Produce Like A Pro is a website that features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.
If you could record in any studio, where would you record?
Where you gonna be around 5pm?
Probably Joe Barresi's spot. Just the crazy amount of gear to play with would be awesome
Any Studio with a Focusrite console..
somewhere where they have a drum set and the rates aren't extreme ;p
Blackbird
For me, in my 51 years, some of the best, best music I’ve ever heard, has come by way of this dusty house.
It’s really a huge wide variety of Art That dave and his family have worked with and recorded. It’s a dream come true of music he’s help create🎉
I’m 51 and couldn’t agree more. What great sounds have been generated there.
thank you! i agree! 😊
Finally a longer video at rancho
Thank you!
Having watched several run through clips from this studio, this is by far the best one and it’s like Dave and Manny are long lost cousins…
Yes man my first chat on the cell w him was like a long lost buddy! Thrilled you enjoyed and appreciate you sharing this 🎉
Quick note on the cool looking bass., I had to fill in as guitar tech for Eagles when they landed in nz years back as their tech had an emergcny at home, their tour manager said, " can you take a look at the bass , some tech in Australia tried to fix it when a bolt dropped and its not right " I opened the case saw a bolt hald in the bottom E tuner peg and as I lossned the tuner down the whole tuner key exploded on my bench, the cog and bolt flew off, for some reason the tech at their previous show in Australia had replaced a missing bolt from an American bass made in the 50s with a modern metric bolt that was not only not fitting but was steering the metal on the thread and jammed in at a weird angle, I knew this was a special specific imperial size so I excused myself with the TM and went on a mission to find the proper small bolt/screw. after 2 hardware stores I ended at a specialist boat engineering workshop and this old engineer came to help me and explained America went through 2 or 3 version of thread sizes and this year was a very rare thread and modern imperial is not the correct fit, he said he thought he had something and went rummaging out the back and came back with these really old brown oiley paper bags and after 3 attempts found a bad that hald a couple of the exact bolts needed, I bought all the bolts he had repaired the bass told Brian he had spares in the case . the bass is incredible , sounds incredible and will continue to play all original with a replaced 1950s bolt in the low E tuner bought in NZ from a small smokey marine chandlery the last few bolts in a brown paper bag that has sat on a shelf for 60 + years haha .
Wowza! Thanks for sharing what a story ;)
@@mannysmiclocker same show the TM handed me a torn Blownout Talkbox pedal thing Jessie used on his mic stand and said " any idea where we can get a replacement?" I new a speaker reconer so I threw it in a taxi with a message and before soundcheck I had the pedal back to the venue and a very amazed and thankful TM ,, haha it was one of those days where things work out and you don't go home kicking yourself . Love your videos Manny!
@@Johnnybananass-_Thanks for the kind words 🎉
hey there! i remember all this!! thank you. if i’m not mistaken you hooked me up with a hot cakes pedal too! hoping all is fantastic. i just had troy kingi here for an amazing session. all the best, dc❤
@@davidcatching that’s right , I got one direct from paul Crowther. Yeah I just saw Troy was there . Hope your well sir !
Rancho is my absolute favorite studio to record at... I've done two records there. I am the friend that gave Dave the mini EVH amp! I always believe in giving a gift to the studio gods. The reason I love the studio has little to do with the gear and has everything to do with Dave, the atmosphere, and the literal magic that flows through that place. The studio always seems to give you exactly what you need. There is a natural never ending flow state that posses your body when you record there. It makes work effortless. John who is sort of a resident engineer and tech there is a brilliant, talented, and fantastic human being as well. I'm currently deep into mixing the last album I produced there by an artist named Jordan Gruver. We used Danny Frankel for drums who is incredibly talented. First two singles already dropped.
I agree all the above about Dave and his wonderful sound Kitchen um! We all gotta come back for more! PLAP Rocks!
Wow! Thank you for stopping by. Please share your music!
always fantastic to have a serious talent such as yourself work here grant. can’t wait to hear jordan’s final album. much love
I have that Peavey Musician too, but have never been able to find the footswitch, its a 5 pin MIDI style connector. Called Peavey directly and they didn't even have a schematic for it, or seem to know what I was talking about.
Great piece of gear! Thanks ever so much!
I picked up a Peavey audition after this episode lol
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dave Catching.
Best dude ever in the whole desert/QOTSA universe.
I can second that 100%
He is too cool!
Manny, that was absolutely great. You and Dave have awesome energy together. That studio looked like a museum. Really good job and good seeing you brutha!
Thank you and yes I was buzzing even on ride out of Joshua Tree. Thrilled PLAP shared this tour big props Warren❤
thank you! mannys the coolest
The tunes speak for themselves, that place is a Mecca for me. I love that he talks as passionately about really desirable hall of fame gear as thrift shop finds and reasonably priced new stuff, it gives you some hope that the magic might be in one’s taste and philosophy of making records. Killer vid Manny, thanks for sharing.
Ha! I remember when Mark Fuqua was putting the splintered V back together again. His shop was on Sunset. He used to work at Black Market in SF too.
Marks a true Artist!
@@mannysmiclocker Yes, he is. I own three Motor Ave guitars including the 12-string. BTW great interview. Your knowledge is deep and your heart is big. Keep it up, brother.
Thank you and really appreciate you sharing . I’m a normal joe not any kind of UA-cam Cat but I believe in the things I love so thrilled it came across. Thanks Warren for having me here PLAP styles 🎉
mark is so cool! can’t believe he fixed my v and it’s better than ever. jealous you have some of his beauties.. one day i’ll be lucky enough to join the motor ave gang!! best, dc

