- We will give it a year or so and see how it goes. I did let it charge for a couple hours till it got to full charge and it never got above 1.5 amps input. Since recording this I’ve jump started my welder twice and 2 small fork lifts. They were all easy jumps but it still shows fully charged.

Bought one of them about two months ago on recommendation from a friend who works in the car port (the one for ships (and cars)) here in Gothenburg. They use the GB150 model and have used them daily for many years without problems. So far the GB40 is a champ, got me through the worst part of the Swedish winter. I have a 2.0 liter diesel with a semi bad battery and at temps of -20 C (-4 F), it gives me roughly 10 good cranks when the battery is at only clicking start relay charge level. Very well made and the clamps and cables feel really nice. A heartwarming product in the age of throwaway culture. When you do your 1 year review, I'll comment again and tell you about my own experience.

@@ADogNamedStayyeah i shopped around a little to see what else was out there around the same price range. We use one similar at work all the time which is why i was looking in the first place. Different brand but it spiked my interest none the less. Noco has been good to me so far.
Had one of the noco ones as well; it makes it through a winter in the car while holding its charge without problems, and has jumped by car & generator several times on one charge. Quality.
How many is many? I just posted on the main thread that I doubt this thing will last very long with frequent use. These are really made for consumers to charge up and put in their trunk and used once or twice a year for when they left the lights on or something. They are built for current delivery and not for longevity.
@@tarstarkusz id say at least 5 a month. I work for a car rental agency and a lot of the time it is a customer leaving lights on or something of the sort as you said in your main comment. Its in the truck now with 3/4 a charge and im sure i can get a few jumps out of it before needing to recharge. Works fine for the price in my book
My Grandpa got me that exact NOCO jumper after my car wouldn't start while picking up my cousin from a train station for my grandma's funeral. Used it plenty of times since on other's cars, but its battery doesn't last forever sitting in your trunk. Gotta bring it inside to charge once every month or two.
Bought one years ago, it worked so well jumping even a dead battery I bought a second one and a third as a gift for my mother who has trouble remembering to turn off internal lights on her car. I hope your experience is great as well!
I think you need to test it on a vehicle.. otherwise it's unboxing.. a mechanic should do a real world test. Please 🙏
I have one and absolutely love it. It's been perfect on diesel and gasoline cars. However, it lives in the saddle bag of my Street Glide with all my tools for the road. It works great on motorcycles I've had to help out. Me and the better half even attached the NOCO GBC007 to all of our newer Harleys with batteries that are tough to get at if you're on the side of the road. I think you will love this. It's really awesome and has worked better than expected for me.

I have a GBX55, so a step larger than this one. It was able to start a 4-cylinder gas engine with a dead battery in -25°C (-13°F) weather, after a week of sitting with the unit in said cars trunk, with temperatures ranging from -20°C (-4°F) to -35°C (-31°F) during that time. I was thoroughly impressed.
Great little jump pack. I've been using that exact model for about a year now with maybe 6-7 uses...plus I overheated it trying to jumpstart a military Deuce and a half but after it cooled down it still works. FYI - It will not start a 7.3 Diesel unless the batteries are just barely too weak to crank fast enough for the old girl to bark it off.
I think a forklift battery would struggle with a 7.3 on a cold day. 😜
That motor probably uses a 2000+A cranking current battery and this little fella only goes up to a 1000 amps, but they have models going up to 3000 amps in this series
I have one similar to this (different brand) I keep in my work van, which I rarely drive except when I'm working at a remote site, which usually last a week or two at a time four or five times per year. There was one year the battery in the van had gone bad and used this thing to start it the entire year. I could get about a dozen jump starts per charge with it. Now, about three years later, it still works great
I brought GBX45, (also based on project farm review for the larger unit) but in general, a lot of reviews point towards NOCO being the best of these sorts of products. Used it to start a Volov XC60, a Expedition 1998, and a few other cars - in MN winter when it was actually cold.

