Hey Matt, the right rear seat is actually called a “boss” seat. When you wanna go to recline mode the front seat suppose to go all the way forward to create that space for you. (Obviously means no passenger in the front seat then). So it’ll only be working on the right rear seat (in this left wheel car)

You would think after years of reviewing international cars he would know this too. I knew what was wrong immediately and I have never even been in a ultra luxury car.
Normally this kind of function is only available on the right-rear seat, and it's interesting they've added it to the left-rear as well. Probably so the driver can have a rest at the back when the car is in park?
Was able to sample this car in China through Didi Luxe (sort of a Chinese equivalent of Uber Black). First of all, the top part of the back door doesn't have to be open, you have the option to only open the normal part of the door. Also, the front passenger seat is supposed to be all the way forward to give the back seat ample room to recline. I'm 178cm and it's plenty of space. But the car doesn't feel quite as luxurious when it's on the go despite good interior materials.
@@Neojhun I remember tesla didn't want jeremy clarkson to review one of their new cars back in 2017 or something because they were scared of the car not being good enough or something along those lines. im not sure about the full story but i do remember rolls royce didn't want to lend their cullinan suv to him because they are scared he was gonna say it was ugly
The back doors are hilarious. I hate Teslas but I can't deny the doors on the Model X are clever, while they take up a lot of height they don't extend as far out from the car as a conventional door when opening. It's like they've looked at that and thought, how can we do a similar thing but remove any of the benefits. So they've ended up with a top part that takes up loads of additional height when open, and a bottom part that takes up all of the width of a conventional car door when open. Genius...
Also imagine getting in or out while it's raining. Tesla's doors still provide cover fo the cabin, but these ones just create a wide open gap for the rain to flood the passengers and the cabin.
I find the model x falcon doors to be utterly pointless but I won't get into that. I think these doors do have one benefit over traditional doors and one over falcon doors. More headroom than normal doors given that there is enough room above the car and if there isn't they can still open without the top part opening so better than falcon doors in that regard as well
Ok, I will get into why the model x falcon doors are utterly pointless because I can't keep my mouth shut. Tesla advertises that they can open in very tight spaces but there is no point in parking in a very tight space if your front doors can't open because they are still "normal" doors and thus need the space anyway. And where will people normally sit in a car? In the front obviously. So the only reason to have this kind of doors on a car is that they "look cool" and then you still have to ignore all the downsides. Sorry

It's great to have Mat review these new cars from China. So many new manufacturers have popped up in China in the last couple of years and they have been experimenting with a lot of interesting things. They might still have problems, but the sooner they enter the global market, the earlier consumers will benefit from the diversity and competition. Kudos to Mat's team and to the HiPHY team! Hopefully we can see a mass production car review soon when the bugs are fixed, and the UX system updated to be more intuitive for European users. On the recline setup of the rear driver's side seat--my guess is it is designed for situations when the car is stationary (camping, waiting, or just a chat) and more than 1 person in the car want to stretch their legs, not for when the car is moving and someone's in the driver's seat. In China parents often need to wait a good while in the car to pick up their kids from school or tutoring so it is considered a plus. Some other comments suggest that this might be an engineering build for the right-hand side drive model--perhaps the HiPHY team could clarify:).
Regen braking "one pedal driving" is actually quite dangerous without implementation of braking indications from the vehicle. It relies on the awareness of other drivers in a time when so many are distracted with mobile phones and or have very little awareness of car separation at speed for safety.
A great example of when the love of gimmicks and complexity trumps functionality and reliability. Anyone getting this without a leasing agreement should see a shrink :)
Looks intriguing, but I suspect it will depreciate quite quickly from new. Maybe one for a few years down the line if the rear gullwing doors don’t break down all the time.

They are not fooling around with this car, the company is from the start already told everybody about their goal and market for their products, and lots of independent car reviewers already gave their reviews about this car and it is really expensive to build. Say this an awful lot on socials, UA-cam and online but I really wish there were more real world based car performance reviews. Of course they don’t or wouldn’t suit every category of car out there but for example someone thinking of swapping from say a BMW 530d to an M3 no reviewer on UA-cam really gives you that level of performance based review that it makes you think ‘right I’m off to the dealership’. 0-60s, demonstrated launch control, 1/4 miles, drag races with very similar cars, footage of a car on the road with seemingly nothing else there. They aren’t really what people want to see when deciding on a road car. They’re fun don’t get me wrong. I love to see drag races but everyone does them and they’re not really ‘real world’ demonstrations. In the real world you want to know if a car can comfortably overtake on a backroad with a 2-3 car backup in front of you, whether you can put your foot down on the motorway when John in his 58 reg A6 gets right up your arse and you don’t particularly want to have to shift across, just how much you can embarrass the local chavs in their Mountune Fiest ST when they try and go past you on a twisty road. Situations like those are what it would be really fun and good to see from a car review on UA-cam. Or even just drag race something like an RS3 against a bunch of cars you’re likely to see ‘road wankers’ driving that think they’re king eg 56 reg 320d, any Fiesta ST, 58 reg Range Rover Sports, Jaguar XF…… etc. if you’re thinking about splashing £60-70k+ on something, having a reviewer on UA-cam give you a bit of ‘feel good’ about higher performance road cars by demonstrating more real world scenarios it would go down a treat with a lot of folks on UA-cam imo.
