WRITE METALCORE Song in 1 HOUR? CHALLENGE

  • I attempt to write a melodic metalcore instrumental song, Similar to Glassjaw / Snapcase in 1 hour on a 7 string guitar. Using GGD Invasion Drums, STL Tonality Will Putney and Josh Middleton for guitar all in Ableton 11 Live. Music can take a long time to write, especially metal, deathcore and djent music given it's technical side, but this is a great way to write efficiently.
    I find this technique works great for writing songs quickly, as by the end of the episode I have 75% of a song laid out. This song, especially when finished, reminds me of the early 2000s metalcore that I grew up listening to, but with modern production. Listen to the song for free in the link down below. Thanks for watching!
    I'm Brendon Padjasek of the band Structures from Toronto, Canada and welcome to my channel based on modern metal, djent, and deathcore music, production, mixing and song writing.

    Genuinely glad to see Ableton being used by other heavy bands. Such a secret weapon that most people miss because they pass it off as "oh thats for edm, im good" lol
    Curious as to if you have ever used any asspact of Ableton in a Live setting? We've replaced almost our entire live rig with Ableton at this point and it comes in super clutch.

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  7 місяців тому

      Hell yeah. After trying Ableton I literally won’t go back to writing in any other DAW. It’s too quick and easy to experiment with sounds and get ideas down.
      I’ve used it live when Musical Directing artists I’ve played with, and Jon (Northlane) uses it to run the live show with his synth patches and extra tracks.

  • @SquatyDog
    @SquatyDog 2 місяці тому +1

    Man I love your content.
    This may be a silly question but how do you record these? Is it a special part about your DAW that lets your record your audio the whole time even when you’re not recording your guitar tracks?
    I use protools and as far as I’m aware on that, I can’t have a mic and guitar input recording permanently while laying down, and re recording guitar takes without stopping all tracks recording at once
    I know that’s confusing so no worries if my question doesn’t make sense.
    Cheers

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  2 місяці тому

      Hmmm that might be the way I’m recording from OBS. If you see the audio moving in Ableton, then I’m recording, if you hear the audio and guitar without seeing the recording than it’s likely just OBS and then I add the amp to the signal in Resolve when I’m editing the video
      Thank you so much!

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much for the kind words. I’ve definitely thought about it, I just don’t know what I could offer more in a Patreon or Discord than what I provide on UA-cam. I guess once I monetize on UA-cam there will be more opportunities
      Ahaha thank you! I have this hoodie from our 2013 tour hahaha. I love it. Jon is one of the best song writers in the world. Definitely in the heavy genre. What did you think?

    • @immymortal
      @immymortal Рік тому

      @@BrendonKPadjasek Monetizing on UA-cam is a great start for sure! What I think might also be beneficial is extending to a monthly Patreon $5, $10, $15/$20 a month tiers for instance. Where the base gives you all the updates before it hits general public and a Discord server access, the mid-tier gives you access to votes/polls for what to see next and third tier might be old demos or material you've worked on in the past with a private channel for those supporters etc.
      Just an idea of course! Not like I'm biased in any way having created the Northlane one with a couple online friends and managing it for the band haha
      Obsidian is peak Northlane in my opinion. It's just got everything. Nasty riffs, amazing electronic elements throughout, love the heaviness and softness juxtaposed. Plus a few throwbacks to having Node elements, Mesmer elements as well as the evolution to Alien (even though I think this record is heavier lyric wise, angry-marcus vocal wise)

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  Рік тому +1

      That’s a very good point. I guess my concern is that I don’t do UA-cam stuff full time so I’d have to make a serious effort to supply the Patreon with stuff that you don’t get on UA-cam. And sometimes I can’t put out a UA-cam video every week haha

    • @immymortal
      @immymortal Рік тому

      @@BrendonKPadjasek Very fair points! Every band/person's patreon varies for sure. Some are constantly active, others pop in every so often while the supporters get to enjoy the special perks
      I for one, would love to be able to support your channel cause I've loved what you've done in Structures, in Northlane and even solo stuff. Plus it was super cool meeting you during the Alien VIP!
