It must have been heartbreaking for Radahn's surviving soldiers to see him going mad and constantly hear his howling, while they are not strong enough to put him out of his misery. It is also a brilliant idea that they advertise the battle against Radahn as a festival, so the participating heroes don't get their reputation tainted for teaming up against one enemy, and at the same time giving Radahn an honourable death.
I don't think warriors teaming up against Radahn will taint their reputation, this being was constantly refered to as hands down the strongest of the demigods

1:12 Now knowing the context of Morgott's character and background, this part hits a lot harder. Considering that it's clearly Godfrey's crown this is definitely him showing respect to his father, probably the only person who ever gave a damn about him, as well as implying that despite being the ruler of Leyndell he still doesn't see himself as a worthy lord.

@@AL-lz6px Note that the Black Knives answered to Marika and the Greater Will alone. They wouldn't have killed Godwyn just because Ranni told them to. It's likely that not only was Marika involved, Raani was acting under orders.
You can see that Malenia whispered something to Radahn before her final attack.
Bet she was saying "I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella." :D
Or "Let your flesh be consumed by Scarlett rot". Seems more appropriate because that's what literally happened next

1:12 I love this scene. It shows Morgott’s humility, self-hatred, and devotion to defending the Erdtree. It shows how he doesn’t believe he is worthy of bearing the crown of Leyndell, but will defend the Erdtree nonetheless despite his omen curse.
Morgott is such a cool character. Definitely deserved better.

Coming back to this after playing through the game, the cinematics are so much more impactful. The Lunar Princess as the narrator, seeing the Omen King lay down his crown, seeing Malenia and Raddahn’s fateful duel and the flower that created that hellhole in Caelid. There are still so many details we haven’t yet discovered from the game, we’ll probably come back to this trailer again in a month from now to see the differences.

No joke, I would KILL for a prequel game/movie/show that takes place during the Shattering. There’s be SO much to explore with that time frame.
Dark Souls 2 had parts where you went back in time to the war with the giants, FromSoft could do a similar thing through DLC.

Because it's a really cool and dramatically done fight that only serves for story. It doesn't matter what Radhan does, she was always intended to win so it would always end that way (not that this is bad in any way).

@@secretname2670 it's also possible that the heat of the battle actually made her incapable of holding back the rot, mind you this girl already lost many things to the rot and held it back by sheer grit, she literally wrestle with it every single day of her life AND managed to stalemate radahn with a sword alone. Even her health regeneration mechanic isn't said to be from incantation/rune/sorcery (in fact the rune is rotted and weakened your healing power if it's equipped), it's her innate spirit of resistance incarnate that fuels her through her fights. She literally pushed through the fight with sheer willpower and bloodlust, the sight of people getting hit by her blade allowed her to push through and carry on the battle. The stalemate means she cant retain her willpower as neither could meaningfully damage the other. As her willpower is exhausted she became even more desperate to attack Radahn (hence why you see her abandon all forms of defense, sacrificed her prosthetics, grab the blade and *push the blade* with her body's entire weight). At that point she is probably at her limit and the rot is no longer held back by her exhausted will.

If you call getting into coma a stalemate then i guess she stalemated herself. She has literally nothing behind her besides "goofy ah sexy gurl , willpower strenght sumfin - while red general is just as strong with his mind and stronger with body. LetMeSoloHer does right by killing the rot wench all day.
@@secretname2670 she is getting a coma after the rot is released and by that time radahn is done man. Before it was a draw, a stalemate, as the monument itself said. I dont really care what she is out of universe, the monument said so.
Edit: Radahn holding back the stars is good and all until you noticed his rune is fully functional, while hers is rotted and don't actually help her in a fight. She is also an amputee who lost three limbs and two eyes and remain a capable enough warrior that its acknowledged that she stalemate radahn. But sure, radahn is such a chad that he managed to getting stalemated by (or in your case "defeating") a fucking disabled while holding back the stars is such an accomplishment after all.
Love it how now that everyone has played the game, the trailer makes so much more sense.

