The smartest move they made ending the album with the title track. Makes you appreciate it more. Other bands rarely do that nowadays. Just an amazing record!
Same broke up with my girl I’m on the verge of tears with the lyrics but then get brought back up with those positive guitar riffs the song is an emotional roller coaster to say the least…
Bought every cd within days of the release since I bought ATF when it dropped after just getting into adrenaline, and hell yeah I know that feeling . That's a big deal . All the other bands I always bough their release. Aren't making cds on the constant really like they are .
i get that same feeling! and i've been a fan since 1996 when I saw them live at Ozzfest. They opened on Main Stage and I was like WHO the F IS THIS?? been obsessed ever since....
This has to be what a long-term relationship feels like. You fall in love when your a hot passionate youth, commit yourself and swear you'll always love them. Then life happens and you drift apart, occasionally reminiscing about the old days. Then 20 some odd year later you find yourself falling in love with them all over again, and it feels like the first time.
That’s correct sir. Or madam. I’ve been in a 14 year ship and she left me 2 years ago…. Lately look who is crawling back. And I’ll accept her back because she is my lobster. And I fell even more in love the longer we were apart. Human emotions are insane and love is probabaly the most insane.

SERIOUSLY. No other band makes me feel like I'm riding waves, cut with the grind and that me-against-the-world solo flying past the world doing their s*** like Deftones
I characterized myself by saying that I never had a favorite band, until one day Deftones came to my ears, my life and my heart. They are the soundtrack of my entire life and the truth is that I am very happy that they continue to create more magic for our ears.
I was expecting darker Deftones looking at the first visual but in these dire times, we needed this. The distortion combined with the uplifting riffs into this powerful melodic culmination gives us strength and hope. This video reminds me of the verse "for we walk by faith, not by sight”. Both man and woman walking stoically through dystopia but not in a completely lifeless setting. As you can see the surrounding plants and leaves still on the trees with splashes of red symbolizing love. The destroyed automobiles (representing materialism) floating have no weight because they are useless. The reappearing hands symbolizing strength and protection. The wolf represents freedom. When they are finally united below the cherry blossom tree (symbolizing life, death and renewal) in harmony with the lotus flowers and fish represent rebirth. Utopia arises in the midst of chaos showing us nothing really matters only LOVE. Thank you DEFTONES ❤️
Red doesn't always mean love. Red and black are used for rituals (not necessarily a bad thing, not always at least) But I like the meaning you gave to the video, you're seeing light in darkness

