There are guitar players, then there is Mark Knopfler.
100%

YESSSSS !!!
Yes,
But there is Mark Knopfler, and the others,
The best
Give the man a guitar and an amp and he will create the sound of heaven. Anywhere. Legend.
kemper modeler :)
@@DavidLeviGuitar Funny...it was very curious that an amp was nowhere to be seen on stage! Kinda hard to believe but it would make sense for a gig like this...
HALLELUYA.
God bless you.
I don't know anything about amps, but the guitar is clearly a Gibson Les Paul Standard. It looks like his 1959 model, but there's no way of knowing if it's a replica or the real thing.
@@ergmsg he definitely owns several really old Les Pauls, but I don’t know if he uses them live a lot
I was a trucker for many years and this was my favourite homecoming number. After a week away from home punching up and down the UK nothing made me feel better than listening to this full blast going over theThelwall Viaduct and my beloved Lanashire spreading out before me.Going Home is what I was doing.
It’s great when we can insert aspects of our own lives into a song and melody and it suddenly becomes our own Tailor made anthem…..love it’s meaning to you.
Gods country 😃
Ojalá que todos vieran lo que ves ..... Me tocas el alma con tus palabras. ... Palabras con hierro

This tune is played every time Newcastle United come onto the pitch. I’m a Sunderland supporter. But it reminds me of a good friend KIA in Afghanistan who was a devout Geordie. RIP Steve Campbell.
To your brave friend. Didn't know him but always a legend to me.
Just a spurs fan no affiliation to Newcastle but it’s just the most beautiful piece of music it moves me sometimes even still
Touched after reading this - true friendship over ruling football alliances!
What can I say. No words can describe this guy. The best just the best.
Man kann es wirklich nicht beschreiben, wie wundervoll Mark seine Gitarre zupft. Jedes Mal pures Gaensehaut Gefuehl.Einfach ein geiles Erlebnis.
Yup. But very few can recognize his talent
You did just truly describe Mark Knopfler.
No, he's better than that.
👍🏼👃🏼
So much feel, such little effort
So much music, such little beat
So much charm, such little band
So many chills by the crest of Mark's hand
Don't underestimate the effort. It just looks easy.
So good at playing it does look effortless... then I watch his fingers & all they do... makes me speechless every single time.
Exactely!
@@CarlosPT-hb6zb Going Home :)
@@fraserhenderson7839Agreed. The trick is to make it look effortless, even when a lot of effort has gone into it. That’s why Mark Knopfler is such a legend. He has that ability in spade-loads.
No one makes a guitar cry like Mark Knopfler ❤️🌹😢
I could say a hundred things, but words are not enough.....
But i'll say this:
Mark, thank you so much for your music being a huge part of my life for almost 40 years...
Please, never stop making music.
@@markknopfler3406 you have aged a bit along w me.
You were my hero.
I loved your your tone and únmistakable licks.
God bless you.
@@markknopfler3406 Yes, it's been 4o years. We are old now. Sometimes we feel like we play and sing together with you. Sometimes we even laugh together. As we got older we became like friends. Strolling in Les Paul is like walking through the forest in the spring. As JJ Cale said; After midnight, we love you.
Amen...me too. I was a fan when Dire Straits were unknown. I reckon I was one of the first to buy the album Dire Straits as barely a teenager...

I will always be forever in his debt, for teaching me, it's ok to be the only one
True
I agree with you, but you could have at least spelled his name correctly

@@OneOfTheRobs thank you for mentioning this, "Mark Knopfler" encore une fois, merci pour me corriger.

