  • I always have to jump start my cars as they don't get driven all the time. I was after something reliable that was able to not only hold their charge over a period of time but could also start a car every time. I came across Noco and their Genius Boost products and I can highly recommend their products to you.

    Might be a good idea to invest in some trickle chargers for the cars that don't get driven or run regularly so you don't have to jump start them so often. Alternatively, you might want to just disconnect the batteries in the cars that are in longer term storage. In either case, these type of jump packs are great tools to have on hand for emergencies, or for semi-regular use in your case.

    • @PerformanceCarsChannel
      @PerformanceCarsChannel  7 років тому

      I've thought about trickle chargers but I can't be buying 10 of them and some even sit outside in the drive. I do disconnect the negative side of the battery but some cars like the FD2 have a cover in place so it becomes really time consuming just to get the battery connected again. Good ideas though.

    • @juandef4115
      @juandef4115 6 років тому

      PerformanceCars just invest in 1 Ctek Charger. Them buy adapters for all cars. The comfort connects are really easy to use and you can leave comfort connects on terminals for fast and easy switch over.

    I have found that even with booster cables hooked up to a good battery that an engine will crank slower. The clamps give very little contact area and sometimes have to be wiggled to get the starter to crank faster.

    I've seen lots off these videos, mainly with the GB40 and they look very impressive. However, they are all on petrol engines. Try the GB40 on a 2ltre diesel engine and it's a completely different story. The GB70 on the same diesel engine will start it once, but then it needs recharging before it will do anything else.

    • @raftermanhoward1883
      @raftermanhoward1883 2 роки тому +1

      I started a 2L diesel engine (VW Transporter) with my GB70 and then I started 2 water pumps right after that, the type plate on the side said that they both were 70hp diesel engines. After that, my GB70 showed 50% charge but to be sure I charged it anyway. It was around 10-15c outside when this happened, results may vary per 2L diesel engine and by temperature, but the GB70 is definitely not empty after starting 1 diesel engine, at least not in my experience.

      Sidney Mathious The Noco needs to see ~11-12volts before it will send out power. You can force it to output power by push and holding the ! button until all the lights start flashing. This will defeat all the safeties built into the Noco but will be necessary when the car battery voltage isn’t high enough.

    I do jump starting for a living here in Canada and I can tell you these Noco toys don't work. Ive had 3/3 customers who kept one in their trunk, fully charged, in case of emergency. In every case they fail to start and they ended up having to call me anyways. Every so called "review," Ive seen on UA-cam is conducted in warm weather so its unrealistic. When they're needed the most, when its cold out, (-5 to -20 Celsius) they don't function. I don't mind, its good for my business. The price for my service is pretty much what a GB40 is worth. Thanks Noco!

    • @gionidep
      @gionidep 5 років тому +11

      Don’t be so confident in your statement. That happens because people don’t know how to properly use Noco devices. On completely dead batteries (under 2 volts) the device won’t detect it’s connected to anything, so as stated in the device’s manual (and also shown in this video with the GB 30 model), you need to press the exclamation mark button first before trying to jump start the car. It’ll work for sure! If you don’t believe me, look at this video that shows a Noco device jump starting 5 cars (with completely dead batteries) in a row IN COLD WEATHER ua-cam.com/video/YKVH0CcWeMo/v-deo.html
      Be careful though! Pressing the exclamation mark button disables the device"s safety features like spark plug protection, wrong polarity protection, etc.

    Never jump start a S2000 with a battery pack. Doing so will will damage the rectifier(about $200 part) in alternator and cause the dash cluster to flicker when revving the engine. Source: S2000 guru Billman250.

    • @PerformanceCarsChannel
      @PerformanceCarsChannel  7 років тому

      Hey, I've never heard of this. How would you get a S2000 going if the battery is dead then?

    • @mugen2002
      @mugen2002 7 років тому

      I think you can't jump start it with one of those jumper packs. Connecting it to another car or battery might be OK though. I would suggest doing some research on this subject on S2KI.com. Your best bet is to either disconnect the battery and deal with the car running poorly for awhile once you connect it again or buying a Ctek battery tender. I had the rectifier replaced recently(no more flicker) and keep it on a Ctek battery tender.

    • @javaman2883
      @javaman2883 5 років тому +3

      Think in those cars the rectifier was already going bad, so it was not charging the battery properly, which caused the need to use a jump pack.
      If the jump pack really did cause the rectifier problem, then another car used to jump definitely would have caused a problem. When jump starting, the donor car should be running, with its alternator putting out 14.4V, which is more than any of those jump packs put out. Either way, a rectifier that's damaged by a jump start is either poorly designed or someone connected the jump start wires reverse polarity.
      Hooking the wires up reverse would blow the rectifier. There is no protection against this when jumping from another car, it's all on the operator to visually inspect what he's doing. It is nice that some jump packs are adding reverse connection protection, however that only works if the battery has enough charge to determine pos and neg electrically. If there's still a drain on the battery, it could read 0.0, and the protection won't know if it's reversed.
