To be fair, a triple isn't anything new with Japan. While triples really have some unique character, torque production, etc. they aren't as sublimely smooth as an inline-4. Triples have the imbalance issues called "rocking-couple" and it's felt in most of them. It's a course feeling tingle that comes through all contact points. Some fours have a terrible vibration issue too, but there are a few standouts that are absolutely butter. Fours can be very torquey but they have to be built and tuned for that purpose.

Great stuff as usual, what a fabulous thing. Very interested in your comments on the suspension, I've often been surprised how rarely road testers take the trouble to do a bit of basic set up to fit in with their weight, riding style etc. Think we all know what a massive difference it can make to the feel of a bike.
The adjustments themselves are relatively easy to make but the theory behind it can get complicated. Depends a lot on your weight, riding style and the type of riding you do. Loads of info around the subject in numerous forums and vids on here but as a first shot probably best to go with someone experienced in the subject.
My only complaint would be the front cowl should come as stock and there should be a small exhaust like the Street Triple so you can see that awesome single sided rear end.
G'day Mr Chops. Great video and commentary on this one. You've paid this machine the ultimate compliments. Engine,. handling, and comfort but not perfect, almost. What an intoxicating machine. Great work John.
Pulling the clutch in to start. I guess I'm used to it now on my pair of Triumphs. I can see why they did it, no trying to use the starter motor to drive along the road anymore ! Also you as you say finding neutral is difficult, maybe that's another reason :-D I've got a car that also needs the clutch pedal pressed before it will start, so I've been well and truly trained to operate the clutch before starting the engine !
Took one out last week and you are spot on with your review Chops . One word that comes to mind for this bike is slick. If Triumph sort the anti wheelie/ traction control issue , and offer some loud paint options my Superduke may have to go.
Remember in the early 90s Steve burns monster Spondon turbo,, 213 bhp no electronics,, in pb wheelies at 150mph,, now it's safe to say that most of are safer on the new stuff,, better car drivers,, then we're sorted,, from Northern Ireland,, best review so far,, from Northern Ireland greatly appreciated ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️

