Everything about this man is pure genius. ❤ I appreciate Clapton, Hendrix and Gilmore, but Mark cuts right to your soul. I hope he knows how much we all appreciate his talent.
Maybe my favorite Mark Knopler song ever. The flute, piano, guitar polyphony is brilliant. I was a signalman in uniform in 1983 when Telegraph Road came out. Automatic gold.
I've been listening to this masterpiece since when I was 11. From the Brazilian countryside, it's a proof of concept that music will always be universal.
What can you say ? To witness a performance like that is just spectacular. Mr. Knopfler is a master of his instrument, a great songwriter and beautiful man. We are lucky indeed to have him.
Mark Knopfler,Will always be one of the most special guitarists of all time. Your music takes me back to the most amazing years of my life thankyou my Brother in arms ❤ From NZ please come back and play for us 😊
My first musical loves were Beethoven and Vivaldi. But now I'm incredibly grateful and happy that I was born in the same era as the two musician/storytellers who's guitars are an extension of their souls & being. Sir Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour. You both enriched my life more than you will ever know.
In times when music has become a festival of rational and technical thought mixed with a gymnastic demand, listening to Knopler again reminds us that music is FEELED, not thought, and that with just one note suspended in time can move you to tears. Thank you Marck for leaving a beautiful mark in our lives.
This is one of the benefits of getting older: You don't have to play in a spectacular way to prove something. You play more relaxed, you play fewer notes, but those you play - boy! - they sparkle and are full of emotion and experience.
Discovering Dire Straights Better late than never. What songs have you heard and whats your favorite. I love Brothers in Arms, Romeo & Juliette cant beat a bit of Money for nothing and the Sultans of Swing....
As I make my way through all of his music through the years I discover the same thing. How did I miss that he continued on after Dire Straits? I listen to a song for the first time and some I will say oh, that's good but not my fave and then listen again and hear it differently. Suddenly it becomes another of my favorites. He is a mega talent. I've watched him in videos as he listens to the music and in his head it's all carefully playing out, so perfectly synced. He knows every song, every instrument, every musician, exactly the precise moment when something in one of his songs changes. I love to watch him play the guitar as much as I love to listen to him play!
Mark and Santana are the best guitarists I've heard in my 63 years, IMHO. Love his music. They are great stories of love, romance, friendship, travel thru time.
Takes me back as a child growing up listening to Dire Straits with my Dad .. Always thankful for him and my uncles introducing me to so many artist's growing up. RIP to them all and thank you for all the music that became our bond..
Only a few can play so exquisitely. Mark is one of the few who create a work of art when they play. Mark is so perfect in what he does that when you hear the sound of the guitar, he gives us a spectacle that you will never forget in your life. He is also a virtuoso who, thanks to his work and incredible talent, has achieved what only a few, standing out from hundreds or thousands of excellent or very good guitarists, have achieved. Namely, he has created his own, extraordinary, inimitable guitar sound and style of playing. Although I do not have perfect hearing, when I hear the sound of the guitar, I know immediately whether it is Mark playing or someone else. Finally, I will only add that if I were to create a list of the best guitarists, Mark would be in the top 5 on that list.
It seems so easy for Mark to sing ,just like a storyteller telling his story ,music is just flowing behind !!!! GOD BLESS YOU SIR for decades of nice music .
Ohhh My Lord!!!! ...this is simply BRILLIANT!!!... how can a man pack 500 years of history in sooo touching verses of pure emotion delightful harmony...... ohh everything under a Super Mestro leading a great band..... echoing guitar talking smoothly with the beautiful piano ..muuuch more!!!.... @@equaliser2265 Pity you can't write... or take the time to listen or check your spelling. I am not myself a front running fan of the man, unlike a lot here but you are completely missing the point. Mark Knopfler is not aiming at any vocal virtuoso or exploiting some bland musical space to give way to guitar mastery. Absolutely not. The man is a humble gentleman and a craftsman of stories. It's not soul music, but music from or for the soul, it definitely comes from the intimate and the most common of places we can all identify with. No superficial demonstration. He's telling the story of Telegraph Road he crossed many years ago on tour and its evolution. An authentic people's story in the tradition of all storytellers, from all walks of life. His vocal tone, no virtuoso there, but who cares? It's so in keeping with the melancholy and THE story he is weaving. You should listen to another great piece of his, set between melancholy, yet again and fragility. It brings tears to anyone who has a heart. No demonstration. Pure authenticity and storytelling "A Place where we used to live": ua-cam.com/video/GFnLXbcgmVw/v-deo.html
Was he really underated? I can remember how big Dire Straits was back in the 1980s. I still have their most popular album in my collection from 1985. It sold over 30 million copies.
I think his fellow musicians hold him in very high regard. As we know though, Mark is a soft - spoken, humble man with a humble performance style. Not flashy, he just stands there and makes beautiful music. But I think you're right in that he isn't mentioned in the same breath as song writers like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen or Jackson Browne, to name a few. 🙂
Mark the man! His fingers flow like a river, so smooth, such a genius! Underrated for his talent - maybe because not many have heard his solos or Dire Straits Alchemy and all the rankings are based on popular vote?!
I remember like it was yesterday hearing Sultans of Swing and just having my mind blown. All these years, Dire Strait concerts, albums, attempts to play like Mark later, his playing still makes me cry. What a gift.
What can you say, that already has not been said. One of the best guitarist on the planet, he has given the world that beautiful gift, along with the awesome song writing ability. Thank you Mark, appreciate what you do.🤩❤🥍 Your the best!
I saw him play this song in Vancouver years ago. It was worth the price of the ticket on its own. So sad he has retired from touring, my daughter is a big fan now and I would love to have seen him one more time with her.
yeah i mean he has a strong legacy, might as well leave out on a bang. he just looks exhausted these days, sad to see age has slowed him down. nevertheless, still GOAT.
Knopfler delivers such a gentle, touching and beautiful song,.. it's hard to get a message across and bring folks to tears at the same time, but Knopfler pulls it off and makes it look so easy... I ❤ You Brother! Thankyou!
That's true, his fingers are magic, and no one can play like him, how much fingers the man have, not many fingers to play like Mark Knopfler, and his brain are full with sounds, music and good stuff, in other Heads are a lot of Shit, Mark is a genie and I hope his live is long, when he's gone no one can beat him, no one come after him with this fingers and so full of music
Probably the cleanest guitar solo ever! Been listening to Telegraph Road since 1982 with how many different players involved (?) over thew years and it never ceases to send chills! I used to think 'Sultans of Swing' was the epitome of Mark Knopfler, but now I think it's Telegraph Road.

