2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS review - the big triple comes of age

- The 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS feels like the bike the Speed Triple always wanted to be - sharper, harder-revving, punchier and a proper competitor for the likes of the Tuono V4 and Super Duke. Join me on a summer evening ride and for a quick walkaround review.
Yes, I said it has 185hp. It only has 180. Sue me! (Or just buy one - it's a great bike.)
Easy fix for the rubber bung, its not a qaulity issue, just take off the rear seat cowl get pointy nose pliers and pull the rubber connecting string back through the hole. (It happens when accessing the bolt the cover needs folding up not pulled forward)
Loving my new Speed and I looked at all the other one's.
@@zxgeorger hi mate, quick thoughts vs 2021- Tuono?
Around 156 bhp at the rear wheel.
"only"
Very enjoyable sir, very good point regarding reusing the engine in the Tiger! 👍
You’re too kind! Yeah I feel this could be a springboard for Triumph to start punching up a bit (and charging £20k a bike 🤣)
I have bought one it’s arriving at the end of July. I can’t wait!
Well, how was it? Does it live up to expectations?
@@S1000xrhp it’s a brilliant bike it’s not “ comfortable “ though I don’t care what anyone says trust me o own one but it’s really fast it’s great fun and the power at 7000 rpm is super powerful but it’s a bit wild , I’ll try and sum it up like this - it’s a great bike but you have to focus and hang on , in other words you can’t just chill and go fast ! If that makes sense 😂
Really interesting & entertaining content, thanks! You got a new subscriber. As a former street triple RS owner and current SDR 1290 R v3 I’m happy with my new bike but I’d be even happier owning this one too 😉
Thanks for the great review. Nice to hear from you that the suspension isn't as harsh as others have reported in the past. Looks like I'll be picking my RS up next week, looking forward to it.
Enjoy it Robert and thanks for watching! Let us know how you get on
Great review buddy, very indepth, plus made me chuckle a few times, well done 👍🏼
I agree, great review! I have one. it's almost perfect
Nice review mate. New subscriber. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia 👍
Cheers Craig, appreciate it!
Cracking review mate!
Cheers mate!
Nice review mate. Thank you. Interesting take on comparisons to the Tuono and SD in your comments. Cheers.
Yeah - basically at this point they're all absolutely cracking bikes and it all comes down to personal preference, and the SDR was the most Tim Rodie of all the packages
Great video, what an awesome sounding motorcycle!
Cheer Pete!
If you were given the keys to a superduke or Speed triple which one would you have
SuperDuke. Just. It’s just a bit nuttier low down in the revs which makes it a slightly more entertaining road bike for me. But it’s close
Another good informative reviewer, now we don't have to listen to the biased MCN
For what it's worth I trust MCN - I just reckon they were reporting on how the bikes were on the launch event (ie probably set up for track)
God you sound handsome
Great video will be subscribing I think the previous speed triple rs looks better the new speed looks to plain still a fantastic bike stay safe 🇬🇧👍
Thanks Richard, appreciate it!
perfect bike for a 64 year old with attitude
Trying to decide between this, or the superduke, or the MT10...which is most FUN?
Just replied to you on another video - I don't think the Speed Triple is all that fun really. Superduke has more instant lunacy but MT10 isn't far behind in terms of fun and sounds better
@timrodierides thanks! Appreciate it
This or the new Tuono? Which would you buy
This. I've always, always wanted a V4 Tuono (well, since 10 years ago). But I'd get in trouble doing silly speeds to get the best noise out of it. The Triumph has a bit more real-world entertainment value
But of all of the supernakeds I've ridden, I'd get the KTM.
@@timrodierides Agree. I rode The Beast about a week after riding the Speed Triple RS and the SDR felt like it had real soul. The Speed felt just a little too sterile for me still good, but I dunno lacking soul. Sad to say I felt a little underwhelmed. It still handles fantastically and steers beautifully is really planted but ....... Fully agree with everything you said about this latest Speed, but the SDR just has the edge on the essence of what a super naked should feel like for me. Actually currently it's only about £600 more than the Triumph. However the SDR didn't seem as tractable and smooth as the Speed in slow town traffic as it's fueling isn't quite as good as the Triumph. It's like an angry bull at slow speeds.
hello
congratulation for video
sorry for my English
Finally you prefer the speet of superduke ?
I don't know which one to choose
I prefer the Super Duke :)
Superb as usual Tim 🤙 (where’s the new drivetribe podcast episode it’s been over a month now barely) 🤣
Rachael and I are overworked like little worker bees in an illicit bee mine. It might be a while, I'm afraid
(ps thank you!)
Does it cost extra to get it painted? ;)
Totally agree with you about the electronics...I want a bike that's gonna thrill me not wrap me in a comfort blanket lol
And...Great review btw!
I love that bike, I'm thinking to buy one but I'm not sure if I should. I have lots of experience in the road/track with a car, but on a bike (Z650) I only have 15000klm in 4 years experience in the road. Even knowing I have self control I'm afraid that monster could be to much power for me...
You could always start out in rain mode which is limited to 100 hp.
I moved from an Sv650 to a 17 s1000r with about the same distance experienced over 14 months. The smooth engine, agile handling and what was then arguably the benchmark electronic aids meant I “grew” in to the BMW. I have not ridden the Speed 1200 but I did ride the previous model, and I think the electronic aids on the 1200 RS would give you an even better safety margin than I experienced on the s1000r (which I still have, 47000 km later). My view FWIW - if you think about your riding, have self control, and happy to use electronic aids until your skills develop and then start dialling them back, I would proceed with your proposed purchase!
You'll be fine I reckon - that's plenty of experience!
Yeah I’ll be honest I own one Had it 3 months now and it’s phenomenal, especially at 7000rpm it’s great fun though , the wind is brutal on motorways it’s not nice but on smaller roads yeah it’s amazing, the suspension is firm but it’s not too bad , it depends on the road tbh not the bike , it’s very nimble the brakes are unbelievable so yeah I’d say you’ll love it but I’m small doses , after a couple of hours you’ll want to get off and have a break ! There that’s my 100% honest review 😊
Its very stiff and fast🤙🔥🔥 not soft like Mt 09😎( Nice review👍)
Thanks!
you are using to go pro
Speed Triples have always featured that horrible headlight set-up. Time for a change, Triumph.
I hate keyless. Why is keyless "nice"?
What’s wrong with keyless??
Why do you have it packed in the fucking mud?
Calm down internet man. You probably don’t like bikes getting wet either?
Transplant from New England to Tucson. We don't get much rain in the desert. If you had a Tiger then yeah, park it in the mud. 😉
@@timrodierides You would never ride it at all in the UK if you were afraid of a little mud.
Amazingly a bit of soap and water and it comes right off.