Hey Chopsy love the channel. Well after watching countless hours on about 4 different bikes on my short list I finally decided on the Speed triple in orange color. It’s beautiful! I’m coming off an 890 duke r which was actually perfect so I was hesitant but wanted something bigger, a little heavier, and still comfortable. One of the things people kept saying was how comfortable the Speed is. To my surprise as soon as I put my feet up on the pegs I knew that was not going to be comfy for the long run. The pegs on the Speed are way up high. I’m 6’2 225lbs and I know you’re a big guy. Did you think the pegs were in a good position. I’ve ordered some lowering pegs but wanted your opinion on the peg location. Thanks.
3 yrs ago , I had the 2011 speed triple , bought it to slow me down after owning a zx10r , it worked , struggled to go over 127 mph, the zx10 r did 107mph in first if you took it to the Rev limiter, on a wheelie ,, the triumph was a great bike but heavy if you had to push it about , suspension was perfect on mine and I only weigh 11 stone ,great all round bike , although had no electronic aids not even a b s ,, cheers for the review choppy , Shane uk 🇬🇧
I took mine straight to KAIS Suspension near Manchester and they set mine up... Compression was maxed out on the rear fresh out the box from Triumph and the front was wound right off...! Youd think they would set the suspension up neutral or even offer a set up service to tailor the bike to the new customer. I agree with you the suspension is on the firm side but its immense.... Compared to my old 1050R (2017) which hadnt been set up its night and day.... So much more confidence and my tyres reflected that... great video as always LCR...
Excellent video. Great bike , phenomenal machine, in a Sea of launches in 2021 , this has gone under radar, but its right up there with the BEST. ABSOLUTE HOOLIGAN. Bit too pricy in some countries.
I’m undecided about the new Speed Triple, in this class, for the road, I’d probably go the Super Duke R and probably be as good on the track the few times I’d go. Personally, for the road, I believe the best current triple engine is the CP3 in the new MT09SP. Just the right amount of power, electronics and it now handles great
I’m undecided aswell mate! In April I’ll be testing Both! Only thing I hate is super duke’s plastics feel like a 125s build quality. Triumph just feels and looks solid. Let me know what you choose
Just picked up mine 2 days ago. I’m from russia and luckily here this is one of the most affordable super nakeds. It costs 18,6k euros, meanwhile Ktm is 23,3, and streefighter is 27,2. So its a great value for money!! But i wonder how triumph performs compared to KTM. Especially regarding dynamics?
Great video great to see you as always push the bike a bit to see just how it is I think that bike is absolutely beautiful and triumph is I think my favourite bikes now I’ve got a rocket 3gt now 2023 but still running it in due to this bldy weather we’re having in uk but I think this would be a great bike to have in my shed with the rocket ride safe chopsey
If the gas tank won't open, it's in the manual ... there is a wrench behind the cover over the overflow tank, and you pop out the 6 bolts in an emergency, if the tank really won't open. For the track, you can use the standard non-smart key, it's much smaller. You have to hold the key to the sensor located on the right side sort of between the rear seat and pillion seat at the plastic to start the bike. Technically you could leave the key at the paddock after starting the bike ...
Good information but does all this represent an improvement over the use of a key? No, it's just technological overreach, an unnecessary over-complication of style over function. Make it a no cost option and see how few would choose it. Make it a £500 cost option and I guess the number would be zero. And yet triumph want £200 for a screen fairing option that simply finishes off the bike and should be standard. Yet triumph say they've listened closely to their customer feedback?
@@S1000xrhp In the UK bike theft at stops are a thing. The thieves grab the key from the ignition and run off. The rider stands the bike and chases the guy with the key. The other thieves push the bike away. Now they have the key and the bike. With smart-key keyless, the bike is useless once turned off. This is what they are fighting. Thieves are opportunistic and also allergic to risk as we all are, and having to physically fight someone for a key in a pocket will lower thefts at stops.
Clearly Hinckley have taken their Naked game up a level with the 1160 but their are some quirks like why they bolted the seat cowl to the tail and what's with the placement of the oil filter behind the gear shift linkage?? I couldn't tell what mode I was in on the fly on my test ride either. Will wait for some proper color options in 22 and a sort for the neutral finder , cheers LCR
Thank you for a great review. I own a Streetfighter V4S and I find it a bit to difficult to live with on a day to day basis. It is like sitting on top of a stove in slow traffic and it consumes fuel like a car (07.2 litres/100km). You are saying that you can get 120-130 miles on a tank, is that until you are entirely out of gas, or until the refuel-light turns on? I get around 150km (90 miles) on the V4S until the refuel light goes on.
I have 2021 1200 rs speedy got it 1500 kms ago. I have exactly the same fuel consumption. Around 7.2 as well per 100kms. In traffic it is scorching hot as well. My temp indicator has crawled up to 9/10 Bars. Usually normal temps for it on the same chart is 7/10.. so it's basically the same thing as your v4s you're describing. They are pushing every bit of power from this engine, so it's going to be a thirsty hot stove.
@@secrets1475 Thanks for your insight. In that case I'm leaning towards either keeping the V4S. Might also take a closer look at the new BMW S1000R. It might be a more sensible option.
Might have been mentioned, but that black lunch box underneath is NOT the cat, you can get a slip on and retain the cat (sits under the engine) while getting rid of the lunch box. I fit a Racefit Growler X and it's amazing ;-)

Tested both (well, the KTM 2020). The KTM is a real beast with a sportier, more track oriented, outstanding handling. The Triumph is much easier to live with. The engine is smoother. And I agree with LCR, its handling is even better than the KTM. “Sublime”, he said. True. So easy. So natural. Makes you so confident. This being said, the very unpleasant gearbox of the Triumph is really a showstopper for me.

