Why isn't he "Sir Mark Knopfler?" The man has been supporting great causes all of his adult life. And he deserves to be recognised for all that he has done to help those in need.
He tells amazing stories through his music, it’s just a completely different level to anyone else. Completely agree on that too so many good causes over the years and never in the limelight about it.
Following him for a while, I think he is the kind of person who does not care at all about pompous titles
Because he’s not a corrupt politician!
Maybe he has refused the title.
Many people do.
@@NeilJR he has an OBE, perhaps the firm have been a little distracted of late.
Was at St James’s Park on Saturday, and hearing the new production of Going Home was the highlight of the day for me. Sounded amazing in the stadium, and I’m a Wolves fan!
What a great man mark is.
Great song ... Great man ... wish other well known artists would follow Mark Knopflers example just think of all the good it could do for so many ... thanks for posting.
Such a good good man!
God bless you, Sir.
"What do you play on that thing?" "Oh I play some Dire Straits" "Ah, nobody's perfect" LOL, what a legend.
❤❤❤
top top top man
It has become a Geordie anthem because of the identity of the writer. However, they seem to forget it is from the soundtrack of a film about a small Scottish village and so would be more appropriate for Aberdeen FC. "Tunnel Of Love" would be great for Newcastle FC or perhaps "Sultans Of Swing" now that they have a Middle East connection.
Well thats nice
He was born in Glasgow 😉
A great musician, a great poet - but an even greater person - the ever-humble Mark Knopfler... one of humanity's most valuable gems.
What a lovely man. Such a change to the "celebrities" we have today. May his good work go on.
Well said m'lady
I'm sitting in Balmain Australia as a 70+ year old thinking how great Dire Straits (especially Mark) were in "my day", then I come across this video - Mark you are a real legend twice over - firstly for the music and even more for your charity work, you are real LOCAL HERO
Greetings from lreland. Lived in balmain 1988 1992.great pubs cricketers Arms, unity Hall, pig and whistle ,William Wallace. Worked on the mortbay units .Great place great people .hope it hasn't changed too much
@@cormacbailey775 Thanks for your message, Balmain like most places has changed since the 1980's a very different demographic but we still have more pubs than any other suburb in Sydney.! Now the pubs are more food-orientated but still great pub culture. Unfortunately, the William Wallace (the last unrenovated in Balmain) has closed.
Thanks for the reply. Iam 64 now when I saw your message,I relived my youth for a few happy minutes. Thanks for the memories, hope you are well and all the very best for the future.
I Hear you, I'm 63 and watching from Adelaide.
Richard we have been very lucky with all the brilliant music we've had over the years not like the drivel of today
Newcastle and the whole of Britain will be proud of your musical accomplishments and your charity work . Well done lad our local hero

Song was written for Local Hero, movie about Scotland.
@@Emeraldabroad2771but sees himself as a Geordie
He sees himself as British. All of his folk songs have a fusion of Scottish, Irish, and English folk tunes@@Geordiegirl36

A Geordie writing songs about Scotstoun? (Border Reiver) 🥱
I have the feeling that MK feels lucky to have been able to live his dream, and tries to share that luck with others very often. For those kids he is a real local hero❤
Mark is a truly unique person who has lived his life in a very measured and conscientious way. His own attitude towards living and learning every day has always been an example to me. His music lives inside of people´s minds and hearts. I have had the pleasure of hearing Mark play "Going Home" live many times. It would always be the last song of the concert and would always have a melancholy FEEL as you knew that this was IT. THE END of an incredible musical show in this supremely, talented man´s prescence. He embodies all that makes a full-bodied, fully-enriched person. Newcastle can be proud. As an English female, I am so very proud of this truly great man. I have signed posters of him on my lounge walls, a whole shelf dedicated to his music albums, all of which I listen to with great regularity. He has certainly made a "MARK" on my life and what a beautiful "MARK" it is. Everything he does is done with beautiful thoughts behind it which is why everything he does is a glittering success which millions of people will enjoy and be "ENRICHED" by. Just as the cancer patients and staff will have been so warmly touched by his visit. GREAT MAN!! Thanks for sharing.
For me, Mark never plays Going Home with enough "oomph" live, at least not compared to the studio version. I would, at best, call his live performances of the song as being a bit pedestrian, although his "pedestrian" is still a few levels above that of most other guitarists.
Lovely words - really enjoyed reading that.
@@robinwatson4282 Thank you! I could wax lyrical about this spectacularly talented man all day. I even included him in the dedication of my first published book!!!! Here is the dedication for your enjoyment! "This work is dedicated to all those who have loved me and still love me, my beloved family. To all the teachers in my life who have shared their knowledge with me. To each and every brewer of mint tea, who has shared their brew with me, along with their time and company and to each and every wonderful person whose path I have crossed and who has shared their pearls of wisdom with me. To Mr. John Lydon and `All The Young Punks´, The Clash, the late Bob Marley, the late Peter Tosh, UB40 and The Specials, whose pearls of wisdom have shown themselves to be just that! And to my favourite troubadour Mark Knopfler for taking me away with him on his travels and soothing my soul for the last four decades! Thankyou all, life just would not have ever had the same beautiful shine without you all!"
He stands for me for a Britain that's gone. The elegant Britain, cultured with a touch of sophistication, and a polite, respectful language.
I feel the same for my country, France.
He's literally still alive, so it's a Britain which is still very much still here. What you described is alive and well.
give over, troll peter
@@tompoynton It's hard to hear the truth, right, Tom?
From Thatcher onwards the British population has given their vote to one idiot after the other, with increasing idiocracy. The highlight so far: Boris!
A veneer of sophistication with a violent, racist mentality beneath. The British have always been the bastards of the last few centuries.
Mark Knopfler - absolute class.
The World needs wonderful humans like Mark knopfler🤘🤘🤘
Sir Mark to me !!!!
An inspiration to all. A true Gentleman.
Thanks.
I saw the movie Local Hero when it was released in Melbourne back in 1983. I fell in love with the soundtrack and still play it today - I never get sick of it. It's beautiful music.❤🎶🎵
Same for me. Still one of my favorite movies and the song continues to wind it's way through my life 40 years later.
Belgium instead of Melbourne, but dito....
This amazing man, a true professional being of life, and not just the brilliance of his life long work but also the way throughout he has kept good and proper his private life simply that - Private. No crap, no media spin and never making his music a politic forum.
Just a true professional who puts many to shame.
Thank you Mr. Knopfler for your life work.
Extraordinary musician and a national treasure. Simple as. Respect!!
As a father, it's hard to watch this without shedding tears for those beautiful young people who struggle daily with the worst of challenges.
To see Mr Knopfler's involvement like this is so wonderful.
We can only hope that the dreaded C passes us by without knocking, but one never knows. I just lost my beloved dad to it a few months ago. Can't imagine having a child go through it. Love from Sydney - Dave
Mark Knopfler a great human - a guitar legend
Love Mark , such a great man . Very humble and caring . RESPECT MARK KNOPFLER

