This is actually meant for up to a 6 L gas motor. Not a 6 cylinder motor. This started my 6.4 l V8 gas Hemi engine in my 2016 Ram 2500 that had a bad battery with no problem. It actually jump-started it three times in a row before I could go get a new battery. I did make sure it was 100% before jump starting my truck. And after three jump start I think it only went down to 75%.
I purchased the GB40 for my wife’s 2021 Honda passport and have only used it on other peoples cars. The biggest engine it has jumped was a 5.3 liter Tahoe without any problems. I liked it so much I purchased the GBX55 for my F150. Great video sir!

I did the same thing. I was stranded on the side of 264 for 5 hours Friday night... dead battery. Saturday I bought a new battery and ordered a Noco off Amazon. I will NEVER go through that again, Lord willing.
Boost Mode (aka Manual Override) should only be used if the unit cannot detect a charge on the battery that is less than 2 volts -- appears you had some issues starting it, but you got it working. It's a great product!

It’s the override button that allows the unit to boost even when it’s not reading a charge from the battery. So if it doesn’t sense a minimum volt reading then it won’t boost UNLESS You hit th override
I work on engine driven machines, when the battery gets too discharged (sure you said your battery is 7 years old) they can be extremely hard to start even when jumping from another vehicle. I would give this a 👍

Great video!! What I noticed was at the 5:05 minute mark when you started boost mode on the GB40 the headlight came on. The ignition switch of the truck must have been in the run position. This may of also been a bit of a drain the GB40.

