mike explains everything so seriously and detailed that it makes you embarrassed if you don't land the trick..
MrAmirtaha You dont land tricks by watching youtube vids...
actually it does he expalined it very well
Koala it's just a joke lmao
MrAmirtaha agree😭
this guy is possibly the only guy who fully truly understands and explains correctly frontside and backside, and motion reasoning,
Wow... You explain it even better than Aaron Kyro does.
Did you ever think people would still be learning from your videos years after you posted them? :)
I'm 37. Started last summer and I have been progressing pretty fast thanks to people like yourself.
So much thanks Mike!
Honestly, I truly appreciate you dedicating so much time and effort to show random strangers how to become better at skateboarding. Unlike other popular “pop and flick then you’re good bro” channels, the care and preparation you take for these tutorials is considerably higher and hasn’t gone unnoticed. Unfortunately, it seems you don’t upload anymore (judging by your bio intro, you’re in a gnarly field so congratulations) so wanted to extend a thank you kindly.
This trick tip helped me very much because once I got my Ollie down, I skipped right to flip tricks and totally forgot about Frontside and Backside 180s. I also enjoyed how much effort you put into "beginner trick" that is very plain and simple, your explanation was superb and incredibly detailed, the subtitles were great too. Awesome video Mike, looking forward to more videos in the future.
Dude ur a great youtuber this is wat trick tip vids should be
Same here man, haha
I always had problems with trick tips when I was learning how to skate, feels good to make something that I would've wanted when I was learning how to skate =]
I learned fs in two days and I could roll away. Thank you for the detailed video. I'm working on my backside and landed it a couple times already
That's awesome to hear man! :D
Congrats on all the progress!
I love the hair-length changing throughout the video haha
good video as always man, RP
6 years later and it’s the only guide video that works for me
And Braille skateboarding expects you to pay for this advise
Yeah I personally prefer to keep my content and trick tips "Open Source"
Free for everyone =]
I think it's a lot more beneficial to the skate scene
he still provides good advice in his skate supports. You don't really need to buy it when his skate supports show you how to do it anyways.
coolio3231 I have checked out his skate supports in the past out of curiosity, he has good advice definitely. However, the one trouble I have with them is that they don't really answer _everything_. And an unfortunate side-effect to that is him uploading vids like "kickflip skate support number 27" or some crazy number like that; where several of the videos have the same problem over and over. That's too crazy and overwhelming, and much of what he says is mentioned repeatedly. Other than that, solid advice, but just not organized well at all.
I have something like that in the works, but not in that format at all. Something that I'd love to have when I was learning.
skateboarding "lessons" should be free, thats like giving "punk rock lessons" , or something like that
Best 180s tutorial ever made on UA-cam
Dude you are awesome!!! Few days ago you helped me out with a ollie.. Now after 1 hour i learned this! Thanks to you
I've been practicing on my Ollie's and what you said helped a lot my board now of the ground in about 3 to 5 centimeters and normally my Ollie's will come high but i just couldn't land them with 2 feet thanks for your support!
Keep the good videos up, they're great!
Glad to hear man! What you wanna do is, for ollies, start off super small. Try to land really really small ollies, like barely get your back truck off the ground and feel comfortable with that. Now try to put a little more power into your pop, aim to get like an inch or two above the ground and try to land those comfortably. Keep going in that direction - add more and more power into your pop (get more and more height with your ollies) and land all of them perfectly before going on to higher ollies.
For example: After barely getting your back truck off the ground and landing those comfortably, try to get the board to go an inch or two off the ground and then land those nicely. Then go for maybe 3 inches and land those, then like, 5, 7... keep adding a little more height until you reach your 2 feet.
Of course the numbers I'm throwing here are arbitrary, it just helps get the point across.
It helped so much, like I can Ollie over 2 boards now!!
Wow dude! Congrats! :D That's awesome!
7 years later and still the best tutorial in my opinion:)
You are the best! Not tried what you said yet but you are the most detailed teacher I know atm :) thanks
I watched this before I went to sleep and the next day I went out to try it and did everything you said to do and got it FIRST TRY
omg thank you soo much, I only watched 4 minutes of this and I went out side and now I can land it every time!!
btw I subbed
That's awesome man! Congrats!
