My main take away from all your videos is you are one of few people that can save modern heavy music. The riffs and breakdowns you cook up just for UA-cam content are so good. Praying that new Structures is coming soon 🙏🏼
haha I do appreciate that as I don't do anything half in. I always make my stuff as sick as possible without it being too sick that i regret not using it for Structures. I think we write much better music together, the 3 of us But a lot of these techniques are things we do when writing and I figure it could help others. Thanks for watching!
You’ve got an amazing producer’s ear, sick combo between on point playing, amazing production and just really killer riffs and arrangements. Total package, your channel is underrated!
Thank you so much for checking it out and commenting! That helps it get to other people. And thank you! I've been recording and writing for almost 20 years now so I'm glad the effort shows haha
Thanks for checking it out Ricky! They often don't perform as well as review / instrument videos but I find them to be actually useful and evergreen so I'm happy to make the lesson based videos, even if they get less plays. The fact its helping some people is enough for me to continue with them
Nails is Top notch. To the point where this shirt is extremely faded but I still wear it. Had no idea they had an album coming out this year! Can't wait. Thanks for watching
Man this is great shit. Super well produced tutorial, all good ideas, and you've got me to go listen to your band now. Thanks for all the effort here dawg, very cool stuff
Yessss bro. It's all about momentum and energy. I love building things up and using automation to mute tracks right before everything comes in. Great vid.
Absolutely! I didn’t do the automation muting but basically did the same thing. Love buildups almost more than the breakdown sometimes. Thanks for watching!
The old school hat/China really did it for me, but I’d do that in the first half that leads into the “syncopated toms” example for the second half of the build
I was digging both the "songwriter's buildup" as well as the "death core/death metal buildup". Both were tasteful as hell but kick ass at the same time. Well done.
Excellent video Brendon! Crazy the differences between the build ups. My favourites were Build Up 3: Closed Hats, and the Build Up 5: Trap-Style Production.
This tutorial series you've been doing is chock full of so many great topics and ideas. As someone who is personally guilty of a LOT of #5/production buildups this gives some inspiration to diversify 🤘
Thank you so much! Yeah I truly mean it when I say that I learn more making these videos than I would before hand. Glad it helped you and me too lmao There’s always so many options
@nunofmpires yeah they don’t usually perform as well as other videos but I find they’re much more helpful so I still make them haha. Appreciate you watching it
My favorite breakdown of all time is built up by a solo. Not a core genre or djent/thall. But the breakdown in Domination by Pantera is my all-time favorite breakdown.
I'm definitely gonna put some of these to use. My personal go to is some kind of lofi part leading into the breakdown, but I definitely overuse it in my song writing. Thanks so much for the killer content dude, I've been learning so much from you.
That means a lot! I put a lot of effort into the videos so I’m pumped to hear they’re helping others out! It’s hard not to use the go to sections when we’re so used to using them haha
@michaelgordon8491 I have thought about it. I thought about doing them as live streams. If I have enough interest in people wanting live streams I may do them
This video inspired me to write for the first time in a short while... but now that I've gone back and listened to my work, I realize I accidentally ripped off Psycho Hours 😂😅 it's given me the itch, though! Can't wait to try again tomorrow and write something without unintentionally plagiarizing. Great video!
Man you should name the series MCDTDC or something if you're gonna continue doing tips and whatnots for those genres (Metalcore, Djent, Thall, Deathcore yk yk) Great tutorial overall, well done, as usual!
That’s a great idea, but it’s hard for people to find it if I start making acronyms. If I spell them out or say them fully it’s easier to see when you search for it but otherwise great idea! And thanks so much! If you have any other video topics you’d like covered in a video like this lmk!
@@BrendonKPadjasek I'd definitely appreciate covering Mick Gordon's approach to djenty metal... I've been trying to find stuff about it but to no avail 😭 Perhaps you could put the individual words in the #tags section of the description?
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘That riff makes me feel like I could tear down a building with my bare hands!! Also: I listen to too much Unearth to *not* go with the HH/China on 3s...
Hahahaha I wouldn’t suggest trying it. Thank you so much! It’s crazy how much people don’t appreciate unearth for what they’ve contributed to the genre. Was a sick band
Only time will tell haha. It unfortunately takes way more time compared to writing an instrumental song, programming drums and putting it on youtube Thanks for checking it out
You know, it's not only about the buildup, it's more about creating unique song structures (pun intended). I would acctually like to identify and serialize some parts and give them a meaning or a title or identify properties like technique, dynamic property, timbre property, drumming property, is it the same melody or a variation, time signature, tuplet type, absence or presence of pauses, and even different transtion types between riffs etc., And forcing myself to change some aspect so that I have distinctive things different between my songs even as simple as changing a synth preset. For example I have written one successful buildup into a breakdown with a temporary change from 1:45 ua-cam.com/video/_87kDxLCy3M/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
That is unfortunately the hardest part of writing songs. It's both encouraging and scary haha. Thanks for checking this out. I'll give it a spin later. Thanks
Hahaha thank you! I have thought about it but I don’t know what else to do different from my normal videos. I also thought about doing UA-cam memberships which I guess is the same kind of thing? What would you prefer between Patreon/ UA-cam membership and what kind of videos would you want to see on there that are different from these ones?
Thanks for the response. I would prefer Patreon. I don't know exactly , same content but longer and more in depth. From midi drums to mixing and songwriting. Everything you do is great and eye opening.@@BrendonKPadjasek
Andrew McEnaney is one of the most underrated drummers, you guys are basically doing stuff on guitar and drums that people are doing right now.😂 Also it would be nice to make a little bit more complex video about frequency and equalizer. Which frequency is for what and how to deal with it and to fix it or make it better. This is something that a lot of people struggle with, included me🤣🤣 ❤
I agree. He definitely has a specific style that he's figured out. Very unique. And thanks for checking it out. For frequencies and eq which instrument do you mean specifically?
@@BrendonKPadjasek He definitely has a unique style....EQ and Freq for guitar and bass, but maybe it would be nice to create a mini series with this subject.🤣
@alexvukovic7814 I do have a video on Eqing guitar and I just put out a full mix video on Friday if you’d like to check that out. Lots of little tips in there
@@BrendonKPadjasek Awesome! I always find it strange how I could learn something insane like an Invent Animate riff in a couple days but as soon as I try to write my own stuff I just don't know what to do

Haha I feel that as well 100% lol
I'm a massive for the Drum'n'bass build ups for SURE. Shit was so solid.
Thank you for checking it out. Also a huge fan of that one as well
One of the best metal music production channels on the Tubes! Thank you for your great content!

Loving the tutorials for song writing/mixing! Plus the awesome Bass VI content. The Death Metal buildup was my favorite!