Nobody saw who "The last king of Lyendell" is. I wonder how the soldiers would feel if they knew the hulking Omen that was carving trough the enemies in the front gate was their King.
You see, that last part is where Ranni fucked up. She didn't realize that, after dealing with multiple bosses with second phases where they do anime kickflips and fire sword beams, I would decide "FUCK THIS SHIT, EVERYTHING BURNS!".
Frenzied Flame ending is the only good ending because, for once, I get to be the broken jackass with overly long and wide attacks.

When Malenia unleased the Scarlet Rot against Radahn, it was Malenia's phase 2 transition music playing.
Ranni: on a night of wintery fog, the rune of death was stolen.

The lore and atmosphere is so good, because it is written like a real mythology. This is always a sign of a high quality work. It has solid foundations. That's the real deal.

There's so many details in this trailer that are so apparent after playing the game and understanding a lot of character plot-lines:
Ranni describing the Night of Black Knives with feigning herself having not been involved is because no one in the story actually knew she was the culprit. Canonically, Rogier discovers this after analyzing the Knife-print of one of the Black Knife assassins and determines Ranni carved the runes for the spell to apply the Rune of Death to the Black Knifes' blades. 0:31 - Most likely after the Black Knife Assassins began fleeing the Capital after having assassinated Godwyn.
I counted only 5 Black Knife assassins. Alecto is among them, and the other 4 are most likely the other ones we faced as boss fights (1 in Limgrave, 2 in Altus, and 1 in Liurnia). Meanwhile, Tiche was caught trying to flee the capital and we fight another one leading up to the Queen's Bedchamber that was likely cut down during the escape. There are 2 more in Ordina, totaling in 9--not including the assassins who attack Iji and Blaidd, but they could be the same ones as before since death would not have been re-established in the Lands Between by this point in the game canonically.
1:20 - Morgott laying down his crown and preparing to defend Leyndell. This is clearly after the Sovereign Alliance crumbled, and likely at the start of the second defense of Leyndell, where Margit steps in to defend the inner wall (siege being shown from 1:37).
2:37 - Malenia intentionally allowed her prosthesis to be broken so that she could use both ends of her blade. One to pierce Radahn (who is brought down to a knee), and the other to pierce her own heart--snapping the golden needle created by Miquella, and also to allow her blood to seep into Radahn's wound, infecting him with Scarlet Rot. The activation of the Scarlet Aeonia might have been beyond her control, as we know she needed to be carried back to the Haligtree after the battle. Radahn was disorientated from the Aeona and stumbled off into the Dunes where the player fights him.
Fun fact: The soldiers and knights that are raiding the capital belong to Stormveil and Godrick the Golden. We can see many wearing the Tree-and-Beast Surcoat and Godrick Knight set.

@@fullmetalavalanche Almost all of them got their own agendas to overturn the Golden Order. Only ones who are batshit insane cartoon villain evil are Godrick and Rykard. Even the edgy Lord of Blood got his own well constructed plan (it's just not going well).

@@deppudeppudeppu I would argue that Godrick is the most sympathetic character of all the sharbearers we fight. He was born runt of the litter and wasn't really anything special. He hid from fights among women and children when the war started. He took up grafting to make himself stronger because he KNOWS a bunch of folks will try and get his shard from him. He's a desperate man and wanted to do anything to have a chance of defending his shard. Even during the fight he doesn't even acknowledge you per se, he keeps going on about making his ancestors proud, capped off by the amazing voice work when he said "BEAR WITNESS!" to his ancestors. Even at the end, as he died, he tells us that "...And one day, we'll return together...To our home, bathed in rays of gold...". That's not to say, of course, that his grafting shit is justified but you can see why he did it.

