    The most environmentally friendly vehicle you can have is the one you have now. The damage caused by the manufacturing of any new vehicle by far exceeds any environmental benefit you might gain by replacing your old vehicle.

      I looked at doing what I thought was the "right thing" . Did a full analysis of the so called environmental credentials. It soon became clear any vehicle with a batter pack that does circa 250 mile range requires between 10-16 tonnes of CO2 to manufacture the battery pack. As Christian mentioned the energy mix is certainly not clean. When I worked it out it would have taken over 20 years @ 6000 miles a year in my clean Euro 6 diesel to offset just the battery pack. It's madness as all of my figures were researched from academic data sources

      @@MattBlack6 Thanks for sharing, this absolutely nails the situation. Most European cars do 45MPG+ my 2017 euro 6 diesel averages 54MPG so would take more than 12 years for CO2 payback against the Tesla. By then the batteries would have failed on age rather than cycle's. Thanks for sharing 👍

      @@caryknapton7233 yeah maybe. I see a lot of model S battery failures. But I also see a lot of high mileage cars over 10yo still going strong. There's not really enough real world range and longevity in place, given they've only been around under 15 years.

    When I crossed the Simpson Desert in 2015 we had 2 x LR4s and 1 x Toyota LC200 and the only vehicle that had any issues was the Toyota. One day in the next few years I will drive the Canning Stock Route but I will do it with a convoy of Land Rovers so we can share parts and experience. I have been accumulating parts and tools for some years now and must thank your channel and others for pointing out the issues I need to be aware of. Many thanks for the videos. BTW that fellow with the Toyota on the Simpson ended up buying a Discovery 5 and loved it.

      Agreed I have the expectation on all my outdoor adventures that I (the Land Rover owner) will be the one to break down or get stuck but so far every trip it’s been a Jeep or Toyota. I haven’t broke down or been stuck once. Knock on wood for me.

      X2...our Simmo convoys most problematic 4wd was a 100s LC and no parts were available at Alice..we waited 3 days for upper ball joints...but drove on clunking.all the way home. Oh what a feeling!

      Andrew St. Peter White had a Disco 4 to test it for a few months. He said he does not see a problem with its cabability. He could do the same tracks modfied Defenders could do. He just not wanted it to have one as a long term vehicle because of his fear of breakdowns....

      I had the intention to buy a 4runner 1990 model, which is te one I like the most, but after a lot of searching and looking, reading etc. I bought a Land Rover Freelander 2 3,2L petrol awd. Great car.
      Then comes modding the car, being a Toyota or a Land Rover. That's a whole chapter for itself.
      All cars have something to be done. All of them. It's fine.
      And to you Christian and Vera: you are great people with a huge sense of humor. That certainly raises quality of life ;)

    Don't even own a LR yet, but I recently found this channel and love it. I'm originally from Germany, now living in the USA, and the humor and german precision are amazing and very relatable.
    Would love if you did a video with some background about you two (how you meet, what you've done in life, seems maybe you lived in the USA for a time? Work outside of youtube, etc).

    I just replaced my original battery in my Discovery 3 after 14 years. I think that isn't bad :) Also after watching a lot of lrtime videos, while I was doing the cam belt, i did the oil & water pump (both oem). Also switched to 5w40. I'm happy. Keep the videos coming!!!!

    Yep, that is a FUGLY wagon! My LR4 (Disco 4) HSE LUX is a reliable, (must have maintenance up to date) expensive, good-looking wagon. I bought mine LR4 from the original owner with 74500 miles and 120000 Km. It looks brand new, with very few tiny scratches, and the all-leather interior is immaculate. The wagon has an impressive presence when you drive into the parking lot at the shopping center. It is heavy, drives smoothly, especially on snowy days and it doesn't fishtails because of the constant 4x4 drive. We are a Land Rover family. My youngest daughter has a new 2022 Range Rover.

