- I realized afterward that Disturbed is the band who sings "Get down with the sickness" 😆 The Sound of Silence is certainly a departure from that song!

I am 63 grew up with Simon and Garfinkle's original......and this is the ONLY remake that makes me feel that the song will go on forever........
The one thing I will always say about it is that the original doesn't have the greatest tone for the lyrics. It sounds a little too upbeat and almost cheery compared to how David Draiman performs it, which has a darker, punchier tone.
@@theElemDragon back when it first came out was a much different time, the ESTABLISHMENT wouldn't have allowed it being dark. Today Disturbed has brought out what was truly meant. I will always love both versions.
Agreed…I’m 68
And for our generation this songs means s-thing different to all the younger generations. They only hear the voice but didn´t understand the powerful words which stands behind this song.
I’m 64 and I can remember hearing it back then. The cinematography in this video is absolutely gorgeous. It combines a perfect use of the Zone Technique and the lighting commonly used in film noir. When the singer is looking straight into the camera, he looks right through you. I don’t have the words to describe how everything comes together in this video. Genius seems to be a gross understatement.
The best description of the differences between the original version and this version is that the original was a warning to humanity and this version is anger because the warning was not heeded.
Exactly.
Yup. In this one, silence won already, and there is but one voice daring to break it
Original was a suggestion.
This one is a warning.
Best remake of a song that ever was made very good job fellows and this version is the on version my wife and I listen to now 🎉 🎉 🎉
By far the best cover of this song ever
It was pretty amazing!
Absolutely
Better than the original IMHO
Paul Simon Said he thought this version by David was more powerful and true than their version, gave it full approval in an interview I saw right after Disturbed released it.
@@pro-techautomotive9433 That's so amazing!
I'm 80 years old and even at my age this still gets me.
The original was suitable for it's day. This version is for today. Superb cover.
Very true!
Absolutely! I have to admit I had never heard of Disturbed until a few days ago. It's a very powerful song, especially today and this version brings that out. I'll have to listen to more!
Oh yeah, David Draiman is phenomenal. Hes honestly the perfect introduction to metal because hes not super aggressive but he still has a powerful voice
id say nothing else matters by mettalica more heavy, but not as in your face i guess with instruments this song is like a blend of rock and opera i call it rockpera
Thank you for also noticing and commenting on the visualizations, especially as the boat is reaching the people on shore to make a connection. One of the most powerful images for me is when the arms reach up to get the drum from the tree. I find that soooo beautiful. The rendition speaks (or sings) for itself. Beyond words.
David Draiman's voice and this arrangement is (in my opinion) the most appropriate for this haunting song
He did it MAD justice! 🙌
Agreed. You watched PTX’s, and it’s indeed ear-candy…a wonderful rendition. But THIS, this hits so much harder in the feels and hits so much HARDER to the true meaning of the song. I think it’s how it was always meant to sound.
David Draiman’s singing is incredible. The cinematography is off the charts.
This song is almost 9 years old and I just heard it today amazing
Tge version takes the poignancy of Paul Simon's genius lyrical message and raises it to the sensory heights it so deserves. The comoosition here, along with Dramain's undeniable vocal diversity and power have given this song the new life it needed to resonate with its listeners for decades to come.
Agreed. His voice is AMAZING!!!
It’s Draiman, but yes
Wow, I got hit by some Old Testament chills with this performance.
Geoff Castellucci also does an epic cover of this. One of the best descriptions I've read of them is basically this:
Simon and Garfunkel's version: A warning.
Disturbed's version: Anger that the warning wasn't heeded.
Geoff Castellucci's: I'm so sorry.
And Pentatonix's is Hope
Wow, that sounds so cool! Thanks for the suggestion!
Anger that the warning was unheeded?
How odd for a metal band!! :P
It's not just about the separation, it's also about the failure and corruption in society, and when speaking the truth marks you as "the crazy one". Slayer Does this REALLY well, especially across the entire album of "Seasons in the Abyss" (though, "Reign in blood" is probably more visceral).
@@sutekh233 Okay.
The original version of the Sound of Silence is hard to beat. I see you have reacted to Pentatonx and now Disturbed. You should give a listen to Geoff Castellucci next.
Thank you for letting the song play then giving your reaction after.....putting the artist first then opinion next....plus also so many reaction youtubers make themselves 80% of the screen and 20% the artist of which you highlighted the artist primary.......totally classy and respect for your method...stay true and anyone reading this subscribe and like the way she did this!!!! You have my vote.....you are correct as this is an epic version of this song......breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much! I figure the artists are much more interesting to watch than me 🤣👍 Many reactions I've watched, the video is too small and I can't see it... so if it's one I haven't seen before, a lot of it gets lost for the viewer. And with songs like this, I get so wrapped up and don't want to pause... whereas more fun videos, I'm more prone to say things during the song. But certain songs deserve respect, as this one does. Thank you for your kind comment!
Thanks for your reply......also check out Tom Ball singing this song from AGT......another great version......
Continued success!!!
