such a great video it put so many pieces together. i’ve watched hours of lore videos and feel like i could’ve accomplished it all with this one 10 minute video. outstanding
I love that idea of just taking death out of the equation, but then it’s gives reason to why we have it in the first place. Godwyn is what happens when death isn’t an option, it becomes stagnant and corrupt, like anything that lives beyond a purpose or can’t move on. God the whole Elden Ring lore is perfect.
Man, you didn't expect these views, but you smashed all the history into dense story, something I've been looking for for ages. Main facts in one movie instead of 1626317w83 movies with all the details. I needed this movie to connect main things, so thank you kind sir!
I always looked at it like Marika created Radagon as a persona for herself to escape control of the Greater Will. Like she banished the Tarnished purposefully, with a plan to bring the back at an opportune time, as well as connecting the royal families of Leyndell and Liurnia by blood, in order to create a future free of the Elden Ring, Erdtree, and Greater Will.
ok that makes more sense because the "big moment of truth" where u learn that is such a nothingbomb until u watch 3 lore vids. Im just like "ok... and?"
But... she had won? She was the God of the Golden Order. She was the one being worshipped, not the Greater Will. And I'm pretty sure she still had personal autonomy, since the gods don't get mind controlled into not acting like mortals until Goldmask makes his mending rune.
@ReallyNeedsCoffee well she had a plan but it didn't go exactly how she wanted because ranni killed godwyn, and in her grief she shattered the elden ring
Awesome video! Plenty of inaccurices or oversimplifactions but that's what happens when you have 7 books worth of lore in one 10 minute video. Seriously well done
Ok. Time for me to fix all the errors and missed details. A. Rune of death is a T with black and red. The rune you drew is a mending rune, and the complete hollowbranch created when the same halfmark was cut through Godwyn's and Ranni's body. B. The unalloyed came before the Carians. This is going to be long. When Marika took away death, it was before she fought the fire giants. This is evident because instead of fire giants dusting away, their bodies remained. Godfrey was bansihed after the last fire giant cursed Marika to become the very thing she tried to rid of, and cloned herself to create Radagon. She had 3 children, who would be Miquella, Malenia, and unexpected twist, Melina. Miquella and Malenia would become twins, but Marika had different plans for Melina. She would hold destined death after it was rid from the world. However, Melina didn't like that much, so decided to kill gods with it instead, creating an entirely new fire, and creating legions of god-slayers, called Godskin Apostles. Godskin Nobles are later decendants that forcus more on their physical dexterity than their scorching fire. Marika got scared and called Maliketh to beat Melina, which somehow worked... Anyways, then Maliketh would get the rune of death, then Marika would send Radagon to fight in Caria, but Radagon pulled the ultimate No U. He married his enemy instead. This, again, led to 3 children you already know from this video. Now, the thing that proves the unalloyed came before the carians is the fact Gloam Eyed Queen is releted to the unalloyed. She must have died in order for Maliketh to get the rune of death, and Maliketh must have the rune of death for Rykard to know Maliketh's power, and create the blasphemous Claw to counteract Maliketh. Rykard is the batman of Elden Ring. C. The tarnished are decendants of the ancient tarnished that led the march alongside Godfrey. Everyone you meet in the Roundtable hold, had the same ancestors as you, and their family marched with Godfrey. The problem is, 5,000 years is a long time, and the tarnished kinda went everywhere after Godfrey died, which explains why you can choose from different classes of tarnished, and meet some completely different to you in the Roundtable. D. Mohg wasn't sent to the underground. He went to the sewers as same as Morgott, but the key difference is that Morgott stayed loyal while Mohg seeked the Formless Mother. The Formless Mother would enhance Mohg's cursed blood abilities, and turn him into the lord of blood. Morgott would stay loyal, and soon become the commander of the Night's Calvary. During the shattering war, the sewers were weakened, and two of the steongest omens broke free, and went on two different paths. One followed the Formless Mother into the underground we know as Mohgwyn Palace, and another stayed behind to defend the Erdtree, who was later unofficially given the title "king". E. Godfrey wasn't banished due to Marika. Godfrey's failure to stop the curse of the Fire Giant, him soon being blinded by Grace, and his heritage to omens were all causes of his banishement. F. Dragon Communion is different from Dragon Cult. Dragon communion is a herisy of eating dragon hearts for their abilities, and they are mostly from younger generation of dragons, mimicing the look of wyverns. Dragon cult is from Ancient Dragons which has a scale of Gravelstone, almost impenetrable both lorewise and gamewise. Seriously, you can't kill these guys after NG+ due to their increase in immunity and resistances.
