I realize that Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend and Keith Moon seem to get most of the credit for the music, but John Entwistle really filled in the sound with his outstanding bass playing. He gave it such depth, much like Geddy Lee from Rush!
when you watch them individually, each of them are playing like they're in their own band. together - they're dynamite! have loved them since the 60's.
Wish they didn't cut off the last 5 seconds when KM jumps off the drum kit and Pete gives him a kiss on the cheek. Almost like they knew this was their last song ever.
This is the dogs 🐕 the best rock 🪨 song 🎵 ever written the drumming and guitars 🎸 🎶 and the singing 🎶 unforgettable experience must be played on full volume
From many things I've read Keith had fudged up several earlier takes, botching rolls and fills and really only hitting the off beat -- his drinking and drug problems were really messing up his playing. There were other problems with earlier takes so the director wanted them to play "WGFA" again to get a "good take," and all four members were pissed as hell and it shows -- they tear through it. But Moonie nailed this one.
@@JStarStar00 Being a drummer, one has to be physically in shape. The excessive drugs and booze destroyed Moon's body from 73 to 78 -- it shows here. Contrast him in 78 to the dynamo he was in, say, 68. You hear the difference in the playing. Still, in 78, he was good.
There was so much great music from this era.....I'd be a liar if this tune was not included among my say TOP 50 great songs of all time......the long synth...then how the song just builds and builds....really kind of reminds me of a Beethoven piece!!!
If anyone ever listens to the studio version vs. this version especially at the 7:37 time stamp of this live version when Keith Moon comes in it is completely different. It seems like he was slightly tamed down in the studio version versus the live one. If I'm not mistaken, this was recorded some 3 to 4 months before his passing. He was bloated and supposedly out of control from alcoholism yet had the energy at some point to produce this piece. God bless The Who, Keith Moon and John Entwistle! They were the truly unspoken backbone of this band! No one will ever be like either Keith Moon or John Entwistle! Also, thank you Gene Krupa for inspiring Keith Moon!!!! Among many other jazz drummers!!!
Chris conlan they don’t do rock like this anymore. Arguably the greatest assemblage of talent ever to grace the stage as one group. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!
PETE is a guitar hero, on stage he was outstanding, the way he plays and moves is pure rock energy. This performance can be taken as: This - Is - Rock.
I believe this to be, along with 'White Man in Hammersith Palais', the greatest rock song ever written as its themes are just as relevant today as when it was released and will continue to be so for the rest our lives and beyond.
Absolute proof that it's not who you are as a person but what you do as a band that defines your musical legacy - can't think of four bigger titheads, if I' honest, but they were utter rock and roll magic
Here are The Who performing "Won’t Ge Fooled Again", filmed on B-Stage at Shepperton Studios on May 25, 1978 in front of an invited audience including members of The Pretenders, Generation X, the Rich Kids and the Sex Pistols and included in Jeff Stein’s documentary The Kids Are Alright. This was the last time the band would ever perform with Keith Moon, as he died four months later, on September 7, 1978.
1979 is the release year of the documentary film this is clipped from ('The Kids Are Alright'). While the film contains performances from many sources, this performance was specifically filmed for the documentary on 25 May 1978.
An essential part the the Who's music is the keyboard playing. I'm wondering why they don''t show the keyboard player more in these videos. Isn't he part of the band too?

Pure gold. Recorded live 44 years ago. Still relevant today. Long live The Who, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix…..
Amen brother!
...Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Beatles...
rock n roll never die !!! Amen

Did peado Pete get back from resourcing florids
British 70’s and 80’s rock. Amazing!

Entwistle was one of Geddy's main heroes! Him and Chris Squire
I totally agree ❤😊
just like Ronnie Lane did for The Faces
💯 agreed with you !!!👍👍
when you watch them individually, each of them are playing like they're in their own band. together - they're dynamite! have loved them since the 60's.
Pete playing that Gibson and getting that clean sound. Yeah man respect for not playing slop.
No lightshow, no gimmicks, no dancers, no video walls... pure music. Pure talent. Pure joy.
Except there is a laser light show. Still an amazing band, though.
Finally. The original in digital, without obscuring Roger’s vocals 👍💥⭐️
The energy onstage is fucking wild
Totally!! After all these decades it gives me shivers to this day!!
🔥🔥
The energy is undeniable! No one can match it! No one!
Wish they didn't cut off the last 5 seconds when KM jumps off the drum kit and Pete gives him a kiss on the cheek. Almost like they knew this was their last song ever.
John Entwistle made this band become Thunder with his fabulous Bass playing. ✌️👊🤘🇩🇪😎
Never gets old.
I seem to, this doesn't.
The best rock’n’roll song I have ever linstened
How Pete doesn't trip over his cable is amazing. What a showman! Long live rock and roll!

