What a charming and unassuming person Mark is. No huge ego or pretension - just one of the most talented guitar players ever. My favourite is the riff on the track "Tunnel of Love." Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time I listen to it. Thanks for all the great music, Mark. 🎸
Mark has given me the most musical pleasure throughout my life, and I am 70 years of age. Marks guitar playing has often brought me to tears with his moving methods of emotional crescendos and his individual riffs etc. I have not long left on this planet, but I wish I could just meet him to shake his hand and to thank him for what he has done for me and that emotional way he has made me feel so often. His music and the way he plays just sends me to somewhere special God Bless you Mark, thanks so very much mate. You have little idea what your playing means to me. Many will feel the same I know. Mark, you are a special musician, so rare with a gift that I cannot describe. Thank s so much!
Mark Knopfler is one of the finest human beings I've ever learned of. His creativity and his music are truly stellar. I truly love this man. In May of 2001 I flew from Phoenix to Seattle to see him in person. A highlight of my life.
I absolutely adore Mark. His talents leave me in awe. I get so much joy when he is playing his guitars and he smiles. I love knowing he enjoys his playing and that his hard work has paid off. He is a gift to the world.
BEEN LISTENING TO MARK FOR OVER 30YEARS, HE'S THE BEST SOLO GUITARIST IN THE WORLD, NO ONE WILL EVER COME CLOSE TO HIM, MARK YOU'RE TRULY SUPERB LOVED BY US ALL THESE YEARS!
Beside his place as a songwriting and master guitarist, I find Mark’s down to earth, humble presence so disarming and accessible. While watching this interview, did anyone else clap with the live audience after he spoke about and demonstrated the magic? Whether watching a recorded performance, listening to an audio collection or seeing an interview, I consider myself lucky to be on the planet along with him. 🌏☮️

I adore this man, I could listen to his stories all day long… as well as his wonderful music obviously. I also love how when he picks up a guitar mid interview (the correct one for the job) and starts playing and singing, he sounds like the record, he never slips up, neither with the guitar or vocally.
A humble man, turned down by so many labels but mastered his craft and proved the haters wrong. The guy who invented the guitar didn't know that he designed it for Mark Knofler
A genius who stayed humble. It was always about the music and not the fame. I think the whole band were like that. My father got to know their drummer on holiday. You wouldn't have thought a rock star and a lawyer would get along, but they became good friends...
There's a quote from Mark somewhere where he said if his fame got so big that he couldn't walk down the street to buy a pint of milk, he'd jack it all in :)
I can think of very few people who have moved me to tears the way Mark Knopfler has. His ability to combine lyrical and musical genius whilst capturing so many nuances of human experience and emotion in music are unparalelled (IMHO). He only had to pick that short melody from Romeo and Juliet for me to feel the deep emotion of the song. It's an incredibly powerful talent that is all too underappreciated.
I think god was on a good day when Mark came to this world to bring utter enjoyment to everyone who has been lucky enough to listen to him. I am in total awe of anybody who can play an instrument. But this man is a legend.

What is not to admire & love about Mark Knopfler? I love how down to earth he is & the world is so lucky he was born to go on to entertain & share his genius music. I am glad he also has had a quiet private life left alone by the media. But then he did not court it either. Just such a likeable person. xoxo
Mark always comes across so humbly. He was playing in Birmingham just a few years before Covid and was being interviewed by the local paper. They were sitting outside a pub on the canal right outside the arena where thousands of fans were arriving for the gig and walking past, and not one person going to his own gig recognised him sat there. He said to the journalist that's how he liked it - he never had any interest in the fame element. Even on stage he's always had a habit of unconsciously turning round while playing to just look at his mates and enjoy the music, then seems to remember the audience is there and swings back again. Always really admired that - all about the music and the fame seemed an almost unfortunate side impact to him.
I love listening to Mark telling his great stories about how he got started and how his classic songs came into being . . . I was born and brought up in Newcastle and it's great to hear the Geordie accent.

