  • PCT 2022 STATS:
    - 61 days
    - 1,822 miles
    - 29.87 avg miles/day
    - 6 zero days (all in Idyllwild due to leg injury)
    - 2 nero days (under 10 miles hikes)
    - 47 miles (most miles hiked in a day)
    In this video, I go into detail about how I was unsuccessful in my attempt to complete the entire PCT (2,650 miles) in 60 days.
    Regardless of the outcome, I am forever grateful for the experience to be out on the PCT and moving fast! In the end, I did not achieve the goal I had set out for myself. But... along the way, I gained an experience that few in this world will ever have.
    The PCT has changed my life forever and I will never forget these memories and all the people I met along the journey.
    If you have any questions or feedback, please leave a comment below and I would love to hear what you think! And if you enjoyed this video, please subscribe! I look forward to posting much more videos in the future.

    Congrats on your hike, even if it was rough starting and didn’t go as planned! How did the barefoot shoes hold up? Im a big fan of vivos and xeros. Looks like you’re in xeros in the opening picture.

    Hey Nick, grey story. Have you considered if your pain problems came because of either altitude sickness that created join inflammation, hence the pain. Did you take any like Tylenol or Ibuprofen? Also, your GI issues could have come due to a sudden change in your diet, maybe? I had a similar experience on my PCT attempt in 2019. Was only there for a week. Twisted ankle by the way. Anyway, in that week, I could barely eat anything, drank a lot of water but I was only peeing when I set up camp every day. When poop came it was after 4 days and it was a sudden event, almost shit my pants. It was yellow and a mess. I remember, mile 17.3. Had to camp at mile 17.4 to deal with the mess. Anyhow, love your story. I hope you try again. I am going back in April 2024. Good luck and see you around.

      @@NickJuretic I would really like to put in some big miles for my go at the PCT this year. Do you have any training tips?

    • @NickJuretic
      @NickJuretic  Рік тому +1

      @@bethhhrachel yes! Besides a few overnight training hikes to test all your gear, the biggest thing that helped me was putting my pack on and walking/hiking a few miles every day. I knew I wanted to do big miles so every day in April last year, I hiked 10 miles at a mountain biking & run trial in my town as my training. You definitely don’t have to do that much but walking with your pack a little bit every day will make a huge difference when you get out there

    Dude, I was wondering about you. Thanks for sharing your story. Seriously, 42 miles on day 1. Wow. I hear a lot of PCT hikers talk about the first day adrenalin. Do you think that was an effect on you. For you to have extreme cramps and dehydration after the 1st day hike means that you probably "pushed back" plenty of pain during that hike.
    The recovery in Idyllwild sounds like it really helped you get back to center.
    Looking forward to more videos of your 2022 PCT hike. Keep on.

    • @NickJuretic
      @NickJuretic  Рік тому

      Thanks for following along! The first day adrenaline absolutely played a part and I think thats why I felt so good the first 20 miles and forgot about staying ahead with my food & water haha. I went through more pain in those first 3 days than I ever have in my life.
      Idyllwild literally saved my trip and it was probably one of the only towns on trail I could've stayed for $5/night at the campground and still be able to walk to everything I needed during the day (and I wasn't walking far with my leg swelled up like it was).
      I'll have my gear list review video going up this afternoon. Thanks again for your support!

    Hey Nick, thanks for sharing!
    I've been following you since the first video that you posted. I was happy to hear that you made it through to Crater Lake which is extremely impressive given how the first two weeks went.
    As someone who will be attempting to do the trail in 100 days in 2024, I have a few questions;
    1. Did your leg just heal on it's own with rest and ice? Do you know what it was for sure?
    2. If you were to do it again, what would you change and why?
    3. How did your resupply strategy work out? It seems like you planned to mail all resupplies, or where you going for a hybrid solution?
    4. Did you mail to PO's or businesses? (If businesses I'd be interested in how you discovered who you could send to).

    • @NickJuretic

      Thank you so much for your support since the beginning!! I had plans to get more content posted sooner but glad to get this video out!
      I am super excited for you to get out there in 2024! Here are my answers to your questions...
      1. Yes, rest & ice for 2 days and then 3 days of rest, ice & very easy exercises & stretching. It was tendonitis and a small stress fracture in my shin bone. I was NOT pain free the first week back to hiking after Idyllwild... but after that week, it just went away. *For the exercises & stretching, I talked to Dr. Morgan Brosnihan (@blazephysio on IG) who is a traveling physical therapist who works the PCT. She would be a great resource if you run into any issues before or during your hike!
      2. I would get out to the desert 1 week earlier and do a couple day hikes to get my body accustomed to the heat. I would make sure I had easy to eat foods for first 2 weeks on trail and was eating regularly. Pack more food for the second half of the trail.
      3. Resupply worked great. I shipped almost everything and would pick up a few extra things every time I stopped (mainly ice cream or soda haha)
      4. I mailed my boxes to the businesses along the trail. I'll post a link below to the PCTA page where they list all the places you can send boxes to along the entire trail. I planned my hiking schedule first, picked the places I planned to stop for resupply, looked up the resupply locations for those areas, called every place to make sure they were still accepting packages (not every name on the list will still be active), and mailed my boxes! All the way up to crater lake, I did not have any issues with finding/picking up my resupply boxes.

      If you have any other questions, let me know. Hope this helps!

    What is the difference between hiking and walking?

    • @NickJuretic
      @NickJuretic  Рік тому

      Nothing is different in the movement. I think hiking just refers to act of walking on a trail, usually with gear, food & water, somewhere in nature. That is my definition
