Today we have a BRAND NEW course for you - The Art Of Capturing A Live Performance with Manny Nieto!
We’ve all seen and admired the legendary studios, where our favourite engineers produced the classic records which have shaped our taste in music, and remain relevant even decades after their release.
These studios often boast 100 000s, if not millions of dollars in equipment, and provide engineers, producers, and sometimes even multiple assistants for a single recording session.
While this is fantastic and convenient for everyone involved, for most of us, it simply isn’t the way we record music.
Nowadays, the majority of producers are working out of their home-studios, using a small selection of gear they’ve accumulated over the years.
Can we still produce records that sound amazing, shape music history and stand the test of time?
- Absolutely!
That’s what The Art Of Capturing A Live Performance is all about.
Inside, professional producer Manny Nieto (Distortion Felix, The Breeders, Health, Los Lobos) teaches you how to master the challenge of being the engineer, guitarist, and lead singer of your band, all at once.
In this comprehensive guide, Manny teaches you how to create a massive, analogue sounding Rock anthem, without having to spend a fortune on gear!
And for a LIMITED TIME you can get the course for OVER 50% OFF!

i forget they are there, but turn them on (phantom) to get room /comparison.
i usually have more than enough signal to sculpt out,
not much low end & un-focused highs, just eq mids out to blend.
@@Arsonloke thanks for sharing!
@@acimbobby tell me please!
I mixed punk band, NOFX in 1992. The drummer handed me a microphone from a Radio Shack cassette recorder (the one with a little plastic stand). It had adapters to change the 1/8” to XLR, and he said, “This is for my snare…I like the way it distorts.”
... you mean Erik 'Smelly' Sandin? smh.
It's fun how one can suddenly come across a random comment on internets and kinda meet a person who casually mentions that he has probably mixed the "Sticking In My Eye" and hilarious "Straight Edge" cover that were the pillars of my personality as a 90s kid lol
Living my dreams
That's very cool! Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Gotta know... did you end up using it in the mix?
Coolest guy you've had on the channel, massively inspired by this dudes story and vibe and his gear is right up my street, really grateful for this, Mannys vibe really helps me believe in my weirdness, what a gent, thanks guys

Manny did a super sonic bang up job of recording our 2nd VAZ LP, back in 2001. The Frances Miranda analog days. Glad to see that he's still killing it, and growing...keeping an open mind.
Thanks and yes I loved that record! One of my best for sure.

great hat! i read about that china trip in tape op. amazing!
Absolutely amazing
Absolutely Great video! I grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s in Los Angeles County and back in the late 70s and early to mid 80s I did lighting for rock bands in most of the famous L.A. clubs and dozens of the smaller county clubs. Today I'm learning to play multiple instruments and collecting mics, amps, stands etc. because that's the direction I'm headed now a days. Manny is super cool and very informative. Earned my sub today ya did! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing Robert and super cool life experiencing all the above ,)
COOL thanks ,you have so many great guest great stories and information
Love Manny. He was so supportive with my drumming career in LA back in the day! Johnny too. Great interview! Sick!
Manny is the best! Huge fan!
Awesome!! One of the best interviews I have seen so far on this channel. Creativity is the best way! I believe it is time to steer away from perfection digital recording. Jimi Hendrix didn't have it nor did James Guthrie in 1978 doing The Wall recording. Time for musicians & engineers/producers to learn their craft again instead of digital equipment fixing their recordings and live performances. Much Appreciation for your outstanding channel!
Amen! Thanks for sharing PM ;)
Manny's passion for engineering and audio gear is inspirational!
Thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays!
What an amazing story and career!

Fascinating interview. Love the stories thanks
A Place To Bury Strangers is rad
It's weird,Being in several punk bands, tours, studios throughout so many yrs to the point of just wanting to just quit. Now I'm literally producing my own music in my mini studio and man I love it.It always starts with a drum beat then guitars, bass synths then vocals and ends up in the laptop or in my Tascam 424 as complete songs.
Great guy, very informative. Thanks folks. Good luck with the ribbons.
Thanks Keith! Yes, we love Manny!
Thank you and fingers crossed Ribbons ;)
Great, thanks!!!
You’re very welcome
Great interview! People feel relaxed around you Warren!
Same here. I was Manuel when I was young and my father was a singer for this band Impacto Tropical out of Chicago. Everyone called him Manny and I took the name in Jr High school. For so many years I was embarrassed of all the shitty cheap gear I used to multitrack bands and cutting my teeth, recording Death metal bands. First mic I bought was a Radioshack vocal mic I used on kick and Radioshack lipstick condenser I used on classical guitar. Started with a porta-studio, evolved to ADATS, then to Cool Edit, then to Pro Tools. What a ride it's been.
Wow what a great recording life story. Yes Manny we are Manny’s now Ha! Like in the video one my my favs mics now present is a radio shack Omni. Take care and keep up the good work proudly and loudly
@@mannysmiclocker been at it for 30 years now, also doing local live sound in the bars/venues. Slowly accumulated a good spaceman backpack (Pelican cases) of gear myself in that time. I've been staying put in Illinois with my family over the years but I love seeing how successful others have become traveling the world doing what they loved, even though the cash doesn't really match the effort sometimes. But the experience is the reward, right? "Do what you love, and the money will follow" right, or make you incredibly miserable. Haha Thank you for the response Manny. Means a lot.
@@AsmoG13 Pelicans save me and I have Like 5-6 all different sizes studio moving to just keeping mics safe. Good luck all the above ;)

Agreed 100%!
Thank you for the kind words!
You know how to gauge the passion of a producer? Calculate Warren's Words Spoken per min. he ask a lot of questions and talk cause you can see the passion for everything about production. The more passionate Warrans guest is the less he needs to talk cause the passion is for productio, not to hear him self talk, so anyone who can keep the conversation going, Warran will let them lead the conversation!
This is a testimony to how great one can be with wanting to do what you love, but Manny made it happen, too cool. I'm a big fan.
