For people of this girl's generation, not that big a deal when balanced against their colonial past.
But for folk in their 70s who grew up with her, while everything about the Queen was being reported to them on a daily basis, her passing represents the end of the most stable representation of Britain's past greatness as an imperial power.
So they're seeing this loss as not just passing of a virtual family member, but of an era.

This country went through similar shock when FDR passed (because he had been in office so long, and also represented end of HIS era for those who grew up with him being the ONLY president they'd known), and when JFK died (due to the suddeness and violence of it, and also due to all he represented for so many).

I am Scottish but this be honest, England doesn't have many globally known cultural symbols drawing tourists to England's shores, most people who think of England they say "Buckingham palace, The Queen, Westminster, the Beatles" mostly associated with the Queen but in Scotland, people say "Bagpipes, Kilts, whiskey, Highlands", mostly not associated with the Queen. The Queen is most of England's tourism, this be honest.

As a person who’s not a huge fan of the monarchy either, I respect her answer.
However, in regards to colonialism, as terrible as it was, I feel it’s only fair to point out that the vast majority was to do with the royal family of the past, and the now ceased British Empire, NOT the current members of the royal family, who have repeatedly apologised for the past and have donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to African children charities etc. Unlike other previous colonial countries. I guess it’s just the association connotated. I know Elizabeth specifically was not perfect, mainly in her early reign/the transition period. There was the Kenya Mau Mau issue etc. But I do believe in 2nd chances.
Elizabeth II was plenty involve a few colonial affairs, and she had the power to stop such actions. But alas, rich people gonna be rich

Like for their entire family like I get a politician being paid but like being born into a position is bad enough but making the people pay for your entire family is even worse especially when you’re living a life of luxury. The UK is an economic mess right now (high energy prices, high overall inflation, pending recession, strikes) , so it makes sense that the death of a 96 year-old monarch shouldn't matter all that much.

@@0IIIIII she didnn't laugh at her. She was mainly laughing because of the situation she was in. Getting a little bit nervous infront of a camera getting interviewed isn't weird. And while being nervous laughing can be a bit of a stress reliever, it is for myself too. We do not have the intent of trying to mock someone or something. It's just an instinctual coping method for some people.

Secondly, the Royal Family earns their keep, Prince William and Prince Harry served as officers in the British Army for multiple years, the Royal Family also fundraises, advocates for, and donates their own money to charity. The Royal Family is also a boon for British tourism and culture, they overall earn more than they consume.
