What can I say? The Guess Who Is the Greatest Group I've ever seen! Imagine standing ten feet away from Burt as he sang, leaning over the stage, driving the chicks crazy! What an experience that was!

I have watched many video clips of classic rock bands, back in the day, and they tend to always be lip synching. In this video THE GUESS WHO is NOT lip synching. They appear to be 100% live and they nail that tune spot on.
Unlike most variety shows of the era, Johnny Cash insisted on live-taped performances in the famous Ryman Auditorium as apposed to lip syncing (although applause was often canned-supplemented). As a result, there were only about three or four American TV shows that recorded live audio performances saved to history for posterity after Ed Sullivan was unexpectedly cancelled in 1968: The Johnny Cash Show, Don Kershner's Rock Concert and Midnight Special. And while Ed Sullivan aired live. he also permitted lip sync'd performances depending on the acts.

Burton Cummings was said to be one of the greatest vocalists in rock music , by Robert Plant , and THAT is saying something
One of the best voices in rock music.
The great Burton Cummings 🏆
Band sounded great. Tight, perfect timing, nice harmony and slick sticking by Peterson. But wow! Burton Cummings was a force of nature with just a powerful and soulful voice. Special talent.
What can I say? The Guess Who Is the Greatest Group I've ever seen! Imagine standing ten feet away from Burt as he sang, leaning over the stage, driving the chicks crazy! What an experience that was!
i grew up watching them in Winnipeg Started when Burton was still in the Devrons
A criminally underated band.
I work with old old timers they introduced me to the coolest music ever. Thank you old timers!
Somebody please tell me why The Guess Who is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame???!
Saw them in at the Norfolk, VA Scope in 1972. After playing a myriad of no name songs, Cummings took the mic and said….”People pay good money to see and hear a group play their popular hits…. We’ll tough shit”…… Lots got up and left. I stayed and they played all their hits at the time.
"You got brothers and sisters that care what's going to happen to you a year from now"! No more sadness no more sorrow. Dig each other. Words to live by in this pandemic year.
Bless you sir!
Wine, naked women, and The Guess Who!!!
I remember being 10 and watching this with my dad the original air night. He couldn't get past Burton's hair. I love that they're actully PLAYING and not lip-syncing, as most of those shows did. Also, how did they do those harmonies with NO monitors???
?
I am in love with Canada,God bless that beautiful land.
I just love the Maple Leaf Flag displayed on the oiano...Viva Canada! You have always blessed the world with great rockers! I speak for many US folks who are thankful and grateful to our Northern Cousins for all the love you have shown. It doesn't go unnoticed or appreciated. 😍
superb rock and roll voice, while at the same time melodic and soulful. One of the best voices ever.
I'm enjoying this everyday!!!! Listen to him everyday! Love his voice! What great talent, he's brilliant, and so gifted! ❤❤❤
Absolutely ridiculous The Guess Who is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And I am an American and I remember back in those days in the early 70s a lot of guess who are being played on the American Airwaves
Who cares? The rock hall is just an institution with a good name. It's no different than a Grammy, Peoples Choice Award, Kids Choice, VMA, or whatever. Any group or business could create a list of the best "rock" groups in history, and it would serve the same purpose. Ultimately meaningless.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not legit.
Well if they are not in this world's, they are in the next
They should be in the RRHF!!! Brilliant band!!!!

This is brilliant. I love the collaboration with Mr. Cash.
Got the Canadian flag on stage...so cool👍
Burton asked Johnny if he could display the flag on stage and Johnny said something like "If you as proud of your country as I am of mine, you should." The band did catch some heat about having the flag hit the ground, but Johnny supported them
Fact: At this very moment this tune is being broadcasted by 16 Canadian radio stations
amazing performance! Canada's greatest band no doubt
and RUSH and TRIUMPH........
NO, GU4ESS WHO
NOPE, GUESS WHO RULES, 25 TOP 40 HITS, 15 NUMBER 10S OR BETTER, 5 NUMBER ONES
@@nicholaosmiller2793: Both overrated!
Agree Love Anne Murray too Her early work especially
This is no lip synch. Nobody was better in 1970 than the Burton Cummings & the Guess Who.
Loved them from day one and 54 years later love them even more.
Love the Canadian flag on the piano!!! Goes to show they did not care about who they pissed off!! Proud Canadians!!!
They absolutely killed it that night. Awesome.
Legend has it Javier Bardem look in 'No Country for Old Men' was modeled after the bass player.....😅
Dear russallert - My Favorite Band of All Time! It was Awesome being only 10 feet away from Burton as he sang, leaning over the stage and driving the girls into a frenzy! He was much better "LIVE" than he was on the records, wow! 1971 Rocked!
Saw them in 78!!! Great band!!!
Share the land, one of my favorites!!!!
WOW!! Few singer's with Burton's vocal dexterity. His live performances were always note perfect and delivered with improvisation and clever word play. Not unlike a guitarist who never repeated the same solo. He was at the peak of his powers in 1970. Tremendous backing vocals and Kale in particular.
Burton Cummings voice is outstanding. He still sounds great to this day.
They were popular on the radio. Burton moved to Saskatchewan and played in our stadium.
My brother said they stated playing at the lake.
Home Grown talent.

Also, ABC's In Concert, which includes a very fine Guess Who show. ua-cam.com/video/IAdkX8cij7k/v-deo.html
Actually Don Kirschner's Rock Concert was NOT always live. Kansas appeared on the show once and was shocked that there was no audience.
Ed Sullivan waived his no lip-sync rule for the Dave Clark Five. They were the Britney Spears of the British invasion.
@@Mister_Pedantic : Dude, this comment is just wrong on so many levels.....
@@williammccall9563 I know. It's no secret that Britney Spears never performs live. Her management has said so. As for the DC5, it was a charade.
No auto tune. Real singers
Sooooooo GRATEFUL I was a teenager during this time...Amazing music and bands...I remember discovering these guys at my best friends...smoking pot and listening over and over ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Shout out to my home city Winnipeg! My Grandmother grew up with members of this band, hearing and seeing this makes me think of her. Wish they still made good music like this. Rock on!
Where has the talent gone? Or is it just that they don't promote quality like they did back then?
Unfortunately these days the shit floats to the top
Late 60’ s and early 70’s music can’t beat it
@@jeffkahl you have to go find good bands that play cover songs to find the good songs.
Garry Peterson was the greatest drummer no one (but me) talks about! The GUESS WHO rocked!
Today is his birthday!…I am going to text him..Happy Birthday…….He just moved to Florida recently…..
I have talked to him on the phone a few times….2 times..we talked for 1/2 hr each time!
Way to go Johnny, for having the best band ever on your show.