I've had this model over a year ,boosted my old f250,grand Cherokee and my son's kia,always works super awesome.
Charging cell phones drains it remarkably though.

Im also a forklift tech. I had this one for about 8 years and it worked great it finally died on me had a hard time starting even with a full charge. So I just bought the updated version gbx45 its been good so far.
These things are ridiculously good. Sometimes even better than 2/0 jumper cables! It's nuts.
Picked up the GB40 Genius and it's been a lifesaver! Used it in manual override mode on a completely dead car battery, started it pretty much immediately. The flashlight and usb charger are super handy too.
I have one at work. It’s not too bad for jump-starting small vehicles, but I found it didn’t have enough power for one-ton trucks. All in all, it’s pretty good!
My grandfather and I bought one when they were on sale at HD several years ago. When I worked at AZ I used to jump customers’ batteries. Jumped my own car. Jumped some thug with it. Never let me down. Love this. Excellent purchase

Was very surprised how well my Noco battery pack works. I brought the slightly larger one and it not disappointed me yet.
They are great. I retired my 1st one after 4 + years started small cars and outboard motors without a problem with 25 % charge on the Jumpstart after sitting for a year.
I ha e the GB40 for the vehicle and I have the GB150 that I jump gas compressors with. Ive had them since November 2020. Both of them are well used and awesome. No complaints.

I got a bigger one. I think you will like it . I also got the case for it . I like the case, which keeps it from getting beat up in the truck. Have had no problems after 4 years. Living in Wisconsin the it holds a charge in the cold.
I have a NOCO battery charger.
It will charge 6v or 12v.
Lead Acid, AGM and Lithium batteries.
It also has a recondition feature.
So far 3 batteries that would not hold a charge, now hold a charge.
I am very satisfied with the NOCO brand.
My GBX155 is a little over 2 years old now. i love it.

@@jothain my alternator cost under $100, battery every 2 years cost more than the alternator. 5 years.... same alternator. It's not putting anymore stress than normal, if I had a stereo system like when I was a retarded teen that requires massive Amp draw... it's a good way to ruin it. There is no more Amp draw than necessary to charge at 14.1v. It charges and I'm able to start it after a 15min.

I bought a GB40 to start 2.4L Camry with weak battery. It started the car right away. I did not have to use boost.

I bought the GB70 because a service shop I do work at replaced their charging units with it and had used it for over a year without any problems. It's only slightly larger, but has a larger capacity to jump large trucks. The fact that it doubles as a battery bank for charging other devices is also a great feature for many uses
I do not like that the gator wires are so short because they don't allow one guy to jump some vehicles, as the length isn't enough to set it down on a solid level surface and walk away to jump the vehicle
Literally used this sucker to jump my wife's Fit to get it to the store and buy a new battery this winter. Love the thing.
Have the GB40- it worked great the first year or two, now it can't jump my truck on its own with full charge (doesn't turn over at all, just clicks the starter- on a 5.4L V8). Still works fine for the wife's Toyota though
Ended up grabbing a new AGM/Lithium battery charger from the parts store to get the truck running, the last time I left a light on.
edit fwiw- also I've only stored the noco inside since I got it, so the only cold temps it has seen was while out trying to jump something
I have 3 of that brand. They work great. They don’t like cold or they can get hot. The safety systems kick in. That does help keep from wrecking it.
My dad and I each purchased the large jump packs and whenever we needed them they didn't work. It seemed like after 6 months they were trash. We had each gone through 2 or 3 and never got to jump anything with them. We both decided to never buy another one. A few years later I was talking to a road mechanic and he was putting a jump pack away and I asked about it because of how small it was. He said that he had it going on two years and he uses it several times a week and it had enough power to crank up diesels up to what comes in pickup trucks. He said he had another one in his personal vehicle and he said after 8-9months it still showed a full charge. I wrote down the information and I picked one up back in 2017 and I have used it several times for its intended use with no issues, I was even able to jump start a slightly larger diesel engine then comes in a pickup truck, and I have used it as a battery backup several times when the power was out for several days. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if and when it finally does go bad. Project Farm does some cool videos for sure.

