Every time a Chinese product get reviewed, political comments invariably appeared. Geely is a listed company and not a state owned company. Most people outside China have no idea how the Chinese government is run and simply labelled it “authoritarian”. The Chinese government is a meritocracy where promotion within is based upon achieving goals set by seniors in improving people‘s lives and solving problems within whichever village, town etc that the junior government officer is in charge of….and not run by politicians giving empty promises to achieve popularity amongst voters at election times, and then go off to do their own things “with a public mandate” (or, most likely, not able to do anything at all in such a short term of office). Each polictical system has its own good and bad points, but there is no right and wrong. 65 million British chose their own political system: a constitutional monarchy with parlimentary democracy painfully developed over hundreds of years. No one is questioing their choice. So when 1.4 billion Chinese chose their own political system (also painfully developed but over thousands of years) which, as an undisputed fact (eg. National GDP), vastly improved their living standards over the last 40 years, people outside China should respect their choice! (And even better, just visit China first and see with their own eyes before raising those uninformed comments!)

Ever since my first real life encounter with high end chinese cars a few years ago, I realised they were on a completely different level compared to traditional western OEMs.
They use higher manufacturing technology and technology, such as integrated die casting machine, and use a more strengthened chassis structure to protect the battery. Moreover, the car companies that are ahead of the world have used high-strength steel of nuclear submarine level, even reaching a horrible 2000 MPa, which is due to the existence of the dominant steel industry in China.
This is very normal in China's first- and second-tier cities. The Chinese government has made a great determination to improve the infrastructure for electric vehicles. Now even in inland small and medium-sized cities, many high-voltage charging piles are installed in public places to charge electric vehicles.
Forget the nonsense from the western media. I was on a business trip in Dubai last month and I chatted with an Uber driver. He liked BYD and Zeekr very much. It's amazing that the Chinese car makers upped their game not only in the designs, quality and amount of EVs. But their English is improving a lot. Imagine Japanese carmakers with proficient and fluent English. And Chinese dropped their ego and learn English so that they can market their car faster and better to the world.

Didn't know top gear made a video on this car till now! I am a Chinese owner of Zeekr 001, the electric wagon from the same company, and it has been amazing. Although I think this video perhaps was sponsored, these cars are still worthwhile to take a look at. I owned some luxury cars in the past, like the Audi A7, Porsche 911, MB GLC and GLEs, and I am quite satisfied with what they offer here for a significant lower price than other brands. I am still a petrol person tho, I'd go electric for practical use, and gasoline for fun. I honestly would like to see these cars get reviewed by other youtubers so more people can see the potential they've got, and some manufacturers can actually get motivation from competition.
I am 100% saying this, and if you blindly hate me (for any reason) just because i SUPPORT Chinese brands (then it completely means there is something wrong with YOU.) All i can say is that if i had a luxury car option for a lifetime that i can wish for and own it. This is the brand, luxury and prestige that I want. I look at these BEAUTIFUL cars (Zeekr), and i already subscribe and sign up to wish for owning this (and really wish that i have these cars including a Rolls-Royce) in my lifetime.
There is no doubt at all that the quality of Chinese made cars are right up there. Perception however, means that depreciation will suffer for decades to come. They will need to maintain solid engineering and quality for that to change. Personally I have no problems whatsoever in buying the Zeekr 009 here in Malaysia over the Alphard/Vellfire stranglehold.

We visited Shanghai last month and were transported in one of these for a couple of days. As a car guy it totally blew me away. This level of detail/thought and the quality of materials is only found in the highest end european cars. For the price these are selling (our driver paid 55.000 euro for his car) it's just a no brainer. If these were to sell in the Netherlands for something close to that pricepoint or even 20K more, i think it would be a hit. We also experienced the lower budget offering from Chery, the Fulwin T9. That is a PHEV of comparable quality to eurpean bigger names but is less then half of the price of those competitors (16k euro). VW is rightly worried, and i'm not sure they are flexible enough to compete..Tariffs are a sign they cannot directly compete. China has such an enormous production potential it can flood any market. With products like this, it is not a bad thing.