    Thanks Vera/ Christian. I really enjoyed your ‘word to the Sunday’. I also watch the car care nut - It’s great content for those car enthusiasts that dream of working on their own vehicles. It’s also good to see UA-camrs like yourself acknowledging others great work. Now for my mini rant on electric vehicles: If you live in cities (where electric vehicles make most sense) then where do you charge your vehicle? Majority of folks here in London live in apartments, so there’s limited off-street charging. We rely on public charging which at the moment is nowhere near adequate. Plus with the cost of energy at the moment, it is more expensive to charge your electric car (at a public charger) than it is to fill an average car. It is crazy. It gets worse when you go long distances and have to use rapid chargers on the motorway, they can be much much more than filling a car with standard petrol. If we now move on to manufacturing, it takes much more energy and resources to produce an electric car (not to mention the unethical and dirty extraction of raw materials - cobalt in Africa). The greenest thing anyone can do is to keep the current vehicle they have and continue to run it for as long as they can. It is not possible to manufacture and consume our way towards a greener future. Vehicles like ours - all the heavy polluting and carbon damaging stuff has already been done, the vehicles are here. To destroy them and replace them with vehicles that have an even greater carbon and natural resource demand in their manufacture is just crazy and is the argument of the uninformed.     Interesting video and not a spanner in sight! I have heard many Disco drivers that find them very reliable with no real problems at all - you just have to be kind to them and service them regularly (with 5W-40). Electric carrs - I read recently about a guy with an electric car that broke down and locked up in the middle of the road. Total shut down, he couldn't start it, the doors were locked and he could not open them, the windows were locked - he was trapped inside. A specialist managed to get him out and he rejected the car and went back to a petrol vecicle and will never drive an EV again. People forget how enviroinmentally dirty an EV really is - rare metals for the batteries - more emissions to make and recycle them - a whole life cycle makes them more polluting than many petrol / diesel vehicles.

    After driving a 2013 LR2 for 6 years, I got a small bite at the Land Rover passion and when upgrading to a new car, I really tried to consider other brands (and got turned off by the Lexus GX ugliness... I mean wtf are they thinking??) but I just could not get anything other then LR. And now, after a month or owning a 2016 LR4, the LR passion is really kicking to another level! Wow! I think non-LR-owners just cannot understand that feeling! ...and we even kept the LR2 as a 2nd vehicle cause we could not get rid of such a nice ride! Thanks for the nice chat! If you're looking for content ideas that are not repairs, go with upgrades, I believe those will be welcomed by everyone. Cheers to you 2 from Canada!!

    Truly enjoy your wit and your hard work. It is a 'labor of love' to own a Land Rover! I have motorcycled throughout the U.S. and you two remind me of Harley riders. They are always wrenching on them but would NEVER give up riding them. Harley riders know NOTHING about other motorcycles, like you two are oblivious to other brands. The GX 460 you mentioned IS ugly but also happens to be probably the best built SUV money can buy, in terms of dependability and build quality. In fact that is the SUV the Car Care Nut bought for his family! I own two Toyotas and my Tacoma has 150,000 miles (Hilux/240,000 Km) and honestly feels like it is just broken in. And I do my own maintenance as Toyotas require fluid changes. What I lack in tearing down an engine completely, I make for by the clearest fluids you have seen. Land Rovers are beautiful to look at. The Brits have always made great looking vehicles like the MGB, Jaguar E-type, Triumph TR6 and the Land Rovers are no different.....meaning they look great but require the owner to be either wealthy or a SERIOUS do it yourselfer. The LR drivers who feel they are dependable are woefully ignorant of what is going on in their 'ticking time bomb'. And you are proving how important it is for a Land Rover owner to have a sense of humor. The Car Care Nut is by comparison, WAY serious, as we Toyota drives have nothing to laugh about!

    I bought a 2008 “LR3” with the 4.4L V8 sight unseen. I then found LR Time and thought Christian will be very mad at me😂. Yes it has some issues which I am working through with help from watching your videos. I love this truck! The air suspension is so cool! Your channel is my favorite. Fixing things or just having a chat, it’s all great!

    I drive a Toyota hilux in uk . I have owned loads of land rovers and loved every one of them and I can tell you now I still have to do work on my hilux weekly .rust fighting is part of life with it and all the necessary service items that need keeping up to . Great channel keep up the good work 🇬🇧🇬🇧

    Phew! I’m so glad you said Lexus and not what I drive, a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. I have owned a Landrover Discovery 2 and 3 but they were just costing so much to maintain that I switched to the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Super reliable and great to drive.

    For Toyota drivers it is all about the accessories. You put on big tyres, a roo bar, winch, roof rack, second tyre carrier and a rear drawer system with fridge then your weight is no good so you upgrade the suspension and do a lift so you can drive over rocks but you don't because you are scared to break something because you more than doubled the cost of the car.

    As a man who made LAND ROVERS for 12 year's I can say they are very strong . My advice would be to have the underneath of the vehicle cleaned and repainted with plastic coat ,if you have air suspension then make some guards to protect the rubber from road chipping and stones.

    Good Morning Christian and Vera. Another very entertaining video - and you are right, they do not always breakdown. I do a lot of maintenance on my 2011 D4 and work on other Land Rovers in my spare time. Mine does the daily commute, towing and over-landing - with and without the family! 150k miles and climbing!
    I totally agree with everything you say about electric vehicles. I have had my D4 and some customer's LRs vandalized and / or chained to immovable objects here in the UK.
    Please keep the great videos going. I have picked up so much from them. I am still working on my wife to let me have a car lift in the driveway! 😀

    Love your humour. I have a Defender 110 TD5 and a 130 300TDi - but I have always liked the Disco 4
    Just changed the steering drop arm and track rod end ball joints also new bump stops and changing hand brake shoes. Love your comments about "What code" - I am having it read next week. I just listen and can here the problem. lol

    Loved it, driving around to try and get a fault code for next week's video 😀
    Some one I know describes her Defender as her pet, which is the perfect analogy. You love and care for it and when it's not well you fix it with care and consideration.
    My pet is getting some very nice upgrades over the next few months so can't think how this analogy works in this instance, apart for the care side of it.