Thanks for the video. I've purchase this exact NOCO for my wife's car, our kids cars, and my car. It's a great jumper. Note that the charging curve for the GB40 might reflect a higher current draw when the battery pack has a much lower charge. As I'm sure you're well aware, lithium batteries charge at an increasingly lower rate the closer they get to 100%. So, NOCO's claim about the 2.1A charging rate probably depends on how low its battery's charge level is.
I habe the GB150 and its been awesome. The red button you pointed to is the override if the battery is too dead to be seen by the jump pack.
Have the exact same one & its a life saver! Always have it in the van.
Nice review Wes, I have its big brother that I carry with me in my Duramax had it 5 years and hasn't let me down they build a nice product.
Back in 2015, my parents and I went camping, and in the morning the car was too dead to start (3.0L V6). My dad went to ask someone for a jump and they brought a jump pack. The very next month, and ever since then, weve had a NoCo jump pack a lot like this. As far as I can tell it still has at least 80% of its capacity, despite how much weve used it and drained it empty for the last 8 years
I had never heard of NoCo, but since then I've seen more and more of just how long-time of a brand they are
That's the exact model I use. Most times it works better than a traditional jump. Occasionally it's about the same. Rarely a battery is deeply discharged it just can't do it (in those cases it has taken the battery 6 hours on a charger to bring it back.) Jumps between charges depend on the discharge, usually at least 2-3 light jumps, or 1-2 deeper jumps. Charges easily overnight but can be easy to forget.
You can override it and jump the battery even if it's deeply discharged - that's the '!' button, but it disables the polarity protection.
@@lucienve I tend to forget about that, but even so, every jump has a power cost. This thing isn't a replacement battery, it's a battery booster. Below a certain threshold, it won't have enough power to boost it enough to start. Rough comparison estimate, the jumps where you'd normally need like 10+ minutes of idling a source vehicle seems about its limit.

You won't regret it! I bought one just after Christmas, and have used it on a couple of occasions. I used to carry jump leads, but I've had two alternators destroyed, and one battery by playing the good Samaritan. I also carry an Autowit Supercap 2, which has been a Godsend over the last two years. I hope the NOCO Boost works just as good over the same length of time.

I’ve had one for 3 years. Used it about 20 times. It works on my Honda Element, but not my wife’s Prius. The red button is for boost.
I have had the GB40 for maybe 6 or 7 yrs and it hasn’t let me down yet. Battery will hold a charge sitting in my trunk for a good 6 mos and hasn’t noticeably degraded. I’ve used it 30 times minimum, including several V8s and it’s always come through. I’m going to replace it when the time comes irregardless of the results of your puny little one year review. So I don’t get the point of all this, unless your channel is geared towards someone other than me, but that doesn’t make any sense.

This has been the battery for my 09 silverado for about a year now lol.. i havent had the time to trace the parasites that eat my battery yet.. mostly because this thing just makes life to easy😂 i just tell the wife its part of my anti theft program

I have been using Noco chargers for about 5 years and they have been quite faithful. I like having the ability to pull a very low voltage battery from the grips of death back to good health, not great but good. Otherwise, the charging capability is bueno.
my ole lady's son has one of this exact booster.. it's "ok" at best.. it'll reliably start any 4 or 6 cylinder.. it'll struggle with large v8s tho. I have one from audew 2k amp.. it's great.. it's never failed to start any motor (aside from a deisel, haven't tried it on a deisel yet)
I bought 2 of those 3 years ago. You should top the charge of about every 3 months. I keep them in my cars and the only times I have had to use them was at temperatures below 10 F. Both the pack and cars where at the same temperatures. The packs have started V8's in those temperatures with one try. Just keep it charged and it will do fine.

