏
Hello beautiful! Your almost there.
getting closer!
Ever since I melted a compass with some bug juice containing deet, I never put that stuff on my skin anymore....
Melted?,..
hahah yeah i dont use it much
@@Justusson Yes, Deet is known to eat plastic. I have to be careful when using it around my camera but so far haven't had a problem. I'm very cautious though and use it sparingly.
@@djg5950 That’s horrible. I didn’t know what to think of it if it was a joke or not,.. Something that affects plastic that bad has got to be bad for you too. Better safe (and bitten) than sorry.
@@Justusson I use it very sparingly. Mostly when I'm shooting sunsets and the mosquitos are so relentless. I definitely would have used it in that area of Mass. It's famous for the mosquitos. I just figure that once in a while like days like that it isn't going to kill you. Deet has been known to cause cancer. But, there are plenty of other things that do too. Like smoking and eating red meat. Think it's safe to use once or twice a year. That's my take on it.
I miss your pink shoes 😉
Girl.. I'd be wearing pants thru mosquito hell. Those suckers love me and I can't stand being itchy!
I must've missed something...what happened to Popeye? Also, do u ever hear from Mighty Mouse? Did she finish?
hahah it was too hot for pants, but it might have been worth it!!
Popeye went on a "popeye adventure" lol he would do that from time to time. he always comes back eventually tho lol
MM summited October 7th i believe. she skipped a big section after she went home for a wedding but she is finishing it up now
I wish I sent you my contact info as I live not far east of Great Barrington as I could have given you guys a ride wherever, and if time allowed I know a great pizza shop in Great Barrington on rte. 7. I like hiking from Kent, CT to Lee, MA. You are so right about Bear Mountain! Views are great, but heading towards MA gets a bit technical in places. I hope you show going over rte. 90 on the walk way!
You're so beautiful. Where in Massachusetts was that lol. RonnieBlueeyes
Why are you guys hiking the AT ? When your not hiking what else do guys do?
there are many reasons why I decided to hike the trail, i explain in some of my pre-AT videos. I am a traveling registered clinical dietitian
Where is popeye
On a solo Popeye adventure
I’m not trying to pry. But have you lost weight since you started?
Almost 20 lbs
@@kellyhays23 you look great! Healthy
Once you finish, I highly recommend looking into the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. I have incorporated it into my life and it has worked miracles. With your science background, you’ll understand it better than most.
What happens with your girlfriend?
she skipped ahead!