@@rhennis1013 Thanks so much! Cheers 🍻
The best cover ever done.
I never thought anyone could do justice to this song... UNTIL I heard this version! EPIC!!!
Amen!
It's such a powerful cover Paul Simon put it on his socials page.
Wow really?! That's amazing!
Not only did he link it he rang David after the Conan show to congratulate Disturbed, he wanted to sing it more like Disturbed did but the producers said no as they were folk singers, so Paul always intended it as a harsher warning. It is high praise when the original artist loves a rendition.
Disturbed has a song called A Reason to Fight. It is a very emotional song that shows just how human David Draiman is. He wrote A Reason to Fight while thinking about all of his friends he has lost to depression and addiction over the years. If you do A Reason to Fight please do the official live video because it helps really show just how much Disturbed is helping other people through their music.
I have seen this video and reactions many many times and your interpretation of the people writing songs and the musicians coming together to break the sound of silence …. I never thought of that and no reactor saw it that way either - WOW, what a way to see that. LOVE THAT! Thank you
Oh, thank you! I didn't think I'd stumbled upon anything others wouldn't have picked up on! That's cool to hear! Thanks again! 😊
I think this cover is indicative of the spiritual awakening going on all over the world right now. I know for me, it takes me to my soul level. Thank you for you're reaction.
Thanks for watching! :)
Glad that you 'got' it.
There’s no doubt about it he can sing !
What a voice that is man ❤❤❤
It never fails to give me goosebumps and brings me to tears.
His voice is incredible
It really is!
Thought this was to old for anyone to react to but I'm so glad you did. I absolutely adore Simon & Garfunkel but on this rare occasion I think I like this version better than the original. Apparently Paul Simon Liked it so much he promoted this version himself. Haunting and powerful is the only way I can describe it. Great reaction as always.
Yes, this was an amazing rendition! That's so cool that Paul Simon did that!
I love love love this version the best
This is my favorite version. ❤
You're all the way into it, impossible for me not to be. Thanks again!
I appreciate that! Thank you!! 😁
Great reaction.. definitely need to check out the live version on Conan show it's amazing
Can't wait! Thanks!
Most Excellent
Still gives me a shudder down my spine even after all the times I have seen it, Amazing emotional track
It sure was!
Wow what a dam fine cover that voice just fits it perfect
I wish i had a dollar for every time the first word anyone said after hearing this was "wow"
Haha! I bet! 😄
ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!
Agreed!
I could listen to this song a million times and I always get chills when he starts to push his voice to a scream, amazing
Proof of perfect timing. The music starts right when you ask if your sound is working. Everything else about the song is perfect too.
Paul called him over this cover. Best cover ever!!!!!
FANTASTIC production on your part ... large screen video and EXCELLENT sound !!! TY ! ❤
Many thanks!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great reaction. Now I think you should check out the live version on Conan O'Brien show because it's awesome too!
Sweet thanks!
fvkin enjoyed that so much. epic sonic material. Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to October Ends' new song 🤘
The BEST version of this song ever
You NEED to watch him sing this live on Conan ....just remarkable
I’m so happy to see that this version by Disturbed is making a second round appearance, it was originally released in 2015. What’s old is new again and gaining popularity with the masses, it truly touches your soul! Loved the Simon and Garfunkel original but this version totally blows me away🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Beautiful reaction as it captured how stunning the song/video is. I hope you can keep it up as we all know what not having pauses does. :( Thanks for your reaction.
Thank you! 😁 Usually the video just isn't able to be monetized... but many that I do where there are pauses, still aren't able to be monetized. That's the nature of the beast when doing reaction videos unfortunately 😕
Thank you for your inciteful review of the song. I especially enjoyed that you let the song play, and then did your review
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
S&G could not have said it better, the sound of silence, i see it like the way ppl are now with their smartphones. The world is silent, but the minds of the people are full of sound.
Very good analogy!
I don't care what anyone says this song is really good
I went down the reaction rabbit hole to this a fair while ago. Probably seen a couple of hundred videos. I often comment on the final scene, that the music is sailing towards the voiceless, and you are the first and only commenter to get there too. Thought I saw the tear glands activate at one point. Mine do every time I hear this. Also, do check out the live version on Conan.
Yes, this song always gets me in the feels! I'll be doing the Conan one as well since everyone said it's amazing! 🙌
If you haven't checked it out yet he sings this live as well in a video it's amazing
Yes, I did that one! It's beautiful!
David's vocal control comes from being a cantor in a synagogue.
So glad you didn't stop it to comment.
It was too beautiful!
A GOD GIVEN TALENT!!❤❤😮😮😮❤❤❤
This is one of those songs that really digs into your psyche. It's from a source I would never have listened too, and yet it's excellent.
It's like War Pigs from Black Sabbath, another source I would never have listened too...
Amen to that!
I have been watching your reactions and your performances for two years and it has been such wonderful pleasure. You have developed into a beautiful singer and special young woman keep up the good work also how about some more nightwish for this 70 year old
Aww your very kind! Thank you! Yes, I will be doing more nightwish!