I've used the GB40 for three years, it does punch above it's weight it takes a bit more time to jump a V8 with higher CCA.
Note it can lose a charge with extended storage in extremely cold conditions, that may be due to the nature of lithium batteries.
Keep them topped off, family member had a gb150 go belly up after -F tempts and low battery. They do have a multi year warranty, and the gb150 has a voltage meter on it which is super handy.
Donc forget to keep it fully charged.

We got one of those for our restoration shop. Works great for 2+ years now. Just don't leave it out in the temperature extremes being a li-poly cell.
I had this model for I think 5 years, or 4. It was ok for smaller cars, not good for diesels. It randomly died the other day, would not charge or turn back on. It did it right after I used it for the only time on my own car.... I am likely going to buy the Topdon next. They are bigger but not as expensive, I have done zero research on them though
I have that. The rubber tab for the contact plug fell off too easily. It will start a “healthy” engine with a dead battery quite easily, it sounds a smidge laboured 1.6L if battery is completely dead but it’s fine. It does thermal cut out a little too quick for my liking. I’m happy with it. I use it quite often maybe 12 times a year. Flashy light turns on WAY TOO EASILY could get turned on maybe in the glove box.
I have the exact same jump pack. It can _barely_ turn over my 6 cylinder, 3.0 liter turbo diesel van. That’s how I learned it’s better to oversize these things.
I left mine in my car for a year and a half. I finally needed it and my car started right up.
Had one of these piles of junk many years ago it lasted 3 starts. My buddy also bought one his didn’t last 3 months. Good luck
The red exclamation point inside of the red circle is a button that is a manual override for the protection circuit. It will not automatically charge if the dead battery's voltage is less than around 2 volts. If you push and hold the red exclamation point it will then charge with no reversed polarity protection. It's all in the manual.

Noco makes good quality products as far as I am concerned. Have a Genius5 charger and the larger GB70 booster. Have not had to use the booster much but got it because my vehicles are quite old and I like to have a backup power source when camping without service. Will also use it for my tractor when needed (though my solar maintainer seems to keep the really old battery charged as much as it can be). I bought the AC power supply for my booster which charges much faster (36W). I also use the 10A 12V output as a DC supply for my RC LiPo battery charger. I ordered the matching Noco zipper case. I really recommend the case as it protects and keeps everything organized under the back seat of my truck. I really like the light feature of the large booster and often use it as an emergency work light (it’s actually the feature I’ve used the most so far).
NOCO sells a nice compact case for the GB40 for around $20. The part number is GBC013. I keep the gb40 in that case in my motorcycle saddle bags.
Wes, I have a GB40 (a couple years already). I’ve jump started a 6.5 Detroit V8 diesel with it. Don’t let the little size fool you…just let it charge the battery for a few seconds before you start cranking it.
Yea, I have a gb40, starts my late 90s Chevy v8 just fine. Get about 4 or so starts out of a charge before I have to recharge it.
Yeah, on a 6.5 diesel, you will only get one or two boosts at most. For the size of the booster, that’s pretty impressive.
That ! button is for if a battery is completely dead. The jump pack needs to see voltage when in normal operation mode to function. The ! button when pressed and held for 3 seconds bypasses the safeies and will let it work even if you have your poloaity backwards which normal operation mode would protect against
I have the 150 I use it ALL THE TIME starting quads and tractors. Barely uses anything hardly charge it. Plus it’ll spin over my truck without batting an eye

Ironically maybe the spacers were there for space. 😅 the two parts of the grip are further apart without the spacer between the clamps. Maybe having the spacer made better use of space in the packaging.