It's 44 years since I last saw him as a young man playing Sultans of Swing! I bet if you asked him does he still practice, he would say yes, and I'm getting better at it!
And the colours keep changing. MK must have created a hundred different versions of Tel road outro. I get the impression he just makes it up as he goes along with just enough consistency so that the band can keep up with him. He's just enjoying himself. I can't imagine he pens out a new score for every live performance. The reality is that this version only has snatches of the original, but what is consistent is his smooth performance of what is an incredibly piece to replicated.
He fell in love with the guitar and many have been reborn as a result. For me, Sultans shows a unique tenderness, truly unique..Notes just like kisses come out and just hang in the air. I want to send him.a.thank you card for Christmas...
The final 3-4 minutes of this song is one of the most sublime guitar solos I’ve ever heard (and believe me, as a music critic 40 years since my sophomore year in college I’ve heard plenty). MK is Ultra indeed! Keep on rocking

I'd forgotten just how good this track was. What an absolute talent Mark Knopfler is. I remember him first appearing with Dire Straits on TV back in the 70's playing Sultans of Swing and realised then this guy was something else.
I was reading a post about Nazareth Speedway which lead me to find Speedway at Nazareth which lead me to again, find a new live version of Telegraph. Blast of song. I own the original Alchemy albums which I had to make into mp3 because they were getting old. Me and my friend went to a place to play pool in the 90's and they had this music box and every time we'd play Telegraph Road and the guys who knew us were "not again a 15 minute track" but they ended loving the shit out of Dire Straits thanks to it, I'm talking in a place north Argentina where local style music is popular. Anyway, I always love to find what Mark's doing lately and I love that he's still playing and there's always a great solo from him.

Just Magic. I had heart surgery 8 months ago.
Listening to marks playing is a big part of my recovery
I know every generation says they had the best music but really, I think the music of our times speaks for itself. So lucky.
Everything about this man is pure genius. ❤ I appreciate Clapton, Hendrix and Gilmore, but Mark cuts right to your soul. I hope he knows how much we all appreciate his talent.
Definitely had some great music in the 60s 70s and 80s and Mark is right up there
He is a magician with the guitar... he makes it talk and we understand everything it says... love him!
He makes it SING
Maybe my favorite Mark Knopler song ever. The flute, piano, guitar polyphony is brilliant. I was a signalman in uniform in 1983 when Telegraph Road came out. Automatic gold.
I've been listening to this masterpiece since when I was 11. From the Brazilian countryside, it's a proof of concept that music will always be universal.
Thank you so much for Mr Mark Knopfler’s wonderful music !
Mark is a master of playing slow rhythms. His music always feels like sitting on a mountain enjoying a magnificent view.
What can you say ? To witness a performance like that is just spectacular. Mr. Knopfler is a master of his instrument, a great songwriter and beautiful man. We are lucky indeed to have him.
Mark Knopfler,Will always be one of the most special guitarists of all time. Your music takes me back to the most amazing years of my life thankyou my Brother in arms ❤ From NZ please come back and play for us 😊
His musik is terrapi to brocken heart😢❤
Mark and his guitar are one instrument of love, poetry
.He is the One
My first musical loves were Beethoven and Vivaldi. But now I'm incredibly grateful and happy that I was born in the same era as the two musician/storytellers who's guitars are an extension of their souls & being. Sir Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour. You both enriched my life more than you will ever know.
Life would be a mistake without listening their masterpiece.thank you so much iam turning 53 still love to hear you guys.
In times when music has become a festival of rational and technical thought mixed with a gymnastic demand, listening to Knopler again reminds us that music is FEELED, not thought, and that with just one note suspended in time can move you to tears. Thank you Marck for leaving a beautiful mark in our lives.
One note suspended in time.
My man. Same thoughts.
You are so right 🙏