sometimes i find its hard to understand some people in the comment section. these British people do not have their car manufacturing industry anymore, and they have not enough money spending on the late model expensive cars, but they love considering themselves as some Car Masters looking down almost every new car maker, what do they have and what are they thinking?

Pls do a comparison between The new bmw i7 xdrive 60 & the mercedes s class or Maybach s class ❤
Id love to see a range test with Hiphi X, KIA EV9, Tesla Model X, BMW IX, and LONG RANGE Ford Mustang Mach e. Id love the Vid.😄😄
I’d love to add the Q4 to the lineup.😊
@@9OClockRant Yeah, I actually forgot about the Q4. That would be interesting.
Not only is that screen too big, but the way it's positioned feels like you could easily end up damaging it, protudes out way too much
Can you imagine it pouring rain out and and getting in to the back of that thing, and waiting about 10 seconds for the doors to finally get closed?
The HiPhi X gonna cost $500.000.
Perfect rear doors for a rainy day... 😂
You can only open the side door instead of both
Agree. As long as the engine dont caught fire.
it's electric, there's no engine@@purwantiallan5089
the door can be opened without the top
Regen braking "one pedal driving" is actually quite dangerous without implementation of braking indications from the vehicle. It relies on the awareness of other drivers in a time when so many are distracted with mobile phones and or have very little awareness of car separation at speed for safety.
The brake lights do actually come on with the one pedal regen braking.
The rear door complication is OTT.
Its going to be a pain in the ass when you try to open these doors on a rainy day. 🤣
The rear passengers will have a complete nightmare
Love to see you test an MG4 Xpower
A great example of when the love of gimmicks and complexity trumps functionality and reliability. Anyone getting this without a leasing agreement should see a shrink :)
why? I mean evaluating general build quality aside, why would it be any different than what we're used to these days?
I think this is surprisingly good.
Looks intriguing, but I suspect it will depreciate quite quickly from new. Maybe one for a few years down the line if the rear gullwing doors don’t break down all the time.
Until the day it rains and you want to get into the back seat. That whole process of opening and closing of the doors seems too slow honestly
At 100K, this is like 100 times better than a Tesla !
In China’s bigger cities like Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai, this car is in the same price range as the Chinese variant of Uber Deluxe, Audi a6 and Mercedes E. Nice car indeed!
Still shit quality and absolutely nothing new in technology.Just regular China style “copy-paste”.
I like watching these car reviews about the electric cars thanks Matt
Live in Shanghai and even here I see these very rarely. Not a fan at all but at least its not as absurd as the company's other offerings.
i live in shanghai and see these often.
What are their other offerings?
@@monsieurb90 They got a smaller one like a station wagon/sportback type of sedan that is straight cringe.
@@minigiant8998 My condolences sir
@@DaGoook it's one of my pied à terres.
Nothing is better then a british accent guy reviewing cars 😂
What is with manufacturers making cars with no buttons and no door handles ..... Annoying as hell
Automatic electrically opening doors are a bad idea. Great review as always
I remember when carwow used to review fairly priced cars. Now it's just supercars/ lucxury and anything german
Wolls woyce
Those are some of the dumbest yet coolest doors on a car ever.
I don't think anyone at Rolls-Royce will be losing any sleep over this car.
They are they lost it in china this car sells well 😂
@@渡海-q2w the nio, xpeng, or atto 3 looks and feels good but this thing.... My goodness gracious....😖🤢 Those big ugly bezels on the speedo screen.... They copy pasted the whole iOS into the main screen....
Imagine using that rear door mechanism to get your kid in the car when it’s chucking it down with rain 😂
So basically if the main screen broke or has technical problems the car is useless...😂
Every electric car is useless when it has technical problems. Tesla still has a way to start without the screen (card for entry and car start, top panel has buttons to put it in drive.)
Aaand they are bankrupt.
Imagine, it's chucking it down with rain and your passengers want to get in the back, so the door opens and the rain pours in !