I want to say something, but I can’t think of anything good enough to say about Mark Knopfler; just wish there were more like him.
Le plus grand de tous les guitaristes song writer et chanteursr
Newcastle is a place I would like to visit. Sweet folks there
Greetings from Tyneside William, I hope you get your wish sir, we'd make you more than welcome.
This song is so special to me. I played when I got home for the weekend at my parents farm, back in the 80s. I was so happy to be home! So I played this loud, the live version, I was home…. I was a student back then, I am 59 now. But this song still makes me feel 21 again, such a strong song. Didn’t know it was the anthem of Newcastle… sorry boys… maybe I will visit a game there one day.
One day, the full extent of Mark, and Dire Straits' charitable endeavours will be disclosed. It will be staggering. Well done Sir.
Great contribution to society, well done Mark and all the staff.
I originate from South West London and have had the privilege of seeing so many great British singers and bands over the years but my big regret is never having been to a Dire Straights/ Mark Knopfler concert. I just love the music some of which just brings tears to my eyes.
Oh how I can associate with your circumstance, I feel the same..why have I not seen this great legend live. Atleast we get to feel his music, it moves my heart & soul ❤️ 💙
This cancer survivor salutes you, Mr Knopfler. Your good works and kind words do not go unnoticed
What a great guy. A true legend in his own lifetime.
And yet another layer of Mark Knopfler is peeled away for all of us to see more of this incredible man.
what a legend, what a cause, we lost our only child from cancer, so, this cause is close to my heart, god bless Mr. Knopfler.
The greatest guitarist .period 😊 great songwriter too
There are many heroes and legends, there is only one Mark Knopfler❤🙏🏻
Mark is MY god !!! Since 1980 ! Thank you for this vidéo. Hello from France.
One of our absolutely best. Sir Mark!
mark i hope you realise how many geordies you inspire, not just through your music amongst musicians but also through the football fans and also your support for the various charities, you are very much loved and appreciated for not just your musicianship but your humanity too. respect, big respect.
Fabulous cause and great all round bloke is mark ‼️
What a great human🫡
May be the best human on earth ❤ without doubt the best guitar 🎸 player with Clapton and Green 😊
Legendary. His music is a big part of my life.
Going Home comes from one of my Fav films of all time "Local Hero". Conjures up seeing the Scottish scenery.
God Bless Sir !!!..You are not Just a Musician and a Song Writer but You have Done many Wonderful things !!!.. Sending You and to all Dire Straits Fans Love and Best Wishes from 🇩🇪.. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Mark Knopfler, and yes, as others have commented you are the hero, and all the others who have now stepped up and joined you with the new version of Going Home. Its a classic.
The man is an icon , and that is from a southern or even worse a London softie. All power to the man .
How wonderful is this. Whenever I hear this song, I think of my beloved son, serving in Harm's Way, how we will cry in each other's arms until there are no more tears. Thank you, Sir Mark. Bravo.
Mark is such an amazing charitable man 🎸
I’m proud of myself and Mark as Im listening him when I was 16 & now I’m 55
Saw them when I was 15; my first live concert. I turned 55 a few weeks ago. Takes me back to simpler times and I think I appreciate the mastery more today then ever before.
I was up in the nosebleeds, so I couldn't see Mark's face as he played, but the pure joy in his smile on this video says everything.
What a wonderful man! And he can play a bit too! Bless you Mark.
I've loved this song since first hearing it on the Local Hero soundtrack. It was such a small movie I had no idea it was so loved by so many ❤🇨🇦
From Canada, Local Hero is one of my all time favourites, I even went out of my way to visit Pennan on a trip to Scotland in 2012. This Song never fails to move me. Can’t wait to hear this version
The one and only mark we so respect you and adore your music
He is genuinely interested in these people you can see that. Great man. A lot of other ‘celebrities’ doing charity for themselves…
Why the need to be negative? Celebrate the man, that's enough. But if you're going to go the other way, have the courage to name names. Otherwise you're just the old man shouting at clouds.
But remember , Mark was born and lived in Glasgow till he was seven , it’s where he gets his Celtic touch to many of his tunes and songs , and this tune was the theme tune to the great movie Local Hero , filmed mostly in the NE of Scotland , great movie 😊
The beach scenes were filmed near Mallaig on the West Coast.
This man is so special.Brings me to tears thinking of what a great soul he is . ❤
Had the good fortune and Honour of meeting Mark, An Absolutely Smashing Fella, Warm Engaging and Completely down to earth, A real Gentleman and what a fantastic musician and songwriter up there with them all.. ⭐️🌞🙏❤️🙌
Can't believe i didn't realise Mark knopfler was a geordie!? Great guy. Music from my childhood
Mark Knopfler: An otherworldly guitarist and songwriter, and an even better human being. Blessings on him!
Cancer is bad at any age, been there seen that rang the bell. God love these teens, I wish them all the best.
Cancer in children is a good reason not to believe in god.
La música de Mark Knopfler es ,ha sido y será la banda sonora de mi vida....un compositor increíble..y una persona maravillosa
Un estilo único!!