This is one of the benefits of getting older: You don't have to play in a spectacular way to prove something. You play more relaxed, you play fewer notes, but those you play - boy! - they sparkle and are full of emotion and experience.
Hear hear
I'm 80+ how come this has only now come my way. I must have been sleeping - that's all i can say. Amazing!!
Discovering Dire Straights Better late than never. What songs have you heard and whats your favorite. I love Brothers in Arms, Romeo & Juliette cant beat a bit of Money for nothing and the Sultans of Swing....
I just turned 60 and am right behind you! Let's catch up!
It's never too late!
I hope you’ve checked out the alchemy live album. Particularly this song.

How am I today years old and hearing this for the first time? What a beautiful song.
Jeff Beck
Takes me back as a child growing up listening to Dire Straits with my Dad .. Always thankful for him and my uncles introducing me to so many artist's growing up. RIP to them all and thank you for all the music that became our bond..
One of my top 5 of all time. Fantastic lyrics and and the music, my lord. Mark Knopfler is beyond comprehension. One of the best of all time.
Mark Knopfler is superb. Lyrics / Music / Voice, the complete package!
Lost count how many times I have watched this! One of the greatest solos of all time!
Listen to Gary Moore
@@bernardcollins1943 I have lots. He’s great especially his collaboration with Jack Bruce. Mark’s technique and style just does it all for me.

No words for this level of wonder
Mark's guitar is an appendage of his heart.
...e della sua anima!!!
always loved how the song builds up to Mark’s majestic solo
I love his total unassuming demeanor. Effortless brilliance.
This song and Mark’s guitar solo transports my soul to the doorsteps of musical heaven.
Is toch een van de beste Muzikant die ik beluister, al vele jaren lang. Hoed ab Sir.
It seems so easy for Mark to sing ,just like a storyteller telling his story ,music is just flowing behind !!!!
GOD BLESS YOU SIR for decades of nice music .
It seems to me that God has already blessed. Mark.
By far the best guitar solo one will ever witness or hear. What else can be said? Mark Knopfler is a legend!
I remember listening to this song during the summer of ‘86. I was only 14 but I recognized something pretty special. It still is.
I think it’s one of the best songs of all time.
ONLY MY GREAT POET COULD DO IT!!!.THANK YOU MARK..💋💋🎸🎸🎶🎶❤️❤️💥💥

Pitty he can't sing.
@@nicolaslegrand9414 I loved it!!..🌹👏👏
The ONE and ONLY MARK KNOPLER...nuff said!
Amazing!! the most underrated songwriter of all time. Love everything he does Cheers 😎💗🤘✌🎷🎸🎸🎹
@@nostromo7928Right, but most of us put Mark Knoffler ahead of those others, especially as a performer. (but nobody writes like Bob Dylan)
One of the greatest anthems in the history of rock and roll . Respect .
One thing that stands out is the technical skill and tuneful riffmaking, all appearing effortless , just brilliance!
Nobody plays like him, a totally original genius.
AAAAAAA-men
Mark the man! His fingers flow like a river, so smooth, such a genius! Underrated for his talent - maybe because not many have heard his solos or Dire Straits Alchemy and all the rankings are based on popular vote?!
Unfortunately not now
@@cataclem28 Why?
Oh yeah😊🤩
His touch, feel and dynamics are unequaled. Amazing man.
What an beautiful song. This man is a musical genius. I hope he lives forever....

