Are they designed to run a vehicle/machine with no battery in it at all?? If there is no battery installed and you start and run the machine on this jump pack, all of the charge from alternator will be going into this little jump pack and there will be no battery to absorb all of the amperage. I don’t know if it can handle that?
Running a vehicle without a battery is fine if you do it for less than a couple minutes, to verify the engine is good. But you wouldn't want to run errands without a battery

I have two of these since 2018. Every few months I have topped them off. Recently I acquired capacity test equipment, which drains the unit until the USB output falls below 4V and reports the mA*h consumed. After a top-off, one of them provided 3030 and the other only 2431. After charging them both back up, the capacity increased to 3532 and 3492 on the second test. So in the future I will do a full discharge and recharge once a year before winter, instead of a frequent top off. Evidently the top off causes the three cells in the battery pack to become unbalanced. The full cycle seems to make sure all three cells are at their best. For those of you who want to do this too, keep in mind the NOCO can also be used as a power bank to recharge your phone or other devices.

You mention that the battery may be too dead to jump @3:40. The GB40 has an override button with the red exclamation symbol on it. You hold this override button for a few seconds and then the chaser power level lights will come on. This should only be used if the battery is completely dead and is not recognized by the GB40. Using this override setting disables the safety features of the unit but does NOT increase the cranking power as some people think.

Once you have one of these, you won't need jumping cables anymore. I have GB70. Used it many times. One of those times my alternator died on the way to drop off kid to school. LIkely it wasn't far away from home. I connected it to battery and closed the hood and drove like that to my driveway from kid's school. It was powerful enough to run a car with failed alternator. It wasn't far but still. Maybe more than a mile or 2. Other time I used it on friends Toyota 4runner SUV and he was so impressed with it that he actually ordered one. Just a word of caution. If the jump pack might be left in a hot car think about buying a LiPo safe sack. Should the battery catch fire from over heating the fire will be contained in the bag.
Max storage temp is 122 degrees F. Maybe Arizona or Texas, etc, but seems pretty safe. Anyone point to an instance of a NOCO - stored in vehicle - causing a fire?

Bought just before my 3-day trip because my battery went dead a couple weeks prior. Came back from the trip and found my battery dead again. Hooked it up and started the car successfully. I was so happy.
Nice review. I just picked up a GB40. I bought a cheaper one a couple years ago for my snowmobile as a back up. I wanted another as a back up for my 2 vehicles and this came highly recommended.
I used a GB40 at my job yesterday to jump off two completely dead V6 sedans. They were so dead that I had to press the boost button (override button) for both vehicles. (Which means the car battery was below 2 amps). It started both cars and I noticed the remaining power level in the GB40 was only decreased by 1 bar.
What is the override button and how do you know when to use it? (I mean if it doesn’t jump start the battery right away do you use it or give it 3-5 mins to charge?)
@@germandimplez The override button has the ( ! ) on it. You know to press it when, the multi colored lights aren't scrolling. You don't have to wait 3-5 mins in order to let it charge up before starting the car.

