I got chills when Nick Diaz walked out to this song. This walkout was different. It was like a last stand. An old warrior coming out for the last time to participate in War. Nick Diaz will always be my favorite MMA Fighter, seeing him lose was heartbreaking but I know he has been in enough wars to be a certified LEGEND of the sport of MMA. The General of the Army, Nick Diaz. I'm a soldier for life.

If we're talking disappointments I'd say roughly two thirds of White Pony and Diamond Eyes. Those records had the highest highs but also the most uninspired, cheapest lower tier songs in all of their discography. Oh and honorable mention for This Link Is Dead too - worst lyrics in a Deftones song, ever. This Link Is Dead single-handedly pushes Ohms lower than Gore in my personal chart.
The only reason you can come to "everyone and everything sucks" is if you consolidate on what you know, and neglect to go out there and search for new and better. For every great band you know, there are thousands of great ones you've never heard of. Same goes for people.

I've noticed a lot of Deftones music (or at least how I interpret it) has to do with the pitfalls of vanity, narcissism, and misplaced value in trivial traits. Honestly, this music video cinches that theory. A young woman moves through multiple bars, each more esoteric than the last (a metaphor for climbing social ladders through networking) but in doing so loses parts of herself (Trading with each band member parts of her soul: Admitting her persona is false, giving up something precious to her represented as a golden fly, permitting self harm.) This culminates in her ultimate goal: reaching the "end", despite the songs warning before she even entered the first bar (How can't you see / This is the end?) At the end, she meets the witch who whispers something into her ear, which represents introspection gained at the end of her journey. The truth about herself, and how the sacrifice of her soul was her downfall in the end. Destroying who she was a person (On the outside, just skin and bones / Show me, what's left?) to climb an invisible social ladder (It's an illusion / It's all an illusion) to find some glimmer of validation at the end of it, only to be met with the harsh truth of her actions, causing her to run away. (So I'm leaving you tonight / It's not fun here anymore)
Along similar lines to your take but could be about people/young women coming to LA for a dream...but to achieve this dream...you must walk through doors and make deals w people. Sell your soul type of stuff...everyone thinks they want it until they don’t...and if you talk up they cal you crazy a la Britney Spears, Corey Feldman, Kanye and countless others
Deftones was one of my late fiancé’s fav bands, top 3 and he was extremely musically fluent in multiple genres. I wish he could have been alive to hear this.. he’d have loved it. Maybe he can listen to it with me when he visits. Love this, on my playlist. Love my deftones tarot deck, can’t get enough of that. Keep it coming 🙏🏻

However Opeth will never come in the same ballpark (not even 10%) as Deftones' album sales despite being musically in a league of their own. Deftones is one of the most succesful bands of the past 20 years, certainly not underrated. And RATM/Tool hardly sold more albums than Deftones, while SOAD sold as much as the three other bands combined.

i feel like the meaning behind this is that you find something that you want to see is true or not. go thru all these doors questioning yourself, while others question why you are looking for an answer, when you already know how it’ll end. her giving them objects at every door might mean that she’s giving them hints to what she’s looking for. when she finally gets to the last door a guy passes her and is seen wounded. now she knows how the answer to her question will end, but she still wants to know despite her getting hurt in the end. but idk, just my thought :) i love that everyone can interpret deftones music videos & songs differently

I've noticed a lot of Deftones music (or at least how I interpret it) has to do with the pitfalls of vanity, narcissism, and misplaced value in trivial traits. Honestly, this music video cinches that theory.
A young woman moves through multiple bars, each more esoteric than the last (a metaphor for climbing social ladders through networking) but in doing so loses parts of herself (Trading with each band member parts of her soul: Admitting her persona is false, giving up something precious to her represented as a golden fly, permitting self harm.)
This culminates in her ultimate goal: reaching the "end", despite the songs warning before she even entered the first bar (How can't you see / This is the end?)
At the end, she meets the witch who whispers something into her ear, which represents introspection gained at the end of her journey. The truth about herself, and how the sacrifice of her soul was her downfall in the end.
Destroying who she was a person (On the outside, just skin and bones
/ Show me, what's left?) to climb an invisible social ladder (It's an illusion / It's all an illusion) to find some glimmer of validation at the end of it, only to be met with the harsh truth of her actions, causing her to run away. (So I'm leaving you tonight
/ It's not fun here anymore)
I feel like Chino has a gift for writing beautifully about the less beautiful aspects of the human soul

Deftones was one of my late fiancé’s fav bands, top 3 and he was extremely musically fluent in multiple genres. I wish he could have been alive to hear this.. he’d have loved it. Maybe he can listen to it with me when he visits.

However Opeth will never come in the same ballpark (not even 10%) as Deftones' album sales despite being musically in a league of their own. Deftones is one of the most succesful bands of the past 20 years, certainly not underrated. And RATM/Tool hardly sold more albums than Deftones, while SOAD sold as much as the three other bands combined.

i feel like the meaning behind this is that you find something that you want to see is true or not. go thru all these doors questioning yourself, while others question why you are looking for an answer, when you already know how it’ll end. her giving them objects at every door might mean that she’s giving them hints to what she’s looking for. when she finally gets to the last door a guy passes her and is seen wounded. now she knows how the answer to her question will end, but she still wants to know despite her getting hurt in the end.