one more that is perhaps the most important is that the crucible did not create life and the erdtree did not hijack it (the crucible is explicitly referred to as the primordial erdtree)
Brother, Melina is NOT the source of the Godskins. Idk where you’re getting that. She was likely still at least involved in God-killing, via the Night of Black Knives, but her being the Gloam Eyed Queen is an insane theory that I really need to see some supporting evidence for.
Great video! One note, it's a common misconception but the Great Tree and Crucible weren't a part of the same being. The Great Tree was what came first until something took it out (most likely the Greater Will), then the Crucible formed out of it through a process called "sprouting." Often seen in nature, it's a process where multiple branches sprout out of a seemingly dead stump to the point where it can become a tangled mess, and from the Great Tree the tangled mess would eventually form into the Crucible This growth and twisting of the branches continues as the branches compete for nutrients. Before long, one branch merges as the dominant trunk, thus becoming the main body of the reemerging tree. In this case, that main branch would become the Erdtree. Simply put, if placed on a time line it goes Great Tree -> Crucible -> Erdtree.
Good video but there were a few inaccuracies such as The Great Tree predating The Erdtree (The Great Tree is just a term for big ass trees) or The Erdtree being a parasite (It's the evolved form of The Crucible which is the origin of all life) but I do enjoy the humor lol
Thanks, that was a good video! Though iirc there is no 'great tree' that existed before the erdtree, Vaati later apologized and said he was wrong about that, and the DLC is seemingly going for the plotline that the erdtree was created wholesale at the beginning of the golden order, and at the same time Marika became a god.
The "Great Tree" is a translation error. Every time it is used in the japanese texts it is referred to the Erdtree, wich was generated by the Elden Beast and its primordial stage was the Crucible.
@Argos_RB Farum Azula. Also it's told to us in game that the erd tree was grown in secret in the beginning of the golden order to usurp another. It was the time when placidusax was the elden lord.
@@Youshallbeeatenbyme what do you mean by “Farum Azula”? Is there something specific in Farum Azula you are referring to? Nothing in Farum Azula refers to a great tree as far as I know, there are roots, but they are connected to trees that we can see on the island. As far as I know, there is no text in game referring to the Erdtree explicitly “usurping” a different tree. I know the theory, and why a lot of people believe it to be true, but it is by no means confirmed. Great tree root resin could just as well refer to the Erdtree, as it is a very great tree. As well as this the Japanese translation seems to interchangeably call the Erdtree “The Great Tree” I’m not saying it is definitely not true, I am saying that this video seems to talk about it as if it is generally accepted, which it is not
@Argos_RB The stone slab pictures in Farum Azule have a depiction of a large tree with a different orientation for the Elden Ring. I don't remember where in game I found someone talking about the rise of the golden order, but I remember them talking about how the golden order grew a tree in secret until they were ready to confront placidusax as the Elden Lord and usurp the Elden Ring. The roots are also another big tell that there was another erd tree... as I don't think the "great tree" was something all that different from the golden orders tree.
My head is swollen with this immense knowledge now, thanks! Now I can explain it to my buddy in poor detail whilst confusing all of the demigod children lol
I think the great tree preceded the crucible period during the time where placidusax was elden Lord. For some reason, that great tree was chopped up or burned down and the stem of the tree became the crucible, which is a botanical term where you graft a new plant to the old one, that's why it's a chaotic period because it's genetically unstable and that's why some were misbegotten. The erd tree finally grew up normally and that's the golden age of the tree where it was giving life sap that was collected my Marika. That's also when people were being born in the tree. The tree was later burned down, the cardinal sin, and that's why it's now a golden illusion.
Like 14 playthroughs and 1400 hours of lore videos watched....and I still have no idea what's going on, and I can't stop using BH Fang. Sigh, oh well, still fun!
