Just because they’re racing in F1 doesn’t mean they belong there. I’m not saying that driving an F1 car is easy but 99% of the people don’t have the money to train for driving an F1 car. If everyone did, do you think these drivers would still be better than 99.9% of the people? Alex Yoong was driving for Minardi and missed out several qualifications due to failing to meet the 107% threshold. He eventually got suspended for two races, not by the FIA but by his own team boss Paul Stoddard, for being too slow compared to his teammate. @robert Wijnands, I'm another Malaysian who is proud of Alex Yoong. He was the 1st Msian to race in F1 all those years ago. 20 years by now. A big country like China only now has their 1st rep in Zhou. It was hard being the pioneer, F1 is very expensive sport. Alex Yoong had more success in A1 though, with a Malaysian team. I remember watching Dave Walker in Formula Ford and Formula 3. He was brilliant. He won 25 out of 32 races in Formula 3 in 1971 including the (win this and you really are good) race in Monaco. I think it was down to Chapman giving him a rubbish Grand Prix car because he definitely had the ability in my opinion.
I agree. He was very good in UK Formula Ford and in F3 he easily had the wood on James Hunt. Hunt was very, very complimentary about Walker in his biography - he was mystified that a guy who was not just good, but dominant in F3, came across as hopeless in F1. I don't think it is fair, or very knowledgeable, to include Walker with a bunch of drivers who were totally out of their depth in F1. I also think Lance Stroll is, whilst not top drawer, still reasonable and on his day can do a good job. Yes, it's "Dad's money" that got him into F1, but he is a consistently respectable qualifier - unlike Mazepin.

Just because they’re racing in F1 doesn’t mean they belong there. I’m not saying that driving an F1 car is easy but 99% of the people don’t have the money to train for driving an F1 car. If everyone did, do you think these drivers would still be better than 99.9% of the people? Anyone can afford to kick or dribble a ball, so I’ll give props to professional football and basketball players, but until motor sports becomes more accessible to the masses, don’t tell me that those participants are “better” than anyone. They’re just more privileged to get the opportunity.
@@MrPhilbautista Every one on this list will still beat you by a country mile. They may be in F1 because of money, but that doesn't mean any ol' Bob from down the street can even come close to this.
Me: Just here looking for comments about Mazepin.
Scary part is that these guys were still far better drivers than any of us.
well, I cant disagree with that
I’m doing pretty well for myself and I’ve never been a mockery of…. Wait…
I used to drive a truck for Coca Cola and one Monday my truck was stolen by a homeless person, we got it back that evening
Tuesday I drove over the front of a Mercedes in the rain
(that does sound very F1)
I was only fired AFTER I’d broken my foot while counting the truck’s inventory a month later.
True story.
true
We suck at driving even harder lol
Although in some cases we'd have the benefit of a higher IQ.
At least Inoue seems to take it in his stride and can laugh at his own mistakes. Seems a character and fun to be around.
Here's the thing-the worst driver in F1 is so much better than any of us that he's got to know he was still damned good.
Alex Yoong was driving for Minardi and missed out several qualifications due to failing to meet the 107% threshold. He eventually got suspended for two races, not by the FIA but by his own team boss Paul Stoddard, for being too slow compared to his teammate.
A couple of years later he actually performed pretty well at the then newly created A1GP Series, even winning a race if I remember correctly.
We Malaysians are still proud of Alex Yoong...
@@madkhaliqfarhan, You have all the reasons to be proud of the man's career. As said, I also remember that he performed quite well in the A1 GP Series. He rejuvenated his career by winning three sprint races and one feature race (and to be fair: I had to check his Wikipedia entry for that) in this very competitive formula class. And later on in his career, he won the Audi R8 LMS Series three years in a row!
@@rjh_wijnands Oh yeah! Alex may have failed in F1 but we should never feel sad forever because we realize that his son, Alister, will eventually make his way to F1 and becomes better than Alex someday! If Max can become better than Jos Verstappen, Alister should do the same!
His teammate is Fernando Alonso.
Personally, I remember Alex better when he helped train
his younger sister Aaliyah in water ski sport.
Stroll is actually a pretty good driver. I don't know if he would have made it to F1 without his father but he is a pretty good driver.
He's performing quite well this season, qualifying and finishing around Seb's standing pretty consistently. Quite a down to earth person as well I believe he must be working hard.
You can be a good driver and still be a bad F1 driver. The competition is that much higher.
@@Mister.Psychology still says something that he’s middle of the pack, not exceptional but he doesn’t stick out as horrendous necessarily
I think he completely recognizes what people think about him because of his father , so he’s putting in the work . I think he’s doing pretty solid , I’m sure seb helps him out too .
Y’all are acting like this is the only year he’s been good. You try getting a podium and front row qualifying on two separate occasions in your rookie year in a car that’s almost a backmarker

