He also choked a protestor in front of news media. Google these things haha IMAGINE someone even getting that close to a US president LOL
i noticed that this fake band is using the name The Guess Who, now with what just the original drummer left? Jim Kale the original bassist(i think he left the group a few years ago?), they may have co written the odd tune or helped, but i doubt it, not really the band at all any one that would want to go any of their shows does not care? does not know? a Tribute band at the most? the real meaning of the tribute is with no original members or any members of the band that were with them in their hey day.
This happens quite often when there is an audience that enjoys music but has no clue about the musicians performing. Years ago, the small town I live in proudly announced that Foghat would be performing at the Spring fair. Almost everyone has heard of Foghat and can easily name one of their songs. Yet, hardly anyone knew the only classic member left was the drummer; most had passed away. But, you know what? It meant so much to our little town that a band as popular as Foghat would grace our fairgrounds, I kept my mouth shut. Everyone had a good time, and the faux Foghat put on a good show
@@melanieobremki4876 The owner of the group's name seems to have a say in which members are included when the group gets into the Rock Hall. Examples? Fleetwood Mac had Bob Welch excluded because of a money dispute. Original Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper (played on the first three albums), was excluded, he doesn't know why. Jim Kale owns The Guess Who name. Imagine if the group made the short list and Kale decided to exclude Bachman and Cummings.
@@rickybobby6760 I think that since Jim Kale owns the name, he could decide which members would get in the Rock Hall and which wouldn't. Other groups have done that.
Bachman didn’t leave because of a dispute with Cummings about or because of becoming a “Mormon”. Bachman suffered a bleeding ulcer that hospitalized him for a time and took over a year to fully recover from. During that time the band kept touring and Bachman didn’t return but eventually started BTO. You really should dig deeper and check several sources before spreading crap that’s not accurate, or misleading.
Burton Cummings was doing his very best electric Perry Como, while Randy Bachmann tried to out-Mars Bonfire Norman Greenbaum. GW did a couple lackluster LPs after American Woman, and faded into the Canadian sunset. Cummings went on to challenge Leo Sayer as a Pop Artist, but Randy Let It Ride successfully with BTO, until that, too quickly became another formula, albeit one influencing countless (supply the adjective of your choice)-metal bands. Creativity is a challenging skill to acquire any comfort at the best of times. Maybe we have to suffer to sing the blues, in truth. Living on the road takes it out of you fast, little grievances quickly become stumbling blocks. Look at Glenn Frey's treatment of Don Felder, a decade later, when touring was jet-fueled and cocaine-enhanced, nothing like the Ryder Truck days of the late '60s and early '70s Bob Seger sang of in Turn the Page. Competition got tougher, with Floyd's Dark Side and the Eagles shooting to the top of the heap. Guess Who was caught in a time trap, still a '60s band, in a the streamlined, tangerine-flake nitro-boosted 1970s. BTO did some truly classic tunes, but Burton's work never rose to the level of his previous contributions to GW, in my record-buying judgement (I was a partner in a record store in a major market, in the '70s). Guess Who were like the Canadian Kinks, capable of full-on rock 'n' roll, but better at blending folk influences with pop sensibilities, in Top 40 Rock, to create songs that resonated with the record-burying public. They deserve a place in the RnRHoF, just for American Woman. I can name a half-dozen BTO songs, without batting an eye, but I can only name one of Burton's solo efforts. That isn't a criticism of Cummings' approach to songwriting, so much as of AOR radio stations that didn't play him. They didn't play Tom Cochrane that much, either.
Who do they get to read these bios. This guy is better than some but you wonder if he really knows anything about the band or Canada probably just reading script. John kratian?! For Jean Chretien is a giveaway.
@@danacoleman4007 It was really good. They can both still perform well given their ages. They split the show fairly evenly between Guess Who and BTO songs. Randy can still shred a guitar and Burton can still work a keyboard and even played the flute. They finished the concert with the long version of American Woman and you could tell that everyone on stage was having a blast, not just going through the motions.
If I recall, the Guess Who was never inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. It has always been my contention that the reason was because of the song American Woman. While it was a popular song on both sides of the border, it seems the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame had stricter criteria on who they allowed in.
@@markchristman1076 Not that it matters much anymore, seeing that the RNRHOF is a total joke now, they aren't in because of Politics. Look no further than the former Founder and Editor of Rolling Stone Magazine.
The RRHF is a joke I know (Madonna, Rock'N'Roll?) but still thought the Guess Who Should be there but the more I look at it the more I understand why they are not. If Bachman had stayed I think the songwriting team of Bachman/Cummings would have been one of the best ever (look at what they produced together and on their own). But as much as they get along now they did not back then and Randy had health problems and was not invited back after his break. Burton brought in a personal friend, the very talented guitarist Kurt Winter who brought his songs Bus Rider and Hand Me Down World. I imagine a line-up of Bachman, Cummings, Kale, Peterson and Winter. If they were the Guess Who moving forward they, IMHO, would definitely be in the RRHF. They basically did it to themselves due to personalities and egos and since then with Kale owning the name the brand has been watered down to where the question is "Who are the Guess Who?". Anyhoo that is my take
When Randy Bachman left the Guess Who, he joined up with Chad Allen, his former Guess Who band mate, & Randy's brother Robbie to form Brave Belt. They recorded their first album with Randy on guitar & bass. Charles Frederick Turner was brought in to play bass on the live shows to support the album. The first Bachman-Turner Overdrive album was supposed to be called Brave Belt III according to Randy.
As someone who grew up through that time old enough from the band's inception to remember them, I think of them as pretty much a one hit wonder outside North America. Although "Shakin' All Over" was a hit, it was covered in my country and many others by so many artists around that time, Chad Allan and the Reflections version was really an obscurity. "American Woman" was the singular hit I remember them for. I bought the 45 vinyl single.