Sorry, the rune Marika took from the Elden Ring was the Death rune, but the image shown is not the death rune, it is the mending rune of the Death Prince, a whole completely different rune. Just wanted to ya'll know.
Replaying the game for the sixth time, something occurred to me: If Radagon being Marika was supposed to be this big secret, and he was officially "just a champion" when he married Rennala, then why was Radahn, Rykard and Ranni considered demigods? It's not just that they had a piece of the Elden Ring, because one of the first things the Twofingers tells us is that the demigods are all children of Queen Marika.
bro the tarnished coming back was like the frigen pizza guy meme XD Also I seriously appreciate this vid been looking for one like it for awhile, God bless mate
I think it's possible that the fusion of Marika and Radagon happened shortly after the shattering as a curse from the Greater Will. Their imprisonment together was in response to what they both did to its influence over the lands between. Not certain, but there's more reason than less to recognize there was a certain point where she and Radagon were entirely separate entities.
one correction is that the crucible is the erdtree and it's explicitly called as much. The Erdtree did not 'hijack' the crucible nor is it parasitising the crucible. there's also the fact that the greater will created life and divided the one great, which predates both the erdtree and the crucible. Also what you need to keep in mind is that the actions of marika and the order established by her are not the actions of the greater will, and it clearly does not care about the specifics of order (given all 3 of the mending rune endings are antithetical to the golden order and at least 2 are guided by the greater will to make their mending runes).
yeah but you find another dead erdtree directly below the erdtree and the greater will is just a stronger force(outer god) playing behind the scenes like the frenzied flame, rot god blood god, dragon god. The greater will didn't create life heck it replaced dragon lord placidusax as the elden lord. So no it's just a being that wants to do whack shit with power gained from lands between
@@rohithk1475 the dragon god is the previous consort and not comparable to the greater will or the outer gods. The roots of the other tree are the erdtree. It's heavily implied the crucible/primordial erdtree was burned down (maybe by the godskin cult) and the erdtree we see now is a sort of incorporeal spirit. I would also disagree with the assertion that the greater will is an outer God, it seems to be the actual God of the setting. The Outer gods all represent a natural concept, whereas the greater will is what determined the rules of reality in the first place. And according to frenzied flame and the 3 fingers (which I don't think there is any reason to doubt them on this matter) the greater will did create life by dividing the one great.
Tarnished Archeologist suggests that there was a previous Tree- that also housed the Elden Ring. He theorises that each Age usually has its own Great Tree, and that they were periodically burned, leading to a new Tree and the next Age He also theorises that there were competing trees. The Erdtree did ‘exist in opposition to all else’ after all.
@@rohithk1475 The greater will is not comparable with the outer gods. In japanese text outer gods are translated to "kami" which means they are a manifestation of nature. And the greater will was never mentioned to be an outer god because it is The God.
@@jannafrancis7452something that I've been thinking about with regards to the DLC trailer -- the two trees strangling each other, many have supposed that it represents the Erdtree being strangled by the deathroot, but I think it's worth considering that it may show the *Erdtree* strangling the previous great tree.
the whole radagon/marika thing might be some sort of Numen physiology thing we just don’t understand. Numen are like rock people from outside of the lands between
The dialogue with the Dog Pope about the sculptor of Leyndell suggests that Marika and Radagon were always one and the same, as the statue was commissioned well before the Shattering War. Radagon always felt to me like a sort of alter-ego for Marika rather than a truly separate entity. It's just that as a Demigod or Goddess or whatever she counts as, it's possible to change her nature.

"Untill a tarnished with a brain came out" well I am damn sure he ain't talking about me cuz I burned the whole turn down with the frenzy flame ending cuz I went to the three fingers as a joke and didn't know how to get rid of it.
It’s like they mix all the souls like games lore and make it way more confusing
“Ah yes, all according to keikaku.”

this was cool. really liked the editing and art style you used.
and god damn them two fingers creepy
thanks!
yeah just cuz u name "it the entire history of elden ring, I guess" doesnt mean u gotta use the same editing
@@redmist6630it's very different from the original video's editing idk what you're talking about
I've never been able to watch through a whole story telling video for a game until today.
