If you are having trouble with alignment like I was when exporting from Embergen use the "transform" pick whip from your "import" node to the "Export VDB" node. That will center the sim and if you've chosen the right "upward" direction and size everything should line up. I find I might still need to scale it if I've changed my model's scale, but this makes it a lot faster. check out my community post for an example.
I have watched 20 tutorials on Embergen over the last 2 weeks for this challenge (including a couple of yours) and you compressed all the tricks I had to learn from 10 videos into one and explained some things I had to figure out myself anyway. Good of you to include the vertex painting, I was a whole 6 hours into tutorials before I realized I could even do that. This tutorial makes a great start point for this challenge IMO. If you decide to make a render for the challenge I can't wait to see it.
Thank you so much! I'm brand new to SFX and embergen, and I was struggling to find a good "this does that" tutorial for ambergen so this was fantastic. I'm trying to create a smouldering forest floor look and struggling to get that flickering, spontaneous combustion spots that quickly dissapate after a few seconds, popping up all over the ground. Would love if you had any advice or even a video demonstrating this technique!
Glad you found my video! I will be making more tuts but for now try using a shape noise node to help with the random spurts. Check out the preset "ground fire" for the main menu it is a good starting point for that.
Thanks a lot for this guide! Could you maybe make an other video talking about the export and import of particles? I seem to loose the sparks and everything connected to the particles when I only use vdb export.
hello, i could need some help , is it possible to use an imported geometry only as an Effector und not as an Emittor. I want to manipulate an fire emittor with an imported Geometry but the Geometry himself should not burn. but rather it should effect the emittor with his geometry, i hope this was clear, my english is ugly sorry, , sadly i cant find an option like that
I am not able to make the vertex color work in any way on trial version 1.06. I am almost giving up and exporting another alembic just with the masked areas of the geo as a new alembic. :(
I had the same problem as you, but I watched this video and it solved the problem of vertex colors not working properly. ua-cam.com/video/gvOVhnu_ijI/v-deo.htmlsi=qlDujd2WLzEiBRe8
Hey Royals its me again! Would it be possible to get a tutorial on how to import Particles from Embergen to Blender correctly? I only get black dots without colors after importing the Alembic Cheers!
I can't the vertex to work. I can see the red in embergen, but the version I have does not have the vertex color option available. I have the latest version of embergen.
For anyone having trouble getting Embergen to see Blenders vertex paint maps, the main thing is setting the R,G,B vertex colors checked on with 0 for the ref value and the vertex color alpha checked with reference set to 1. Also FB Is works better than alembic, and it might help to paint everything black, then the emissive elements red.
I have the same issue. I know geo nodes. Points to mesh. Also a material assign node. I just don't know how to work with the alembic frames...as I'm used to only a single alembic file.
When i import my FBX, Embergen only plays it for 30 frames and then cuts off animation. Extending the import colored bar on timeline to a longer length doesnt extend the original animation either which is like 200 frames. Override FPS or changing frame offset doesnt either, why is it cutting me off at 30 and I cant find the obvious place to change the duration?
What program are you exporting the FBX from? I find blender works best even though I am a C4D user. Double check to see if you have multiple animation tracks or some other hidden setting that is changing the export. Also try bringing in your FBX to another program and see if it plays back right.
No matter what i do Embergen is ignoring my Vertex Color. It's either emitting from the entire object or not emitting (when I mess with the reference parameter on mask1)... I just started studying it and will eventually find what is happening. :)
@@RoyalsAndRogues Yes. I have it. I tried an export from Max. Now i tried also from blender. :( It's weird. I am probably still missing something, but that should be automatic/basic.
@@Kumodot Sounds like there is something that just isn't checked. When exporting from blender do you have the vertex colors set to srgb? I can send you my blender/ember file if you want to use that to trouble shoot. Just email me from the about page.

But sparks still appear throughout the box. Can you tell me the solution? I'm currently using the Alpha version that I can use for 2 weeks.

Yes. I contacted with Nick from EmberGen, looks like it's a problem inside Blender, if you export alembic with vertex colors and reimport it to Blender it doesn't have the colors @@RoyalsAndRogues

I mesh to points is the key, but this is a pretty good tut for importing into blender:

Do you have the mask linked to the shape input node? It's easy to miss and have the object into shape which will ignore the mask. .

Can't really say with the model/project make sure you also have the mask as the source for the emitter by default it has the object linked
