Van city Warp Tour 1996. Chino was crowd surfing and when he got back on stage was missing a shoe. Stopped singing and screamed "gimme back my fucking shoe" and the shoe came flying back on stage from the crowd. Most bad-ass thing i have seen at a show ever!

Middle of their set, Chino stops the band because from where he was, kneeling on the crowd right at the edge of the stage, he saw a girl go down and get trampled. He made sure she got out, then effortlessly starts the band right where they left off. As I was remembering this, I checked to see if there's a video. My mom and my dad listened to deftones and they loved it. And my they both played it all throughout my childhood. We even played deftones at my dad's funeral. They were both obsessed with this band and now here I am. 15 and still in love with deftones.

In the UK we have a thing at school called sports day. I remember sitting with my friends clutching my cd copy of adrenaline waiting for the day to end so I could go home and listen to it. Once the sack race (don't ask) and all the other pointless activities had ended I shot home and blasted it out as loud as my broke as sound system would allow. Now as a 34 year old guy I sit with my big ass headphones on while my 2 year old sleeps upstairs listening to the very same songs and nothing has changed. New metal may not have been the revelation we all thought it was back then and to be fair most of the stuff I loved now makes me wince a little. But deftones always have been and always will be the fucking balls! Especially adrenaline, around the fur and white pony. Happy days.

I do miss the pre smartphone days. I remember getting Around the Fur in 97. A friend of mine went to the mall on a school trip and I gave him 20 bucks to get it for me. My bus was about to leave and he ran up and gave it to me through the window. Somehow I still remember that, 25 years later...
I remember seeing this video/hearing the song for the first time and literally freezing in place I was in such awe. The melody, groove, and screaming at the end... I became an instant fan.

I was in my homies car playing this non-stop by myself in front of a raging house party circa 95-96. My man Mos(The ill Puerto) was playing Adrenaline on the ride to the party earlier . (my first time hearing the tones CD not just a single on the radio). Fun Fact: Mos is the puerto Rican doppelganger for Chino(no cap! They could be brothers)
Anyways!!! I had a legit "desperato" moment that night & told my man Mos(The ill Puerto) to let me see his keys I needed to hear that song again. With the hazy look of destiny in my eyes he gave me the keys to the Nissan & I stepped out.
I instinctively immersed myself (meaning: I was drunk & high doing my obsessive Emo thing on the song I couldn't escape) . Even still! As G as I usually was, unbeknownst to me in the moment I felt a moment of genuine enlightenment .
I grew up listening to everything from Duran Duran to old school Ice- T! ("Reckless" Breaking soundtrack).
The Deftones were the first & only "Metal" band that undoubtedly collided my unique , growing up in the 80's, "what you talking bout Willis"! (RIP I think the whole cast?) blk kid military brat, who wanted a Vision Gator w Bullet Wheels & also watched BEAT STREET in the theaters as a kid (RIP Ramon)... They placed all those worlds together for me in a way that resonated effortlessly & they are on a very short list of artists I view as more of a conduit than entertainment.