Damn. I knew China was changing the perception it has had of being cheap, ripoff, poorly made, low quality, etc. But look at this. And yes, I agree. Safety first, comfort and usability second. Not some fashion statement that is useless, expensive, annoying.
Only your local Walmart goes to China and buy only the cheap, ripoff, poorly made, low quality sh!t and resell to you 10x money. Chinese culture has always valued exquisite and refined craftsmanship for thousands years.
That perception is created by yourselves... China is the producer of all goods in the world and they make goods (price and quality) according to the buyer's wishes... so if the buyer wants to make a lot of profit, they make cheap goods and of course they break easily... that's where the perception you mentioned comes from, it doesn't mean that China can't produce good goods.

Not only in China but in Asia in general, VIPs, Politicians and CEOs are chauffeured in luxury MPVs than luxury sedans.
MPVs has the road presence - Alphard, Vellfire, Lexus LM350 are the preferred choice, but Chinese MPVs are raising fast.

My question is- Is this coming to the U.K. !!! What an awesome thing
Mpvs don't sell well in the UK yet alone a Chinese mpv. The ignorant stereotypes and sinophobia towards the Chinese and Chinese tech is too infested in Britain.
this is the best presenter currently on top gear. the others are bland, to put it politely.
16:30 The fact that Lego model of a car looks exactly like a real thing is quite amazing actually! lmao
Loving having tom ford back great reviews
Quality and Durability is getting more and more better! Just think of the evolution of Chinese products over the decades, it's incredible
Wow, I’ve been a huge fan of wookie since fifth gear days when he was faffing about with johniewani smiff. Can I just say how astonishingly good a presenter he has become?!
With products like this, it is not a bad thing.
tom is just next level when presenting these kind of piece, what a way to present an eye opener
Zeekr❤ Geely Auto Group is the next Volks group.
yup ,new volks group of Asia ,even Malaysia National brand "Proton" are under Geely group now
Damn i need one.

1. Lower Taxes on uncomplete vs complete Goods
2. Latour Localization
3. Skills Transfer (A lot of Mechanics need to be Reskilled)
4. Price Freedom and Volatility, less floor space
Not just yet.
It has been confirmed by zeekr that it will have this vehicle here in Japan next year. I will consider purchasing it.
really? but I think the car they make is relatively chunky for Japanese market, except zeeker X
Trying to make himself feel better by saying "different tastes".
Truth we just get 💩 here in Europe, milking us with SUV or whatever boomer car fashion of yesteryear.
I mean he said the display unit was so fast and the Chinese like that. Wtf he's implying Europeans like slow displays? 🤣🤣
Who doesn't like fast display unit😂
I don't know about you guys, but here in Europe, especially in Italy where I come from, people (even young people) are fighting so hard against technology in cars, that I understand why he specified that the Chinese do... I own a Tesla and when I drive around, so many people tell me they would never buy a car with such a big screen, that they would never want to control the car from the screen and someone my age (28) even told me he will never buy a car with a rear camera!
Yeah, in the USA, we only like slow displays, e.g., the one in Lexus GX460. You touch it, before the response comes up, your next baby is born
Reckon it's the best looking Van there is. Definitely much much better looking than Vellfire. Well proportioned and elegant actually.
In Hong Kong, luxury 7-seaters (Lexus LM, Toyota Alphard and Welfire) sell like rocket! You can rarely find a Mercedes S class on Hong Kong roads nowadays.
And for good reason - these things are phenomenally comfortable
Wow that’s a great video but man the edit is just unbelievably good!
This is what we needed. No one knows what the Chinese buyer finds to be valuable. Spending time to give us a definitive answer is great. If luxury and tech innovations are their interests, that can spell nothing but good cars for us going forward.
im sure this would do well stateside , depending on price. its honestly only a matter of time before the US market adopts chinese vehicles
Americans would absolutely gobble up a monster mini-van… this is such an American car.
News flash for Euro car companies, Europeans love tech too. Slow systems that are only slow because you've skimped on processing power will not be appreciated.
Looks incredible imo

