      Husky Ruski I find that this guy gives more detail and teaches better, but initiating the flip works for me on a wider deck because it flips it faster, it also helps with double flips because of the faster flip, but I'd definitely say that for learning to begin with the slower flip is better because it helps with learning to catch the board.

      It's actually the most important tip to take away from his video. He's definitely right that half a flip, but landing on the board already with two feet is 99% closer to landing a kick flip than landing with one foot on, but with almost inevitably creating a bad habit that needs to be unlearned later on. I've noticed I can already land with one foot, either front or back foot, but I am having incredible issues getting a front foot flick in such a way that I can remain above the board. The issue is, I can retract both my legs all I want, I'm not getting closer to landing it when my back foot is already on the ground by the time my front foot is dragging up the board. And the other way around, stepping of with my front foot almost guarantees I'm flicking down, which is pointless. Maybe it would work if I'd very deliberately land with only the back foot in like a 'single foot' landing and try to keep my front foot up past the nose or something. But I guess what I'm saying is that unlearning those bad habits is pretty difficult.

    • @PHeMoX

      The great part about this video is it aged amazingly well, contrary to the Braille SMS videos that were recorded with such a lighting that creates way too much of a silhouette effect, making it literally hard to see what's going on. The fact he has slow motion footage too makes it even better. In terms of 'other kickflip videos', this one from slowmomike is easily the best available. I'm not so sure the Braille videos are all that good anyway (mind you, the ones they sell, not the free more recent ones and the hundreds of 'skate support' videos that do have their value for the most part), because slowmomike is correct about how a half flip is way more useful and meaningful. Depending on how much of an ollie you do, you can definitely get more of a half flip going that will train your feet you stay above the board or come back around again.

      @@thekelsek6337 One way of getting rid of it is forgetting about the flick for a bit and just try to do more of an ollie with the front foot going _past_ the nose. In reality you're looking for a half flip rotation and staying above the board at all times. You might have to force yourself to jump nose-side a bit more like an ollie to get it. Also, make sure you don't pop the tail too early. And don't drag up past the nose too late either. Another thing to unlearn the bad one front foot landing is making sure your _back foot_ doesn't hit the ground before your front foot has done the proper flick! This means you can only ever flick the board when still going up during the jump. If one of both feet is already on the ground before the rotation of the board is done, you have failed the trick already. It is _true_ that there are ways you can 'mob flip' with almost flicking down and then retracting the front leg super fast to still land it with legs fully retracted and knees bend. But it won't work for kickflipping onto things or off things, nor will it result in a comfortable landing. I'm still unlearning bad front foot motions, so better make sure you get into good habits ASAP. ;)

      @@PHeMoX any more tips because i cant land a half kickflip. I can only land a half flip with my back foot and my front foot cant land on it.

    • @PHeMoX
      @PHeMoX 4 роки тому +2

      @@whydidiwastemytimeonthis4581 Yes, if your front foot can't land back on again, it is most likely due to the flick being done at the max height of your jump, instead of doing it a bit earlier so the board flips under you when your jump is at max height. The solution is crouching deeper in a fast motion right before you jump and don't pop with your back foot until you basically almost leave the tail due to the jump. This should result in your back foot toes doing the snappiest fastest pop possible. Then when you hear the pop, flick with your front foot. Try flicking through the nose, less so off the side of the board, but anywhere between the pocket and kickflip half of the nose should still work. Experiment with what feels best. The key is to also lean enough on the front foot to stay above the board and if you flick through the board (not up, not down, but forwards to the nose) your foot will end up slightly in front of the board, giving you plenty of time to get it back over the board. Also, land with knees bend and crouching position, having your legs extended makes it impossible to land a kickflip. Last but not least, record yourself, preferably in slow motion and compare to how it looks when other people do a kickflip in your preferred stance. edit: Two things I forgot; 1. you can't flick properly nor hard enough when you don't bend your ankle and 2. if you want to turn half flips into full flips, it generally requires harder flicking if you already land half flips with two feet. The confusing bit might be that you can do half flips with a very poor ankle bend flick, so make sure you don't develop a bad habit of not bending the front foot ankle.

    Two tips that helped me a lot:
    - Only back foot landing or only front foot landing: look to your front foot when you do the trick or look to your backfoot (depending if you land BF or FF). I don't know why but it works and adjust the whole thing. I guess it changes your balance.
    - Chicken foot (i.e. when one of your foot hit the ground before anything else): try do the kickflip holding on something. It really helped me a lot to get rid of this bad habit.

    I have been doing my kick flips for 2 months without landing my front foot, so it feels impossible to try to land it on the board, when i try and keep it above the board it doesnt flick, Im going to go try to do the half kickflips to see if that works because i really want to learn them soon

    First thing's first, have you seen my Ultimate trick tip video for kickflips? The Ultimate Trick Tip: Kickflip / Getting Kickflips Higher - How To Kickflip Check it all out and see what techniques you are not doing and try to incorporate them. As for getting your feet back on the board, you do this by *tucking* your legs into your body right after you flicked the board. Tuck your legs so that your knees almost meet your chest. So what happens is that you flick outwards, and by tucking your feet come up and back around. It is incredibly crucial to flick *outwards* when you flick off the side of the board for your kickflips, so remember to definitely do that. That really helps rotation problems. Let me know if this works or not.

      You just need to make sure that your body (upper body and lower body) do NOT twist during the kickflip. Keep your body straight at all times. A way to practice this is try to do 1/2 kickflip and land those *perfectly* straight. Once you feel comfortable with perfectly straight 1/2 kickflip, try the full kickflip. You should see some more success that way. Let me know how that goes for you.

    Anything in particular that you are having trouble with for the kickflip? What happens when you try 1/2 kickflips? Is one (or both) of your feet landing below the board?

    • @slowmomike
      @slowmomike  10 років тому

      Looks like that 1/2 kickflip has found your problem. You aren't tucking your legs after you flick the board. Check the first problem of the video, at 1:00. Basically, once you flick the board, *tuck* your legs so that both knees almost meet your chest. It's something you just have to do, it's like the golden rule of skating to tuck your legs. You must have your feet *higher* than the board at all times. If there's ever a time where your feet are lower than the board, that's instant failure. That's why you *never* see a skater with their feet lower than their board, unless they are doing underflips of course.

      encore parkour practise flicking more to the side of the board, you're having this problem right now because your flicking up om the nose of the board and not more on the side.

    • @slowmomike

    • @slowmomike
      @slowmomike  10 років тому +1

      You gotta tuck man, it's important that you do it. Once you flick out, *tuck* your legs so that *both knees* almost meet your chest; a bit like a cannonball. That's what you want to do so that your board ends up rotating beneath your feet. What could also help is to try out my 1/2 flip idea that I said in the video where you do 1/2 flips and land somewhere on top of the board with both feet; that will teach you and help you on proper tucking for kickflips.
