  • In this episode, we complete the install of our newly repaird engine in our Land Rover Discovery LR4, which had a snapped crankshaft after only 40.000 miles. Will it start? See for your self in this video. OMG.

      Every day is a school day ... In my mid 60s and worked on vehicles and electrical installations all my life, must have used thousands of cable ties ... and finally learned not to just cut the top corner off a pack .. what the hell have I been doing with my life .. lol ... 🤠

    I think honestly this might save a few disco 4 from the breakers and give a few people that wouldn’t normally have a go might now. What was the total cost so far? As that’s a big factor for repairs too. Great job both of you. Vera reminds me of my wife too. So organised

    Das heutige Highlight vom Ideenreichtum of german engineering war ohne zweifel, das ausrichten des Gehäuses mit faden und lot. Der beste tip für die Praxis: Die Tüte der Kabelbinder in der Mitte öffnen.
    Das der Motor schnurrt wie ein Kätzchen, war mir klar, bei der präzisen arbeit.

    The person that designed the clips on the gaskets is probably one of those rare occurrences where a shop floor assembly engineer gets promoted into the design department.

      It probably was reported as a trip hazard on the floor as they dropped them or they where running out of JITS just in time stock to keep up with production so a resolution was to be made
      Let's hope the crankshaft department can take notice and improve there part too

      @@mondodaftasabrush unfortunately that would need a total redesign of the engine, to make it longer in order to enlarge the crankshaft, and therefore make stronger webs . Originally this was a Peugeot designed engine as a transverse positioned engine and needed to be as narrow as possible. That's what causes the crank webs to be of a weak design.

      ​@@samrodian919 In fact Peugeot wanted it to be 2.5litre V6, didn't want too much power out of it. It was the cooperation that boosted it higher.

      @@vs6300 that may well be so, but it's still a crap design, and I bet even in 2.5 litre form it could still have broken the crank in low rpm high torque requirements.

      ​@@samrodian919 Two failure points, failure of the crank due to material defect and failure of the lubrication system due to poor oil specification leading to crank failure, despite this only 7% of these engines break their cranks between 200-300kms and the others drive upto 1 million kms. So what is the point?

    Als Hobbyschrauber habe ich damals meinen Daihatsu 3 Zylinder Motor zerlegt und wieder zusammen gebaut. Dieser Moment, wenn der Motor gestartet wird, ist unglaublich. Ich habe mir sehr viele engine rebuild Videos angeschaut . Dieses Video von euch ist mit Abstand das emotionalste und schönste Video überhaupt!!

    As a diesel mechanic I am very impressed with what you have done and congratulate you on your excellent achievement in repairing that engine,I haven’t done one of these myself yet and after watching you two battle with this one I’m NOT sure I want too. It would be nice to know just how much you spent on parts and gaskets Ect and the total amount of hours it took you to achieve your goal of turning a disaster into this great achievement,well done.

My heart sank when you first tried to start it, but I was elated when you fixed the problem. That D4 is a very smart looking car, also. What a great buy 👍.