    I bought my Disco 4 over 2 years ago and it's now over 7 years old with 85K miles. I have paid for two services carried out at the LR dealer I bought it from. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it as far as I can tell. My question: Is it a genuine Land Rover?

      I have not owned one younger than 88t km. It’s not in the death zone yet. Statistically you not over the hill but let’s hope you got a good one and a good workshop. A rare combination. Christian

    Love the video guys. I’ve owned 3 Nissan Patrols, a Jeep Commander, an old Mitsubishi Triton 4 x 4 Ute and now I’m driving a newish Toyota Landcruiser 76 series. Over the 20 years of driving these vehicles, the only repair Ive done is replace a radiator and fuel pump on one patrol, but it had over 300ks on the clock. The Jeep did break down with a faulty crank sensor. Problem with that car was it’s Mercedes parts. 😂
    My 76 series is slow, basic, overpriced but it’s reliable, which I need, particularly when towing my 3.5 tonne boat over 1000 kms. A trip I do two to three times a year.
    I think Landrovers are good looking vehicles, excellent off-road and comfortable, but all the people I know who drive them have all lost their hair with reliability issues.
    Oh, btw, my boat has twin 200hp outboards, Japanese of course!

    I’m sacrificing £2500 for a new chassis for my 22 year old D2 🤪 and still may buy a D3 simply because my life just isn’t hard enough.

    For the record I won't ever give anyone shit for loving their LR, or any other *respectable* vehicle like LR for that matter. I love my 23 year old 4-banger Ford Ranger, and I don't care what people think of me still using it as my daily driver! I don't do the 4x4 anymore myself, but I've got nothing but love for people still into it 💚

    Since Vera mentioned the Mitsubishi Pajero, please allow me there are many issues with the Mitsubishi Pajero you develop a special relationship to preventive maintenance.
    Ok I have had some issues with the D3 but far less than what the Pajero threw at me. The Mitsubishi dealers are equally expensive as Land Rover and the vehicles are a pain to work on after a few years in a rust belt country.

    I’ve had Toyota [LC100/Amazon 4.2 1998] and Isuzu [Trooper 3.1 Citation LWB 1993] Mitsubishi [Shogun 2.5 SWB 1988] Mercedes ML270 [2001] and three Range Rovers [86, 88, and 2004] and a Discovery1[1990]. Three Nissan Terrano [all bought same day in 1995, two SWB and a LWB]
    Many others including Audi 90 Quattro [88 yuk!] Q7 [2006] HondaCR-V twin turbo [2015].
    My favourite vehicles in order are the 88 RR diesel [it had character and ran for 100,000 miles and sold like new], the Land Cruiser which I still have but not working after 200,000 miles. The Isuzu Trooper, scrapped after 150,000 miles [very roomy and comfortable] Also the 2004 Range Rover which was the best built and most reliable vehicle ever but sold at end of warranty and 40,000 miles as it was noisy and underpowered.
    Obviously I was not the main driver on all these but I was for the Range Rovers, the LWB Terrano, Q7, and the Cruiser for all 200,000 miles. There were others, including a Fiat Panda diesel which I liked very much for local runs. Forgot the Volvo XC90 which I had from 2017 to 2020.
    I am very tempted to buy a new Defender110 HSE for next November as probably my last ever IC and big car [I’m 65 years old now] to replace my current drive, a two year old Kia Sorento diesel [which I like very much]

    I've owned a Freelander 1 and about to get a Freelander 2.. Yes they are flawed but there is something special about Land Rovers. 😊

      Just get one guys! You will not regret it! …and as long as you follow LR Time’s advises, the fixes won’t be that bad. I bring my LR2 and LR4 to a small garage shop and check the details with the mechanics before they fix something. It’s way less expensive than the LR dealer. The small stuff I try to do myself when I have time (oils, straps filters, breaks, …) Anyway, just my 2¢ from Canada. Cheers!!