Thanks bro I was tired of not committing to fs 180’s and after this video I went outside and I committed to one
Dude I hope you channel gets more popular cos your tips help heaps!!!
*Casually gets a haircut in between video* (3:29-3:30) LOL all jokes aside, I'm glad that there is a UA-camr out there that actually goes in depth to explain a trick. Solid work keep it up man! ;)
I hate when I'm making a trick tip and haircuts come out of nowhere man, it's crazy
And thanks dude! I appreciate it!
Yes! I'm only 3 minutes in and this is already the best video you've done!
+ Dalton Ennis
My pleasure dude! Happy to help!
slowmomike thank you ♡
Thank you so much!! The frontside was amazing and I finally got it! The jump back is what got it for me. I was kinda jumping in the same spot... so thanks!
wow this video helped a lot, landed my first fs 180 today! My problem was that i was stopping when twisting and so i got like fs 90s. thank u so much man.
Dude your the best you made me learn the kickflip the best tip was try landing everytime, now I got them on lock thanks.
Thank you so much dude
I land the front side today after watching this video .
Thanks bro keep it up .
Btw i know u made this video a long time ago but still thanks.
incredibly elaborated dude! thank you!
Good work man. Extremely proficient and detailed trick tips. Keep it up!
thank you so much for this. I've been trying fs and bs 180 for a while and I saw your video and watched it. Now I land 9/10 fs and really close to bs 180s. I'm getting bs 170s instead. I love how your tutorials cover every single detail now I can do them perfect. Thanks
Hey mike!!! Thanks to you i finally landed my kickflip!!! And i did 5 kickflips in a row over a funbox in the same day:D
Thanks man, just started watching you but you are so helpful, you helped me loads
You were right, this is really long haha. But for real, you are one of my favorite skaters ever. I love your unique style and your insane tricks. Can't wait to see what your skating's like in the future :)
Thnx bro idk if u remember me u told me how to heel flip and im fairly good at landing them now , i thaught this is a pretty simple trik to learn so ima start practicing them u havebto best hot to vids thnx keep dooing them bro
yeah no problem man
good luck!
no other youtube video had this much information. Thanks mike!
Thanks man! I try my best!
bro you are the best because of you i am about to land my fs 180 i was having the motion with my arm wrong (too much horizontal i guess) i have watched tons of video (and not just free video) but your video is the best i will never thank you enough i was about to throw my board in the snow but you really helped me i just landed it once but most of the time is just that i dont do a complete rotation (between 50 and 160 degrees) or land it on my toe (and fall of the board) and sometime i overland it but tomorow i'm sure that i am going to land it but thank you and if you could help me with my last little problem (when i land on the toe is the more often) that would be cool
sorry if i do some mistake this is not my maternal laguage and i'm from quebec in canada and if one day i go in the usa i would like to meet you
Glad to hear the progress dude, that's awesome! :D
A lot of the time you find that the progress of trick can be just as thrilling as actually landing the trick. You are totally on a great track for getting it really soon. You'll get it man!
this realy helped right after I watched this I landed my first fs 180 on my first attempt
Wow, that's awesome man! Congrats! :D
This helped a lot with my frontside I can do I every time I didn't know to swing my arms
Awesome job at explaining what to do! Nice video Mike XD
a lot of effort in this video. Awesome.
When I do my frontside 180's, I push. What is mean is I push my back foot forward instead of doing a pop straight down. The push is pretty much what lets me do the 180. When I do the 180, I cannot get the board high because I don't really drag. When I do drag, I cannot get the full 180. I can only get like an 80-90. As you have seen, my ollies are pretty high. I practiced them even more so to they are a bit less than a foot high. When I do the 180, I always have sketchy landings. I land with my toes barely on the board and most of my weight on my heels. I will post a vid soon on my channel with my frontside 180. BTW, nice tutorial. Hard work pays off and this vid helped a lot of people.
Hello People I will reply to this comment when the video comes out.