I just got one for Christmas! Something you didn't mention which is a great feature is the very powerful dual flashlight! It also comes with a nice drawstring carrying bag that way the jumper attachment and the included double sided USB-C cord don't get lost from the jumper unit. Furthermore, if you have a 12V DC to USB adapter in your car and a corresponding USB-C cord (remember, the included USB cord is USB-C on BOTH ends whereas most adapters have a standard computer USB jack) then you could keep the gb40 battery charged and topped off during normal driving if need be. One last thing I want to mention is that in the user manual it says do not use on frozen batteries. I don't know what the repercussions would be, but that seems pretty important to know, as car batteries are more likely to go dead in freezing temperatures.
Jump starters are like having a life saver especially in the winter. After having a different brand for 9 years, I just bought a NOCO. The temperature has been in the single digits (that's in Fahrenheit for all the intentional peeps reading this 😌) so I'm actually looking forward to my car not not starting just so I can use it 😂 I had a less powerful jump starter that I used dozens of times over a span of 9 years and it was a 750amp jump starter. The NOCO jump starter I just bought is 1000 amps so it gives me peace of mind knowing it has more power than my previous jump starter. These are well worth the price as they give you peace of mind, especially if you want to make sure your family members won't be stranded if the battery dies especially when it reaches the single digits temperatures in the winter.
Currently charging mine. I haven’t used it in a little more than a year and have had it for 2 years. Works great as long as it charged. It’s 25 degrees out where I live and I came out to a dead/struggling battery. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough juice to get it started so my roommate had to jump me but for the 4 times I’ve ever used it, it’s been awesome.
Sort. It’s more about the power they bring to actually start the car or truck. Some take a bigger initial jolt of power than others. But some have additional features like more or different usb ports, LCD screens, some even are combo tire inflators.
Can this charge a 12v battery? Not just jump it? Like if i just plug it in to my 12V marine battery will it charge it? Without being plugged into a outlet?
I have a GB70 and a couple of their charger/maintainers one two bank on my boat and a four bank in the garage. Never had an issue with any Noco products.
What do I do if I have to use the manual override, then turn it off and back on without the manual override, it starts detecting the battery but would not crank the engine? The clmps connected securely. The car was sitting on th elot for close to two weeks. A 2 year old Bosch battery made in Germany.
I used a GB40 to start 2.4L Camry with weak (not dead) battery. Worked just fine I keep it in my car for future use. Seems to hold charge a long time in glove box
I bought one for backup, never used it yet. I have a hybrid so it should be a piece of cake as there is no starter on a hybrid. The 12vt just starts the computer and runs a check. Then the traction battery starts the car by the power inverter.. probably safer to use one of these on a hybrid rather then jumpstart it.
Work at a shop we have an older model of this it’s not as well as the new one I just got. Flat dead v6 4.0l ford jumped it totally fine with two bars worth every penny!
Great informative video. Having some major issues with my 2019 Honda Civic Sport. Had to have the car towed to the dealership 3 times. Initially while getting on to the freeway, the car totally died. Had to have it towed to the dealership. they were great and said I needed a new battery. The next 2 times, the car would turn over but not start. Again had to be towed. Every test that the dealer could perform was done. They can't find the problem. The dealership even contacted American Honda but no solution can be found. I'm now on my third battery and have had the car 4 years. The tow truck driver jump starts the car and it runs like it should. This is why i purchased the Noco GB 40. It won't solve the problem but hopefully it can start the car and I won't have to wait for AAA. All of these issues have happened during weather that was in the 90s-100s. The car has never overheated and fortunately there has been no out of pocket expense. Thanks and have a great day!
I've just had one delivered today, but I found the manual that came with it impossible to read due to the ridiculously small micro print. So here I am searching UA-cam for information on it. But I noticed you jump started a dead car battery without first pressing the boost facility, it's just that one video I watched it told you to press boost first if the cars battery was dead. But hey, if it worked without the boost then all's good
I didn’t press the boost button because I wanted to try it first without it and it worked if it didn’t work, I would’ve pressed the boost button and try it again
