Daniel Craig reprises his role as British secret agent James Bond as he accompanies Her Majesty The Queen to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Ceremony also featured appearances from Mr. Bean, Monty Python and a re-imagining of the British Industrial Revolution.
Every two years, the world's finest athletes gather at the Olympic Games - a spectacular celebration of sporting excellence that captures the attention of billions of people around the world. However, the Games are about much more than just sport. They bring the Olympic values to life and provide a global arena for a unique combination of sport, culture, education and ceremonies.
At the Olympic Games in London 2012, about 10,500 athletes from 204 countries compete in 26 different sports, comprising 302 medal events. Whether athletes win a medal or not, they can forever call themselves Olympians. The sporting competitions are undoubtedly the central focus of the Olympic Games and participating in the Games is the ultimate goal for most athletes.
Every edition has its own story to tell and will be remembered for some truly remarkable performances from sporting legends such as Jesse Owens, Abebe Bikila, Jean-Claude Killy, Nadia Comaneci, Katarina Witt, Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt, to name just a few. =========================================

She does have some Moroccan ancestry, but contrary to your apparent belief not all Moroccans are or were criminals or murderers. And Prince Albert helped keep the UK out of war - unlike some recent politicians. Wars cause death, which is a prerequisite for murder to be proved. What were his crimes in your opinion? You are insistent that not one of her forebears was innocent of murder or other crimes, which seems implausible to put it mildly. Have you traced your own lineage back to before the extinction of our Neanderthal ancestors and found everyone unblemished? Or do you just delude yourself that you have?

The best thing about it was the fact that they didn't go for excessive flash or try to 'one up' any of the previous olympics. Instead they just decided to be unapologetically British...and it worked.

What many olympic fans outside the UK don't understand is that the 2012 London Olympics was also special, because it became the centre point of other milestones in the UK. It was the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen, 50th Anniversary of James Bond and 50th Anniversary of Dr Who. It also celebrated UK contribution to pop culture.

No, everyone understood that because it was a part of the official commentary of the 2012 opening ceremony. You just felt the need to tell everyone they didn't understand that so you sounded smart, there's a difference. What is noted is that apart from the jubilee, most people in Britain were apathetic to it.