Hello People The push you do seems fine to me, if you want to get them higher, yeah you wanna pop down more vertical. However, since you say that your 180s have sketchy landings, you may wanna sort out the sketchyness before you go for height (otherwise it's gonna make your life difficult). A quick little thing you can do to sort out the sketchyness is for fs 180s, set your back foot like an fs pop shove; for bs 180s, set your back foot like a bs pop shove. This is just in case your feet like to move during the 180. Another thing you can try to do is try 90 degree ones and try to land *perfectly*, then try landing 120 degrees ones, then 150 then the full 180. That's also a pretty good way to practice.
***** Thanks, I can land frontside 90s well. I think that I should rotate faster. Recently when I tried that, it worked pretty well. Now, I pop more vertically and turn my head more when trying the full 180. Earlier, my frontside 180's were just pivots that barely pop off the ground. Now,I can land with my toes, but not the whole foot, because the board flies forward very far. The other thing is when I land the 180's, I land on the nose of the board. I cannot land perfectly. I think that is because my normal ollies sometimes lands on the nose as well. The only other trick I know is the ollie. It seems harder to land on the nose and pivoting like everyone else says to do. I prefer just going straight to the 180's. This is a good trick to learn before the kick flip to develop more control.
Amazing video👍 really good explanation
Hey mike awesom trick tip! I have a question. How do you deal with wheelbase on your ollie tricks? I installed a few pig risers but I still get them occasionally. How should I land so that I can get less wheel bite?
Great explanation of a foundation trick
i love how u make ur vids man it seems like u enjjoy it and put a lot of work into it & i like that man i really do that's the same way i am
Thanks dude! I appreciate it!
Great videos dude I am going to subscribe. I really appreciate the detail
Thanks for the video! I'd love to see a troubleshooting video and/or a how to get 180s higher. I manage to get my fs and bs 180s most of the time, but I usually land my fs 180s leaning too far back (as in heelside and/or as towards the nose). And of course both my 180s are barely off the ground.
Also, my ollies are decent, I can ollie over a board.
Yeah I really should make a troubleshoot video, I really want to troubleshoot allllllll of my trick tips haha
For leaning weird on the land of either your fs/bs 180s, that's the cause of your weight _drifting_ when you do the trick. So what happens is you do the trick and you start to lean during the trick, causing you to land super awkward. What you want to do is keep your weight directly over your board, between your feet at *all times*. Never drift your weight when you pop! You should distribute your weight 100% like an ollie during the entire trick. You do that, you will _never_ have that awkward leaning on the land.
As for getting 180s higher, it's a very simple concept, however it's much easier said than done. All you need to do is pop the board down *vertically* and harder and remember to _drag up the board and level out the board_. Basically you get your your 180s high by doing basically the same motions for getting your ollies high. Pop hard, jump higher, tuck harder... *but most importantly:* make sure that your full technique is there for the trick you are doing! Popping hard and jumping higher using poor technique ends up in an automatically failed trick. So have your 180 technique rock-solid, then try popping a _little_ harder, jumping a _little_ higher and remembering to drag up the board and _level out_ the board. Land it. Then go for a _little_ higher jump and a _little_ harder tuck than what you have done previously, and land that. Gradually go up in height in that fashion.
Hope that helps!
Will do! Thanks for the reply.
sounds good man! good luck!
YOU'RE BACK!! :)))))
Mikes Back! Great video
I used to jump pretty far to the side when I would do my 180's (About a foot or two.) and it would really throw off my posture and board control. I feel like for most tricks I just need to try and come straight up to keep the board under me. Just wanted to state that in case anyone has the same problem that I did. 180's were like the hardest thing for me because I would over complicate them.
I'm going to try this. This is my problem
Haha! But i couldn't do it without the half kickflip tip u gave!!! Thanks alot Mike
+ Alex Chambers (I cannot reply to you directly)
Does your back foot slip off in the air or on the landing?

***** YOU SPEAK SPANISH ?
Nahhh I just know how to type "english to spanish translator" in google haha
+slowmomike lol smart
So it is: setup, Ollie, THEN bs/fs 180? Good info. My bs 180's are shitty and I keep thinking it's because, somewhat, the blind landing that make them flip flop.
I have a question,
Is landing sketchy one cause to not make you roll away?
Also if you lean forward(to your nose) when you land also cause you not roll away?
Thanks man this really helped me out a lot.
Glad to hear it!