How do you get in the back if it's raining?!!?
Ok, it looks extremely cool, but you just cant use the rear seats when it’s raining I guess 😂 ?
Chinese cars are officially better than tesla
Those rear doors are great for a rainy day 👍
Those rear doors will be a nightmare when it rains...
7:50 thank god you live in a country where it NEVER RAINS… Rain and the back doors are a match made in heaven…🙉🙈🙊
I think that car is definitely worth about £50K. Not sure why it’s priced so high. It’s like a Chinese sweat-shop fashion brand thinking they can charge the same prices as Ralph Lauren or Armani.
You have absolutely no idea how much effort their engineers put all in to this car do you...?
If you watch the video of a Chinese version how much effort in making, designing, the expensive tech, the sophisticated software, lots of dead cows wrapped almost everything inside, the cost of the rear door alone, the time consuming to manufacture the entire car using lots of robots, aaaaand.... the humongous 97Kw/h insanely expensive battery.
They are not fooling around with this car, the company is from the start already told everybody about their goal and market for their products, and lots of independent car reviewers already gave their reviews about this car and it is really expensive to build.
One thing this car brand don't have as of now is the brand recognition..... yet
@@dwchen1 wow, touched a nerve there 🤣 China is famous for ripping off other countries tech and stealing the ideas of other very hard working engineers. It doesn’t respect intellectual property. It also doesn’t respect basic human rights. But it does produce cheap crap very well and we’ll see which this car is over the next few years and whether consumers are willing to pay £100K for this car 🤣🤣Get off your high horse spouting crap.
Exactly, who the hell would buy this instead of a Model X or an EQE or something like that? Obviously talking about markets where this is priced similarly like in Europe
@@cp4512 And America doesn't steal tech? I thought all the Trumptards claim that 5G causes cancer, but now all the U.S. carriers have been promoting their 5G technology for years. Stop stealing the Chinese 5G technology, make your own 6G 🤣🤣🤣
@@FGGiskard Lexus, Genesis, even Tesla Model S then X faces similar problems at first when released, people who get used to big 3 Germans don't recognize them as a luxury brands.
People always think why would I buy a Japanese or Korean so called luxury, or in a case of electric(new stuff without combustion V8 or V12) Tesla in their early days... but as days, months, and years goes by those brands prove their worth with their products and now people's perception towards them already changed and now they grew so big eating quite a significant chunk of those German market share.
Consumers will get more options and new players will come to try their luck.
Healthy competition is what people need.
Imagine getting into the back on a stormy day 😢
Right into the wet seat as it also exposed to side rain :)
Car designers - “check out these sick doors and roof that open up to give loads of space to enter!”
Owners - pressing the button while it’s down pouring and standing there waiting for it to open and then sitting in your car that opened the roof for no actual useful reason getting soaked waiting for it to close 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You haven't thought this through have you?
We're at the point where an 'unknown' Chinese manufacturer has a 2+ ton electric SUV doing 0-60 in 4.3 secs and we're disappointed.
😳
Not disappointed, salty
This car is more original than the EVs from MG and Lotus, the design solution looks solid.
Do a range test. Curious to see how “accurate” it would be 👀.
Today is my birthday 🎉❤😅No body knows how i have so many likes 😂
Put the tables behind the front seats, move the cooler to where the tables are now, make the seats moveable back and forth so you have more legroom or trunk room when needed. That would make it basically perfect. There you go, free tips mfs!
Expecting to see the Pink Panther and Inspector Clouseau get out of the rear there 😂😂
Cars 20 years ago: reliability, practicality, durability
Cars now: screens and led lights
Great Job MAT . you did a great explanation on the car.
sometimes i find its hard to understand some people in the comment section. these British people do not have their car manufacturing industry anymore, and they have not enough money spending on the late model expensive cars, but they love considering themselves as some Car Masters looking down almost every new car maker, what do they have and what are they thinking?
imagine 20 years ago if you said "my car only did 4,3 sec to 60"
I take that as an unfounded side swipe of him, to compare that chinese cardboard box to Tesla. My model 3 performance has now 80000 miles on it and there are no rattles at all. But we all know that Mat has great affinity to the tesla brand..
I was very surprised you didn't look under the hood or bonnet, as you say, for more cargo space once you realized there wasn't much in the trunk/boot.
The rear opening on the doors look very cool, but not practical when it’s raining as the passenger still sat in the rear seat will get wet while the other gets out
You don’t have to open the top doors. You can just open them like normal doors too.
The rear seat that Mat reclined is not meant to be a business class seat... It's always the one on the passenger side, because front passenger's seat needs to move forward... You can't do that with driver's seat...
Go right ahead and buy it Matt!