I clicked on this so fast, thank you UA-cam algorithm.
Ha me too lol
Thanks for watching! Our pleasure!
These are my favorite kind of studios, full of stuff everywhere, messy and viby , much more inspiring to me than a "neat" studio.
Nice one.
Ditto 100%! Thanks for sharing 🎉
@@mannysmiclocker Thank you Manny!
The Rancho! Waldo's! I've never been there but I'm a fan of metric tonnes of the music that's come out of that place over the years. Thanks for the tour, Mr. Manny! :)
Our pleasure!
That little Frenchie is living the dream!! Great video, maybe my beard will be as Wizard-like as Dave's someday!
Absolutely is!
chunk thanks you! 😂
Wow, this is such a wonderful gift! I've been fascinated with this studio for nearly 20 years and I've never been able to find a video that provided such an in-depth tour. I'm speechless! Thank you, thank you very much! This studio is truly magical!
Amen🎉
It's lives up to the hype, I've done two albums there... My youtube channel is barren right now, but later this year I will be kicking it off with a bunch of behind the scenes videos that document the recording of an album I produced there last September by and artist named Jordan Gruver.
"This is Dave Catching. Not sayin' goodnight, just sayin'". Love that guy! And, Manny rules! Thanks y'all
Awe man Thrilled you enjoyed! Cheers to all the above 🎉
Thanks so much!
@@mannysmiclocker This is probably not the place to discuss this. Fuck it, don't care, have you talked to Juan? He's one of my heroes. (And this honkey in Vermont studied that bass recording technique)
thank you chris❤
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Dave a few times over the years at EODM shows. He is such a great guy. Thanks for sharing guys! Makes me want to get my 1968 Gretsch Nashville out and play around with it.
Same here all the above! He’s a living treasure of sounds and great vibes!
Amazing. Last year my wife recorded her album there. Dave is an awesome dude. I am still kicking myself that I didn’t go :D
Wow! You can always share her album with us
Yes please share and now she needs to do LP 2 and you go Ha❤😊
@@Producelikeapro I will! She’s just about to release the first single. Alain Johannes produced!!
Thank you! Dave is one of the coolest guys ever!!!!!
Daves the best!
David is a genius! We love you David!
Mutual ;)
This is my kind of studio. A lot of studios I see are way too sterile and uncluttered. And their gear seems to be a checklist of "industry standard" gear. I feel more comfortable in a place that's a little bit funky, that has cheap gear mixed in with expensive stuff, and where the decor and layout are home-y. I'm in the process of making my own home studio look a bit like this (though with obviously 1/10th the gear).
Agreed it’s my kinda spot too! Thanks for sharing🎉😊
Man! I’m loving these episodes!!
Thanks so much
You are appreciated tuning in my friend🎉
David is the Dynamo of the Desert! The Genius of Joshua Tree... shall we go on!!

Thanks Manny & Dave! Always wanted to visit Rancho de la Luna.
11:40 the old Ukelin on the left in that shot! Nice! Only the 2nd place on earth I've ever seen one (the other being one of my old studios....I've since donated it to a pal who always did super cool stuff with it)
Nice! Thanks for sharing.

One of,if not the vibey-est studios in the universe, along with the spirit and guidance of Dave Catching, you’d have to try to make something not exceptional in this sacred and vital environment.
Much love to you,Manny and Davey Joe!!!
Thanks G! You available to come into my studio this eve and play some bass Ha serious 🎉
@@mannysmiclocker lemme know!
i love you greg! you’re overdue for a visit
In my dream just 2 nights ago I was hanging out with Josh Homme and Boots Electric in some library looking studio. We were all talkin about how much fun it is to record. Boots then told me they thought I was cool enough to hang with them for real and so he revealed that they made a decision to invite me to their personal studio. I was like “Hell yeah!” Then Josh asked me if I wanted a drink. I said sure. He asked me if I like tequila. I said oh yeah. He said its his favorite. Then he says “oh…I have something you will like.” I dont think it was tequila because it was kinda gray and cloudy…when I took a sip of it we were instantly teleported to the desert where we were all on motorcycles like some Mad Max caravan driving ferociously creating a big dust cloud on route to Rancho De La Luna. 😂
Amazing! Haha. Thanks for sharing
That was no dream, man. I was there…
Nice😂
❤
Thanks for sharing ! So many old great stuffs in that studio ! Ths is refreshing to see that some people are still using real amps. Thanks Manny and Dave !

Always Quality content ..this is like a dream come true to see this
Man Hagstrom is such a sleeper guitar. They made some really cool unique guitars. I bought a newer one Fantoman and put a Bigsby on it and had my tech do his fret magic and that thing plays like a $4k Gibson and is my favorite guitar. All for the lower price of like $12hun practically. This Lundgren pickups….whoo
I’ve got a 8 string bass and it’s a keeper! I use almost every record I make. Thanks for sharing Nik.