Wow.. Braille and vls didn't help me, after this video i started landing my 180's... THANK YOU!
How can I do backside/frontside 180s without pivots? I want to get 360s but I keep pivoting on my front truck! It's frustrating and I am not sure how to fix this problem
+Slowmomike I can land backside and fronside 180's fakie with no problem, just need to get it consistent, but somehow when i try to do it regular while rolling i will either not land or land the trick but it rolls in a u-turn or the board just stops rolling and it does'nt count when i'm having a game of skate with my friends.
Mann i watched ur whole video , the best tutorial ever :D
Very very helpful. Thanks mate!
my pleasure man!
Hey mike is it ok if i post a vid of my kickflips and make it a vid response to ur kickflip tip vid so u could tell me what i did wrong?
w0w Thanks !! i really got it becuz of your tutorial. u are discussing it EVERY LITTLE DETAIL OF THE TRICK. THANKS. but i bailed on rolling 180 :(.
That's awesome to hear it's clicking for you man!
As for bs 180s, one thing you gotta remember is to not shift your weight as you do it. When you do bs 180s I know how easy it is for your weight to start shifting forwards. You gotta fight that and make sure that the board stays under you.
Thanks for the video dude. Very helpful
Excellent job!!!
I always get my front foot to land on the board but my back foot just stays on the ground. Any help?
Lane Lopez same :/ its been 5 years did you ever get em. maybe you could share some advice? thanks
Damn, you explain this stuff so well! I love your videos!
Glad you think so :D

haha
+ Aleksander Almbakk
That's awesome to hear dude! Congrats! :D
I are the best so much passion for scating and UA-cam wow 27 min wow
U not I sorry
Yeah I am pretty hardcore when it comes to trick tips. This was the result of all the frustration I had when I was learning how to skate using trick tips :P I've always wanted something like this when I was learning how to skate.
I cant skate much.. its winter. but i have a big garage. now i know the ollie. pop shuv and fs 180. but the backside is so hard. i can onlu make a half 180 bs
That's good that you are halfway there. What happens when you try to turn your body, say 120 degrees? Will the board follow? Try to land those and see what happens. When you land em, just jump off (because obviously the board will stop). Then try to do 150 degree ones, then the full 180 ones. Try building yourself up like that.
Thanks mike I feel better
Thanks u so mutch u helped so very well
Mike I did a skateboard secession yesterday and I bruised my toe or broke it and I was just working on my ollies has this happened to you is it normal
diggin this video, very thorough!
thanks man!
Will you ever make a frontside flip tutorial?
I'd really like to make tutorials on all the tricks I know
So yeah, I would love to!
But when I will do it, I'm not sure =/
You should do a frontside 360 trick tip
Pleas help me I can't fs 180
And when you do fs 180 Do you slide the broad ???
Thanks for the videos, it's helping a lot. Now, my only problem with this trick is I do the rotation but I can't roll away with it, any suggestions?
Are you getting the full 180 rotation? If not, work on that. If you are getting the full rotation, you are simply going fast enough. If you go fast, it's impossible to _not_ roll away (because you either roll away or bail the trick haha).
***** yeah it was speed, it's sloppy but practice will make it better
ahh yes, that would do it haha
Is it ok like to pop the board a bit like in a frontside motion? Like the popping process of the frontside shovit
Trippy Boii yes they're both front side tricks
When I frontside 180, I twist up fine but I land HORRIBLE. Normally, I land with just my toes and end up leaning back. Any tips?
@slowmomike Hey man, thanks for the great tutorial! I have ollies with nice height, but a problem with my frontside 180s; when i try to land them, i do turn 180 degrees and my front foot slides up the board, but my my back foot always lands on the ground. Lots of people tell me it's a problem with commitment, which i've taken to mind, but I was just curious if you had any other tips. Any reply would be greatly appreciated.
Did you get a haircut half way through this video?🤣legend
Please make one of these for backside 5050s
I'd love to, problem is that these tips take a super long time to do :P
I also already have a trick tip currently in the works, but I do keep requests like these in the back of my mind too
So I appreciate the feedback!