I started listening to this band in 97. I love how this band has progressed with me musically over the years. They truly care about their artistic impression over getting with a big pop label. Great song guys.
IMO ever since post white pony a lot of their songs needed a few listens to be classics but before that they were first time bangers! Think it’s just the maturity of their music you have to listen deeper. 🤷♂️ Every time I listen to this one it gets better than the last!!🙌🤘
I'm 40. Deftones have been my favorite band since 96. I've been to countless shows. My two sons now love deftones. This is something beautiful that we can relate to. Song did not disappoint. Going to be gold
Had a daughter too been following Deftones since 2000, yeah I know it’s nothing comparing to rest of the awesome comments here. I’m 31 now and I’m from Shanghai, China. Hope music will link us all in these crazy times. Peace.
Tool and Deftones are the only bands I can think of in which I'm still just as much a fan today as I was back in the mid to late 90s. No matter how much my taste in music has changed or broadened, they've never stopped being my favorite bands for basically 25 years. Deftones are interesting because they've changed so much but my taste in music changed right along with them. I've seen both in concert numerous times, tool as early as this year, but I could die a happy man if they'd go on tour together. Tool would be the headliner just because they put on such an intricate and complex show
This is seriously the best thing they've done in years, maybe decades. Familiar, yet utterly original. New album is a killer and has redeemed 2020 for me somewhat.
>they stopped progressing on GORE. Eh, no. Gore makes sense considering the period and mentality the band has at that moment. It's more alternative than prog or post (as, let's say, Koi No Yokan) 'cause most influences at that moment were like that, and Chino lead the creativity over Carpenter. It isn't a bad album, but it's surely a product of its time. With this one they seems to take back the post rock they were exploring in Koi. The band has ALWAYS been progressing and experimenting, doing what they feel is the way to go at its moment.
Just finished listening to the whole album for the 3rd time. It's four in the morning and the album dropped 4 hours ago. Was totally worth the all nighter.
That's so bad ass. That's exactly how I felt about augment by erra and alien by northlane, and wolves within by after the burial. Then I I got into deftones recently a lot more.
On account of I didn’t watch any other 2020 music videos, ya Imma say this is the number 1 spot for best music video, possibly best ever made in history
@@killingj0y you are confusing them making the same sound with them always making music that sounds like them. They will always be genuine in their writing, but they do experiment greatly.
They always sound the same but different. Defined their own quality, it's a brand. No single album I dislike or like less, it would be a though cookie to rank the discography. This is craft, artistry and evolution without loosing their signature. Nowadyas I can't think, of anyone else capable doing this and still maintaining highest lvl without selling their soul or being repetative but, let's say it... being recognisable and somehow mainstreem but keeping it low key.
Don’t for get about new ones from Pallbearer, Old Man Gloom and Sumac. As much as this year is shit at least their are some great albums that have come out with more on the way.
Chino's hairstyle is reminding me of the White Pony era, and vocally he does great here. Especially on the words where he lets his voice soar. The guitar is bright but still thick, the drumming is on point, the bass sounds good... Solid fuckin' track. Looking forward to the album!
@@MrGrimmJim Disagree. His hair is down more here and drooping, like at the 0:32 mark, which reminds me of his appearance in 2000, and prior to this, his hair has been more up and almost "fluffed" to a degree, if that makes sense.
Actually many musicians who have released stuff and have done live streams saved it for me. I have had some very good guitar lessons this year too so... not that bad of a year for myself with home improvement and all for more comfort overall. Sure you can't kill corona virus with music, but many musicians releases have given me stuff to look forward to getting and listening to thus year. I am even a musician myself and since insta has been having so many people on it I have posted more music stuff this year there. I also think instagram is one of the best social media places for musicians and you musicians could do a twitch stream to get more money than from youtube or do yt and twitch stream at the same time if they take the time to set that up properly. With all this online usage people are doing, I think taking brakes from tech with screens for a bit is good for mental health plus blue light filters durring or before bedtime can help. 2020 was terrible for some, but so far I don't mind not being around friends that much in person myself.
Last year my friend took her own life. A couple of years prior we'd saw Deftones live together in Glasgow (they were amazing, of course). I wish she could be around to hear this, she'd have loved it. R.I.P. Robyn.
The sun always shines after the rain. 2020 has been a disaster but this phenomenal new Deftones makes me feel we are headed towards a new era of rebirth. Let’s get it ✊
Wow, just an incredible voice and sound. In all their years, Deftones haven’t come out with something that I haven’t loved. I’m glad they haven’t stopped yet.

Stuart Ross you don’t like gore? Are you saying there’s a bad deftones album? Is that what you’re saying? Hey everyone this guy thinks the deftones make bad music🙄
The fact that Stephen is playing a 9 stringer and staying roughly in the middle of the neck makes me stoked to what heavy riffs might come out of this album.
Try listening to it more than once. Like perhaps 5-10 times. I swear almost every Deftones song is a grower. Reminds me of Radiohead. You gotta listen more than once. It all starts to come together at some point.

I FEEL THE SAME BRO!
This is the most accurate comment ever. Here I am at 36 years old becoming obsessed with my favorite band all over again
Thats my story
That’s correct sir. Or madam. I’ve been in a 14 year ship and she left me 2 years ago…. Lately look who is crawling back. And I’ll accept her back because she is my lobster. And I fell even more in love the longer we were apart. Human emotions are insane and love is probabaly the most insane.

We're surrounded
By debris of the past
And it's too late
To cause a change in the tides
So we slip into
A hopeless sea of regret
As I stare
Through
The haunted maze
In your eyes
Right through
Where I remain
For all time
And time won't change this

As we slip on through, we promise to meet again

The cars aren’t floating, they’re being held up by the hands..
David Martinez only one car... the rest are floating
Wow seems like your read a couple books on Carl Jung either way awesome look on it !
Peach G true... but they are not using it that way. Red alone symbolizes love.

No matter how much my taste in music has changed or broadened, they've never stopped being my favorite bands for basically 25 years. Deftones are interesting because they've changed so much but my taste in music changed right along with them. I've seen both in concert numerous times, tool as early as this year, but I could die a happy man if they'd go on tour together. they stopped progressing on GORE. Maybe they'll start again
Nope.
Gore is a good album, dude. The production is a bit messy and that's the biggest problem with it, but there's a ton of good stuff
>they stopped progressing on GORE.

