    Finally a maker who sands & finishes wood before assembly. I just roll my eyes when I watch someone try to sand in the corners after assembly.

    Came here from IG. Great video and excellent cabinet! I really appreciated the balance between showing the woodworking and telling us what you were doing through both text and talking. I'm happy you didn't narrate the entire thing. Typically, I would skip through a lot of a 30 minute video but found the pacing really well done to where I had no need to. Looking forward to seeing your future work!

      Seems we share similar thoughts on too much narration and too much filler in videos. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the video, Joseph!

    You do really nice work! Video editing is very good. My only suggestion is to 86 the subtitles and insert your voice describing what you are doing. But I love that curly maple veneer! And you do a good job lightly peppering in some humor!

    Great work! I’d be terrified of a dart falling off the board and sticking into that beautiful case top.

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Grant! When I made the top, I pattern routed a matching piece out of 1/4” MDF to sit on the top when I play, as darts do occasionally bounce out. I also made a screen to cover the front for when my young kids play. I have all the bases covered!

    I hope you keep making more pieces like this. I'd love to see that. When you vacuum sealed the veneer, my brain had a moment. I hope to learn why you did that in future videos. Congrats!

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  Рік тому

      Hi Jessica. By removing all the air and creating a vacuum seal in the bag, it presses the veneer onto the board very evenly and with great force. It’s a really cool process. Hope this answer helps. I appreciate you watching!

    Absolutely gorgeous. Nice job. It's a beautiful upgrade! How is your vacuum bag working for you? It is the first time I've seen one where you had the manual pump instead of a mechanical pump.

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  Рік тому

      Thanks so much, Anthony! This is the first project I used this system on and it worked flawlessly. The system (it’s made by Roarockit) is so much less expensive than one with a vacuum pump. All in for less than $200. Would definitely recommend to others. Thanks again!

    Do you like the clampzilla caul clamps

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching, Richard! I do like those clamps. Really solidly built. I think Woodpeckers is making more and more gimmicky tools in the last few years, but this isn’t one of them. They do a great job keeping everything flat and pulled tight. Thanks again!

    Totally blown away by the care you took to build this. Amazing work and yes, the edge detail totally made it. Will you be making a Grand piano, or just a pair of uprights? ;-)

    Terrific stuff. You are a natural. Question: Do you use water, or something else to wet the veneer tape before card scraping?

      Hi Bill. Just plain tap water was used. Thanks for checking out the videos!

    Sounds like you might be in the Hudson Valley. Hello from Greenville, NY. You have an incredible skill level. How did you develop your skills? Also, if you don't mind, what was the tool you used at 23:30 - some sort of drill guide? Thank you.

      Hi Vincent. I’m in New City which is in Rockland. I appreciate the compliment! I’ve been woodworking about ten years. I’ve taken a few classes over the years but mostly it’s trying out new techniques in magazines and videos and working them into my projects. Some things have come easier. For example, my turning skills are atrocious!

    Amazing piece. I had a couple of questions about your veneered panel. How’d you make the MDF template? Did you get accurate cuts using the veneer saw off that template, or did you have to tune things up with a plane? I’ve been looking at doing a “sunburst” veneer panel soon, but need a little help with some of the details.

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  Рік тому +1

      Hi Cliff. Thanks for the question. I used a protractor to mark the 18 degree angle on the 1/4” MDF. I then put the MDF on a tapering jig (I used a Rockler one that I’ve had for ages) and lined up my drawn line with the edge of the jig and ran it through the table saw. And I was able to get accurate and clean veneer segments straight from the veneer saw (which happened to be very new and very sharp). Hope this helps and happy to help with any other questions if you have them.

    Very good! Nice piece of furniture. I enjoyed seeing the well presented variety of techniques. Yeah, Osmo is great. If you didn't have a Domino, what method would you use for the shelves? Stopped dados with router, dowels, through tenons, etc.? I use an adjustable jig for shelf thickness with pattern bit, but it takes a while (got to be a better way) and gives me the sweats after comitting to the cut! Saw your post on Reddit. Thanks!

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  Рік тому

      Thanks for the kind words! I would have used either tapered sliding dovetails or traditional mortise and tenons. The Domino has really been a game changer, for me at least, in terms of time-savings. I’ve never regretted purchasing it.