Did you use manual override to jumpstart the dead battery? Did the lights on the GB40 chase when you connected it to the dead battery? All this crucial information was not covered in your video.
Sorry. It was my time testing out a jumper pack. I've learned a lot since then. But no, I didn't use the boost option. I will say of all of the jumper packs I have now the GB40 is my least favorite.
No. It’s not a charger. It only provides a single large boost of power to get the motor running. You need a trickle charger in order to maintain a battery charge over a long period of time.
Anyone that owns a boat should have one of these. I’ve been stranded in the middle of a lake in the middle of the night before. A noco would have been REALLY nice to have.
I've got the gb70 brought it couple days ago, comes with no charger plug witch is bad, so i’ve had to use a usb plug and it’s taken all night to charge, then when i've used it today i was turning over the car and it would start so kept turning it over for about 30 seconds and the jumper was complete flat!
Tried my NOCO GB40 for the first time on a 4 cylinder car with dead battery and nothing! What could be the problem? Used my CAT 1000A jump starter and it worked! GB40 FAIL 😢
I’ve got a 2.2 litre diesel suv and the batter was dead and the recovery guy used his big jump starter and it couldn’t do it, they are pros and do this everyday so can this little jump starter really jump start a 2.2 litre diesel ?
Great device used it few times worked each time. FYI - plug BLACK first and then RED and power on to detach poweroff first then disconnect RED and then BLACK There is manufature video confiming this order.
my NOCO genius boost seem to have stopped working after one successful use. Since then I used it to try to jump two cars and it just did nothing. I have the one for 6L engine (cause I have 4,2L diesel truck) and the other cars were quite small vehicles. I don't really know how to test it even. (outside of the dead cars that stayed dead) I have it for over 2 years - so no waranty
That’s a good question. Do you know if the batteries were completely dead? Was the car making a clicking noise or did any lights come on? I don’t know for sure, it I think for the jumper packs to work. The battery has to have a little charge left in it. I’m not 100% sure on that. But it’s the conclusion I’ve drawn from some other people.
@@SimplyMustGo Well one car was making clicking noise. It was Micra I think. Then there was BMW that some russians were desperate to jump. It had the battery covered in some metal case partially built in under the windshield, I've never seen anything like that before. I connected NOCO where they told me equivalents of terminals were - nothing. Oh yea and I was trying to jump after entire winter of not using, my Fiesta - completly dead. So maybe it was all cases when it could not work? I know clicking means starter is trying to spin and that means small charge, but other than that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just had a 1 year old GB40, never used before, that I've kept topped at 100%, fail to start a 6cyl truck battery - would just click. After attaching the 40 the lights would chase so it looked to be connected properly. Had to jump off of another car. Disappointed. Defective? Can you trust these?
The great thing about Noco is, because it's an American company, they are designed to start ridiculous capacity engines. That's great for us in Europe because we can just buy the cheapest version and it'll easily start 99.9% of all the vehicles over here.
once the car is running, then what?...do you have to switch the unit off before touching cables?...which do you disconnect first?...im nervous about electricity
Does the black or negative cable has to go on the negative part of the batter because I watched some other videos and they put it on the metal part of the car.
I just bought mine came without a charge. I’ve had it plugged in via USB. That’s it just plug in the wall USB and it still isn’t fully charged and it didn’t start my car.
Had a GB40 for a few years now... Managed to jump start a small car once....think was a 1.2L or so no problem but since have tried to jump start a 1.6L & a 2L diesel and both times couldnt even crank them.....both times the unit was fully charged...iether i have a defective unit or its just not uo to the job.
So I wouldn't need to charge the device in the wall? I just bought a different one from Walmart and it's saying plug into live grounded 120V AC power. I'm not gonna have a plug outlet so if this doesn't require it I will get a refund and buy this one.
Thanks, Matt. I hadn't used mine yet and forgot that the cables came in their own storage bag. I panicked until you pointed that out, then I knew where to find them. :)
Your battery maybe too dead. The battery needs to have at least a little charge for the jumper pack to acknowledge it’s plug into a battery to give it the boost power. You might have to go old school with jumper cables or get an actual battery charger not just a jumper pack.

