Eagles of Death Metal's Dave Catching Rancho de la Luna Studio TOUR!

- Join Eagles of Death Metal's Dave Catching on private tour of his Rancho de la Luna recording studio where crafts hit records for Iggy Pop, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, and more!
Catching eschews the controlled environment of the traditional recording studio, choosing instead to roll the dice on a collection of esoteric and unusual gear -- a practice amp on the front porch, guitars crammed up against the walls, headstocks pointing every which way; a bureau drawer stuffed full of EarthQuaker Devices -- and letting his ears lead the way.
"This thing always stays," he says, stepping on his Dispatch Master. "I think this is my favorite of all. Which is saying a lot, because I love all the EarthQuaker stuff, but this one never leaves the pedalboard."
"Show Us Your Junk!" is a scavenger hunt through the recording studios, tour vans, and storage units of our favorite musicians - a celebration of the nick-knacks, impulse purchases, artifacts, odds-and-ends, doodads, thingamajigs, whatchamacallits, and other ephemera piled up in corners, cluttering the shelves of rock and roll.

Please keep this series going forever. It's dope as fuck.
Thanks! Will do! Watch this space...
This place should be a protected historical landmark.
I bet there is plenty of local rock fans that would do stuff to somebody trying to tear it down or something. Like motorcycle gang members kind of rock n roll fans i mean :)
Dave catching here, not saying goodnight. Just saying.
Every. Damn. Time.
hahahahahaha. HAAAAA
huge qotsa fan, I loved this! especially when he opened the drawer and said "this is one of every earthquaker devices pedal" literally creamed
Thanks for watching! If ever someone needed one of everything, it's Dave Catching. Coolest dude ever.
That was just sick! I had the honor of playing a show at SOMA in San Diego back in the day with Kyuss and Ween. My band had no food and Josh and the rest of the guys were super cool and told us to chow down on their spread. lol. If I keep by EQD pedals like I have been, my drawer will look like that dream drawer. Rock on peeps!
Love Dave! First met him in 1987 in SF with Texorcist! Thankfully, he finally bought a house for respite from "people from Germany" cuz Dave is super laid back/kind BUT, at Rancho he is WORKING or, in downtime at a communal lunch or a porch session. I was in JT and, was looking for Hutch and, went to Rancho. Dave invited my gf and I for supper and, evening recording...then PJ Harvey walked by...and, I bailed...I never get "stagefright" and, have played for decades...I lost it...lol
Never did find Hutch (old Vancouver friend)
If i had to pick between Rancho de La Luna or Disney World or the Pyramids from Egypt or something like that I'd chose Rancho de La Luna every single time.
Most def. Rancho de la Luna is basically like Disney World and the pyramids combined!
I’ve been! I went right up to the no trespassing sign and stopped there but could see the sign
Pretty sure that disembodied head was purchased by Josh or Anthony Bourdain on his No Reservations show.
Dave, Bormann here. Love this I can remember coming over to your pad above the Coconut Teaser and you telling me you were going to by a motel in Joshua Tree and turn it into a studio! Man alive, if'n ya didn't do just that! Then in 92, Suzi & I were in Joshua Tree at an Internet cafe/bar and you offered to sell it to me "lock stock & Belgian ales" for 5 grand. You rock! Saw you and Eagles playing some psych fest thing like 4 years Ago! Tremendous man! You inspire me still after what 35 years! Thank you!
Love footage of Rancho de la Luna, thanks for sharing! Seems like the most laid back, amazing atmosphere to record in
Once I manage to get myself noticed as an artist I want to record there, I love how ragged it all is.
Another fantastic episode, I need myself a new device
Dave catching is a bloody legend...
I love watching videos like this!
7:27 it’s like Josh just knew Dave was trying to cover it up 😂
God I love these vids!!!!
Sweet! Loved watching this. Little bit of heaven in the desert.
it's a magical place. thanks for watching!
Awesome video, guys! Please keep doing this!