5:43 nope
Both twins were locked in the sewers. They both got shackled down there. But Mohg got visited by The formless mother god who freed him and inspired him to make the dynasty underground out of sight of his family.
This is the history channel that i only need in Elder Ring, as a first time player of Souls game. Thanks
Unironically the most comprehensible explanation of this game's lore.
5:44 Mohg actually lived in the capital sewers with Morgott but escaped which is why we can find his shackle down there
this was truly amazing. there's so many lore videos on youtube but none like this. i prefer this. no time wasted. If you have the energy it would be aweseme to see more elden ring lore videos like this. I still haven't under stood the entire story of godwyn for example.
Well done. You should do some more specific topics in the lore

such a great video it put so many pieces together. i’ve watched hours of lore videos and feel like i could’ve accomplished it all with this one 10 minute video. outstanding
It skips over a lot of stuff, so I would recommend still looking a other things. It is useful to get a timeline though.
their strenght, extraordinaire
I’ve watched so many lore videos and this is the first time I’ve had the core story told in such an accessible way, I finally understand, thank you!
hopefully we can understand wtf is going on when the DLC come out
You did great reaserch and explained everything perfectly. Keep up the work
Actually marika was radagon for a long time, since the sculptor said so in gold masks questline
Would've never imagined seeing the sun from the Argentinian flag in an Elden Ring video
This is correct, radagon is marika. Marika turned herself into Radagon to take advantage of Renalla.
They were never separate as you can tell by the goldmask ending
ok that makes more sense because the "big moment of truth" where u learn that is such a nothingbomb until u watch 3 lore vids.
The Minecraft villagers sounds are perfect
Forget reading this lol. The whole point of this vid is to get a decent gist without watching another boring youtuber.
@@kessq8753 You make no sense, the guy is making corrections, how can you "get a decent gist" when the information is wrong?
Brother, Melina is NOT the source of the Godskins. Idk where you’re getting that. She was likely still at least involved in God-killing, via the Night of Black Knives, but her being the Gloam Eyed Queen is an insane theory that I really need to see some supporting evidence for.
Ok now someone tell us about frenzy flame because I get mad it's not mentioned even though it's such a big part of the lore

@@metorasay AM I WRONG!?
Great video! One note, it's a common misconception but the Great Tree and Crucible weren't a part of the same being.
The Great Tree was what came first until something took it out (most likely the Greater Will), then the Crucible formed out of it through a process called "sprouting." Often seen in nature, it's a process where multiple branches sprout out of a seemingly dead stump to the point where it can become a tangled mess, and from the Great Tree the tangled mess would eventually form into the Crucible
This growth and twisting of the branches continues as the branches compete for nutrients. Before long, one branch merges as the dominant trunk, thus becoming the main body of the reemerging tree. In this case, that main branch would become the Erdtree.
Simply put, if placed on a time line it goes Great Tree -> Crucible -> Erdtree.
there should be an npc you talk to and he just pulls out his phone and shows you this
Good video but there were a few inaccuracies such as The Great Tree predating The Erdtree (The Great Tree is just a term for big ass trees) or The Erdtree being a parasite (It's the evolved form of The Crucible which is the origin of all life) but I do enjoy the humor lol
I don’t think I’ll ever play Elden Ring but I live for all the lore videos. Really for any game made by FS. Great video!
the craziest and most amazing part is - all of this is open to interpretation
it do be like that for fromsoftware
Eldenbeast with the thicc gyatt is the last thing I expected.
Thanks, that was a good video!
Though iirc there is no 'great tree' that existed before the erdtree, Vaati later apologized and said he was wrong about that, and the DLC is seemingly going for the plotline that the erdtree was created wholesale at the beginning of the golden order, and at the same time Marika became a god.
ngl, that Godfrey slander was funny
this is the greatest lore video i've seen on this game so far
The "Great Tree" is a translation error. Every time it is used in the japanese texts it is referred to the Erdtree, wich was generated by the Elden Beast and its primordial stage was the Crucible.
Exactly. 大樹根 simply refers to the Erdtree's roots.