Dumb question. I know nothing about cars. When jumping a battery, I think I was taught you connect positive to positive and negative you just ground to something metal? Is that wrong with these devices? You just connect to both terminals?
The cars I jumped off the other day only has a positive terminal under the hood, but no negative (the battery is in the trunk). With the GB40, I hooked the positive clamp to the positive terminal and negative clamp to metal and it started just fine.

If the jump pack might be left in a hot car think about buying a LiPo safe sack.
Should the battery catch fire from over heating the fire will be contained in the bag.
That is actually outstanding advice. Thank you!!!
RC hobbyist or just wise of lipo batteries? lol
@@Distracted_driving_kills Yup fly fpv drone.. my 6s are always in a lipo-safe bag during in hot summer.

Anyone point to an instance of a NOCO - stored in vehicle - causing a fire?
How does it handle below 0 temps if stored in a vehicle for an extended amount of time?
i have mine for 3 years and i have powered with no issues as all anything up to my tundra v8, definitely a game changer

But will it power your flux capacitor?
Thanks for the vid, im going to get 1 for my boat. At first i was unsure which 1 but now i know which to get.

Hell yeah its worth it. Its saved my tail many times. I've used it to help others as well.

You think this will start a semi truck?
@@EASTCOASTIMPERIAL Honestly I have no idea, I don't know what kind of power the ignition of a semi draws....that would be an interesting video test. I've used it a few times on our cars and it's worked perfectly...but can't speak to it on semis.
@@EASTCOASTIMPERIAL I think a semi will use more amps to jump, they have the 2000apms that might do a semi, this 1000 amps are for regular vehicles but don’t rely on my hehehe my Tacoma use 7-800 cold cranking amps to start the truck. Semi’s use multiple batteries I think so if you can find out the “cold cranking” amps “CC” to start a semi you can get the appropriate jumper

Thanks, I’m looking for a solution as it’s getting colder now.
I’ve jumped 4 sedans with this and 1 SUV last year. It’s a work of wonder.
And I’ve recently jumped my friends Sedan. I’ve owned this for a good 2 years and still work great!
That’s great!
Looking into one of these. I have AAA but let's face it by the time they get there, I could already be on the road with this thing.
Yes, but besides that, it gives you the tools to help some else you might find that needs assistance.

Car would not start ... my insurance sent out AAA... the guy had a Norco boost pro.. car started up in 2 seconds... he tested the battery and it was very low cause this was the battery that came with the car in 2018.. bought a new battery from the AAA guy but still ordered from Amazon the Norco boost plus for $99 plus tax... Just in case.
Got one for my boat that sits in a storage garage for weeks occasionally with no way to keep it charged. Works great.
Bought just before my 3-day trip because my battery went dead a couple weeks prior. Came back from the trip and found my battery dead again. Hooked it up and started the car successfully. I was so happy.
That’s awesome. Glad it worked!
Nice review. I just picked up a GB40. I bought a cheaper one a couple years ago for my snowmobile as a back up. I wanted another as a back up for my 2 vehicles and this came highly recommended.
Thanksb
What a great review.
Thank you very much!
Ive had mine for a year now. Still fully charged off full charge. 👍 So far so good
Wow that’s awesome!
bought one just recently, so very pleased I did
Awesome
I used a GB40 at my job yesterday to jump off two completely dead V6 sedans. They were so dead that I had to press the boost button (override button) for both vehicles. (Which means the car battery was below 2 amps). It started both cars and I noticed the remaining power level in the GB40 was only decreased by 1 bar.
out of curiousity do you disconnect red or black first
What is the override button and how do you know when to use it? (I mean if it doesn’t jump start the battery right away do you use it or give it 3-5 mins to charge?)
@@germandimplez The override button has the ( ! ) on it. You know to press it when, the multi colored lights aren't scrolling. You don't have to wait 3-5 mins in order to let it charge up before starting the car.

Aww wish I got it thru here. Just bought it after my taxi guy jumped me. Last time I took batt out and charged it inside but it was so heavy. Paid him 25 thought he was going to do cables but he used this and sold me on the spot. For women and for men actually we all need one. Buying one for my fam next
Got one for Christmasyesterday 👍after warhcing this video I have more faith that it will work 👍 very helpful video thanks for making it
I just got one for Christmas!
Great video, so great I went out and bought one! Thanks again for the awesome and very detailed review!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
Jump starters are like having a life saver especially in the winter. After having a different brand for 9 years, I just bought a NOCO. The temperature has been in the single digits (that's in Fahrenheit for all the intentional peeps reading this 😌) so I'm actually looking forward to my car not not starting just so I can use it 😂
I had a less powerful jump starter that I used dozens of times over a span of 9 years and it was a 750amp jump starter.
Nice. Let me know how it works for you in the cold.
This is perfect!! Definitely gonna buy it! Thank you
Currently charging mine.
You can also use these to start lawn mowers/tractors, snow blowers etc with electric start too.
so what is the difference between all the models? is it pretty much that they just hold different amounts of " jumps"?
Sort. It’s more about the power they bring to actually start the car or truck. Some take a bigger initial jolt of power than others. But some have additional features like more or different usb ports, LCD screens, some even are combo tire inflators.
I picked up the Noco GB70 when it was on sale. Agree with everything you said here.
Thanks!!