Probably on e of the great rock records of all time-viva Who
So beautiful-this can make you cry- what we are missing today- such greatness....
And that, is how one, rocks and rolls
You kidding me ??? This is the BEST
Keith moon What a drummer 🥁

I suppose John looks around and says "These guys got the visuals covered...I'll just stand here like a statue and blast these basslines."
You can never listen to the Who without thinking of the Intro to any CSI show
I can
Keith moon is not a moron he was a great drummer I Miss you keith moon ❤ I wish you were still here😢
Grew up with this, will die with this..
nothing will ever get close...
John Entwhistle could drink a cup of tea in a crashing aeroplane and would not spill a drop
The 1st perfectly synchronised heavy rock band in history.
Best 3 piece band ever. Pretty great singer too
This was in 1978 at Shepperton, the last performance of Keith Moon
Keith Moon was a great drummer yes he was miss you Keith moon
A last one: not the best lead guitar, OK, OK. But the best riffer/rhythm guitarist on our planet. And that´s more worth, than every orgasmic solo.
and a fantastic composer and lyricist
I was so disappointed that I missed this concert in Philly in 1979 because I had to work.
I would've lost my job that day.
Must have been 78 ...Keith passed away that year@@pswallace
Rock royalty. You can hear their influence in many bands that came after them.
High energy - still performing - legend!!!
😍🕺🎤🎶🎸🥁💪👑🤩
John Entwistle, on of the most underated basist
Not really. He's on everyone's all-time top 10 Rock Bassist list. Always in the top 5.
Probably the best ever
My gosh, was that 45 years ago? The music is timeless!

I like the fact Townsend puts the guitar back on its stand at the end... 🎸
Very fitting for these times ❤
Meet the new boss

My favorite Band! I cnsider them #1...

The band at their high octane / drug induced and animated best! Those riffs still give me goosebumps 50 years later!
7:50 the greatest guitar strike ever recorded
Couldn’t agree more 👍👍👍👍
Agreed. Earth shattering. ⚡️💥✨
Power slide
They are all perfect. Masters of their craft. Nothing to beat this
The greatest live rock and roll band ever, any questions?
I think u2 around 1992 were up there..
@@marky1974 Yeah, that was a peak and then...
Love watching Roger Daltrey jumping all over the stage.
I miss you keith moon I wish we could still see you😢

the decline of western civilisation is real; the decay of late capitalism.

It doesn't get any better.
Townsend plays guitar exactly like I would play air guitar. But he has a guitar. And I have a guitar. THAT is the legend :)
I suppose I did't put it well, here's another: "meh!" :).
Басист всех тянет!!! Браво!!!
It doesn't get any better than this.
1979, can't be the date of this performance, as Moon died in 1978.

Thank goodness that Roger Daltry took over the job of vocals. What an incredibel band.
2x THE WHO LIVE IN FRANKFURT/GERMANY .. GREAT CONCERTS 🥁🎸💢🎵🔊🥁🎸

"I'll have whatever the gent in the white pants is having!"
Good one!
Fantastic!! Is this the last time Keith played ?
That is the loudest I have ever heard a Chick-fil-ay commercial.
Keith's last performance with The Who
Esta mal el título del video, no es 1979, si no de 1978, pues ese fué el año en que murió Keith Moon
AND THAT'S HOW YOU DO THAT!!!🇺🇸🇬🇧🇦🇺🇨🇦❤️💪
The Bass Player is epic
What do most hit rock bands from this era share in common? They all met and formed whilst attending university in the uk.
REVOLUCIÓN.......
Great comment on American politics. It’s got immortal legs
It's universal.
Headphones gaffa taped to Moonie's head :D
鬼カッケー😂🎵こんなカッコいいバンドが居たんだよね‼️
Cannot imagine how LOUD that was onstage.
Grupazoooooo!😍😍.
An essential part the the Who's music is the keyboard playing. I'm wondering why they don''t show the keyboard player more in these videos. Isn't he part of the band too?
Because they use a recorded tape for the keyboard part in those years
After Moon died they added John Rabbit Bundrick to the band
The keyboard was prerecorded by Pete Townsend.
Why does Moon do that thing at the beginning of songs where he pretends to hit the drums but doesn't? This is the second song I've seen him do this on.
He's following his click track and playback on his headphones. It's so he can come in on the right beat when he can't hear anything.
John Entwistle brutaaaaal ❤
He keeps turning it up to 11.
Super group..think soo😊
where was this epic recorded?
I don't know how Pete's knees survived that one.