Same to you. 💛🤘
never heard owt more true👍🏼🤘🏼
It's a start of a new decade... which means only one thing. Another masterpiece from the deftones. white Pony in 2000, diamond eyes in 2010.
You nailed it, every decade their sounds fresh, not sticking on same formula over and over again
Wait wat. The decade started 8 months ago...
@@kingsizeblues616 And yet 2020 is still at the start of the next 10 years
@@RyuuHatake No shit, my point was that he said that this current time is the start of 2020, cos ya know, its not..
YES 🙌🏻
It gets better and better every time I listen. If this is the tone of the album it’s going to be dope!!
Here before millions. Deftones till death.
Fan since they debuted on 120 minutes
🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️❤❤❤❤
cannot wait for your comeback yall.. its gonna be great!!
Very true
New Deftones AND a new Tony Hawk game in the same year, am I a teenager again?! Bring it on!
New Tony hawk ? Whaaaaaat
Not NEW but a remake
@@eduardovaldez2124 Which one are they remaking?
Best things 2020 brings 🙌🙌
Everything is coming up Milhouse!!!😁😁😁
Am I the only one who’s annoyed that most of us were supposed to hear this at their concert this year?... well, better late than never 😍
I feel you on that one homie! ✊🏽 DEFTOOOOOONES!!!🤘🏽

They were supposed to play in a week in Atlanta.
Yup! No dia del los deftones this yr either!!!!
@@thisistherevolt man i know right it sucks i was going to that show too lol see you there next year
So hypnotizing..
One of the best songs created by one of the greatest
When I heard on the radio today that they were coming out with a new album, my heart skipped a beat!!! I'm 48, loved these guys since day one! I hope they tour, because I'm getting tickets if they hit my city🤘🏻
I'm right there witcha.. we'll see how this "covid 19" shit plays out 1st. Then see who is playing & when....🤔🤨😒😤
Same
All the tour date are moved to next year. Same dates same location. Just a year later
Still have my adrenaline t shirt .. it’s too small for me now and has a bunch of holes. Can’t bring myself to throw it .
Hell yeah Jordy. White pony was my shit... so to u I say keep it golden pony boy
First listen; "hm".
Second listen; "BANGER"
The boys never let me down.
it's shit
@@YoungCashFlex Legit sounds like deftones. They didnt switch up sound in this, so tbh if you think this sounds like shit then you probably never liked Deftones to begin with.
What a comment. Thanks for contributing your effort. Emphasis on the 'effort'.
@@MasterJimJim apparently, he never understood their shoegazey influence, because its ALL over this track.
@@YoungCashFlex that was constructive and helpful...

I agree. Deftones new album has to be the best thing about 2020. Facts
Agree 💙💙💙
I would nominate this as best hard rock song of 2020!
I'm with you, such a kick ass song
and here we are: its a grammy nominee 2022
Deftones got me through the hardest part of my life. I’ve been falling back into that pit lately and it was particularly hard today. This popping up on my recommended brought such a genuine smile to my face :,) I’ve been waiting for them to drop new music
Hang in there 🤘let the deftones take you far away!
Your weak
I hope you find your stride again soon, I'm sorry to hear that life might not be treating you all that great right now, but do well to remember that everything always change for the better at some point. Keep on rocking, Deftones is a great place for an emotional outlet, and I don't know you but I wish you all the best.
Can we try and be friends?
If you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're," then you are obviously the weak-minded one here. If you ever want a job above minimum wage, maybe you should consider developing your English skills above a second grade level.
Deftones age like fine wine. Even their songs need time to fully digest. Every listen Ohms and Genesis get better. If the album is even half as good as these tracks we're in for a hell of an album
This comment aged well
@@simonhaines681 But.....it actually did.
I adore the new album. I can immediately tell it will get better with each listen.
I've listened to the whole album 3 times now....and that is indeed the trend.
You don't like it I take it?
@@avedic Oh no I wasn't being sarcastic! The album is completely fucking amazing - your comment just made me smile because we were all unsure whether the album would live up to the singles and, well, it's better than we could have imagined. It stands next to WP as my favourite 'tones album of all time, and that is saying a lot. Rock on brother!
@@avedic every listen the album gets better for me. I think I'm onto my 10th or 11th runthrough. It's pretty much a permanent resident in my car now :)
Yes my friend it does age like wine.
The second best day of my life was seeing the Deftones open for Pantera. The best day of my life was seeing the Deftones and Pantera open for Black Sabbath.
One of the best comments on UA-cam I’ve ever read.
97? I had tickets for that Sabbath show and it got cancelled

I saw deftones open for Panthers too! That’s how I discovered them!🤘🏻
Props to Rafatoon. What a great job man! One of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a while.
Deftones makes me fucking nostalgic. I know I can always expect the best from this band. I love it.
Steph doesn't get enough credit for being a beast.
He prob will on this sh
But a well known fact among guitar players

even Cunningham for that matter
Caleb Fernando yes Abe has a signature sound I find - and knows where to leave open areas and to fill others!