Can this charge a 12v battery? Not just jump it? Like if i just plug it in to my 12V marine battery will it charge it? Without being plugged into a outlet?
No it’s not really designed for that
@@SimplyMustGo ok
I have a GB70 and a couple of their charger/maintainers one two bank on my boat and a four bank in the garage. Never had an issue with any Noco products.
What do I do if I have to use the manual override, then turn it off and back on without the manual override, it starts detecting the battery but would not crank the engine? The clmps connected securely. The car was sitting on th elot for close to two weeks. A 2 year old Bosch battery made in Germany.
Are you supposed to press the "!" before jumping?
wish you had shown the boost button option
Musim mackat i tlacitko boost? Nebo jen pripojit?
I bought one because that's what roadside service used to jump my car. I've only needed it once and it eazy-peezy to use
Great review and looks like it is a good product! 👍
Thank you for advise, going to buy one today! 🙏 🇨🇦
Thank you so much!
Have they checked or replaced the alternator??
short and sweet ! thanks.
You’re welcome! Glad you found it useful!
Doesn’t always start right away, as I just found out, had to leave it on battery for a few minutes, but eventually did start. 👍🏻
Glad it worked for you!
Very informative, practical, helpful video. Thank you!
I have had this for a couple of years and could never get it to work what I'm I doing wrong it says it charged Len
Can i use this and leave it to maintain my battery in my motorbike?
No. It’s not a charger. It only provides a single large boost of power to get the motor running. You need a trickle charger in order to maintain a battery charge over a long period of time.
Any battery pack that's reliable is worth the amount you pay 10 times over. Saved so many cars with mine
I agree! Glad I had it when I needed it!
Just got mine for $60 on prime day
How to charge noco booster?do you need by separate charger?
It charges via micro USB. It comes with a cable, but you can use any micro USB.
@@SimplyMustGo They should really update to USB C nowadays
@@the_garniiics I don’t disagree
Anyone that owns a boat should have one of these. I’ve been stranded in the middle of a lake in the middle of the night before. A noco would have been REALLY nice to have.
Wow. Very true!
This wouldn’t be rated for something that big, but I just did a review on a AMProad one that would do that. I tested it on a big F250
Great device used it few times worked each time.
FYI - plug BLACK first and then RED and power on
to detach poweroff first then disconnect RED and then BLACK
There is manufature video confiming this order.
my NOCO genius boost seem to have stopped working after one successful use.
@@DanielTejnicky yeah I don’t know.
That's great for us in Europe because we can just buy the cheapest version and it'll easily start 99.9% of all the vehicles over here.
is it a good choice for a ATV ?
It should be plenty strong enough for an ATV
Which clamp to attach first? Red or black? Or doesn't matter?
I’ve heard some people say it needs to be red then black, but I my experience it doesn’t matter
once the car is running, then what?...do you have to switch the unit off before touching cables?...which do you disconnect first?...im nervous about electricity
You want to unplug the device from the cables and then disconnect the cables. Shouldn’t matter which cable you disconnect first.
@@SimplyMustGo Thanks! and once the engine is running you can unhook straight away?
@@tiggersmith7393 Yeah I would disconnect it, there isn't a crazy rush to do it but yeah, once the car is running disconnect it.
Does the black or negative cable has to go on the negative part of the batter because I watched some other videos and they put it on the metal part of the car.
Yeah it’s the ground. So I always put it on the black / negative battery terminal.
Ok
The Negative Terminal is taken ( attached ) to chassis . So any metal part would do . No reason not to use the Negatve Terminal.
Gb40 is a good unit !
Why didn't you show us the flashlight?
I just bought mine came without a charge. I’ve had it plugged in via USB. That’s it just plug in the wall USB and it still isn’t fully charged and it didn’t start my car.
Even my GB20 has no problem starting an GM 3.4L 6 cyl.
Nice!
Thanks for the great video
I know this video is older but great video never used their power packs before but we have used regular battery chargers at the lake for boats.

Don’t forget it has a manual override button ( press and hold 2 secs) for completely dead batteries with
Car won't open with button but can get in with key but it won't start my car says it starts dead battery but won't start mine any advice

You connect the positive to positive and the negative to negative.
The cars I jumped off the other day only has a positive terminal under the hood, but no negative (the battery is in the trunk). With the GB40, I hooked the positive clamp to the positive terminal and negative clamp to metal and it started just fine.
My red light explanation point is flashing what's the deal with that