Yep and you have to hold the little red button down for 5 seconds at least and all the lights start flashing. The “boost” part is the removal of all backwards voltage safety features. An excellent feature to have to literally save your a- but at the risk of blowing it up. Do not get one that doesn’t have this feature. It may not see your battery if it’s too dead and your screwed!
NOCO shows the GB40 as being for V8s up to 6 liters... Not sure where the commentary about only for 6 cylinders comes from. But... I still think this is a great video to show what it can do...
Ok, well I was sitting in my car just outside of Canadian Tire and opened my new GB40. I couldn't believe that for $150 I didn't even get an AC adapter and was about to return it for a refund. I decided to watch a review. I was very relieved that your truck started, and I would call the parameters you put it through pretty extreme. I decided to keep the unit. It should be easy for my tiny wife to use. Thanks!
I just ordered the GB40 from Walmart for $88.99 on roll back. This video gives me more peace of mind for when it arrives. I had a Stanley 600 amp for smaller cars and it went dead in 8 months, and it was never used. I just want something to jump my 1.8 Nissan Sentra, if necessary. It arrives Monday!
The GB40 left my wife stranded in 34 degree temperature at 4:30 a.m. in the cold dark morning hours... it was cold, wet, and windy and she remembered that I put a brand new fully charged GB40 in her Buick with a 3800 series V6 engine....well let’s just say it didn’t have enough power to even turn the engine a full revolution. It cranked a few really slow half revolutions and it was completely drained so I had to come to the rescue with the “o’l faithful jumper cables” I would NOT purchase the GB20 or the GB40 if you have a 6 cylinder vehicle or larger... We borrowed a friends Everstart Maxx 600 peak amp jump starter and it will start the Buick right up no problem and still have a full charge. NOCO must of chooched them numbers up for sales, however we will not be relying on the GB40 for emergencies anymore. It works great to jump start my riding lawnmower though. I would personally buy the GB70 or GB150.
It’s designed for up to 6 liter gas engines and 3.0 Diesel engines so it’s made to start that 5.7 you have. Keep the good videos coming. Those gm side post battery’s suck. You have to make sure you get a really good connection with those side post battery terminals
I have the GBX75 and it is a super good product. Not only will it start a Diesel over and over again, it will also hold it's charge for ages. You can literally pull this out of your trunk after a year and it will still be at 100%. And this is stuff that just won't show in test videos and comparisons. Numbers don't tell it all. The product has to perform on the road, in real life. And Noco does. You actually used it wrong, but it still worked, which is another great aspect. These things are made pretty fool proof. I can't recommend it enough.
I'm in the market for a new lithium powered jump start. My antigravity micro start xp-3 jump starter battery swelled up. Recycled that before it blew up. Few years old but wasnt used all that much. Thanks for the video.
I’m impressed with this demo. I would put the negative ( black) on the engine block for better connection. I not a fan of side post batteries. The larger the terminals the better the connections.
Any vehicle battery that’s been sitting for six months with no charge is internally sulfated and destroyed. It would be best to charge it at a low rate rather than use the alternator. With that said, I believe the GB40 is a fine product.
NOCO website says GB40 is good for gas engines up to 6L. That second crank would probably have been successful if you'd cycled the key a few times to prime the fuel system. ;) (Can you tell I have a bunch of junk sitting around that I have to coerce into starting?) Good vid.
Cycling the ignition to make sure your fuel is primed was a good tip. Starter spray is also good in these situations when you only have a few chances before battery is drained. Warming or heating the block and the battery is a tip as well.
When it doesn’t read the battery (because it’s too low) it won’t work. The red button allows you to override this when you press it for 3 seconds. That way it will force battery into your car. But once you do, all safety measure will be turned off so don’t not mix up positive and negative. Owners manual says it is compatible with anything between v2-v12
Is it still working good after 6 years of use? Pretty Impressive that it could start a vehicle it was not designed to start when it's not even at full capacity. Pretty Good Positive Enforcement for the manufacturer. I just hope they still make their products to the same quality of this one.
If the truck has been standing for some months it probably takes a while for the fuel to be pumped through and as I saw on another comment don't have other electrical items like headlamps turned on. Also I noted that at the first go it wasn't happening until you made sure that you had a good clean connection to the battery.. I have just bought one.
I laughed, when the engine started, and months of dust got sucked out of the radiator, LOL! Been researching boosters, and I'm going with the NOCO GBX55, which is a more powerful unit, but made by the same Co. These really seem like they're pretty much the best you can buy.
Just a comment from here in Ireland. I have a 2009 Honda Accord 2.2ltr 4 cylinder diesel and the battery in my car is bigger than that in the video. My 2009 Audi A3 1.9ltr 4 cylinder diesel also shares the same size battery. I know battries go flat/dead but you seem to have a small battery for the engine size. Love the video.
These videos are hard to figure out as some say they’re good, some say no good, hard to drop good money on something that has such mixed reviews. I work up in northern British Columbia and Alberta where it hits -44 c sometimes in winter so I need something reliable. My cars always start no matter what even without block heaters but it’s always good to have a backup.
I wouldn’t rely on smaller booster packs in cold winter climate, I live in the north of Sweden with similar climate. Went for the GBX75 for a Corolla 1,6 L 4 cyl and also bought a brand new battery for the car. I will buy another GBX75 so I have two and can boost my Land Cruiser that uses two 12 V batteries to get 24 volt to the 4,5 kilowatt starter (the Corolla starter is something like 1,1 kw) The Land Cruiser is fitted with a 3,5 L, 5 cyl diesel without a turbo that starts really easy but I bet when it won’t crank you are in trouble due to the 24 V system. A single car can’t jump start you. I intend to use one booster on each battery. As a backup to the booster I keep large torch candles and a tarp as well as starter spray in the trunk to heat the booster, the battery, the oil pan.
Your battery voltage was below 2 volts. Seating there for a year. You should have let it sit connected for few minutes..To bring it up to 12.6 volts. Surprised the battery was even good.
Chances are better that great, that old battery itself sucked a lot on energy from the booster's battery pack, and wasn't able to return into to the starter motor
i think they make a wire kit that has lugs on them. So you can basically bolt the lugs to the battery studs and leave them there till you plug the Noco in when you need it. So you dont have to use the clamps. Most of the time the clamps are fine, but these gm side stud battery are ridiculous.
Indicating 50% means it is actually somewhere between 26% and 50%. Yeah and it got a little hot when the charge level was kinda low . . . trying to start a 5.7 V8. Good Honest Review of a Good Product. Still Impressive Results. I have a F150 and a GB70. Thank You
Glad you read the instructions, if the battery is really dead got to use the over ride. I love it! Your info was a little wrong also. The GB40 will start a 6.0 liter gas and a 3.0 liter diesel. So no prob with V8 you are starting.
I've always been a skeptic of these devices but after watching your previous video , I think I need to add one of these to my emergency road kit and leave the bulky jumper cables at home. Or maybe carry both?
Another great review. I have an Audi A4 Allroad 3.0 litre V6. The GB40 would be the right one for my car, but I've just ordered the GB50, just to be double sure 😁.

The product has to perform on the road, in real life. And Noco does. You actually used it wrong, but it still worked, which is another great aspect. These things are made pretty fool proof. I can't recommend it enough.
Idaho! Great review series on the Noco, I was rooting for it to start your truck.
I'm in the market for a new lithium powered jump start. My antigravity micro start xp-3 jump starter battery swelled up. Recycled that before it blew up. Few years old but wasnt used all that much. Thanks for the video.
Got here from 2017.... GB40 On my next purchase list. Thanks
Specs show... For up to 6.0 L petrol and 3.0 Ldiesel.
GB 40 $ 134 AU, GB70 $282AU
Antif Em May I ask where you bought yours in AU mate? Cheers. Great followup vid 🤙
@@jeffsaberon7714 did you find out were he bought it from mate, or do you think he made a error with his price, it sounds to good to be true mate
Been using it two years and just now learned how to use it. That always helps. LOL
I've used mine on 2 V-8's and a V-6, no problem.
With gb40?
When it doesn’t read the battery (because it’s too low) it won’t work. The red button allows you to override this when you press it for 3 seconds. That way it will force battery into your car. But once you do, all safety measure will be turned off so don’t not mix up positive and negative. Owners manual says it is compatible with anything between v2-v12
I just ordered one. Amazon Prime Day has them on sale for $68. Thanks for the review. Looks like I made a good choice for my 4runner.
I got that deal also
That is awesome...I'm sold on these cool little compact units!
It will start a 6Liter, so that 5.7 should start with no issues
Six Cylinder(3.0L) not a 6 Liter
Is it still working good after 6 years of use? Pretty Impressive that it could start a vehicle it was not designed to start when it's not even at full capacity. Pretty Good Positive Enforcement for the manufacturer. I just hope they still make their products to the same quality of this one.
If the truck has been standing for some months it probably takes a while for the fuel to be pumped through and as I saw on another comment don't have other electrical items like headlamps turned on. Also I noted that at the first go it wasn't happening until you made sure that you had a good clean connection to the battery..
I have just bought one.
Opal is a beauty!
Actually it is designed for a V8 up to 6.0 liters, and 3 cylinder diesels.
That's exactly what I thought and the GB50 XL is the next jumper up and is for 7.0 liters and up V8
Gb40 for v8 is more than enough
@@aistisstankevicius1537 Thanks bruh that's good news for me was wondering if it was strong for my V8 SUV
I laughed, when the engine started, and months of dust got sucked out of the radiator, LOL!
Been researching boosters, and I'm going with the NOCO GBX55, which is a more powerful unit, but made by the same Co.
These really seem like they're pretty much the best you can buy.
Thanks for review from Europe.
A fellow Idahoan. Buying on now for my Pilot Car vehicle. Thanks.
Nice. What part of Idaho?

