"Pneuma" from Tool's "Fear Inoculum" album (2019).
Wow, this was really quite difficult. That rhythm in the intro/verses is so fucked up. Like it does not make any sense at all until you've played it a million times. So.. only one song left which is Invincible. I'm gonna take my sweet time with that one since I'll have to figure out a lot of things for it. The effects during the bass solo, the rhythm, etc.
Anyway, apart from the main riff, Pneuma is actually pretty easy if you don't count memorizing all the variations in the song. I just can't believe that there's only 1 song left now..
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning: D-A-D-G
Artist: Tool
Bassist: Justin Chancellor
Album: Fear Inoculum (2019)
Song: PNEUMA
Bass: Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash
I'm over here trying to replicate the delay w an extra strum 😂😂😭
I do that too lol.
Hey what i do with the guitar. Sounds the same, kinda...
It’s how I play it too man lmao
Same here, same here.
Yes here too :)
4:25 that bassline simple but mindblowing
3:18
Less is more
@@the.living.man. in alot of cases ye just look at the bassline for h.
Sounds like schisms spiritual successor, amazing 🌀
Schism is so over rated
@@tastycookiechip YES! I'm glad somebody else sees it! It's a reasonably good song, but I find it to be their least interesting one.
This is nothing like schism lol
@@tastycookiechip "Your opinion is different than mine, it must be over rated"
thats exactly what I said...And both words fit into the same universe Schism/Pneuma
God this bass line is beautiful, Thank you for this video
No problem!
Justin Chancellor... What can I say? The man knows how to bring heart-rending beauty out of the simplest of patterns.
Thanks, Leo. Casual bassists like myself owe you a lot for the fast turnaround on this album. Keep it up, mate.
Drop D forever!
Justin is a freaking genius
Those weird time changes will make a simple riff hard to follow... 🤷🏽♂️🤪
The thing that helped me to follow along with the main riff is noticing the pattern with the notes that hit twice in the sequence, between each measure.
df fax its not even hard if you dont look at the time signatures
What Ashley said. You're a bassist man, FEEL the groove!
@@StiTchEvidence Ive found that its much easier to play Tool bass riffs by feeling it rather then trying to count. I seriously can't count a riff that goes from 6/8 to 11/16 to 4/6 to back to whatever. I'm like what happened to 5? So i just feel it, plus with the delay you got too.
Less is always more with Tool. Unless you're Danny. Dude kept time even when my old Tool CDs used to skip..
Danny & Justin made me have a whole new respect for how Bass & Drums work off & compliment each other.
What I love about tool is how simple rhythmic layers are used to create one symbiotic sound. Its prog for sure, but its not just about playing 300 notes per second.
3:18 sounds so eerie, almost trance inducing.
3:00 Man, that is some cool guitar/bass interplay
...imagined interplay?
Tool is the reason i have 2 basses. A 5 string that i use for everything from my band to practicing (we play in c standard) and a 4 string for drop d. All my favorite basses play in drop d
So the 5-string and the Tool bass :D
@@LeoBassCovers2 you already know my man. I cant exist without my tool bass, btw, i love your videos. They really are helping get the hang of tools complexity. They have been my favorite band sine 2005
Justin actually made me have mad respect for bassists lol
I came to your vid as a drummer, this song has turned our world upside down in terms of counting the odd meters, there's simply so many variations on counting it, but you guys, bass players are truelly our best friends in the world, you have figured it out. thank you. Not that it makes playing it any simpler..we got some insane polyrhythmic stuff to contend with in the 4\4 section..ohh boy...
I like how drummers and bassists make up the rhythm section while they're typically at polar opposites of each other. Drummers have to be very steady and somewhat skilled to keep it all in motion, but they also have to learn about patterns, time signatures, polyrhythms, etc. Bassist can just mess around, not learn any theory and just play a groove in time and it matches like it was supposed to be basically. Cause I don't believe that Justin knows a lot of music theory. He already confirmed that he's just plays what comes to mind. But yeah, this song is nuts in terms of all of that..
What I love about Pneuma it still sounds like a song in the album 10000 days
Insane. Mindblowing. Confusing. All words used in the same sentence as 'TOOL' but yet none of them do justice...
Ha! Nice- I’m about to post mine. Just wrapping recording now. 😊
Can't wait to hear that!
That bass line is nicer than I thought. Thank you. You play beautifully.
Awesome job! Can’t wait for Invincible