大 = big / great
樹根 = root(s), specifically of a tree and not of another type of plant
With this kind of quality from a video, I did not expect you to have under 1k subs.
We need a dlc lore remake of this
This is a lot of theory to be clear, like the great tree theory stuff is built on a pretty flimsy amount of “evidence”
There was another tree during the time when the dragons held the great rune.
@@Youshallbeeatenbyme source?
As well as this the Japanese translation seems to interchangeably call the Erdtree “The Great Tree”
I’m not saying it is definitely not true, I am saying that this video seems to talk about it as if it is generally accepted, which it is not
@Argos_RB The stone slab pictures in Farum Azule have a depiction of a large tree with a different orientation for the Elden Ring.
Thank you for simplifying , some other video’s are 3 hours long and talk in english from the 17th century
And then after all this some random tarnished aka we the players goes on a rampaged killing all the demigods
You unironically understand the lore of this game better than most UA-camrs
I am 3 minutes and an I am actually surprised by how simplified this is, and how much it actually is covering
After watching hours of Elden Ring Lore, this is probably the most I've actually learned about this game. 😊
Crazy first video, really enjoyable. You should cover bloodborne
My head is swollen with this immense knowledge now, thanks! Now I can explain it to my buddy in poor detail whilst confusing all of the demigod children lol
so, we the good guys or the bad guys
Best breakdown in 10 mins I’ve seen.
Radagon is Marika and Weezy is Wayne
I think the great tree preceded the crucible period during the time where placidusax was elden Lord. For some reason, that great tree was chopped up or burned down and the stem of the tree became the crucible, which is a botanical term where you graft a new plant to the old one, that's why it's a chaotic period because it's genetically unstable and that's why some were misbegotten. The erd tree finally grew up normally and that's the golden age of the tree where it was giving life sap that was collected my Marika. That's also when people were being born in the tree. The tree was later burned down, the cardinal sin, and that's why it's now a golden illusion.
great video made it way easier 2 understand lowkey forial
Queen marika is the epitome of "Seduction and Betrayal"
Like 14 playthroughs and 1400 hours of lore videos watched....and I still have no idea what's going on, and I can't stop using BH Fang. Sigh, oh well, still fun!
I ❤ edging to this
Sorry, the rune Marika took from the Elden Ring was the Death rune, but the image shown is not the death rune, it is the mending rune of the Death Prince, a whole completely different rune. Just wanted to ya'll know.
Greatest use of the narrator moaning "Ughhh, rise now," I've seen yet, congrat!
Hahahahaa i was hoping youd mention the whole thing of marika smashing rennala via radagon, she really was on those 10000 IQ big brain plays
bro the tarnished coming back was like the frigen pizza guy meme XD
Also I seriously appreciate this vid been looking for one like it for awhile, God bless mate
I think it's possible that the fusion of Marika and Radagon happened shortly after the shattering as a curse from the Greater Will. Their imprisonment together was in response to what they both did to its influence over the lands between. Not certain, but there's more reason than less to recognize there was a certain point where she and Radagon were entirely separate entities.
lol . btw the art style is top notch and the video is informative :3
This was really well done. Subbed
I rarely comment in UA-cam channel videos, but I have to say: your video is the best summary of Elden Ring's lore I ever seen.
When we arrive the greater will is already gone , we arrive thanks to the last glimps of sanity of marika
better be on top of this DLC dude, its gonna go a long way
one correction is that the crucible is the erdtree and it's explicitly called as much.
He theorises that each Age usually has its own Great Tree, and that they were periodically burned, leading to a new Tree and the next Age
He also theorises that there were competing trees.

Great video! I am going to share this to my buddy. It’s not too serious, but accurate and enjoyable.
Fuck dude, ice cream shops, you freaking mad man.
Not me watching this video while waiting for elden ring to load
The dialogue with the Dog Pope about the sculptor of Leyndell suggests that Marika and Radagon were always one and the same, as the statue was commissioned well before the Shattering War. Radagon always felt to me like a sort of alter-ego for Marika rather than a truly separate entity. It's just that as a Demigod or Goddess or whatever she counts as, it's possible to change her nature.
The emphasis you use saying "the lands between" is seriously fucking with me
I really wish I'd found this 36 hours ago.
