    But Aron kyro said that u have to know ollie frontside180 backside180 pop shuv it front side pop shuv it heel flip and finally kick flip

    • @slowmomike
      @slowmomike  8 років тому +50

      +Eduardo Garcia nope that would be wrong, there is no order of learning tricks once you learn your ollies. All of those tricks are the same difficulty level. I leaned ollies, then kickflips, bs pop shoves, bs/fs 180s, fs pop shoves and heelflips in that order. Is that the true order of learning tricks? Nope, that is just what works for me. Any skater can learn a completely different order after ollies. I'm not a fan of "trick orders" because everyone learns differently.

    • @rameezmazhar4086
      @rameezmazhar4086 7 років тому +11

      slowmomike actually Aaron kyro means that when you learn those easier tricks you build up your board control better to the point where you can learn more difficult tricks at a faster rate because your board control is getting better by learning and mastering those tricks.The reason Aaron Kyro gives that order is because when you learn Ollie then you go for the kickflip instead of the front side 180 what happens is that the control of the board you have is different because the front side 180 does require board control but it doesn't require as much of it as the kickflip.That order helps in getting the basics down so the more difficult tricks basically become easier because you get better at manipulating the board and start to get more comfortable doing those motions.

    • @rameezmazhar4086
      @rameezmazhar4086 7 років тому +2

      slowmomike and the reason board control becomes important especially for the kickflip is that you need to be comfortable at doing the trick because no other basic trick is like it.You don't flick in that motion for an Ollie or any other basic trick.So when you build your board control you start to be able to control your feet during that motion better so instead of just kicking your feet you start to get comfortable at the flick because you got more comfortable on a skateboard by doing all those tricks so a small change like a flick rather then a drag becomes better and faster to implement.

    Thanks! I finally get it. My front foot constantly never landed on the board but I've got a tip for everyone with the same problem. Try your kickflip in front of (a clean) dumpster or something as high as your chest, put both hands on top of it and push yourself up so you've got more time to put your frontfoot back on the board. I practiced it and after 15 minutes I landed both feet consistantly and when I tried it flat I almost amediatly got it...

    When I attempt the kickfip the board flips halfway. How can I get the full rotation?

    • @slowmomike
      @slowmomike  10 років тому +9

      If flicking harder doesn't help you get full rotation, then it's 100% a technique problem. What you need to work on for good rotation is correct dragging and flicking out technique. All that stuff is explained at 1:27. Basically for proper dragging you should:
      1) Angle your foot so that when you slide up, only the *side* of your foot is in contact with the board
      2) Drag up to the heel-side edge of the nose of the board (where you flick your kickflips, this video has a visual if you need one; but it's pretty straightforward)
      3) When you drag up, have your feet *stay in contact* with the board throughout the entire drag. If you pick your front foot up and try to flick the board, you will get poor rotation. You need to drag entirely up the board.
      To properly flick the kickflip, simply flick *outwards*. Do NOT flick up and do NOT flick down. Flicking *outwards* really helps with rotation technique tremendously.
      Hope that helps.

    great video! i can already kickflip and your tips are spot on. i have one extra tip for the skaters landing one footed, try keep your line of gravity above the board and jump up off the ground! too many times have i seen skaters pop the kickflip but immediately lean the the side or back and plant one foot straight to the ground while the other foot waits for the board to spin. jump up! straight above the board!!!

    First attempt when I got off work and got on my board, I landed one. But then I landed one more in the next 40 or so attempts. I think part of it is doing them so often in a short period of time that I got tired and sloppy.
    Dragging the side of my foot instead of the bottom of my foot is definitely the key, and I'm glad your video is gotten me to pay attention to that.

    • @slowmomike
      @slowmomike  10 років тому

      Would you say that you are leaning weird when you come for the land? Make sure that you are over the board throughout the *whole entire* kickflip. If you start learning, you will slip out. So don't lean, make sure that your center of weight is right below you, not off to the side or anything when you come for the land.

    • @rameezmazhar4086
      @rameezmazhar4086 10 років тому

      yeah i am over the board when i do a kickflip

    • @slowmomike
      @slowmomike  10 років тому

      Yeah you can be over the board and leaning weird when you land. Leaning weird when you land is the reason for slip outs. Just make sure you stay over the board the whole time, have your center of weight stay between your feet at all times (or better yet, exactly under your torso) and you won't slip out.

    I like to have my right foot - my popping foot - much further on the board, almost all of my shoe is on the board - that helps me alot. When my foot is about the middle or so, i tend to "shoot" my board up and I have no control of it. This makes me land the kickflip everytime and if anyone of you are having problem with over-flipping, consider foot placement. Also when you flick your board, remember to flick it a little downwards instead of upwards.

And of course they love them too. Anyway keep up the good work, im sure im not the only one you've helped. Just make sure to always stress to tuck your legs in every video haha. one thing you forgot to mention was to delay the flick of the kickflip so you can get them higher. if you pop and flick right away, you'll rocket flip pretty low. if you drag along with the board in the kickflip direction and flick it with your ankle at the peak, it'll be higher. i've done this, it works

    Dude thank you so much, been nailing these since I watched your vids. Totally impressed with your knowledge of what goes right and wrong and your presentation on how to correct it, soo helpful.
    Just a thought though, if you are teaching people in person try not to convey annoyance about how and why people are getting it wrong. You may alienate them.
    In saying that once you start nailing the flip it is SOOOO easy to correct that foot. Hope that doesnt come across as a totally dickish comment cause your video totally got me nailing flips and I've been stuck for ages. Many many thanks dude.

      Appreciate the feedback man!
      As for that kickflip rant, it was just something I really needed to say because it was kind of an homage to my younger self. If my 13 year old self was here right now, that is what I would say to him. Based on my experience, you are one of the lucky ones who are able to correct that footing problem easily. I wasn't as fortunate, and many many other people aren't as well (based on experience and comments in this video). It took me so long to fix it because I did that bad motion over and over and over again, until it was practically burned into my head to plant my foot down and it really got me pissed. Fixing it was an incredible pain. That problem was one of the worst problems I faced and I didn't want other people to fall into that same hole. So I guess that's the reasoning behind that, haha. My apologies if what I said may have alienated you, that was definitely not the intention. My intention was "PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T DO THIS OR YOU'LL COME OUT LIKE ME AND IT WILL SUCK REALLY BAD".

    Hey dude a friend of mine learned ollie norths before kick/heelflips so that he could get used to taking his board off the board and placing back on. It realllly worked for him not sure if you agree or not but I thought I'd let you know in case you agree. Awesome videos!

    Hey I'm learning kickflip and I had your same problem yesterday but I solved this (even thought I'm not able to kickflip yet) what worked for me is to land only with my backfoot. Later I managed to land with both. But only 1/2 kickflip and not always working

    + Jesse Wong (I can't reply to you directly, check your youtube settings if you wish to have direct replies from me so that you can get notifications about it)
    The problem that you may be having is that you are not *tucking* your legs. You must must must *tuck* your legs after you have flicked the board. So pretty much, once the front foot is left the board, tuck both legs so that *both knees almost meet your chest*. That's how you would solve that.