One of my all time favourites. I could listen to this over and over again.
Just sat here watching listening and in tears about me dad. Mark what are you trying to do to us all 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻👌🏻
One legend honoring another. Bravo Mark Knopfler.
Glad to see him again. He's pure talent, feeling and class.
Me too. Some how I thought he was done playing publicly. Gives me hope to see him live one more time.
And bloody hard work
Amen ... PURE talent, feeling and class
I think he's the best in the world
I totally agree with you
Stunning. Probably would’ve shed a tear if I was in that crowd.
Amazing.
Probably would've shit if I'd been in a toilet
Mark Knopfler playing Going Home for a tribute to Sir Stirling Moss at Goodwood = That's why we love UK
No words as you can plainly see the emotion in Marks face.....
Such a legend
No one does it like you Mark🎶🎸You're one in a million🥰❤️
Hello Joan, how are you doing. I'm Jones from Virginia. I hope you are doing well and staying safe. I'm looking for new friend hope you don't mind
It's moving to see him play with this sadness in his soul. The result was indescribable. I love MK.
Simply the best. Thankyou for the music Mark. You've played yourself into eternity.
What a tribute to Stirling Moss. Beautifully played - so soulful.
Beautiful tune with great feeling
i cannot listen to this song without getting goosbumps !! it just transfers me to my good ol college days when i had purchased a casette of this in 90s... Magnificent !
Sir Stirling Moss and Mark Knopfler - two of the most gentlemanlike and genius persons i know of.
He makes his guitar talk, sing and cry.. Make you wish he never stops..
The depth of soul from Mark’s music 🎶 will live on centuries and beyond.
An absolute eargasm.
In a selfish, blind and ignorant world, where i've struggled to belong anywhere, i want this played at my funeral. I'm hopeful that ill be going home then.
inspiring words indeed
I won’t be having a funeral nor a memorial. I’m donating my body to the same university that my late husband chose. But in the small gathering if friends I hold dear, I’ve asked that they play this song.
I first heard this when I was driving home for my father's funeral. I thought it was just me..........for all of us this piece has a place in our hearts.
Buddy, listening to music like this is heaven. It's a perfect fit. Now that you know, carry it with you in your heart and never forget.
Actually, I said my family in my willing, I want his music to be played in my funeral. Written, so they will do it.
Must have come back to this 100 times, perfect.
Enjoy the pure music ❤️🥰
His music always touches my heart. No one else like him.
Never in a million years will you find something more musically appropriate for such an event
Just wanted to tell you how much, your music has meant to me and how it has made my life. Just a little better. I was a young man when I first heard you play. I still remember how it made me feel, all those years ago. Truly amazing. Great success.
Always a pleasure. Mark, Guy, this song, everything...
What an incredible talent you are Mark. A beautiful gift to this world❤️

One year since I viewed this. And by God ain’t this something. Music from heaven.I’m stuck for words.
This ones for my beloved mum! 1942-2019.
May God keep her close. She will love showing you Him.
I just loss my mum in July and this song bring teartms to my eyes. Thank you Mark
In '85 I was crying and now 2020.. nothing changed: still tears are coming... why? I don 't know. His play, his voice, the stories he sings.... it is musical art of Da Vinci level. Thank you.
Thank you. You said it all. :))
Ditto. Never fails to give me goosebumps.

