I like him more than Elton John or Billy Joel in terms of piano players who sing. Elton and Billy are superstars but Burtons has better songs, and more of them imo.
This guy doesn’t need auto tune......he sounds exactly like the original recordings ......nothing to produce.. turn the tape on and record.....simply beautiful
My dads favorite band bought a brick at the rock and roll hall of fame and instead of having his and my moms name on it on the walkway in somewhere, he put the guess who should be in here. Grew up on this band
It will most likely happen when there is only one left. You see how they did it with The Moody Blues. There are many classic bands/artists constantly being denied.
Burton stayed in the hotel I was a bartender at, he peeked his head in around the corner and asked if he could come into my lounge that wasn't open yet. Of course I obliged. He was a very unassuming and kind man. Was a huge honour to serve him.
He and Randy Bachman used to hang around with Lenny Breau when they were in school and Randy used to cut school to jam with Lenny. Undun really has a lot of Lenny's influence in there!
:) One of the few songs I like that was written by "the other guy" Randy Bachman. It didn't come across much like Randy's usual traditional rock beats.
Nobody underrates Burton Cummings. He's got the awards to prove it and still working. His voice is about as versatile as they come for pop, rock, ballads. Just listen to him play around on this show. He can put more expression into one line than many of today's stars manage in an entire song.
I grew up with the Guess Who. They were the best Canadian band ever and paved the way for all that followed. They quite simply made great rock and roll music.
Imagine, riffing pieces of all these songs pitch-perfect at 7:00 in the morning and not even getting to some of their biggest hits, "These Eyes," "No Time," "Hand Me Down World," "Clap For The Wolfman," and "Rain Dance." Now THAT'S a catalog!
Growing up in Canada during that time, these songs were standard airplay... I can sing all of them without even thinking about it, and that was 45 years or so ago.
@rj zander LOL. I knew there was a secret to it. BTW, Cummings released a few songs from home during the COVID-19 self-isolation. You might find them on Facebook. Damn, 72 years old and can still sing and play well enough it's not patronizing to say he sounds good.
WORLD CLASS VOCALS. Burton Cummings has been my ALL TIME FAVORITE vocalist for decades. And that has not changed! WHAT A VOICE!!! The unequaled, UNMISTAKEABLE Burton Cummings.
All the real talent was in that era. The artistic compositions and melodic themes of that era though half a century ago are superior to anything on the radio today!
One of the best vocalists in rock music. Burton’s collaboration with Randy Bachman was magic and The Guess Who were never better than when Randy was still with the group. Bachman’s jazzy chord changes and guitar playing as influenced by the great Lenny Breau was a perfect compliment to Burton’s vocal inflections and fantastic range. The combination is most evident on Undun where Bachman’s jazzy chord changes are a perfect match with Burton’s vocal. The Guess Who absolutely belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
One of the most recognizable and the most beautiful voice that rock and roll was to know!! And for him to get up there at 7 o'clock in the morning, knowing he is not at his best, and him to share his songs with us, says a lot about this man! Wow Burton Cummings, thank you for the memories! 🎹🎹🎹
One of my vocal heroes. OMG, I know exactly the fear of "the high note". That makes him so human now. What a voice, though. What a voice. One of the best rock voices ever. He can be syrupy or gravelly, and both honestly.
He is one of the most under-rated talents of that era. Great song writer, singer and incredible piano player. He didn't do my favorite song by him, "I'm Scared". I love the piano in that song.
Why isn't this man in the rock and roll hall of fame
One of the most underrated male singers from our generation.
Underrated??? Not so much
Yeah, he had one of the greatest voices of all time.
I like him more than Elton John or Billy Joel in terms of piano players who sing. Elton and Billy are superstars but Burtons has better songs, and more of them imo.
Burton is like Elton John and Robert Plant rolled into one. Seriously, he is one of the greatest rock singers of all time--criminally underrated!
The Guess Who is one of my top five all time favorite groups. And Burton Cummings is one of my top five all time singers.
He was one of the greatest voices of rock 'n roll.
And it's often forgotten what a great keyboard player he was also.
Still is....
Thank you for your sincere compliment, love and support I’m nothing without you as my fan ❤️. And I appreciate your comments on my UA-cam channel
This guy doesn’t need auto tune......he sounds exactly like the original recordings ......nothing to produce.. turn the tape on and record.....simply beautiful
Why isn't this guy recognized as the huge talent he is?
Imagine being 21 and having These Eyes, Laughing, and Undun under your belt already. Man.
What a voice, still.