Mark did the soundtrack to Local Hero, and I had the track Going Home on in the car while taking each of my kids home from the hospital for the first time. That tune means an awful lot to me.
MK is a true legend and will remain as one of the rare breed of musicians who ever existed. Got introduced to his music with "Money for nothing" in the mid 80's and have been listening to his music ever since. Many thanks for uploading this interview and the other videos too.

I never tire of Mark Knopfler and his music. I saw him interviewed recently by Brian Johnson of AC/DC and now i hear they are doing another TV show together.

Sorry to tell you that he doesn't like fans. He just wants to write and perform his music and leave after his gig ends, and avoid fans, no matter how long we wait outside for him. This interview made me feel emotional during it, when he was playing those segments from his songs.....but then at the end you see how he doesn't shake Parky's hand and really struggles to smile while the audience are clapping and cheering. Despite giving such a great interview and having all that adulation, he looks depressed and drained suddenly. He's a genius but not a fan of people I don't think.

He's like your mates Dad who happens to be decent on the axe. A few stories, dry wit, banter and a ferocious talent which speaks for itself. Love Mark's zero ego personality. Total genius. "Calling Elvis" was one of my favourite tracks Dire Straits put out.
For a few years now, me and some old mates (all in our 60s) have had a blues band. We play for the love and will never be famous but we all agree that Mark is an inspiration. I have never lost my sense of wonder that someone can move a few strings and this incredible sound appears from nowhere, like magic and moves people to joy or tears.
First "Rock" band I ever got into as a wee kid ("Making Movies" album. Thanks for the introduction Uncle V!).... Still into 'em after all these years. Mark's guitar wizardry is legend (what I'll always appreciate is his use of fades, ghost notes and bending), but I don't think folks pay enough attention to his song writing. His ability to "tell a story" in just remarkable - and sometimes he doesn't even need words to convey the emotion ("Local Hero Wild Theme" anyone?)
A lovely man, i met him in cornwall many years ago, had all the time in the world for everyone, he was on holiday too, it was not long after brothers in arms came out, I was for the only time in my life " STARSTRUCK" A lovely lovely man
Isn't it sad that most people on the planet would rate One Direction or Taylor Swift over this man? They're not fit to tie this man's shoelaces. Proper singer-songwriters that play all their own stuff are like gold dust, especially ones of Mark's stature. The quality on display around that era is truly staggering, sooo many legends. Some aren't properly appreciated until it's too late.
First saw Dire Straits in 1978 at St.Albans Town Hall, supported by a very awful band called 'The Astronauts' - with only about 300 people - Of course they were absolutely fantastic - just wish I hadn't lost my red guitar badge the roadies handed out that night... never forget that gig, next time I saw them was at the NEC... Inspired me to get my own band together and go on the road.... Thank you for the memories and inspiration I'll never forget.
Oh Gosh!.. been trying to find words to express my feelings when enjoying Mark's songs but... where've they gone?! Has anyone seen them around?.... nope! gotta only say I love you Mark!💖

Awesome guitarist and one helluva vocalist
Thoroughly enjoyable Mark Knopfler! Thank you for sharing and God bless Mark and everyone from Patrick
What am unpretentious interview!
One of the world's best guitar players, playing some of the world's best riffs, and everybody is just chilling
The talent, creativity, and humility make him one of a kind.
A lovely man, i met him in cornwall many years ago, had all the time in the world for everyone, he was on holiday too, it was not long after brothers in arms came out, I was for the only time in my life " STARSTRUCK" A lovely lovely man
Fantastic Mark! Just fantastic...
Such a great musician songwriter. Making Movies is my favorite album of his.
Yes you are right ... People Now are listening from there Eyes Not Ears
Sad? No it’s pathetic
Thank you Mark, you always makes me grab my guitars and play from the heart
As I do. I can't use my fingers due to CP though.
@@pauljordan4452 wow I'm so sorry for that. I'm sure you're smart and will find a way to play nevertheless
Dear sir Mark, you are very much loved in Russia. Thank you for your creativity!!! Bravo!!!
A living classic. So recognisable and so unique. Cheers.