Looking forward to Friday March 15 new release of Going Home with all those guitarists. Surely Sir Mark in the New year honours list for a great cause
Dear Geordies, Hi from the Scottish Highlands. This song means a lot to us too. If you listen carefully, you can still hear the phone box ringing.... If you know, you know.

What a great story, what a great man, I too think it's time for Sir Mark!
My fav stadium shows from the 80s are Dire Straits, great music, still played today. Lovely to hear MarkK doing this great work. Yes, he shld be Sir!! Cheers from NZ.

True gentleman, a legend and what a guitar player!! Good on him, every time i stand at SJP watching NUFC enter the pitch the hairs on back of my neck stand up and tear comes to my eye such is the passion and meaning this track brings
I’m a mackem…. But my mate who was killed in Afghanistan was a die hard mag supporter. Every time I hear going home I always think of him

My favourite track from Brothers in arms. It was the b side and I listened to it non stop for months!
God make's people like this for a reason, it's up to us to figure the reasoning.
Mr Knopfler a class act love youre guitar playng and youre music
Mark is awesome, its also great to see he is looking after himself and looking much healthier, I saw him live a few years ago and he couldn't move on stage, really great to see
He should be knighted
He's not doing the good deed for such reward..
What a wonderful Human being... Highly Respected... Thank you, Sir Mark...
Been playing this track from the album on full blast in every car I've had since 1983, starting with my MG Midget great sounding stereo car 'radios' had been perfected and this was hit on all the time. Not the best track on the Local Hero album though that accolade goes to The Way it Always Starts sung by the sublime Gerry Rafferty.
I'm playing it to my little daugther whenever she can't sleep or is stressed or upset. And it brings her down immediately every single time. ❤It's my all-time favorite track in this world (besides Telegraph Road), and I am lot into music!
A friend of mine just became diagnosed with Cancer during a common vacation on Malta. He was found out down there to have three Cancer Tumors in his brain, and hardly reached our home in Denmark before he died a few days after!
Top bloke who DOES it not talk it
How wonderful is that, bravo Mark.
He should be Sir Mark!!!
His album Screenplaying has so many soothing music and I would play them in my shop to the delight of my staffs. In it, there were 2 versions of Going Home aka local heroes
Im not a fan of Dire Straits but I love the soundtrack to Local Hero
Love Mark. A Real Man doesn’t have to be “tough”. ie. brothers in arms.
I agree , Why Hasnt Mark Knopfler Been Knighted As
Sir Mark Knopfler .
Top Respect Always To Anyone Who Supports The Teenage Cancer Trust. 💗💙
I think Mark is unique and this song has touched the heart of millions. You truly are a Local Hero
What a 'beautiful caring human being' Mark Knopfler clearly is!! And in addition 'huge respect' for the other musical greats whose unwavering passion for this is so apparent as well!!😊😊
A good example makes more people want to do the same....GOD BLESS!!! REALLY NICE TO SEE THIS KIND OF ATTITUDE...👋👋👋🙏🌍🌎🌏 UNITED WE CAN CHANGE THINGS INDEED...