Explain yourself german boi
@@waynemanna1402 - I'm with you on the Lance Stroll assessment.
"If balls don't move there's a problem with brain damage" - damn I got to remember that one just in case I need it later on in life.
Agreed. It is epic...
Stroll doesn't deserve any hate in my opinion. He's an average F1 driver, which still makes him one of the best drivers in the world.
I mean he skipped f2. Not because he's to good, because of the money from daddy. He got 3rd Place with an Williams. Thats not bad. Thats good. He want to be in a new Team and him's Dad said "fuck it i buy my own Team. And idc how good your m8 will be. You are the 1st driver."
@Rachel Wood Yeah his first 2 years were a bit shaky but he's been driving pretty well lately
Lets be honest, if he didn't have his daddy. He would prob get a seat then sacked at the end of the season.
you are right, he is average and people only hate on him because his dad bought him a team.
@@rumblefish9 als long als drivers like Giovanizzi keep there seat, Stroll is worthy of a seat too. And ist still think, Stroll just got that much hate because everybody thinks he is there because of his dad - sure, the money helped, but he is goog enough to be a F1 driver. He starts very good and drives with little mistakes - sure, he might not be a Verstappen or Hamilton, but with the rest he can go....
I was going to add a laugh about Mazepin but seeing how many of these guys were MULTIPLE SECONDS behind their teammate, or finishing multiple laps down really puts things in perspective. Wow, F1 was crazy back in the day!!
"Disqualified after protest for being to slow"
Williams: *PANIC*
Actually is Ferrari and Alfa xD
Latifi was able to actually get a pass on Raikonnen this past weekend, so I'd argue Alfa has more to worry about. lol
@@Gofr5 Well, yeah, Alfa has one more thing to worry about than Williams: The Engine.
Then again, Williams is the kind of team which sees the progress of Racing Point and decide to copy the 2020 Ferrari, then fire a Engineer because the Engine doesn't fit properly into the awesome chassis and wonder why Sponsors leave.
I'd also dare say, IF Racing Point gets away with their Mercedes copy, then it doesn't take a genius to figure out what Red Bull / Alpha Tauri and Ferrari / Alfa Romeo will do next year.

@@moxenremon3251 I think it's pretty fair, on track it seems like he'll be a 'bottas' at best, but without the finnish humour and always carrying the image of being bought into F1. @@oxey_ completely agree, but the real deal is that everyone should be absolutely exceptional; have these Bottas and Strolls and it's extremely bothersome, as they're just warming up seats and the real talented ones get nothing. Personally, I think they all should be championship material, not having a #1 and a #2 to wing the main one out, it makes things extremely boring and predictable, it even kills the sports, I'd say.
Andrea de Cesaris deserves an honorable mention by dint of his famously random racing maneuvers in the 80s ... also - I believe attended the most number of Grand Prix races without winning any. Drove for the Alfa team briefly I think, James Hunt (then commentating) famously dubbed him "Andrea de Crasheris" - we was especially savage in his comments over a really abject failure as back marker to get out of Ayrton Senna's way (Monza, I think?)