@@nateelter131 True!
Davinci level .. Yes that sums it up
This guy is a genius. The emotion in Mark's playing is absolutely incredible and that guitar sound he's created is on another planet 👌
Stirling Moss and Mark Knopfler.... Two men of magnitude.
Mark has really perfected the art of saying more with less. He plays fewer notes than most guitarists, but his music conveys so much more. Absolutely magical.
What are you talking about. He is playing the song as it is written.
Yip I'd agree 💯 less is more it's about the picking style and the use of vibrato and the volume pedal on the floor same as pedal steel players use ! he makes that look like a walk in the park he was influenced by chett Atkins style of picking and chett has gotta be the world greatest guitarist of all times sadly gone 🙏 but I did notice marks hand just slowing down a little but that's just age and years of playing but nevertheless the man's another legend of his own time and gonra outstanding just a guitar and a keyboard. ..other artists would have coppd out an used a backing track also but mark being the professional is totally awsome 👍👏👏👏👏🏴🥃
@Mark Hill you're carried away!🏌️
Protect this man at all costs!❤️
Thanks for your sincere compliment and love, i'm not complete without you as my Fan 🌹 I have you to be most thankful for 🌹🌹❤💕💕
No matter how many versions of this song he puts out, they never fail to entertain. How he does it is a mystery to me. A class act.
He loves music & I assume cars . I just wish I could see play this. Unless he plays a concert in the UK next year it’s not going to happen unfortunately.
@@beagle7622 It's possible he may do another UK tour in the future. I imagine he wants to continue playing live so fingers crossed. Hopefully another album may come out as well.🤞
I saw him going over his evolution as a guitar player. It's amazing how he went from pick to fingerpick and then had the AHA moment when he developed his tone. Went from 3 fingers + thumb to 2 fingers + thumb. He said "then I became the guitar's teacher nightmare". Well, someone's nightmare is many's dream! His tone and phrasing are inimitable.
Good lord! He's 71 now. What a legend. Been a fan since since I was 13, 11 years ago.
Me been a fan since I was 13, 39 years ago ;-)
No words to say. You're the best of the world. I love you forever.😘😘😘😘
A man loved and respected by all,
When so many were listening to the Boss, I gravitated towards Mark. Been doing that ever since. Still do.
Same
Bruce is by far my favourite.. But Mark is also something special. No one can make the guitar sound like him. Add his distinctive voice and songwriting and its pure heaven.
I have happily listened to both ,across styles and decades. We are fortunate to live in these musical times.
One of the best players EVER
(Class melody to boot)
WOW. What a feeling!!! Great Mark!!!
Thanks for your sincere compliment and love, i'm not complete without you as my Fan 🌹 I have you to be most thankful for 🌹🌹❤💕💕
One of the most beautiful melodies ever. I have heard many versions of this, and I love them all.
This is the only song in the world that I get emotional and choked up every time I hear it. Maybe because of the film, which happens to be one of my dearest films in the world, or the combination of both. I must have heard one hundred different versions of this song, and all of them move me invariably, as does the final scene of the film with the phone box ringing, and this song playing.
Wild Theme from Nimes 92 show is my favorite. Towards the end Mark and Guy look and smile at each other and they know they just created something special.
Oh I don't know...'On Every Street'? 'So Far from the Clyde'...'Remembrance Day'....'Brothers in Arms'..? I think all Mark's songs might make me cry a little.
If you're not touched by this performance, you have no soul
Mark knopfler and David Gilmour my two favorite guitarists of all time.. Legends✌🏻
exactly... i would also add jimmy page but still... the best of the best!
Hear, hear!👏👏👏👆
Me too
Definitely Gilmour is the best ever

If ever a man was blessed with too much talent in one body.
Without doubt a timeless classic..one of my favourites..but then he has so many..keep on rocking Mark..stay safe dude..
My life is punctuated with classics from the straights and Marks solo stuff. From the first white album through telegraph road to brothers in arms and beyond we have had some good times along the way - thank you Mark for a life times brilliant music - and more to come i hope
Me too! As a 10 year old stealing my dad's cassette tape out of his car to be able to listen to Alchemy, it was the start of a long road ahead of amazing music. Still listening each week, still loving every note.
Makes me remember my parents, who are long gone now. Such a sweet piece.
Me too. The version from “Alchemy” is my enduring favorite and it always makes me think of my Mom in particular. She was not a rock fan but she loved the tape of “Alchemy” I gave her.
So much music for such little motion. Genius!
A beautiful and wonderful tribute; without a single word!
It sounded like he was playing a hymn. Simply unmistakable.
Well we have all aged, got older, But this still fills my heart and soul. Timeless, 👍

This song always give me shivers... So emotional, so deep... I don't know why, makes me almost cry
.. Sometimes I wonder why time has to go by so fast ..
I was a child ... when I watched my play friend's dad on the television, you with the red headband and the red cuff ...
I listened to that music that I didn't understand, but that made me so happy.
I took this music with me ...
I found that those notes came from a group, from a man with a name ...
I took a guitar and spent hours trying to play those notes ... but to my regret I found that although the notes were (more or less) the same, the melody was completely different ...
That's why I say Mark thank you for existing and thank you for everything you wrote in the past.
Thank you for this very cool contribution by this wonderful musician and person. God bless everyone from Patrick