Well I sold my SDR 2020 to change into Honda CB1000r Black edition, and feeling very good about it :D KTM you cant trust, I had faults on it, bike was new......shame...and engine vibrations on low rpm sometimes was annoying....
Thank you Chopsy. Enjoyable as always.
Test rode one at Washington Triumph today, definitely a strong contender for the new bike! Great video
Keyless ignition is fine if it’s a folding key like with my KTM. I’m loving that Speed Triple!! 😎😮😁
What a superb reviews chopsy i totally loved it...and listening too you whilst riding the fun factor was great just watching
Love the sound from the triple keep up the Great videos..
Cheers Glenn.👍👍
Thanks buddy 👍
Great stuff as usual, what a fabulous thing. Very interested in your comments on the suspension, I've often been surprised how rarely road testers take the trouble to do a bit of basic set up to fit in with their weight, riding style etc. Think we all know what a massive difference it can make to the feel of a bike.
Is it a DIY adjustment like on a mountain bike , or is it a trip to Triumph to adjust it ??
The adjustments themselves are relatively easy to make but the theory behind it can get complicated. Depends a lot on your weight, riding style and the type of riding you do. Loads of info around the subject in numerous forums and vids on here but as a first shot probably best to go with someone experienced in the subject.
@@steveball2307 cheers mate 👍
My only complaint would be the front cowl should come as stock and there should be a small exhaust like the Street Triple so you can see that awesome single sided rear end.
Oh and great review chops as always
Speed Triple 1200 exhaust has 50% more engine to deal with ...
G'day Mr Chops. Great video and commentary on this one. You've paid this machine the ultimate compliments.
Engine,. handling, and comfort but not perfect, almost. What an intoxicating machine. Great work John.
Thanks Robert 👍
Pulling the clutch in to start. I guess I'm used to it now on my pair of Triumphs. I can see why they did it, no trying to use the starter motor to drive along the road anymore ! Also you as you say finding neutral is difficult, maybe that's another reason :-D
I've got a car that also needs the clutch pedal pressed before it will start, so I've been well and truly trained to operate the clutch before starting the engine !
Great review. Better than the S1000R?
Excellent review the bike looks great quality excellent finish and fit looking forward for a ride review 👍
Really impressed with the review Chops, I love seeing the benefits of testing a bike over a longer period 👍
Took one out last week and you are spot on with your review Chops . One word that comes to mind for this bike is slick. If Triumph sort the anti wheelie/ traction control issue , and offer some loud paint options my Superduke may have to go.
Did you like it by any chance?!....that triple howl is so intoxicating! Thanks for the review LCR
Thanks Iain 👍
Amazing bike, nice review 👏
Can you do a comparison video with your new superduke RR. 😜👌
Haha I wish 😅
Good review buddy thank you and also where you get that chest rig from ?
Chopsey did it come with paint or just Matt primer?🌲🌋🏍
Remember in the early 90s Steve burns monster Spondon turbo,, 213 bhp no electronics,, in pb wheelies at 150mph,, now it's safe to say that most of are safer on the new stuff,, better car drivers,, then we're sorted,, from Northern Ireland,, best review so far,, from Northern Ireland greatly appreciated ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Its a cracking bike. Ive demod one recently and was blown away by how good it was. Only downside was the comfort for me at 6ft3 but Triumph are releasing some cracking bikes in recent years. Big fan of the rocket 3 too !
Did you feel nervous on the Speed triple? I just bought one but I can’t enjoy it cos it rides like something bad is about to happen, it’s probably my skill level or confidence, I only passed my test in 2018 🤣
@@pcarts232 not sure I understand ‘it rides like something bad is about to happen’. Are you flat out in 4th gear or something ? It’s all in the wrist !
@@theonlyredspecial lol 😂 no no I don’t ride flat out, it’s still running in so i only do 6000 rpm but I mean like on the motorway and B roads it doesn’t feel planted like the S1000 , it’s like skittish if that makes sense! Maybe cos it’s light and has no steering damper 🤔??
@@pcarts232 I know it’s going to sound silly but have you checked tyre pressures ?
@@theonlyredspecial yeah they’re set to 2:9 rear and 2:6 front I think , I also adjusted the gold dial on the rear shock all the way out ie Anti-clockwise to try and soften the suspension! Maybe that’s upset the handling of the bike maybe?
Great video and fantastic bike
Great bike.I would have to have a screen.Thanks.
One of my favourite bikes ever!
I had a Triumph Stag in the 80's (yep, I'm that old !!!), great review Chops. 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Speedy it is. I just need the heated grips
Real world review as always.
To be honest all the super nakeds are brill, it comes down to personal choice. For me, i won't be swapping my SDR gen 3 anytime soon.
Love your posts, always done with humour. Please please make some more enduro vids, they are hilarious...
Very impressed with the speed probably my next bike… full throttle in 1st 🤣🤣🤣if i did that on my gen 1 Zx10r 🚑🚑🚑🏥🏥🏥
Great review as always and I think you love this bike. 😍😍😍
Thanks.
Get one! id love to see you mod one up.
Actually very tempted!! 😁