Bought a GB40 before 2020 cause my truck had a COMPLETELY dead battery (could barely even see the interior lights at night dead) parked at the side of the road at -20C (95 Suburban with 350). I used the emergency mode to get some charge back in the battery which completely drained it. I ran home, charged it back to full, used emergency mode for another 10 minutes to get more charge in the battery and then the ol' truck fired right up.
A couple things I noted about mine - the voltage at full charge is slightly less than 12v, like 11.89v if I remember right. On emergency mode, you can run a standalone car stereo quite well for extended periods, probably shouldn't though. You can also start an 1975 Evenrude 3cyl 70 hp boat motor.
My FIL was having troubles with his Toyota Tundra 4.6 when it was -40C out. With the booster we got 7 or 8 tries before the pack got too low to help anymore.

I got the kids each one about 2 Christmases ago and they been doing a good job. But the son is back home now and I've been using his instead of getting my own. My 15 GMC Serria's battery has been on the slow road to dying. A few weeks ago when we had that cold snap, it finally killed the battery and I had this exact pack in the truck. It must not like the cold too much because it almost let me down. It took about 10 attempts and finally had just enough juice to get the 5.3 started. It should have had a charge, but I can't attest it was a full charge.
The storage sacks are nice but that drawstring really needs a barrel cord lock toggle stop slider-type thing, esp. at this price. I'm about to convert my storage sacks with those.
If you buy the 2000A version from Griot's Garage, you get a lifetime warranty...but not on the battery itself, long-term. They're pretty generous with warranties/customer satisfaction there.
I got one of these when I was having car problems (corroded terminal connector) and I was able to jump my car multiple times on one charge.
I found one of those on clearance for half price at tractor supply a few years ago. Build quality seemed good but it would only do a so so job of starting my motorcycle, which is what I bought it for. It didn't seem to work very well for anything bigger than that. I gave it away with the motorcycle when I sold it. Maybe I just got a bad unit because I have only heard good things (except being priced a little high) about that brand. I have bought several of the jungle site units and I've had a lot better luck with them so far. But as with a lot of things, your mileage may vary. YMMV.
I'm pretty sure I've seen Eric from "I Do Cars" channel using this. So, if a dude who runs a car-centered business uses this that convices me. Looks sturdy too.

6:32 - No, that is the manual override button.
Normally, this won't jump your vehicle if it can't detect the battery but you can override that by pressing the red ! Button.
I've had the GB 40 for couple years now it starts the tundra, mabye 3 times, 2 for sure
I've repaired at least a dozen of NOCO jump packs now and eBay has many faulty units for sale so I'm not overly impressed with the robustness of these premium priced devices. Personally I've used a Topdon jump pack for a couple of years and it's still going strong.
I'd love to see it starting a vehicle just to show the entire process of using it and what that's like.
I’ve been rocking the GBX155 for the last few years, absolutely awesome jump starter. I’m afraid you may be disappointed by the GB40 though, to me the bare minimum point of entry in the NOCO product line is the GB70. Regardless I hope it works well for you!
I have killed 4, actual noco boxes. Went back to the old school large box with the SLA inside. This is just kicking around as a home user.
I bought a Topdon js3000 Couldn't believe charging it with my phone charger. Spins motors over surprisingly fast. Only thing I don't like is, if it is a hard start. It only gives you a 3 second shot. I have only pulled out the heavy jumper cables once in 6 months
ive been using my harbor freight unit to jump forklifts in the shop, seems to work great. it will jump the units with the mct engines in them without a battery. (great for cleaning out the regulator accumulator) when its normally behind the battery. do that in our shop for the 3600hr services.f

I used to work for a cell company, in the warehouse. I woukd collect the "scrap" batteries and pick out the "good" ones. I made three 50Ah 3S packs with cell phone LIons, and then run them in parallel to get a 150Ah pack. I have jumped my subi about 30 times and its still near full charge 😂.
I switched to using the Autowit Super Capacitor because you do not need to keep it charged and it works way better in the cold. I still have the Noco in the trunk just in case I need it to charge the phone in an emergency.
Best portable cell phone charger hands down. 😂