Burton Cummings is a national treasure.
One of the best vocalists of all time.
"These Eyes" and "American Woman" were massive hits in the USA. Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman are legends.
I drank many of beers to these songs. Great bar music.
They wrote “These eyes” when Burton was living with his Mom and Grandma and the pounded it out in 20 minutes on Grandma’s piano in Wpg.
He's so damb good. No electronic pitch control needed. Very underrated
Dude is amazing
Tremendous vocals and song writing. Should be in RR hall of fame
These Eyes is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Guess Who so underrated
Totally agree. I was hoping he would do These Eyes but he didn’t. One of my all-time favorite songs.
Oh fuck yeah in the Rock N Roll hall of fame Absolutely 😊❤️
Hi dear how are are you doing over there ?
I know it's said all the time, but he truly was one of the most UNDERRATED musicians of all time.
Burton Cummings is an icon!
Still waiting for the Guess Who to be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.
My dads favorite band bought a brick at the rock and roll hall of fame and instead of having his and my moms name on it on the walkway in somewhere, he put the guess who should be in here. Grew up on this band
You mean they aren't?
It will most likely happen when there is only one left. You see how they did it with The Moody Blues. There are many classic bands/artists constantly being denied.
Come on, the Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame is a stupid thing that should not exist. It means nothing.
"When friends fall out."
Burton stayed in the hotel I was a bartender at, he peeked his head in around the corner and asked if he could come into my lounge that wasn't open yet. Of course I obliged. He was a very unassuming and kind man. Was a huge honour to serve him.
This was great.
Damn... he’s the real deal!
Helluva artist and great voice
"Undun" is one of the greatest rock songs ever. Excellent chord changes.
John Shannon , I read the chords were Chet Atkins inspired
He and Randy Bachman used to hang around with Lenny Breau when they were in school and Randy used to cut school to jam with Lenny. Undun really has a lot of Lenny's influence in there!
Undun isn't a rock song, it's jazz. Since you like it, you should check out Take Five, Till There Was You by the Beatles, and Winter Wonderland.
Yeaaah, always had a thing for Secret Agent Man as well. 😎
:) One of the few songs I like that was written by "the other guy" Randy Bachman. It didn't come across much like Randy's usual traditional rock beats.
A true Canadian Legend! Proudly Canadian!👍
Burton Cummings is an outstanding singer!
So bloody talented yet probably the most underrated singer ever.
J. Sterling .....such a great voice. ✌️🇨🇦
J. Sterling When did the ratings come out?
Sooo agree
I agree totally!
One of my favorite bands of all time...
And that my friends, is what a musical genius looks like !!!!!
I could listen to Burton all day long...one of the greatest vocalists of all time, should have been in the hall a long time ago!
🥌on Burton! 🎹
His voice makes me cry ...
God, I wish pop music was still this good..
Burton Cummings was one half of Canada's version of Lennon and McCartney with Randy Bachman. They were terrific apart but the Guess Who was just magic
Underrated writer and performer
Burton you rock, plain and simple. Stand tall my man!
I am an "American Woman" and even the comments he made about us I believe he has one of the best Rock Voices.
DESPERATELY IN LOVE WITH THIS VOICE! The Guess Who has to be one of the most underplayed and underrated bands of all time. Burton Cummings is a God!
Thank you for your sincere compliment, love and support I’m nothing without you as my fan ❤️. And I appreciate your comments on my UA-cam channel
Saw Burton at the Bottom Line in NYC in 1977. I can honestly say that was the best show I ever saw!!!
Wow - I forgot how many Guess Who songs I used to love until this genius strung them together. American Woman one of my all time favorite rockers.
He’s a Canadian icon. One of the greatest musicians of our time. Unbelievable talent...hit after hit...right up there with Geddy Lee.
What a bunch of great songs
Burton is without a shadow of a doubt a Hall of Famer thru & thru...
Amazing how this version of “Stand Tall” is my favourite.
Growing up in Canada during that time, these songs were standard airplay... I can sing all of them without even thinking about it, and that was 45 years or so ago.
Me too, except I grew up in the southwest US.
Dale Kidd yup. Victoria born and raised on Guess Who 💪
Word
Yep I grew up in Canada in the 70's.....heard his voice all the time u
You got it you mentioned the Vietnam war. Beautiful you and Randy Bachman. You stole my heart ❤️ years ago 17
wow what a voice
What a Voice!
Spent my college years on the Canadian border listening to Ottawa radio....we heard a lot of them... Burton at the end of "No Time" is the best!