I just bought ones found by accident a website Crutchfield it has accessories and if you need extra cables carrying case . Type in Noco GB40
You got my like right after Obo's cameo appearance! :-D
As a backup to the booster I keep large torch candles and a tarp as well as starter spray in the trunk to heat the booster, the battery, the oil pan.
just picked one up and the clamps got better
Your battery voltage was below 2 volts. Seating there for a year. You should have let it sit connected for few minutes..To bring it up to 12.6 volts. Surprised the battery was even good.
in Quebec Canada you can find it at Canadian tire store for 159.99 Canadian but i just buy one on Ebay.ca at 120$ Canadian shipping include .
I took a chance and got my GB70 for $149new on eBay 2 summers ago . . . and it really was new with a hard case. Shop around ???
That horse is so sweet xx
It started my 5.9 Dodge ram with no problem
If I buy a NOCO I will definitely get the GB 50 . Like you said the GB 40 is for smaller engines.
Loved the video...I just got one of these. I believe that it says it can boost up to a 6.0 liter so it will handle V8's.
It sais so
The GB40 is rated for a 5.7. Per their website, it's rated up to 6L gas engines. Maybe at the time the video was uploaded they had a lower rating?
I didnt even recognize you from teh winter review when you did 6 cars. Just ordered one. I have a 4.6 mustang gt. I think it will be fine.
It's designed for six liter engines not six cylinder engines. So a 6.0 V8 gas engine is what it calls for.
Good video
Just received then used mine. Great tool!
Chances are better that great, that old battery itself sucked a lot on energy from the booster's battery pack, and wasn't able to return into to the starter motor
Bought one brand new and it wouldn’t jump off my Polaris. Headed to return it.
We carry them in or patrol cars for other deputies and civilians. I’ve never had a vehicle not start using NOCO
@@cgeary76 I must have bought a defect. But I have seen them in action and I use a heavy duty jump box and it boosted the truck right off
i think they make a wire kit that has lugs on them.
Thank You
Your wonderful animals are diamonds!
Wow, as soon as he presses the bypass button, the headlights came on.
Glad you read the instructions, if the battery is really dead got to use the over ride. I love it! Your info was a little wrong also. The GB40 will start a 6.0 liter gas and a 3.0 liter diesel. So no prob with V8 you are starting.
Horse was like "how many horses under the hood?"🤔
I've always been a skeptic of these devices but after watching your previous video , I think I need to add one of these to my emergency road kit and leave the bulky jumper cables at home. Or maybe carry both?
Carry both!
Cool video bro from Columbia sc. love how you explain everything clearly 👌👍🏽👌👍🏽
I suspect you would've had a better results the first two attempts if the GB40 was fully charged. Pretty good for 50% tho.
Probably. This box is getting a little weak after 2+ years of use but it still gets the job done. JC.
Awwww. You named her after me! LOL Hi Opal
Good vid my Brother !!!! P.S. I love your critters !!!!!!!!!!!!
You nailed it Sir!!! Salutes!!!
Libby is the best part of the video 🙏😁😄
It would have started easier the first time if you close drivers side door.
Another great review. I have an Audi A4 Allroad 3.0 litre V6. The GB40 would be the right one for my car, but I've just ordered the GB50, just to be double sure 😁.
Always better to have a little more than you need rather than just enough. JC.
Great success and believable video. Thank you.
Awesome video sir! I have a Tundra with the 5.7 liter so maybe I need to get the GB50
Negative I have a dodge ram with the 5.7 and starts it fine I works best up to 6.0L
@@BIG_FETUS I appreciate the reply but went ahead and got the GB50 after contacting NOCO. That's what was recommended to me.
just bought this for my MC :)