It makes no sense. Ranni doesn’t meet you until later in the game. The first one you met is Melina and Varre if she doesn’t count
@@KhangNguyen-um4rg Actually not necessarily true. Renna (Ranni in disguise) meets you fairly early on to give you the spirit caller bell at the church of Marika outside of your starting location, so she does play a big role early on.

Would have been great as part of the intro. Somehow I thought the Npcs (Fia, Gideon etc.) were to be the bosses.
Kills the point. The intro is oil paintings because it’s supposed to convey the idea that this is a old story being retold to you. Having a cinematic exposition dump doesn’t really have the same effect beyond looking cool at least in my opinion.

I love how you can never understand shit from the stories of From Software games, and at the same time they are in my opinion the best at world building and lore
Idk, as far as stories go for these games I’m already on board with this ones overarching plot.
The only thing I’m lost on atm is why the death rune was stolen from the shattered ring. Which is okay obviously meant to be unknown as of now.
I’m assuming it’s our own people the “Tarnished” that did this or were framed perhaps due to us being exiled and hated by all.
Also, due to us, enemies and the two red head demigods locked in constant stalemate, Margit saying he’d essentially see us again - I’m guessing that’s all due to the death runes power granting the lands between “life” in its own screwed up way.
In dark souls it made sense to be unknown as you were undead and lost your mind. It broke the 4th wall and had the player experience the same state of mind as the character, learning as they progressed and read into items figments of knowledge.
As for Elden ring I’m assuming story telling will be more broad and open? We will have to see.

I like that you can see Malenias lips moving when you see the closeup of her and Radahn. She was speaking to him and we only learn what was said during the DLC. Insane.
Radhan and Malenia fight looked awesome. But now having played the game and understanding what scene that was, I could not help but feel sorry for Radhan. I'll wear his armor with pride.
The fact that Radahn in his prime stomped her so hard that she had to poison an entire country side to just tie says a lot about Radahn.
And having fought them both, I like Radahn even more after 4 days against Malenia.

@@NoneKnowing I hate Malenia. She bio-bombed an entire countryside and it would have spread to the entire rest of the Lands Between if Radahn's army didnt fight against and barricade the rot. Radahn and his army literally saved the entire map from annihlation.
Not 100% sure how much control of her Scarlet Rot she has since what the Scarlot Bloom represents is akin to an outer god; eg. The Greater Will. As far as I know she was born with Scarlot Rot, also not sure if she consciously used the flower since it knocked her out instantly and one of her only surviving soldiers carried her all the way from Caelid to the Haligtree (which is incredibly OP of the soldier to be honest).
@@pinguprice5480 She did consciously let the rot out. The Unalloyed Golden Needle you find was the one she used to keep the Scarlet Rot back, and it’s snapped in half; Millicent states “The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure.”

From Software's never had significant issues with polish anyway though. Their optimization is often mediocre and sometimes sections of the game are underdeveloped but they always release playable without any issues.
So even if quality isn't consistent, I see no reason this shouldn't be fully playable and smooth.

This should be the intro opening of the Elden Ring. It fits so much better in the game.
They put so much passion into their games. It's truly amazing. I can play a game filled with characters, dialogues and cutscenes and feel like "okay, that was cool". But when I play a fromsoftware game, I journey through the world I don't understand, meet characters I don't comprehend and miss the story that is clearly there, and yet it always becomes such a memorable experience. Somehow it hits harder then the most dramatic stories ever written. Can't wait for this game.

I love the tiny details so much; did you guys notice (which I’m sure you all did) that before the fight begins The Conqueror of the Stars is waiting for her to basically arm herself up before the fight? I don’t know but that just adds so much character to him, I think that’s cool!! They really know how to go give their characters…well, character. Without speaking or doing so. This game is already a legend and it has not even come out fully yet.
Also his swords have gravitation symbols on then and the sword sparks purple and in game the are gravitation spells which bring down meteors and the spells have the same symbols and the spell is purple and it seems fitting that the conqueror of the stars would use magic that would allow one to rain down meteors on his victims.