    Great rant Christian, very funny as usual, I really enjoyed it 👍. That Toyota mechanic looked as ****** as it is to fix them 😂. I'd like to add to the point of electric vehicles.....What will they do with the batteries when they need replacing? They can't put them in landfill or recycle them and if they are in an accident apparently it takes forever to put them out if they catch fire! Also, as I use my LR4 to pull a caravan, how far will I get before an electric one needs to be recharged, and where will I put the caravan whilst its recharging? I'll try and stick with what I've got for as long as I can, one because I love my LR, and two, because it's still cheaper to repair than it is to replace 😉. You two take care, looking forward to next Sunday

    I’m very passionate about my Toyota and the whole Toyota Management System. Many manufacturers have now adopted JIT manufacturing and Kaizen.
    Toyota is known for reliability, but also go-anywhere capability. It is adventure and the passion to go outdoors and tackle any obstacle.
    My passion began the same as with many Toyota Truck owners. With Marty Mcfly’s Toyota Hilux in Back to the Future. It went on to be developed by seeing Land Cruiser trucks all around the world in Safari and rugged settings. I love the Defender 90 for the same reason but when I went to buy one in the 90s it was too expensive with it being hand built. I love my rugged Toyotas though and have a Toyota Tacoma. I would buy a Landcruiser 79 if it was available here. The one relied on to go across the outback.

    A different video but also just as informative as a technical video. Good to hear you both having input to this changing automotive world by sharing your opinions with us, of which totally agree. I have a small electric German made vehicle which we use for short runs to town and back, but we also have a diesel for longer journeys. If people buy an EV, buy for a specific reason and you won't be disappointed. Thanks for sharing another great video.

    Dear Vera and Christian, I owned both a 4X4 Toyota and Land Rover. First of all Toyota reliability is an urban legend. This is from experience (I bought the Toyota new) they break down like every other vehicle and usually cost a fortune to fix. The other thing is Toyotas are plain and simple boring. By the way when Andrew St. Pierre White travelled the Canning Stock Route, he did so with several Toyotas and a 50 years old Land Rover Range Rover. The only vehicle that did not break down was the old Range Rover.

    gm guys from jamaica that is so true one guy came on i think he is call the doctor he say my landrover is broken again lol its just a dead battery or a bad window regulator the truck is not broken just replace it 95% of people who say landrover are not reliable or not good they cant even change a light bulb on the truck my opinion on a landrover product the best u willl learn along the way

      @@Vera_and_Christian well said guys i saw a desktop mechanic change a lr 4 egr valve the amount of things he remove just to swap out the egr valve ; and u guys make it so easy half of his time u guys got it done and dont move so many things honestly as we say in jamaica' u guys run circles around desktop mechanic kooool guys

    Wow!!! That sure was a lot to take in... I can appreciate your passion for LRs and the hobby. It's that passion that comes through and makes your videos fun to watch. And you're right... there's only so many repairs and maintenance you can do before your rig is reliable, and there's not much left to do. I guess that's why you show us how you work on your friends' LRs. Do you know of anyone with the gasoline (petrol) engines and not just diesels? Do you have any plans or dreams for modifications of either LR for this year? It's always nice to see you on trips and normally using your rigs.

      I don’t know anyone who has a petrol nearby. We will have mods to come for sure. But not the usual „put on rock slider“ mods like on other channels. DIY and low budget is our motto. Christian

    Great to see a different format Christian & Vera👍 In 2016 we did an overland trip in our Disco 3 of 10,000 KM on our own. This trip traversed the Kalahari desert, into Namibia across the Mars like landscape of the Skeleton Coast national park. Down to Fish river Canyon where we got a puncture which we fixed without a tyre change. Yes and we did have a Nanocom as the main tool and the oil pump was changed before we departed 👍 Along the way we winched out a couple of Toyota's with some very red owners faces🤣

    Got a Jeep Wrangler 4xe at the moment, a plug in hybrid. Got it for 2 reasons. 370 HP with 30 euro / year tax and it replaces 2 cars for me. ( I always had 1 big 4x4 for camping trips/off roading and a small city car ) Since it can go electric 50 km, it is more than enough for my daily commute, so I can use it for commuting without people throwing eggs at me.
    Everything you say about electric vehicles is true. Unless you charge at home, on fast chargers the cost /100 km is on par with a similar size petrol car. Because of material shortages, the price of them is very high and will climb further
    I am ashamed that as an owner of a plug in hybrid that my vehicle is subsidised by people who can't afford them, they are in fact a tax on poor. and just greenwashing

    It is important to remember that most cars, especially luxury cars, are not bought with the expectation that one is supposed to become a self-taught mechanic with the ability to fabricate his own specialty tools and dig a lift into his driveway ;-) As JFK said about the Apollo Program, "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard."
    Agreed on the all-in footprint of EVs. That said, a 300-mile range full-electric 2025 New Defender recently leaked. JLR will have to move the platform from D7 to the MLA platform (used by the newest Range Rover and Range Rover Sport) to accommodate a 100kWh battery pack, but the look and feel will remain the same. I would like to keep all our diesel Land Rovers running for as long as possible, but would seriously consider one so that I won't have to replace a timing belt at 100,000 km.