Just gets better and better, Chops. Legend… 👍👍
Brilliant review chops.
Chops what’s the road u use ? Love the look of some of them twisties
Cheers
NEED TO KNOW! haha
So much more confidence and my tyres reflected that... great video as always LCR...
downside for me is the delay in the 'extras' ...Triumph well behind on the demand for the optional parts
Yes money very well spent on this one expecially 👍
4 weeks into ownership and there is something about the handling, fast corners slow corners its like its reading your mind.
Hey mate, I’m thinking of getting one, how’s yours 3 years on?
Excellent video. Great bike , phenomenal machine, in a Sea of launches in 2021 , this has gone under radar, but its right up there with the BEST. ABSOLUTE HOOLIGAN. Bit too pricy in some countries.
Great review. Killer bike. May have to add it to my speed twin 1200. Now totally different bikes but would you do the speed triple over the rocket ?
I don't like the keyless ignition other then that incredible motorcycle from triumph again , nice work Chops .
I’m undecided about the new Speed Triple, in this class, for the road, I’d probably go the Super Duke R and probably be as good on the track the few times I’d go.
Personally, for the road, I believe the best current triple engine is the CP3 in the new MT09SP. Just the right amount of power, electronics and it now handles great
Yeah I prefer the Yamaha CP3 compared Triumphs Triples. Having said that I’ve not tired the this new one so maybe this is better 🤔
Too many issues with KTM's.
Brilliant video chops
Great video great to see you as always push the bike a bit to see just how it is I think that bike is absolutely beautiful and triumph is I think my favourite bikes now I’ve got a rocket 3gt now 2023 but still running it in due to this bldy weather we’re having in uk but I think this would be a great bike to have in my shed with the rocket ride safe chopsey
Chopsy - great review as always!! If you had a choice between the new Speed Triple RS and S1000R, which would you choose and why? I’m torn.
Excellent video, makes me want one! For the price it really should include a steering damper.
Landed a few wheelies at triple digits and it straightens itself nicely 😅
@@CubanRider since you are the wheelie king then there’s no reason for anyone to worry about it!
Will wait for some proper color options in 22 and a sort for the neutral finder
, cheers LCR
Such a wonderful Video/Review. I appreciate your knowledge and opinions. I would love to ride this bike.
Some bike! Really wish triumph would go mental with the colour schemes again though. Would be all over a crazy purple one
I get around 150km (90 miles) on the V4S until the refuel light goes on.
that's crazy!
Glad Mavis will be returning. We've missed her.
How has chops not got a million subs let alone 100k, quality weekly entertainment and editing skills
Thanks Nick 👍
Might have been mentioned, but that black lunch box underneath is NOT the cat, you can get a slip on and retain the cat (sits under the engine) while getting rid of the lunch box. I fit a Racefit Growler X and it's amazing ;-)
I think Chopsie is in love ❤️ with the Speed. I had an '07 1050 (from Destination Triumph) what a bike that was, this one could tempt me back.
Now Triumph needs to make a Daytona 1200 and I recon no one will care that it won't be able to race in WSBK. People want a big Daytona ASAP Triumph! Grate content and thoughts on the bike as usual!! Ps will You gonna be getting the new GSX-S1000 for a proper road test?
It's growing on me
Triumph need to address the electronics, though
I own a street triple 765 2017 and the electronics are exactly the same apart from the imu, it is very annoying, I hope the next street triple gets the goods, and a slice of cruse control
@@thejudge3040 How come you say they are the same?
@@rudolphcarr you can't access track mode or rider mode on the fly, you have to be stationary also the traction and wheelie control are built-in as one.
Also if you select either track or rider mode and turn the bike off it reverts you back to normal road mode
@@thejudge3040 ahh, I see what you meant. The electronics are not exactly the same though. The 1200 is the next generation compared to the street which was already dated 2-3 years ago. But it’s a middleweight so who cares.
Good review as usual ride safe
Another great review, Chops!
417lbs wet that's amazing and it seems there is more savings you could still find here and there

great video it's getting crowded with all the super nakeds comming out with that being said will europe get the new honda 1300 naked ??? i've seen the videos from south east asia and japan....it looks pretty nice .............
I’m with you regarding keyless ignition, I had it on the Ducati and hated it.
The bike looks well engineered, but I’m not a fan of the hang dog headlights, or the colour schemes.
Everybody has different tastes, so perhaps it’s me,

Love your reviews Chops & keyless ignition would be a dealbreaker for me as I hate the idea for all the reasons you stated.
I’m between this and the 2021 KTM Superduke but can’t make up my mind. It switches everyday
Me too. I think for me it's gonna come down to insurance, but one or the other is gonna be in my garage by next month
First world problem 😂😂
Tested both (well, the KTM 2020). The KTM is a real beast with a sportier, more track oriented, outstanding handling. The Triumph is much easier to live with. The engine is smoother. And I agree with LCR, its handling is even better than the KTM. “Sublime”, he said. True. So easy. So natural. Makes you so confident. This being said, the very unpleasant gearbox of the Triumph is really a showstopper for me.
Great review Chops..... better than the sdr?? Steady on chops lets not get to excited!!!🤣🤣👍... Touno v rs v sdr??? Now that would be good. Keep up the great work 👍👍😜

It’s a track proddy racer in my opinion. Pull off the lights, drill the sump plug, copper wire it, racing plates. Too insane to put on the road . You could take that for a test ride around the Isle of Mann.
Great video.
There's one big problem with this bike for me, I spent too much money last year on a 1050cc Speed Triple RS, and I can't afford or justify swapping it in for one of these !