Remember the first trailer we got an age ago? It seems like some people and me have had an idea of how Radahn and Malenia's fight went, in the minute 1:12 of that first trailer, we can see how Cleanrot Knight Finlay stabs Radahn in some area near his abdomen or chest, then Malenia comes at 2:40 and stabs herself applying rot into the wound Radahn had, then Malenia explodes into the Scarlet Bloom and probably knocks out or incapacitates Radahn for a moment. With both demi-gods almost done for, Finlay retreats, dragging Malenia away from the battle and leaving Radahn, howling at the sky, succumbing to the Scarlet Rot by the end of the first trailer.
I really wanna know how lore accurate this is. Like did Malenia really had to gank up on Radahn??

@@juwe7143 more likely Radahn was simply wounded in the actual battle by a different Cleanrot Knight. Finlay is seen using a sickle, not a spear.
Consider that by the point of the final duel we see in this trailer both of their armies were effectively annihilated. The entire area there is a battlefield. All that’s left are the 2 demigods.
So yeah that wound wasn’t from a gank during the duel it happened prior to that when the armies were fighting.

Coming back to this with the context the game gives you through its lore puts so much into perspective. Witnessing the Night of Black Knives, the battlegrounds outside Lyndell, the duel between Radahn and Malenia, as well as Malenia's second blossom of three.
I think this is her first blossom, and the one in Elphael is her second after discovering Miquella was stolen. Why she then went a couple rooms over and sat in a chair is beyond me though. She seems more like she should have immediately left and started tearing the land apart, again, searching for him.
@@Wulfspyder My interpretation is that Elphael rotted simply for proximity. We don't see any giant flower there. If that's correct, the one during the fight with us is only the second blossom and she never became a true goddess.
@@Flymerick There's a blossom in the room on the left before you reach her boss door. And so far as we know, her doing the big flower power is what nuked Caelid. The blossom in Elphael is much smaller though, which is why Elphael and the Haligtree are more afflicted with cancer rather than Nurgle's toilet.

Up till you beat him he still holds up the "stars" (which is where astel and other celestial monsters come from) to protect the people. Well loved and admired by his soldiers who still protect caelid from the scarlet rot. Radahn set up the festival to die honorably bc he knows it's the best way to end his misery with the rot. Loves his horse so much he learnt anti gravity to ride his horse even after he grew to a massive size. Admired godfrey who was his idol.

I wouldn't say From Software's characters necessarily have a 'Western' and 'Gothic' style, certainly not in the main souls series. Whether you're talking 18th century Gothic fiction, modern Gothic fashion or just of the 'of the period of Gothic architecture' (Because no From Software game has ever succeeded in being convincingly Western, medieval either.) unless we're talking Bloodborne.
They've always had that blend of typical Japanese style European medieval fantasy design tropes but with many genuinely historically inspired 16-17th century elements introduced (Referenced architecture, armour, clothing, weapons) and some outright modern elements and elements inspired by Asian mythology. Extremely generic for a Japanese take on Western medieval fantasy, they all do it.
It doesn't have the same aesthetically authentic quality works like Berserk, Maria the Virgin witch or even to the level of Capcom's Dragons dogma (which is more a broad, loose adaption of elements from the 12th-18th century. But it's medieval inspired elements are much more clear & accurately portrayed than From Software's works). And it doesn't have the highly fantastical, otherworldly elements of other Japanese works. From Software's Japanese made 'medieval' fantasy has always been really generic and that still doesn't seem to have changed.
I bet cosmos or other universe or something like this is involved here 😁😜
There is a lot of Norse DNA in this game, which is quite a departure from the typical western Gothic stuff ... some even pointed out that the characters in the duel at the end are inspired by Brunhilda (a Valkyrie) & Siegfried (a mighty hero).