I love that you didn't interfere and comment during the song. I saw you singing the music and feeling it. Such a great reaction
Aww thank you! It was so beautiful, I just had to let it play! 😁🙌
You should see the live version... it's even better...
You are the only one who caught that the people on the bank had music and the musicians were joining them to make it heard 🎉
Someone else had commented about that. I was surprised no one else caught it!
If you're also a fan of Phil Collins/Genesis, you might also appreciate Disturbed's take on, 'Land of Confusion'
This song make me so sad..... for all the people that haven't discovered it yet \m/
I really don't know what word other than beautiful you could actually use to describe this. Seriously. What other word works? I love everything Disturbed did here, but oddly enough my favorite part is the visual when David says "and the people bowed and prayed" with his emotion and the flashing lights. It's hard to get past that point for me: it's all anger and disgust that we're headed for the destiny Paul Simon warned us about 60 years ago. Simply put: it's beautiful.
Amen to that 🙏
Just gorgeous
Simon & Garfunkel made one think.. Disturbed has you feeling it deep your Soul.
Love your reaction! So powerful. Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
Thank you so much!! 😁
I love this cover. Super intense and beautiful! As mentioned below, definitely check out Geoff Castellucci's version. COMPLETELY different but just as good IMHO.
Oh I'm excited to hear that!
Spot on best cover ever goosebumps later girl.❤️😎🇺🇸
Glad you reacted to this... That version is nothing short of amazing !
It really is!
Thanks! Thought you had already heard it...glad for you that you did now...😀
Paul Simon is a genius. When S & G sang the original, it was in the era of 'folk music' and they sang it that way. It seemed like just another pretty little folk song that nobody could understand, but was danceable. It wasn't until Disturbed's take on genius Simon's words, that the meaning became horrifyingly clear what we were doing to each other, and the world around us. Silence like a cancer grows! Peace ❤
Amen to that! I grew up on S&G as well as tons of other great music... but I never understood the meaning until I was older.
He Rocks!!! But he's also good man!
Hello again Mrs Realistic. I always love your reactions 🔥 This was a great one and a great band that covered it so well. I appreciate you reaching to the music that people suggest. I will be back for another great reaction 🎉❤
Thanks much much! 🙏
a modern classic!
I think heard somewhere that Paul Simon said it is Disturbed song now.
I'm most likely wrong with that comment ua-cam.com/video/ntNfwoKD0XA/v-deo.html
Like how you showed whole video thanks
"people writing songs and the musicians coming together to break the sound of silence "oh i didnt think about that!
😊👍
watch the video without the sound to grasp its message. There is so much there as well! Then listen with out the video, then together again about 10-12 times!!
.
Daviddramen is an awesome singer
Great. Exactly what I took from it.
Great minds think alike LOL!
Fire reaction girl 🔥
Thank you 😁
Down With The Sickness by Disturbed ❤😊
I realized afterward that they did that one. I DEFINITELY know that song! 😁🙌
"is my sound working, i hear nothing" - yes, that is the sound of silence
No cover of this will EVER come close to the original by Simon and Garfunkel
While his signature style may differ from classical opera, David Draiman's foundation in classical opera singing has undoubtedly contributed to his exceptional vocal techniques and control
Amen to that!
The music video is awesome. But suggest you check also his live performance at Conan, it is priceless.
Thanks! I plan on checking that one out as well!
The original was a warning. This is anger that the warning wasn't heeded.
Pretty good review. The best thing about this studio version isthe video. The composition & singing are top notch, but if you watch the live version that was performed on the old Conan show, i think you will see that version is even better in very subtle ways that most people don't hear. Go listen, tell me I'm wrong
I'm uploading that one this week! It's fabulous!!
If you want to hear it turned up a notch listen to the live version from the David letterman show..its disturbed best
#HOGARMY
I've seen some interpet the original by Simon and garfunkle was a warning of what the future holds. And then the disturbed version is a call out in anger of what the world has become... you should look up the live version from Conan Obrien... to me it's an even more powerful performance
This is a great version for sure. I wish you'd have seen his performance on the Conan Show first though. Stunning is the only words that come to my mind .
Maybe I'll do a comparison!
@@MrsRealistic please do its even better
@BluRadoZ71 I'm totally excited now! Lol!
You certainly need to do the live version on Conan next. Its even better, if you can imagine...
The beginning of the song is the sound of silence!!
ooooh please check out the version Corvyx did of this, it's different and isn't pretending to be like the original or this one, he's put his spin on it. Thanks!
They should try Hallelujah (L .Cohen of course).
OMG that would be epic!
0:50 Is my sound on? LOL. It's the SOUND OF SILENCE.
Great reaction and breakdown little lady ❤
Peace to you and yours.
Thank you so much 🤗 God Bless!
👣👣👣👣👣👣👣 .. yeah , it gets you...
Pentatonix modeled their version after this one.
This is the best. David Draiman has the most stunning voice. I saw Disturbed last year and seeing this song live made me cry
That show must have been amazing!
👍
