I’d like to point out that I battled through and now use the Blender navigation and have done for some time… well a long time! 😀 I suggest anyone watching this does the same. It doesn’t take long to get used to… promise! 😀
Not all heroes wear capes. Being using Cinema 4D for almost seven years, understandably the navigation in Blender was driving me crazy. Thank you for this.
If anyone got used to using the 1, 2, and 3 keys + left mouse button for pan, dolly and rotate (respectively) from Cinema 4D, that's also possible and easy to set up.
One thing I don't get is I never used alt + mouse scroll for zoom or pan... I use "1+left click" for panning and "2 + left click" for zoom in and out and scrolling the wheel back and forth is also zoom.
Thanks so much! I was able to get it to work with version 3.1.2. I was so frustrated earlier due to the Blender nav controls. It's not just getting used to a new system that I didn't like, but I found it painful to my wrist to orbit repeatedly using the middle mouse button so I really needed this. Alt + mouse buttons for orbit/pan/zoom is just so elegant and natural to me.
Anyone coming new to Blender, be careful with changing the hotkeys. The Blender hotkey implementation is extremely powerful and well thought out, and if you tweak it to much out the gate, you might mess things up and regret it later. So i'd say just learn the Blender system, and only change the really basic stuff like navigation to suit what you're used to.
Great, getting used to a new style of navigation is like learning to walk again. Only thing that's missing is how to invert the axis when rotating around an object.
I'm sure blender users won't know that they are watching a vid of legend , I took ur c4d course MILG11 and it's amazing , it can make everyone master modeling , I hope u will upload new vids about modeling
Grea tutorial, helped me not want to abandon Blender just yet with 10 plus years of C4D experience... I just have an issue with Blender 2.91, when I change the Quad keybinding to middlemouse button, it breaks my Alt + Left click binding for view rotation... very strange definitely a bug I think
I'm having a similar problem doesn't break anything but it's simply not working, in the preference interface the bind is taking place but it's not reacting at all must be an issue with 2.91
@@alexbooth1159 Hi, (on the "Keymap Blender preferences") > Go to: "3D View (Global)" (like the tutorial shows); > Then on the "Pan View" Click the "keymap button" and click with your left mouse button (you should see now a "Left mouse" text); > Then click on the tree arrow to expand and you should see 6 buttons align to the right; > Select the last button on the right and input the "1" from the keyboard. Do the same for: "Zoom View" and "Rotate View" but of course, change the numbers to "2" and "3". And Finally: There are other shortcuts that use the 1 2 3 from the text keyboard . You need to change them to avoid future issues (you can leave the shortcuts that have the numbers from the numpad, because they are viewed as different keys). Test it. And save the Keymap (like Toby shows in his tutorial). I hope this helps. Best regards

My God! Thank you! I was just starting to mess with Blender. Been using C4D for 13 years.
Much appreciated. I've been using C4D since R6 so you can imagine how navigating in Blender has been giving me a rash.
That's what I wanted! Modeling in Cinema 4d is just not my thing so I tried to learn it in Blender but the navigation killed me. You are a true hiro
All hail the great Toby Pitman, for he has brought sanity to this uncanny piece of software!

how?
Yeah, really helpful. How have they not made more intuitive presets yet after decades of progress?
One thing I don't get is I never used alt + mouse scroll for zoom or pan... I use "1+left click" for panning and "2 + left click" for zoom in and out and scrolling the wheel back and forth is also zoom.
did you find a way to put those 1 or 2 as "modifiers" with left click? like shift or ctrl are an option?
@@hudibaba I used 1+left click in c4d

Thanks a lot, I was so upset with blender navigation.
I'm happy that i found this video of you tha great MILG11 instructor ♥️

This is all I needed!
Search Menu (F3) -> (Shift + C)

Thanks man! btw your voice reminds me Tom Ellis as Lucifer 😆
Great! Thank you! This is so natural now!
Also, in navigation "panel -> zoom" there is option "Zoom to the mouse position"
And "Orbit & Pan -> Auto" Depth