Bro these are so awesome! Can't wait to spend the rest of my life trying to learn them! Your work is much appreciated, you're an amazing player!! Thank you!
No problem and thank you!!
Amazing stuff, thanks so much for this. Wicked playing, and a great looking/sounding bass too :)
Thank you :)
I swear these songs of Tool's give me such temptation to below to Drop D. Stop tempting me with all of these covers, Leo Haha! Awesome work man
Thanks mate :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 You are very welcome my friend
Don't stop at D! I've tuned my bass to C Standard and that open C with some distortion is so satisfying to hear! Drop D can be quite interesting too though
@@fenderjazzface999 Ahh I hear ye there my man, it's more or so I just don't want to harm my strings in any way possible lol. I want to be conservative and safe about it is all
I've been on bass since Nov. Things I've come to understand. Just keeping the strings at tension wears on them. Methods of playing. QUALITY. Also, just play the damn thing, that's what its for, smash on it at times, but take care of her😉.#ing a Ibanez SDGR, 24fret(awesome intermediate bass, lots of built in adjustments), Ernie Ball med gauge
This channel is just incredible. Your amazing.
Thank you :)
This is awesome ✊🏾
Leo. gracias por compartir, por tu esfuerzo y voluntad, es inspirador
Super tight and clean, great job. Absolutely sick bassline
Thank you very much!
Favorite song on tha album
The rate at which you are putting these covers online is unreal, keep it up!!!
Dankje!
Dude! your fucking nailing all these Tool songs! Awesome work man appreciate what you do!
Thank you for every single one of these vids man, I feel like an ass to even request a song but for the love of god “invincible” pleaseeeee
Yo thanks man this is great how you highlighted the thing so it’s like real simple to figure out great editing
Glad you liked it!
Awesome as usual man!! I was waiting for this song!
Thank you!
Your an absolute legend. I do not know what I’d do without you! Thanks so much, I really appreciate your work
Thank you so much :)
You bloody nailed it! Thank you! Now I can learn it well :)
Thank you!
I’m a drummer, but this bassline is just amazing
Are you for real ?! OMFG, you are amazing 👏🏻
Een van m'n favoriete tracks van Tool. Man wat speel jij toch goed! 🤘
Danny Carey brought me to TOOL and Maynard brought me to PUSCIFER and now my wife won't let me listen to music in the car😂
So awesome! I was so confused by your notation till I realized the quarter note rests in your 7/4 bars should have dotted quarters, not quarter note rests. Great job!!
Amazing content !!!! Amazing covers !!!! Great Job !
Thanks a lot!
Well done!
Awesome job. Tablature is great but watching thru the play is also just as effective. Thank you for that.
Glad it's helpful! :)
Ah man, ¡This Is AWESOME!
Now all we need is Invincible. Lets hear it 🤘
You’re the man
For whatever reason the last breakdown of the song is heavier than the previous ones. It is so powerful and makes my eyes water every time
Beautiful cover.
Thank you :)
Love this song.
Love the Vic Firth DANNY CAM, too.
Great job. Will surely help me improve.
Thanks :)
great playing and amazing tone
Thank you :)
Man, that flanger bit is so sick.
Amazing songwriting, my God.
I love this so much

Super clean bro 💪🏼

Awesome bro, Justin is definitely my favorite bass player. Great videos.

Brilliant! I have to learn this! I tried playing along on my bass but man! There is so many things going on :) Awesome work.
Thanks a lot!! I'll put out a tabbed bass cover of this one soon.
@@LeoBassCovers2 sweeeeet!
OMG i want to learn bass after watching tool covers! Great work man
Thank you :)
You should!
Just subscribed! New to the bass but loving it. Thanks for helping!
No problem. Thanks for the sub!
I'm also thinking of taking up the bass because of the super cool sounds Tool is kicking out. This looks intimidating, but... baby steps. If I could do this one day, that would be the ultimate!
@@PongGod baby steps for sure. Too many people including me at first want to be a pro right off rip and never go anywhere past noodling. But if u commit to steps ur good.
So good bro
Talent son! Well done!
Thanks a lot!
You got Justin DOWN bro. Awesome seeing this side of the song, and perfectly played. Great job. Im a fan.
Thanks a lot man!
GREAT cover 👏🏻
Thank you!
Awesome cover!
Thanks a lot!
Leo thanks I love your covers. Been playing bass for 3 months. I play short scale.
No problem! Quite brave to try this song with only 3 months of experience. Good mindset!
One day rest and back again with the best track of the album.. Why I have to be broke?? I desperately need pedals! You nailed it once again!
Thank you very much!
Great job!,!!!!
I’m kinda late in seeing these but I clicked faster than ever before seen no lie I am so happy you started with the bass playing again love you bro you amazin
Thanks :)
This was fun to follow along with! Great job! Thank you for posting! Been playing music for many years. Played bass for a looooong time but due to life had to take a break for a while. Been playing guitar for the last 25 years. Recently decided to buy a bass guitar again (o got an Ibanez talman 100 - great budget bass!) Just recently got it officially set up and restrung and adjusted and decided to tackle this song. So fun to play! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t realize it was delay lol I thought it was strummed that way 😂
Thank you! Yeah it's really fun to play, even without delay haha! That Ibanez bass looks lovely
LeoBassCovers yeah I rock my bass through my line 6 Hd500x on a decent amp model (flip top). Sounds beefy lol
Well done.
Complex tempo right thereee
thanx Pal.. Nice Job!
Good sound mix.
Thank you!