there was also something about the 1960's that had a sticking value that can't be discounted.

My fabor 2 rock songs from the Guess Who ( Canadians players ) are " American Woman" & " No sugar tonight " . during the late 60's , when I was 17 .
The guitar work on Share the land sure sounds like Randy Bachman
It's not, it's Kurt Winter.
They became Undun
The Guess Who ended in ‘75 except for reunion tours.Kale bought the name for a buck and sent out these tribute bands later on.No one considers them to be true Guess Who.
No but in the U.S.people don't know any better so they assume they are
@@davidayer2168you are right. Canadians know they aren’t the real Guess Who. I’ve seen Randy solo twice now and Burton twice as well. Considering I wasn’t alive during the 60s and 70s those were the best concerts I saw containing Guess Who music
Like everyone else---they got Old!!
With all due respect, if you don’t have Cummings and Bachman, you don’t have the Guess Who.
Went to a Burt Cummings/Guess Who concert six (?) years ago. May be the best concert I’ve ever attended
Was it a Burton Cummings concert or a Guess Who concert?
@@Robert_Lawson …. I think Burton Cummings was only original member on stage. He did the Guess Who songs. His band was great. I really enjoyed it. Would have liked it more if Randy Bachman had been on stage also. But I wasn’t disappointed. If there was a second show I would have attended it.
@@Idahoguy10157 Burton does not tour as "The Guess Who". If he was onstage that just would have been him and his touring band.
@@Robert_Lawson …. I’m speaking from a memory of the time.
@@Idahoguy10157 Just trying to clarify. Burton has not toured with The Guess Who since the 2000-2003 reunion era.
I enjoy these videos.
My wife's brother-in-law is Trevor Balicky, who was a replacement lead singer for a year in the early 80's. Good times!
Sorry, that was not The Guess Who, just a cover band.
Was that when they were the opening act for John Kay & Steppenwolf ??
The Spencer Davis Group
Velvet Underground / Lou Reed
Nazareth
Dave Mason
Mott The Hoople
What Happened to Dave Mason?