This Telegraph Road is so touching it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Mark!!!!!
Mine too, Mark is brilliant his solo,s always bring a tear
Thank you for your beautiful music . I get lost in it, and go to my happy place.😊
oh my....I have no words...the man is a genius. absolutely phenomenal
I remember like it was yesterday hearing Sultans of Swing and just having my mind blown. All these years, Dire Strait concerts, albums, attempts to play like Mark later, his playing still makes me cry. What a gift.
What can you say, that already has not been said. One of the best guitarist on the planet, he has given the world that beautiful gift,
along with the awesome song writing ability. Thank you Mark, appreciate what you do.🤩❤🥍 Your the best!
My life is better for having seen this guitar great play live, both solo and with Dire Straits. Two of the greatest live music experiences of my life.
Mark, you are an absolute genius. Thank you
Ye Gods! What an incredibly gifted musician! His brilliant talent stops me in my tracks every time . Thank you.
Timeless song from one of the most brilliant guitarists we have seen!
Knopfler delivers such a gentle, touching and beautiful song,.. it's hard to get a message across and bring folks to tears at the same time, but Knopfler pulls it off and makes it look so easy...
I ❤ You Brother! Thankyou!
Best song ever. This man has more music on his pinky than most kids today on all fingers combined. Those were the times.
OMG Yes!🔥💥🌟 Those WERE the Times!!❤️😎🌵🌺
Have all their songs. I think
True, but don't discount all of us kids - some of us still care to try.
There's a young guy called Marcin. And a lot of others stil practicing, some will get there. Hang in there!
He's not exactly holding back or hiding in that solo, now is he?
Sitting here my dog curled up beside me listening to pure genius and talent. It’s a MK kind of night!
This video is pure Gold, each second.. . the position, the sound, the colurs and of course the magie of Mr. Mknopfler... Shines! One of the best things of this world, peace!
I listening Mark music 35 years, still it is new. Amazing talent and tune.
What a beautiful music! Makes you forget all your worries. Thank you
Absolutely, exceptional musician!
Knoffler is the man! Love everything he does
I asked a guitar player friend if he could teach me to play like Mark Knopfler. He said, "We all want to play like Mark Knopfler."
😂 Well, as said, don't we all!
But, nice try anyway 👍🌟
And? Did he teach you then? 😊
If you enjoy Mark's style and sound, DylanGuitar04 is really worth checking out.
He's only been playing 4yrs and he can play any of Mark's songs with 100% accuracy as well as other guitar greats. When he plays Knopfler's solos in many of his vids he positions the camera so you can see the finger picking. It's magical.

His mastery of the guitar is beyond words...
That fact is not stopping people from trying.
Amazing! My favourite guitar solo of all time. And to think no two will ever sound exactly the same. What talent this man possesses.
I was 15 and in the late seventies spun my cousin’s vinyl collection, Dire Traits debut album touched my soul. And became my most sought after band.
Making Movies wore out more record deck needles than I’d care to remember.
Tunnel of Love refers to a ride in a fair ground , Spanish City in a north eastern seaside town,Whitley Bay.

Thankyou so very much from an 83 year old granny who experienced it all i must say our generation was blessed and hard to beat this guy is just totally amazing and out of this world 🌎
Mark just improvises a melody in a solo that many other songwriters would kill to compose for a song just once in their careers…
Mark is one of a kind. One of the greatests musicians in history with unique style and personality.
He still lives in his music, I am glad I lived to see such talent.
I love nothing more than watching him play and his fingers move up and down that neck! Woohoo! And his storytelling music! Beautiful Sir!
Quelle merveille !!! Les solos de guitare de MK me font monter les larmes à tous les coups depuis si longtemps.... pour moi, le King !!!
It's 44 years since I last saw him as a young man playing Sultans of Swing!
I bet if you asked him does he still practice, he would say yes, and I'm getting better at it!
Telegraph Road is always magical, a beautiful trip full of colours and the final solo is sublime.

Mark Knopfler style is so unique. That makes him greatest guitarist of all time.
The final 3-4 minutes of this song is one of the most sublime guitar solos I’ve ever heard (and believe me, as a music critic 40 years since my sophomore year in college I’ve heard plenty). MK is Ultra indeed! Keep on rocking
I returned to this one tonight to see if I’d somehow exaggerated
If you don’t have more than 15’’ to devote to listening to all of it, start around 9:28 in and then listen ‘til about 13:34. Amazing!
Fantastic when he starts pumping the tempo, wow
@@jerrysolari1530 Yep. Has anybody in all of popular music composed and performed more astounding songs for electric guitar than Mr. Mark Knopfler? And before you suggest the late great Jimi Hendrix, consider his way-too-youthful passing. Mark is still at it and as good as ever!
So did Bob Dylan. He didn't want to write or record anymore without the benefit of Mark on his team :)
What an amazingly beautiful piece of art. I have listened to this over and over again for the last 3 days. Just WOW!❤️❤️❤️
I'm utterly impressed by how quiet people are when he starts singing. You hear absolutely no one