Yes! Just the tricks i needed!!!
i keep doing 90s instead of 180s
Check out 11:13 of this video
Pretty much the main problem I believe you are having is that you are not "fluid" when it comes with unwinding your arms, popping the board and following through with the 180. You shouldn't be stopping when you do these techniques, it should all be in one fluid motion. Do you believe you are doing that?
when i try doing all of it in a fluid motion i dont have the right timing
Well the timing should be *exactly* like an ollie, so make sure you are doing that properly. For turning it's all in the arms and forcing your feet to land 180. So pay close attention on that stuff. And if you aren't getting much success with that, I'd recommend trying to do like 110 degree ones and land them, then try 130 degree ones, and go all the way up until you reach 180 degrees.
When I do this I land with my front foot to far forward on the board and I land with my back foot on the tail so I have to much weight on the front of the skateboard causing the skateboard to shoot away from me and me falling hard. How do I land further back with my foot?
Lean back a little
+Brandon Skates thanks
Such a good dude
congrats on 13K
This is super helpful
thanks man this really helped me
@slowmomike whenever I do my backsides most of the time the board goes wild and I don't land but when I try to do it with a small Pop I land it but it's small plz help
excellent, i need this
one thing i see your really good at skating now i am not asking for a video because i am not even ready for this trick yet but can you do the kick flip underflip like mullen dose?? or any double trick like that?? if that's what you would call them
I haven't personally put a lot of effort in kickflip underflips, they do look cool; but I will try it out when I get the interest to haha. Maybe during the summer I can see if I can knock one out on video; can't make promises though :P
tru i mean i dnt want u to do a entire book about it just u landing one and make it slowmo to that should be easy ya think? that way u dnt gota do all the other shit u do with teaching ppl all i rlly wanna see is u bang one out and then in slowmo,,,, but ayyy i watch ur heel flip video over & over i jus can't seem to do a freaking heel flip to save my life lol,, i'm getting better at my kick flips i can land em here and there now,,,, but the weird thing is i can land more varial kick flips then i can reg kick flips idk y,,, maybe kuz i got my pop shuv down good??? & 1 mre thing sry to bug u but i cant get front side pop shuvs down to good either i mean i can land it here an there but its sloppy,,, like do i got to ump back when i do them??,, if ya could add me on a messenger or fb that be cool bro!!!
i wnt bug u everyday jus hit ya up to tlk or w,e but either way it's cool,,, ya seem like a cool dude man wish i lived closer to ya lol no homo i just dnt got any skater friends everyone around here is into dumb shit like drugs an that all they ever wanna do i mean weed isnt bad but the hard shit is but b safe buddy
Have you checked out my trick tip for those tricks at all? That should help you loads if you haven't already, lots of good stuff. And yeah I don't have many skating friends either, that's why you see that my channel is just videos of me and only me heh. As for facebook, I tend to keep to myself for that (although I really don't go on there often so you really aren't missing much).
yea i got heel flip kick flip down now mostly everything i just cant hang with the front side pop shuv idk y
When I do both frontside and backside 180s I land them but I don't roll fakie, instead I land the 180 and roll forward. But that's not normal so what am I doing wrong?I'm not rolling fakie when I land!
Well i don't know how but i have "safetyleg" that i have my backfoot on the ground but i pull it into my stomach, and that causes me not to land my

- inward heelflip
If you could help me with this that would be great cause it annoys me still not to land a tricks after skating almost a year..
Thanks for your support greetings from holland!
That's one weird trick list. Well anyways, first start out with getting your ollie down pat. What you should do is try really small ollies and get your feet to land back on the board. Go really small, so that you are very comfortable with it. Shouldn't be too difficult.
Then start putting more power into your pop and try to go a bit higher and land those. Gradually add more and more power into your pop, giving you more height, while being comfortable landing each ollie you do. Once you are good with landing ollies, that should translate to your other tricks. Just remember to tuck *both* legs when you do any trick, that's important.
A good way to practice landing is putting your board on the ground, take a few steps back, and do a nice jog and jump back on the board and roll away. That will give you some feeling of landing the trick.
It would also be a pretty good idea to check out my Ultimate Ollie Trick Tip if you haven't done so already.
this is a tip for people learning, but have your head facing your board's nose before you attempt the trick, that way it takes less effort to rotate.
