WTF Happened to Yuji Ide (Worst Formula One Driver Ever?)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 вер 2024
- Whenever you see a list of the worst Formula One drivers of all time, you almost always see Yuji Ide somewhere in there. His stint in Formula One was short-lived, yet chaotic. But, how did it all go so wrong, after a relatively successful junior career?

Imagine being a better driver than 99.9% of earths population, and still being called "the worst driver ever".
that's probably being generous
i'd say he's safely better than 95% of the earth's population
although i think Ide was hard done by. nobody remembers chanoch nissany? who was 13 seconds slower in free practice. although by chanoch's own admission he wasn't an F1 driver, just somebody with a lot of money who wanted to drive once in F1
his son is roy nissany. william's new er... test? development driver?
@@punkypink83 5% is about 330 million people, thats about the population of the US. I highly doubt there are that many race car drivers more capable than him.

2:58 I've noticed 2 things here:
1. Allegedly great FE driver Andre Lotterer barely beat Yuji Ide

Yuji Ide aka the only driver in history to have his superlicence revoked
He should be proud of his achievement!
Damn.. what an achievement
No shit? What a guy
Not quite true. He's the only to have had it revoked through dangerous driving. A few drivers, including both Schumacher brothers and Jenson Button, have had their licence revoked mid season due to medical protocol. However in all cases it was merely a formality as none of the drivers were intending to drive against medical advice, and then had their license reinstated when able to pass fitness.

Maybe F1 isn't the sport for the Japanese? I know that seems racist, but look at every other sports dominated by certain races.
@@gp7066 Maybe that's not about "being Japanese" but rather that there are a lot of accessible racing classes there that the average Japanese driver never feels the need to make it into F1?
I guess, the language-barrier in fact does a lot. I mean, the English many Japanese drivers speak is a nightmare… His F1 time was the only time, he had been racing outside of Japan.
Now compare that to his teammate Takuma Sato, who's easily the most successful Japanese openwheel-driver ever: Sato did one race in the Japanese F3 in 1998, went to Britain for 1999 and almost never came back. In 2012/13 Sato made a few races in the Fomula Nippon. The only race he even finished? A last place when half the field dropped out.
F1 is dominated by a handful of nations. Most of the teams are based within a few miles of Silverstone.
i think its obvious he didn't get that much time to get used to the car. Plus the first super aguri cars were pretty terrible too
Your pronunciation of the Japanese names is like when a weeb tries to impress you after watching subbed anime
r/rareinsults moment
WAIT!
He was on an "all Japanese" team, and the problem was that he couldn't speak ENGLISH?!?
I also wondered about this. I know most of the F1 teams are based in the UK and most of their engineers etc. are either British or have spent so much time there they have to speak English. But I thought Suzuki’s whole point with Super Aguri was to give Japanese engineers etc. a chance and to base the team in Japan. Did that just end up being completely not cost effective? Gods now I have to look this up!
Teams have to talk in English during the race through the radio. It's a FIA thing.
@@Maartwo But I slightly remember that Ferrari always talked in italian
Couple of things:
- Ide came within a race of being GT300 Champion in 1999 for NISMO, though spun in his closing stint which didn’t help.
- After the 2006 Suzuka 1000km, he did extract a great measure of redemption by winning the race in 2010 - driving for Aguri’s team- alongside Ralph Firman and Takashi Kobayashi, who took pole as a one-off third driver entrant then never did a stint in the race.
Motoyama was already in his early 30s by the time he last pursued an F1 drive in 2003-04 and, given his accolades, I agree that it’d have been interesting to see if he’d achieve any kind of success with such a late start and no backing from Toyota or Honda.
Can you make a video about Wtf happened to Christian Albers. He was arrested a few weeks ago.
Also a video about Haas before they came into F1 might be interesting
Why was he arrested?
The Haas video would just be a summary of their NASCAR stats. Wouldn’t be a bad video, but it doesn’t really work if it’s their *entire* story before getting into F1.
Satanizr, he wasn’t arrested
shmet doesn’t sound like he was actually arrested
You may be thinking of Carl Haas. The NASCAR and F1 teams are both owned by Gene Haas.

WTF Happened to Yuji Ide (Second Worst Formula One Driver Ever?)
😂
Honestly, I've seen some of his laps, and although I'm no expert it looks like it's just a combination of things. Breaking a bit early, clunky gear shifts, biting into the turns a bit too aggressive then having to correct etc. No doubt the car had issues as well so it's not all on him, but it just seems like he was a little bit bad at the finer details driving the car. I wonder if his GT driving impacted the way he drove an f1 car as well? It would explain the early breaking, clunky shifts etc.

"Yuji Ide is the worst F1 driver ever."
Mazepin: And I took that personally.
Potentially controversial opinion:
Mazepin is probably better than Ide. The Haas is very hard to drive and the team is dysfunctional.
At the end of the day, he came 5th in F2 in an ultra-competitive era. He just needs to work on his sportsmanship and on track awareness to become a decent driver. He also needs to learn to shut his mouth.
With his record, I'm surprised he never drove for Ferrari.

One of the reason Satoshi Yamamoto was not chosen as the next Japanese F1 driver was because that he once did a Dan Ticktum in 1997 so quite a few thinks that he shouldn’t represent Japan in F1