Thanks for watching! There's more where that came from.
please do some more of this series its so good
There's more on the way! Thanks for watching!
Magic place!
It truly is. Thanks for watching!
Big Love!.
Here's hoping for Desert Sessions 11 and 12!
+1 x 1000!
I kinda hope they don’t. Josh isn’t as connected with the group of freaks and musical outliers that he once was. I’m afraid it would turn into collaborations with Mark Ronson and overtly pop-style artists and would have too much sheen. What made them so special was the experimental nature of the music.
This comment aged well ⚡️
But where are the propane accessories??
it's like I been tellin' ya, that boy ain't right
Got dang it Dave.
HELL YEAH HAGSTROM!
Royal Blood should record there
Pat MacDonald !
Well half of them did during Desert Sessions 11 & 12.
Always feels like it’s a place you don’t go to record what’s in your head….you go to find out what it’s spirit/ether is going to do what’s in your head….THEN you record it….
if you do a show us your junk with josh homme, the world will explode
DAVEY JOOOO!!!!!
Thanks for the cool fucking tour! I would never be that guy and show up uninvited so this is the closest I'll ever get. Music from this place has inspired and entertained me my entire adult life.
thanks for joining us!
Happy is Catching!
That baby painting is 100% Patton Oswalt as an infant.
I could've watched hours of this
In 2002,or was it 2001?
Dave got me and my girl into a sold out gig. First UK gig, QOTSA with Dave Grohl... The LA2... Backstage passes. Didn't have to do that. So, thank you!
This is adult Disneyland for me
Legit holding 2 red-Ryder BB-Guns in the intro 😁🤣😂
Do a josh homme show us your junk it would be so dope
Guitarvibes There’s been an attempt. They got nothin out of him.
Hello from Russia! It's one of my dreams, to have visit this place. I've using your Cloven Hoof and going buy more stuff. Goodluck
Hello from Akron, Ohio, USA! Thank you so much!!
Well dream on, because even at the beginning he more or less states, "we hate tourists." Unless of course you have lots of money, then um yeah, they like "tourists".
Jake Bond I think he doesn't hate tourists, he just hates morons. That's normal. It's his private property. Want to see - contact, pay and then you can have a tour. Or not. But if it works that way, that's pretty sweet in my opinion. And absolutely normal again.
I'm from Russia too btw if someone interested. And i believe no one interested. :)
Sweet dreams Mr Lanegan.
I fucking NEED those earthlings recordings
Im just gonna call out sick today and watch these.
we're not doctors, but we can provide a note, if necessary
in fact, we find C# to be the best doctor's note
i think i'm gonna call in sick, too. got a bad case of the jokes this afternoon.
Awesome video. What's the song at the beginning?
It's called "Cloven Hoof Stomp" by Lisa Bella Donna and it was recorded for this video. Thanks for watching!
Can someone tell me what's the song starting around 3:35? That solo at 4:28 sounds so nice. thnx
I'm sorry, It's in the credits..

Dont lie you know you see that old vt-40 at 4:23
I gotta know what the opening song is?!?
Anyone notice the baby portrait watching the door looks like the baby from the Dinosaurs tv show?

This is great ..ohhhhhhhhhh to go to the rancho and write /record .....arghhhh.....itching big time here ffs..
Up til now I thought Rancho Del Luna was Josh Homme's residence.
what brand is their kit?
the drum kit? we have no idea.
70s Gretsch.
The love for gorilla amps
I bet this guy doesn't know Marie Kondo.
This dude has crap everywhere. Very cool.
I swear that baby is Patton Oswalt.
I have that shirt
Where did Dave buy that shirt...he looks tall and it is a BITCH to find western shirts with long enough sleeves.
Ask him, EQD! :D
I dunno where Dave got his shirt, but whenever I'm in Joshua Tree, I always check the Hoof & the Horn for sweet western shirts - www.hoofandthehorn.com/
Nice, thanks!
Bummer that site is just a logo :(
Kind of sad that people don't respect private property and just treat everything like a tourist landmark.
not saying goodnight.. just saying
Thank you for showing us some boxes ! 8 minutes that I won’t get back.
Something I don't like about this place.
Snails skinwalkers