I saw the Zeekr X and the vehicle is thousands better than the Volvo EX40... this brand is not cheap but the quality is premium-level.
One thing Tom forgot to mention is price, top of range version bout £60000, a bargain!
Good video. This would sell like crazy in the US. Everything you said the Chinese think is cool applies here as well.
most chinese cars have very bad handling and steering feel. they are very very plush though and have really large backseat legroom and smartphone level tech, which I feel most western consumers don't value as much.
@@alexli5279 Geely bought Volvo and Lotus, I would think they have good suspension and handling compared to other Chinese makers.
Saw one of those in white back in 2023, a very stunning van in person ❤
Premium cars having low end CPU's and cheap touchscreens from the 2010's never ceases to amaze me, well done Zeekr for actually caring about everything.
I drive a Geely sedan car and I got the most basic from their lineup, literal taxi spec in China but the build, looks and ride comfort are way better than the same offerings from legacy brands in my country. Its just that US is pushing a lot of propaganda against China here so the market is still not wanting to go all out on chinese brands.
I’d buy one.
Nice to see China finally taking its own direction 👌🏼
We may not agree with their methods but their population certainly seems to be OK with it. It's remarkable how far China has come without being somebody else's vassal state.
You should try Li Auto Mega, that one is definitely from the future.
No, very very bad compared to others, Li Auto is a néfaste brand doing very very bad designed products, only the Li 9 was nice, before the Xpeng G9 arrived, but the inner doors are hawful, there are lot if bad choices, the software are not efficient, they do not evolute well as Xpeng Motors does, nor as Huawei does with its numerous brands... I do not remember which brand sell the Li Auto operating system but far than excellent! And it will be worse and worse as there are large material deficiencies! They are above 900V for the Li Mega and have worse results than 660V Xpeng Motors products (G6, X9) and take lot of risk to sell a very very quick charging method which is not cleverly limited based on what is scientifically possible, but based only on material limitation! The S5 chargers will destroy the battery or the whole vehicle as it may burn by over passing what the material was planned for! Xpeng Motors adapts continuously, they were copied or contributed to the Zeekr and Li Mega for some software improvements (Linux based as all computing systems in the world now, even the Huawei System is based on Linux!), like are Windows 10 and above and Mac OS 10 and above and iOS 10 and above... All use the same atoms, the same sciences, but differently! This is not to the consumer to manage any risk nor any deficiency! No constraint is acceptable, so it is fully illicit to not warranty secure freedom to all (even engineer) by making them all benefit of what already exists and make them work only to search accurately applied improvements! EJFJ Cumulative Cleverness and EJFJ Effective Collaboration are requested!
Luxurious 6 seater with a 500 mile+ range, from a car group with a lot of experience (Volvo, Polestar, Geely) I'm sold. Right now there is only Zeekr X and One in EU, any idea when this will come?
the armrest slide out, hiding the seat and hvac control is super slick.

I have to say, and I am not trying to offend anyone but we all know that brittain is the reason for china's worst tragedy with opium war, but from that era it also created really beautiful realities. Within it came friends, family, culture, and of course british infastructures which china today preserved beautyfully. I remember watching china's first color video footage and what struck me was just how brittain was integrated with chinese society on the eastern coast side of cities, than it showed the japanese planes in hundreds dropping bombs right on top of that packed integrated society and those beautiful british built buildings were crumbling down, and at that time chinese and british people was as one with only one goal, survival. It really touched me. Here we are today. We all completely forgot those early 1900's. British and chinese people was so integrated, lived together, dined together, and died together. Think about that.
Vellfire, alphard , and voxy are some of the most comfortable and exquisitely fine looking cars.