I saw them about Four years ago and they gave an awesome show
How sad, Cummings was really the star here, and from the get-go after joining this group. Wish you well my friend.
I had tix to see Bachman and Cummings...prior to COVID....then they had to cancel . I"m praying they'll come around again...they're on my bucket list of rockers to see!
Junior Walker had a hit with These Eye's
What happened to REO Speedwagon?
I am new to this band, and recently have been DIGGING their stuff from the OG lineup. This video taught me a LOT. First n foremost, RUDY SARZO?!?! wow. And now, as a Canadian, I will teach you something. Manitoba premiere Jean Cretien's last name is pronounced like "cret-chien" and he went on to be prime minister of Canada, who famously got a pie in the face on TV from someone who wasnt a fan. He also choked a protestor in front of news media. Google these things haha IMAGINE someone even getting that close to a US president LOL
He also put an arm around the neck of someone who got too close at a political rally (?).
Chretien was from Quebec not Manitoba.
Gary Filmon was the Premiere of Manitoba during the '99 Pan American Games.
i noticed that this fake band is using the name The Guess Who, now with what just the original drummer left?
Everyone had a good time, and the faux Foghat put on a good show
Kale owns the name. That's why they're not in the Rock Hall.
@@Mister_Pedantic Huh? Why should that matter?
@@melanieobremki4876 The owner of the group's name seems to have a say in which members are included when the group gets into the Rock Hall. Examples? Fleetwood Mac had Bob Welch excluded because of a money dispute. Original Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper (played on the first three albums), was excluded, he doesn't know why. Jim Kale owns The Guess Who name. Imagine if the group made the short list and Kale decided to exclude Bachman and Cummings.
Didn't hear any mention of "It's Time," the Guess Who's first album. It's really great stuff if you haven't checked it out
The best band not in the RRHOF; a ridiculous oversight unless it was intentional after all they are Canadian.
And the Grass Roots.
You may be right about "best band not in the RRHOF" but there is a good reason they're not in the Hall. Two words: Jim Kale.
I think the issue with their name, and a pseudo Guess Who still using it, has a lot to do with it
@@rickybobby6760 I think that since Jim Kale owns the name, he could decide which members would get in the Rock Hall and which wouldn't. Other groups have done that.
@@Mister_Pedantic Agree...but with the animosity, arguments over the 'real' guess who etc, the whole thing is messy...probably a big detractor
Good video but one small point: Jean Chretien was never the Premier of Manitoba. He was Prime Minister of Canada from 1993 to 2003
Burton Cummings always had a warped sense of musical arrangements.
Bachman Turner Overdrive and Burton Cummings solo is what happened to the Guess Who.
this was a thorough expose'.
thank you~
Dude, Jean Chretien (you butchered his name) was the former Prime Minister of Canada, not Premiere of Manitoba (he is from Quebec lol) 🤣😅🤣
FYI - John Chretian was not the Manitoba Premier. John Chretian was the Prime Minister of Canada.
Jean Chretien was the Prime Minister of Canada and not the Premier of Manitoba. 😊
9:30 Jean Chretien (not Craydian) was the Prime Minister of Canada, not the Premier of Manitoba.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. Why no mention
3:30 His recent conversion to mormism....
Jean Chretien was not ever the Premier of Manitoba. He was the Prime Minister of Canada.
Cummings, Peterson, McDougal, Wallace and the great Kurt Winter. The perfect lineup.
Couldn't agree more
I am sure you have been corrected but WTH add one more. Jean Chretian was the Canadian Prime Minister not the Premier of Manitoba
would like to see you do this same thing with The Grass Roots.

@@whathappenedtothem_ thanks man. this was very informative.
Who do they get to read these bios. This guy is better than some but you wonder if he really knows anything about the band or Canada probably just reading script. John kratian?! For Jean Chretien is a giveaway.
They have some imposters out there claiming that they are the guess who. They are nothing but a cover band.
Jean Chrétien was the Prime Minister of Canada, not the Premier of Manitoba.
all different personal changes they went from star baby and clap for the wolfman to goofy oooo my ooo didnt sound sound like tgw anymorre
What Happened to Barclay James Harvest ?
They became undun
Bachman pronunces his name "BACKman."
I have tickets to see Bachman and Cummings next July, postponed a year due to covid.
How was it?
@@danacoleman4007 It was really good. They can both still perform well given their ages. They split the show fairly evenly between Guess Who and BTO songs. Randy can still shred a guitar and Burton can still work a keyboard and even played the flute. They finished the concert with the long version of American Woman and you could tell that everyone on stage was having a blast, not just going through the motions.
@@robertpearson8798 Nice!!!
@@markchristman1076
Not that it matters much anymore, seeing that the RNRHOF is a total joke now, they aren't in because of Politics. Look no further than the former Founder and Editor of Rolling Stone Magazine.
"Album rock radio? Do you mean album oriented rock, AOR?
Randy Bachman was married with children. He wasn’t going to fit in. Rock n’Roll yes. Not so much the drugs and sex.

Manitoba premier Jean Chretien lol... check your facts
Able to keep up? Not me.
Anyhoo that is my take
Manitoba Premier Jean Chrétien!? WRONG!
The "fake" Guess Who is nothing more than a Platinum Blonde tribute band.
THEY WERE SND ALWAYS BE A CLASS ACT, KICK ASS, KILLER BAND. LOVE YOU GUYS.🧜♀️💜🧜♀️
Lol, we should all be so obscure. The Guess Who should be in the RRHOF, my friend!
You are saying "One hit Wonder" You really Don't know WTF you are talking about! Go back to SLEEP!