Now This is Real Talent..No Auto-Tune..Can play a musical instrument..
rj zander who gives a shit.
rj zander not like he needed it
He can play several instruments. A true talent, not to mention his incredible songwriting ability!
@rj zander LOL. I knew there was a secret to it. BTW, Cummings released a few songs from home during the COVID-19 self-isolation. You might find them on Facebook. Damn, 72 years old and can still sing and play well enough it's not patronizing to say he sounds good.
Writes his own songs.
I grew up with these guys....mr.cummings you my brother are the best!!!
what a voice....proud to be a Canadian
Damn what a voice!
This guy wrote and sang the stories of our growing up. Love 'em!
OUTSTANDING.
So beautiful
Still sounds great.
His voice still kicks ass.
WORLD CLASS VOCALS. Burton Cummings has been my ALL TIME FAVORITE vocalist for decades. And that has not changed! WHAT A VOICE!!! The unequaled, UNMISTAKEABLE Burton Cummings.
Great singer
What a voice and still has it. Such an artist and entertainer.
What a terrific vocalist and wonderful song writer.
There's no better singer in rock and roll history.
That was so f*cking good! 👏🏼👌🏼
All the real talent was in that era. The artistic compositions and melodic themes of that era though half a century ago are superior to anything on the radio today!
Wow. I get chills listening to him all by himself. What a great voice, great talent.
Burton is one cool dude
Intellectual and witty and funny and of course a great voice
Amazing song writer
What a singer song writer. We had such great artists like Burton
Yes
Lenny was brilliant , never Bachman, .... the two should never be mentioned in the same sentence... Cheers
This guy is pure talent...what a musical genius!
Burton is a f***ing genius. Used to see him solo at the Garden State Arts Center in New Jersey in the mid-70s. A brilliant talent.
What a talent .
I wish he played some Sour Suite. a beautiful tune. everyone should find that one and have a listen... gives me goosebumps
One of the finest musicians to ever take the stage!
One of the most recognizable and the most beautiful voice that rock and roll was to know!! And for him to get up there at 7 o'clock in the morning, knowing he is not at his best, and him to share his songs with us, says a lot about this man! Wow Burton Cummings, thank you for the memories! 🎹🎹🎹
Dudes pitch accuracy is unreal.
I don't have the ear to judge but I remember a friend once say he had the best pitch in music.
Karen Carpenter had great pitch.
@@chipgaasche4933
The Best.....Perfect Pitch with Karen.
@@chipgaasche4933 Karen had great clear pure tone
Vocalists who can write a terrific song are rare now.
one of the great singer/songwriters of all-time!! thank you Burton!!
Talented man. One of the best rock voices I have ever heard. Under-rated band, the GW.
Great Guest!
This interview is fantastic. Burton is a masterful songwriter and Howard is a great interviewer. The best. 90s Stern was the best. Classic.
Burton Cummings is a LEGEND. Still has the pipes after all these year. NEEDS to be in the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME !!!!!
One of the greatest rock vocalists in history. With all their awesome hits, The Guess Who should easily be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A very excellent writer of songs, and sings them excellently as well.
Stand Tall is an incredible song!
I'm so thankful that as a kid this is the kind of music I got to listen to.
Burton ... Legend
Induct The Guess Who, Jim Croce and Dan Fogelberg into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!
Never will a shame but rapper Notorious Big did. Guess he sold more albums. ? Go figure!
Dan Fogelberg??
Dann right! RIP Jim and Dan. We'll never forget you.
One of my vocal heroes. OMG, I know exactly the fear of "the high note". That makes him so human now. What a voice, though. What a voice. One of the best rock voices ever. He can be syrupy or gravelly, and both honestly.
Thank you for your sincere compliment, love and support I’m nothing without you as my fan ❤️. And I appreciate your comments on my UA-cam channel
Excellent musician ....these songs are etched in history.
What a voice, so clear and amazing....no auto tune.
He is one of the most under-rated talents of that era. Great song writer, singer and incredible piano player. He didn't do my favorite song by him, "I'm Scared". I love the piano in that song.
Many artists have said that Burton Cummings has one of the best voices in Rock and Roll.
Agreed and a huge ego
One and only and Break it to them gently.
The Voice.
LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best Rock Voices ever. Love these guys. And it's a travesty that the Guess Who isn't in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Zeppelin Fan - The RR HOF is bullshit. It's pay to play. Look up it's true story. There is no dishonor not being in it.
One of the greatest voices.
This is so f'n cool! What a musician
I absolutely love the sound of his voice (always have) such an amazing vocalist!!
