Wow Kelly, I just went from your story about having emergency surgery six days into the trail straight to this to see how far you've come, and it's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster to say the least lmao. I'm definitely excited now to follow your insta and subscribe here and see your progress. The fact that you've come this far after the setback you experienced so early on, that would have ended the through hike for a lot of people, it's really inspiring for me right now. Safe travels, and I hope you get to order a milk shake really soon!

I’m 45 y/o. Three small kids and a mortgage. I’m going to do the Appalachian trail before I die. Even if I have to wait until I’m 60 to do it.
This is art. Folks will talk about the Whites or Katahdin but "I've seen the menu and know what I want to order" and then the disappointment. Art. Anyway, never forgot this and finally made it there after my own day hike. (I think that's a little joke b/c of the 65 North BBQ near Greenville, AL) It was OK, but could imagine it being fantastic to a hungry hiker. It is astonishing, however, that Kelly hiked 24 miles w/o food? (and she was short of food at an earlier shelter) Wow. 10/22 Ran into two SOBOs there, wished 'em luck.

Its pretty cool seeing thru hikers come thru my home area. They hiker " WILD ON THE TRAIL " from last year lives near Pen Mar 🙂. Sorry that restaurant was closed. I live about 7 miles west of there. Every time I pass it it's closed. Hikers have ate there but not sure how. Wish I could have met you. Wishes for A GREAT Rest Of Your our Hike!

You should make a point to hit an urgent care clinic soon to check if the neck thing with red rays is infected. If it is they will prescribe antibiotics and no big deal. If you try to just hike through it, then it could quickly mushroom into a "serious big thing" and I know you don't want another one of those. Waiting even one more day without antibiotics when you need them is a higher risk than you want to take. Been there, done that.
I would have to agree with your Jim. It's been there for a few videos now and getting larger.
When you finally get that Milkshake, just think how wonderful it will be.

Oh, my goodness...that look on your face when you arrived at the restaurant and found it closed. Almost made ME cry! Been there and know how hard it is after a loonnng, hot hike and much anticipation for a great meal and MILKSHAKES that gets denied. Ugh! But, wow, at least that anticipation pushed you through the heat, humidity, swest, and bugs for a a lot of mileage. You're doing great!

No worries, that fireside or fire grill place was eh, alright. Expensive, too. And loud by the street. Still would have been good though, I feel your pain. It's like opening and closing the refrigerator door hoping food appears. You just keep looking in through the window hoping someone pops out and says, "just kidding!" A bummer.

O' That must have been such letdown restaurants being closed when your mouth was all ready for a mouth-watering meal, but in the end, you scored. I noticed the bug bite a video or so a go. Looks like a spider bite. Probably need to "clean it out" and clean it with some alcohol wipes.

@@kellyhays23 unfortunately bugs nets keep bugs out but can also keep bugs in. I shake mine out before I put it on to make sure it’s free of creepy crawlys. Spider bites are legit, I’m glad it got better

@S M Only by people who don't study geography. I doubt that I could find anyone who could name 10 African countries. Most people don't even know that Africa is a continent and has many countries. I find this sad. It's a big, wide World out there and I'd love to visit everywhere ! Tanzania (as you know) is on the top of my list (and Switzerland/Austria again). If only I could win Megabucks.

You probably don't have access to activated charcoal but mb wrap a peice of potato or onoin on that bite to draw out the infection

Quite a video. Congrats on making it to PA. Make sure that your permethrin is strong. You should then make CT in 4 weeks. When you cross into CT, it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to summit Katahdin. VT and north are already starting to get cold nights.
You may want to flip up to Katahdin when you get to NY. You'll need your winter gear, including micro spikes.
That poor bridge. A number of hikers have reported close calls with falling trees and big branches, this year. Be careful.

HUH ? Her videos are delayed (probably by a month at this point). Even if she was at the closed restaurant on July 19th - the day it was last closed she's already 3 weeks further north. If your estimates of time are correct, I'll go with the average 7 weeks finishing time, that would put her in Baxter in early Oct. Not sure why you think that a hiker will need micro spikes or winter gear that early. I'm sure she has a puffy and a hat and that's all that is needed to hike in the Whites and Katahdin at that time of year. If it does snow that early (and that is RARE) it will melt by the next day when the sun comes up. Just take a zero.

Morning Kelly! Welcome to PA! What an epic day, well except for the restaurant being closed of course. That sucked big 🐴 🍆! Huge thanks to the church for coming to the rescue! So happy for you and your new found motivation. What you are doing is truly epic and is so inspiring and motivational to all us viewers! 😂 I have never heard anyone refer to PA rocks as “kinda like a game” lol, I guess it is kinda. One of the reasons I moved away from PA was the heat and humidity. I hope it settles down for you. It is a beautiful state, when the weather and bugs arent trying to kill you. Hey Kelly, what are these videos about a month behind? You were live in NY a few days ago and although today is August 8, that restaurant was closed July 4-13. I know the answer but just wanted to confirm. So, we'll see you finish about a month after you actually do? Just wondering.

@@StoicDivinity They are dreamers and not really a threat to thru hikers. I know of not one female thru hiker that has been stalked on trail by a fan. The sketchy characters are on the trail already and the male thru hikers protect the younger females from them by making sure they aren't harmed and get away from these creeps. Most of them are in the southern states and try early on in hiking season to "hook up" with female thru hikers.

Brain fog is real along with kind of misplaced and mispronounced words. I’ve been off trail for 2 weeks and just now getting over that. Wish I was in the woods with ya. It beats the listening to the folks around here!

I would have bawled my eyes out if I found the restaurant closed. All that effort for nothing. I felt your pain and frustration. Not sure if I would have laughed later. Also, that area before Pen-Mar park disgusts me. I've read some commenters on the FB hiking groups say to try to ignore it and focus on the awesome view but I just can't. It was a beautiful view with the low lying clouds the day you were there. I get so mad that some people feel a need to leave graffiti behind in the places they've visited. TBH, no one gives a shit that they were there other than themselves. It's just ignorant and selfish to do this to nature. Is that a side trail to that overlook ? I'd definitely bypass that one.
